ILIF: Temporal Inhibitory Leaky Integrate-and-Fire Neuron for Overactivation in Spiking Neural NetworksKai Sun, Peibo Duan, Levin Kuhlmann et al.
The Spiking Neural Network (SNN) has drawn increasing attention for its energy-efficient, event-driven processing and biological plausibility. To train SNNs via backpropagation, surrogate gradients are used to approximate the non-differentiable spike function, but they only maintain nonzero derivatives within a narrow range of membrane potentials near the firing threshold, referred to as the surrogate gradient support width gamma. We identify a major challenge, termed the dilemma of gamma: a relatively large gamma leads to overactivation, characterized by excessive neuron firing, which in turn increases energy consumption, whereas a small gamma causes vanishing gradients and weakens temporal dependencies. To address this, we propose a temporal Inhibitory Leaky Integrate-and-Fire (ILIF) neuron model, inspired by biological inhibitory mechanisms. This model incorporates interconnected inhibitory units for membrane potential and current, effectively mitigating overactivation while preserving gradient propagation. Theoretical analysis demonstrates ILIF effectiveness in overcoming the gamma dilemma, and extensive experiments on multiple datasets show that ILIF improves energy efficiency by reducing firing rates, stabilizes training, and enhances accuracy. Deep Convolutional Sparse Coding Network for Pansharpening with Guidance of Side InformationShuang Xu, Jiangshe Zhang, Kai Sun et al.
Pansharpening is a fundamental issue in remote sensing field. This paper proposes a side information partially guided convolutional sparse coding (SCSC) model for pansharpening. The key idea is to split the low resolution multispectral image into a panchromatic image related feature map and a panchromatic image irrelated feature map, where the former one is regularized by the side information from panchromatic images. With the principle of algorithm unrolling techniques, the proposed model is generalized as a deep neural network, called as SCSC pansharpening neural network (SCSC-PNN). Compared with 13 classic and state-of-the-art methods on three satellites, the numerical experiments show that SCSC-PNN is superior to others. The codes are available at https://github.com/xsxjtu/SCSC-PNN.
Deep Gradient Projection Networks for Pan-sharpeningShuang Xu, Jiangshe Zhang, Zixiang Zhao et al.
Pan-sharpening is an important technique for remote sensing imaging systems to obtain high resolution multispectral images. Recently, deep learning has become the most popular tool for pan-sharpening. This paper develops a model-based deep pan-sharpening approach. Specifically, two optimization problems regularized by the deep prior are formulated, and they are separately responsible for the generative models for panchromatic images and low resolution multispectral images. Then, the two problems are solved by a gradient projection algorithm, and the iterative steps are generalized into two network blocks. By alternatively stacking the two blocks, a novel network, called gradient projection based pan-sharpening neural network, is constructed. The experimental results on different kinds of satellite datasets demonstrate that the new network outperforms state-of-the-art methods both visually and quantitatively. The codes are available at https://github.com/xsxjtu/GPPNN.
Towards Reducing Severe Defocus Spread Effects for Multi-Focus Image Fusion via an Optimization Based StrategyShuang Xu, Lizhen Ji, Zhe Wang et al.
Multi-focus image fusion (MFF) is a popular technique to generate an all-in-focus image, where all objects in the scene are sharp. However, existing methods pay little attention to defocus spread effects of the real-world multi-focus images. Consequently, most of the methods perform badly in the areas near focus map boundaries. According to the idea that each local region in the fused image should be similar to the sharpest one among source images, this paper presents an optimization-based approach to reduce defocus spread effects. Firstly, a new MFF assessmentmetric is presented by combining the principle of structure similarity and detected focus maps. Then, MFF problem is cast into maximizing this metric. The optimization is solved by gradient ascent. Experiments conducted on the real-world dataset verify superiority of the proposed model. The codes are available at https://github.com/xsxjtu/MFF-SSIM.

SPPSFormer: High-quality Superpoint-based Transformer for Roof Plane Instance Segmentation from Point CloudsCheng Zeng, Xiatian Qi, Chi Chen et al.
Transformers have been seldom employed in point cloud roof plane instance segmentation, which is the focus of this study, and existing superpoint Transformers suffer from limited performance due to the use of low-quality superpoints. To address this challenge, we establish two criteria that high-quality superpoints for Transformers should satisfy and introduce a corresponding two-stage superpoint generation process. The superpoints generated by our method not only have accurate boundaries, but also exhibit consistent geometric sizes and shapes, both of which greatly benefit the feature learning of superpoint Transformers. To compensate for the limitations of deep learning features when the training set size is limited, we incorporate multidimensional handcrafted features into the model. Additionally, we design a decoder that combines a Kolmogorov-Arnold Network with a Transformer module to improve instance prediction and mask extraction. Finally, our network's predictions are refined using traditional algorithm-based postprocessing. For evaluation, we annotated a real-world dataset and corrected annotation errors in the existing RoofN3D dataset. Experimental results show that our method achieves state-of-the-art performance on our dataset, as well as both the original and reannotated RoofN3D datasets. Moreover, our model is not sensitive to plane boundary annotations during training, significantly reducing the annotation burden. Through comprehensive experiments, we also identified key factors influencing roof plane segmentation performance: in addition to roof types, variations in point cloud density, density uniformity, and 3D point precision have a considerable impact. These findings underscore the importance of incorporating data augmentation strategies that account for point cloud quality to enhance model robustness under diverse and challenging conditions.

FGF-GAN: A Lightweight Generative Adversarial Network for Pansharpening via Fast Guided FilterZixiang Zhao, Jiangshe Zhang, Shuang Xu et al.
Pansharpening is a widely used image enhancement technique for remote sensing. Its principle is to fuse the input high-resolution single-channel panchromatic (PAN) image and low-resolution multi-spectral image and to obtain a high-resolution multi-spectral (HRMS) image. The existing deep learning pansharpening method has two shortcomings. First, features of two input images need to be concatenated along the channel dimension to reconstruct the HRMS image, which makes the importance of PAN images not prominent, and also leads to high computational cost. Second, the implicit information of features is difficult to extract through the manually designed loss function. To this end, we propose a generative adversarial network via the fast guided filter (FGF) for pansharpening. In generator, traditional channel concatenation is replaced by FGF to better retain the spatial information while reducing the number of parameters. Meanwhile, the fusion objects can be highlighted by the spatial attention module. In addition, the latent information of features can be preserved effectively through adversarial training. Numerous experiments illustrate that our network generates high-quality HRMS images that can surpass existing methods, and with fewer parameters.

MonoPair: Monocular 3D Object Detection Using Pairwise Spatial RelationshipsYongjian Chen, Lei Tai, Kai Sun et al.
Monocular 3D object detection is an essential component in autonomous driving while challenging to solve, especially for those occluded samples which are only partially visible. Most detectors consider each 3D object as an independent training target, inevitably resulting in a lack of useful information for occluded samples. To this end, we propose a novel method to improve the monocular 3D object detection by considering the relationship of paired samples. This allows us to encode spatial constraints for partially-occluded objects from their adjacent neighbors. Specifically, the proposed detector computes uncertainty-aware predictions for object locations and 3D distances for the adjacent object pairs, which are subsequently jointly optimized by nonlinear least squares. Finally, the one-stage uncertainty-aware prediction structure and the post-optimization module are dedicatedly integrated for ensuring the run-time efficiency. Experiments demonstrate that our method yields the best performance on KITTI 3D detection benchmark, by outperforming state-of-the-art competitors by wide margins, especially for the hard samples.
Sem-LSD: A Learning-based Semantic Line Segment DetectorYi Sun, Xushen Han, Kai Sun et al.
In this paper, we introduces a new type of line-shaped image representation, named semantic line segment (Sem-LS) and focus on solving its detection problem. Sem-LS contains high-level semantics and is a compact scene representation where only visually salient line segments with stable semantics are preserved. Combined with high-level semantics, Sem-LS is more robust under cluttered environment compared with existing line-shaped representations. The compactness of Sem-LS facilitates its use in large-scale applications, such as city-scale SLAM (simultaneously localization and mapping) and LCD (loop closure detection). Sem-LS detection is a challenging task due to its significantly different appearance from existing learning-based image representations such as wireframes and objects. For further investigation, we first label Sem-LS on two well-known datasets, KITTI and KAIST URBAN, as new benchmarks. Then, we propose a learning-based Sem-LS detector (Sem-LSD) and devise new module as well as metrics to address unique challenges in Sem-LS detection. Experimental results have shown both the efficacy and efficiency of Sem-LSD. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed Sem-LS is supported by two experiments on detector repeatability and a city-scale LCD problem. Labeled datasets and code will be released shortly.

AMAD: Adversarial Multiscale Anomaly Detection on High-Dimensional and Time-Evolving Categorical DataZheng Gao, Lin Guo, Chi Ma et al.
Anomaly detection is facing with emerging challenges in many important industry domains, such as cyber security and online recommendation and advertising. The recent trend in these areas calls for anomaly detection on time-evolving data with high-dimensional categorical features without labeled samples. Also, there is an increasing demand for identifying and monitoring irregular patterns at multiple resolutions. In this work, we propose a unified end-to-end approach to solve these challenges by combining the advantages of Adversarial Autoencoder and Recurrent Neural Network. The model learns data representations cross different scales with attention mechanisms, on which an enhanced two-resolution anomaly detector is developed for both instances and data blocks. Extensive experiments are performed over three types of datasets to demonstrate the efficacy of our method and its superiority over the state-of-art approaches.
