Lumina-Image 2.0: A Unified and Efficient Image Generative Framework

Qi Qin, Le Zhuo, Yi Xin et al.

We introduce Lumina-Image 2.0, an advanced text-to-image generation framework that achieves significant progress compared to previous work, Lumina-Next. Lumina-Image 2.0 is built upon two key principles: (1) Unification - it adopts a unified architecture (Unified Next-DiT) that treats text and image tokens as a joint sequence, enabling natural cross-modal interactions and allowing seamless task expansion. Besides, since high-quality captioners can provide semantically well-aligned text-image training pairs, we introduce a unified captioning system, Unified Captioner (UniCap), specifically designed for T2I generation tasks. UniCap excels at generating comprehensive and accurate captions, accelerating convergence and enhancing prompt adherence. (2) Efficiency - to improve the efficiency of our proposed model, we develop multi-stage progressive training strategies and introduce inference acceleration techniques without compromising image quality. Extensive evaluations on academic benchmarks and public text-to-image arenas show that Lumina-Image 2.0 delivers strong performances even with only 2.6B parameters, highlighting its scalability and design efficiency. We have released our training details, code, and models at https://github.com/Alpha-VLLM/Lumina-Image-2.0.

Sparse-Tuning: Adapting Vision Transformers with Efficient Fine-tuning and Inference

Ting Liu, Xuyang Liu, Siteng Huang et al. · tsinghua

Parameter-efficient fine-tuning (PEFT) has emerged as a popular solution for adapting pre-trained Vision Transformer (ViT) models to downstream applications. While current PEFT methods have achieved parameter efficiency, they overlook the efficiency of computation and GPU memory during both fine-tuning and inference, falling short of practical requirements. In this paper, we propose \textbf{Sparse-Tuning}, a novel PEFT method that accounts for the information redundancy in images and videos to boost the above efficiency. By sparsely preserving the semantic-relevant tokens and merging irrelevant ones, Sparse-Tuning minimizes the quantity of tokens processed at each layer, leading to a quadratic reduction in computational and memory overhead. To align our token sparsification strategy suitably with fine-tuning purposes, we further design Dense Adapters that establish dense connections from shallow layers to deeper layers. These Dense Adapters integrate multi-level local features to enrich the current tokens, improving both token preservation and model adaptation. Empirical results on VTAB-1K, three image datasets, and two video datasets show that our Sparse-Tuning reduces GFLOPs to \textbf{62\%-70\%} of the original ViT-B while achieving state-of-the-art performance. Focus-Enhanced Scene Text Recognition with Deformable Convolutions

Linjie Deng, Yanxiang Gong, Xinchen Lu et al.

Recently, scene text recognition methods based on deep learning have sprung up in computer vision area. The existing methods achieved great performances, but the recognition of irregular text is still challenging due to the various shapes and distorted patterns. Consider that at the time of reading words in the real world, normally we will not rectify it in our mind but adjust our focus and visual fields. Similarly, through utilizing deformable convolutional layers whose geometric structures are adjustable, we present an enhanced recognition network without the steps of rectification to deal with irregular text in this work. A number of experiments have been applied, where the results on public benchmarks demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed components and shows that our method has reached satisfactory performances. The code will be publicly available at https://github.com/Alpaca07/dtr soon.

MmAP : Multi-modal Alignment Prompt for Cross-domain Multi-task Learning

Yi Xin, Junlong Du, Qiang Wang et al.

Multi-Task Learning (MTL) is designed to train multiple correlated tasks simultaneously, thereby enhancing the performance of individual tasks. Typically, a multi-task network structure consists of a shared backbone and task-specific decoders. However, the complexity of the decoders increases with the number of tasks. To tackle this challenge, we integrate the decoder-free vision-language model CLIP, which exhibits robust zero-shot generalization capability. Recently, parameter-efficient transfer learning methods have been extensively explored with CLIP for adapting to downstream tasks, where prompt tuning showcases strong potential. Nevertheless, these methods solely fine-tune a single modality (text or visual), disrupting the modality structure of CLIP. In this paper, we first propose Multi-modal Alignment Prompt (MmAP) for CLIP, which aligns text and visual modalities during fine-tuning process. Building upon MmAP, we develop an innovative multi-task prompt learning framework. On the one hand, to maximize the complementarity of tasks with high similarity, we utilize a gradient-driven task grouping method that partitions tasks into several disjoint groups and assign a group-shared MmAP to each group. On the other hand, to preserve the unique characteristics of each task, we assign an task-specific MmAP to each task. Comprehensive experiments on two large multi-task learning datasets demonstrate that our method achieves significant performance improvements compared to full fine-tuning while only utilizing approximately 0.09% of trainable parameters.

Partitioner Guided Modal Learning Framework

Guimin Hu, Yi Xin, Lijie Hu et al.

Multimodal learning benefits from multiple modal information, and each learned modal representations can be divided into uni-modal that can be learned from uni-modal training and paired-modal features that can be learned from cross-modal interaction. Building on this perspective, we propose a partitioner-guided modal learning framework, PgM, which consists of the modal partitioner, uni-modal learner, paired-modal learner, and uni-paired modal decoder. Modal partitioner segments the learned modal representation into uni-modal and paired-modal features. Modal learner incorporates two dedicated components for uni-modal and paired-modal learning. Uni-paired modal decoder reconstructs modal representation based on uni-modal and paired-modal features. PgM offers three key benefits: 1) thorough learning of uni-modal and paired-modal features, 2) flexible distribution adjustment for uni-modal and paired-modal representations to suit diverse downstream tasks, and 3) different learning rates across modalities and partitions. Extensive experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of PgM across four multimodal tasks and further highlight its transferability to existing models. Additionally, we visualize the distribution of uni-modal and paired-modal features across modalities and tasks, offering insights into their respective contributions.

AFD-Net: Adaptive Fully-Dual Network for Few-Shot Object Detection

Longyao Liu, Bo Ma, Yulin Zhang et al.

Few-shot object detection (FSOD) aims at learning a detector that can fast adapt to previously unseen objects with scarce annotated examples, which is challenging and demanding. Existing methods solve this problem by performing subtasks of classification and localization utilizing a shared component (e.g., RoI head) in the detector, yet few of them take the distinct preferences of two subtasks towards feature embedding into consideration. In this paper, we carefully analyze the characteristics of FSOD, and present that a general few-shot detector should consider the explicit decomposition of two subtasks, as well as leveraging information from both of them to enhance feature representations. To the end, we propose a simple yet effective Adaptive Fully-Dual Network (AFD-Net). Specifically, we extend Faster R-CNN by introducing Dual Query Encoder and Dual Attention Generator for separate feature extraction, and Dual Aggregator for separate model reweighting. Spontaneously, separate state estimation is achieved by the R-CNN detector. Besides, for the acquisition of enhanced feature representations, we further introduce Adaptive Fusion Mechanism to adaptively perform feature fusion in different subtasks. Extensive experiments on PASCAL VOC and MS COCO in various settings show that, our method achieves new state-of-the-art performance by a large margin, demonstrating its effectiveness and generalization ability.
