SEA: Supervised Embedding Alignment for Token-Level Visual-Textual Integration in MLLMsYuanyang Yin, Yaqi Zhao, Yajie Zhang et al.
Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs) have demonstrated remarkable capabilities by integrating visual and textual inputs, yet modality alignment remains one of the most challenging aspects. Current MLLMs typically rely on simple adapter architectures and pretraining approaches to bridge vision encoders with large language models (LLM), guided by image-level supervision. We identify this paradigm often leads to suboptimal alignment between modalities, significantly constraining the LLM's ability to properly interpret and reason with visual features particularly for smaller language models. This limitation degrades overall performance-particularly for smaller language models where capacity constraints are more pronounced and adaptation capabilities are limited. To address this fundamental limitation, we propose Supervised Embedding Alignment (SEA), a token-level supervision alignment method that enables more precise visual-text alignment during pretraining. SEA introduces minimal computational overhead while preserving language capabilities and substantially improving cross-modal understanding. Our comprehensive analyses reveal critical insights into the adapter's role in multimodal integration, and extensive experiments demonstrate that SEA consistently improves performance across various model sizes, with smaller models benefiting the most (average performance gain of 7.61% for Gemma-2B). This work establishes a foundation for developing more effective alignment strategies for future multimodal systems.

Triplet-Block Diffusion RWKVKe Lin, Yiyang Luo, Zhaolong Su et al.
Causal Transformer language models suffer from strictly sequential decoding and a quadratic per-step attention cost. While linear-time causal models and discrete diffusion models each address these weaknesses, their integration remains inherently inconsistent: diffusion requires bidirectional attention, while causal models are unidirectional. To unify these architectures, we propose $B^3D-RWKV$, a diffusion RWKV variant that integrates the model's $O(L)$ inference efficiency with parallel, bidirectional discrete-diffusion through a \emph{triplet-block layout} method. $B^3D-RWKV-7.2B$ reaches comparable accuracy on an 8-task suite versus existing models while significantly outperforming baselines in decoding throughput with an average of $\mathbf{1.6\times}$ speedup.

ViRED: Prediction of Visual Relations in Engineering DrawingsChao Gu, Ke Lin, Yiyang Luo et al.
To accurately understand engineering drawings, it is essential to establish the correspondence between images and their description tables within the drawings. Existing document understanding methods predominantly focus on text as the main modality, which is not suitable for documents containing substantial image information. In the field of visual relation detection, the structure of the task inherently limits its capacity to assess relationships among all entity pairs in the drawings. To address this issue, we propose a vision-based relation detection model, named ViRED, to identify the associations between tables and circuits in electrical engineering drawings. Our model mainly consists of three parts: a vision encoder, an object encoder, and a relation decoder. We implement ViRED using PyTorch to evaluate its performance. To validate the efficacy of ViRED, we conduct a series of experiments. The experimental results indicate that, within the engineering drawing dataset, our approach attained an accuracy of 96\% in the task of relation prediction, marking a substantial improvement over existing methodologies. The results also show that ViRED can inference at a fast speed even when there are numerous objects in a single engineering drawing.

WPNAS: Neural Architecture Search by jointly using Weight Sharing and PredictorKe Lin, Yong A, Zhuoxin Gan et al.
Weight sharing based and predictor based methods are two major types of fast neural architecture search methods. In this paper, we propose to jointly use weight sharing and predictor in a unified framework. First, we construct a SuperNet in a weight-sharing way and probabilisticly sample architectures from the SuperNet. To increase the correctness of the evaluation of architectures, besides direct evaluation using the inherited weights, we further apply a few-shot predictor to assess the architecture on the other hand. The final evaluation of the architecture is the combination of direct evaluation, the prediction from the predictor and the cost of the architecture. We regard the evaluation as a reward and apply a self-critical policy gradient approach to update the architecture probabilities. To further reduce the side effects of weight sharing, we propose a weakly weight sharing method by introducing another HyperNet. We conduct experiments on datasets including CIFAR-10, CIFAR-100 and ImageNet under NATS-Bench, DARTS and MobileNet search space. The proposed WPNAS method achieves state-of-the-art performance on these datasets.

Optimally Combining Classifiers for Semi-Supervised LearningZhiguo Wang, Liusha Yang, Feng Yin et al.
This paper considers semi-supervised learning for tabular data. It is widely known that Xgboost based on tree model works well on the heterogeneous features while transductive support vector machine can exploit the low density separation assumption. However, little work has been done to combine them together for the end-to-end semi-supervised learning. In this paper, we find these two methods have complementary properties and larger diversity, which motivates us to propose a new semi-supervised learning method that is able to adaptively combine the strengths of Xgboost and transductive support vector machine. Instead of the majority vote rule, an optimization problem in terms of ensemble weight is established, which helps to obtain more accurate pseudo labels for unlabeled data. The experimental results on the UCI data sets and real commercial data set demonstrate the superior classification performance of our method over the five state-of-the-art algorithms improving test accuracy by about $3\%-4\%$. Low-Latency Privacy-Preserving Deep Learning Design via Secure MPCKe Lin, Yasir Glani, Ping Luo
Secure multi-party computation (MPC) facilitates privacy-preserving computation between multiple parties without leaking private information. While most secure deep learning techniques utilize MPC operations to achieve feasible privacy-preserving machine learning on downstream tasks, the overhead of the computation and communication still hampers their practical application. This work proposes a low-latency secret-sharing-based MPC design that reduces unnecessary communication rounds during the execution of MPC protocols. We also present a method for improving the computation of commonly used nonlinear functions in deep learning by integrating multivariate multiplication and coalescing different packets into one to maximize network utilization. Our experimental results indicate that our method is effective in a variety of settings, with a speedup in communication latency of $10\sim20\%$.

Context-Aware Indoor Point Cloud Object Generation through User InstructionsYiyang Luo, Ke Lin, Chao Gu
Indoor scene modification has emerged as a prominent area within computer vision, particularly for its applications in Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR). Traditional methods often rely on pre-existing object databases and predetermined object positions, limiting their flexibility and adaptability to new scenarios. In response to this challenge, we present a novel end-to-end multi-modal deep neural network capable of generating point cloud objects seamlessly integrated with their surroundings, driven by textual instructions. Our model revolutionizes scene modification by enabling the creation of new environments with previously unseen object layouts, eliminating the need for pre-stored CAD models. Leveraging Point-E as our generative model, we introduce innovative techniques such as quantized position prediction and Top-K estimation to address the issue of false negatives resulting from ambiguous language descriptions. Furthermore, we conduct comprehensive evaluations to showcase the diversity of generated objects, the efficacy of textual instructions, and the quantitative metrics, affirming the realism and versatility of our model in generating indoor objects. To provide a holistic assessment, we incorporate visual grounding as an additional metric, ensuring the quality and coherence of the scenes produced by our model. Through these advancements, our approach not only advances the state-of-the-art in indoor scene modification but also lays the foundation for future innovations in immersive computing and digital environment creation.

Think When You Need: Self-Adaptive Chain-of-Thought LearningJunjie Yang, Ke Lin, Xing Yu
Chain of Thought (CoT) reasoning enhances language models' performance but often leads to inefficient "overthinking" on simple problems. We identify that existing approaches directly penalizing reasoning length fail to account for varying problem complexity. Our approach constructs rewards through length and quality comparisons, guided by theoretical assumptions that jointly enhance solution correctness with conciseness. Moreover, we further demonstrate our method to fuzzy tasks where ground truth is unavailable. Experiments across multiple reasoning benchmarks demonstrate that our method maintains accuracy while generating significantly more concise explanations, effectively teaching models to "think when needed."

Towards Precise Scaling Laws for Video Diffusion TransformersYuanyang Yin, Yaqi Zhao, Mingwu Zheng et al.
Achieving optimal performance of video diffusion transformers within given data and compute budget is crucial due to their high training costs. This necessitates precisely determining the optimal model size and training hyperparameters before large-scale training. While scaling laws are employed in language models to predict performance, their existence and accurate derivation in visual generation models remain underexplored. In this paper, we systematically analyze scaling laws for video diffusion transformers and confirm their presence. Moreover, we discover that, unlike language models, video diffusion models are more sensitive to learning rate and batch size, two hyperparameters often not precisely modeled. To address this, we propose a new scaling law that predicts optimal hyperparameters for any model size and compute budget. Under these optimal settings, we achieve comparable performance and reduce inference costs by 40.1% compared to conventional scaling methods, within a compute budget of 1e10 TFlops. Furthermore, we establish a more generalized and precise relationship among validation loss, any model size, and compute budget. This enables performance prediction for non-optimal model sizes, which may also be appealed under practical inference cost constraints, achieving a better trade-off.

SciDER: Scientific Data-centric End-to-end ResearcherKe Lin, Yilin Lu, Shreyas Bhat et al.
Automated scientific discovery with large language models is transforming the research lifecycle from ideation to experimentation, yet existing agents struggle to autonomously process raw data collected from scientific experiments. We introduce SciDER, a data-centric end-to-end system that automates the research lifecycle. Unlike traditional frameworks, our specialized agents collaboratively parse and analyze raw scientific data, generate hypotheses and experimental designs grounded in specific data characteristics, and write and execute corresponding code. Evaluation on three benchmarks shows SciDER excels in specialized data-driven scientific discovery and outperforms general-purpose agents and state-of-the-art models through its self-evolving memory and critic-led feedback loop. Distributed as a modular Python package, we also provide easy-to-use PyPI packages with a lightweight web interface to accelerate autonomous, data-driven research and aim to be accessible to all researchers and developers.

Zero-shot Generative Linguistic SteganographyKe Lin, Yiyang Luo, Zijian Zhang et al.
Generative linguistic steganography attempts to hide secret messages into covertext. Previous studies have generally focused on the statistical differences between the covertext and stegotext, however, ill-formed stegotext can readily be identified by humans. In this paper, we propose a novel zero-shot approach based on in-context learning for linguistic steganography to achieve better perceptual and statistical imperceptibility. We also design several new metrics and reproducible language evaluations to measure the imperceptibility of the stegotext. Our experimental results indicate that our method produces $1.926\times$ more innocent and intelligible stegotext than any other method.

Lost in Overlap: Exploring Logit-based Watermark Collision in LLMsYiyang Luo, Ke Lin, Chao Gu et al.
The proliferation of large language models (LLMs) in generating content raises concerns about text copyright. Watermarking methods, particularly logit-based approaches, embed imperceptible identifiers into text to address these challenges. However, the widespread usage of watermarking across diverse LLMs has led to an inevitable issue known as watermark collision during common tasks, such as paraphrasing or translation. In this paper, we introduce watermark collision as a novel and general philosophy for watermark attacks, aimed at enhancing attack performance on top of any other attacking methods. We also provide a comprehensive demonstration that watermark collision poses a threat to all logit-based watermark algorithms, impacting not only specific attack scenarios but also downstream applications.

Multi-modal Feature Fusion with Feature Attention for VATEX Captioning Challenge 2020Ke Lin, Zhuoxin Gan, Liwei Wang
This report describes our model for VATEX Captioning Challenge 2020. First, to gather information from multiple domains, we extract motion, appearance, semantic and audio features. Then we design a feature attention module to attend on different feature when decoding. We apply two types of decoders, top-down and X-LAN and ensemble these models to get the final result. The proposed method outperforms official baseline with a significant gap. We achieve 76.0 CIDEr and 50.0 CIDEr on English and Chinese private test set. We rank 2nd on both English and Chinese private test leaderboard.

Exploration-efficient Deep Reinforcement Learning with Demonstration Guidance for Robot ControlKe Lin, Liang Gong, Xudong Li et al.
Although deep reinforcement learning (DRL) algorithms have made important achievements in many control tasks, they still suffer from the problems of sample inefficiency and unstable training process, which are usually caused by sparse rewards. Recently, some reinforcement learning from demonstration (RLfD) methods have shown to be promising in overcoming these problems. However, they usually require considerable demonstrations. In order to tackle these challenges, on the basis of the SAC algorithm we propose a sample efficient DRL-EG (DRL with efficient guidance) algorithm, in which a discriminator D(s) and a guider G(s) are modeled by a small number of expert demonstrations. The discriminator will determine the appropriate guidance states and the guider will guide agents to better exploration in the training phase. Empirical evaluation results from several continuous control tasks verify the effectiveness and performance improvements of our method over other RL and RLfD counterparts. Experiments results also show that DRL-EG can help the agent to escape from a local optimum.

A Semantics-Assisted Video Captioning Model Trained with Scheduled SamplingHaoran Chen, Ke Lin, Alexander Maye et al.
Given the features of a video, recurrent neural networks can be used to automatically generate a caption for the video. Existing methods for video captioning have at least three limitations. First, semantic information has been widely applied to boost the performance of video captioning models, but existing networks often fail to provide meaningful semantic features. Second, the Teacher Forcing algorithm is often utilized to optimize video captioning models, but during training and inference, different strategies are applied to guide word generation, leading to poor performance. Third, current video captioning models are prone to generate relatively short captions that express video contents inappropriately. Toward resolving these three problems, we suggest three corresponding improvements. First of all, we propose a metric to compare the quality of semantic features, and utilize appropriate features as input for a semantic detection network (SDN) with adequate complexity in order to generate meaningful semantic features for videos. Then, we apply a scheduled sampling strategy that gradually transfers the training phase from a teacher-guided manner toward a more self-teaching manner. Finally, the ordinary logarithm probability loss function is leveraged by sentence length so that the inclination of generating short sentences is alleviated. Our model achieves better results than previous models on the YouTube2Text dataset and is competitive with the previous best model on the MSR-VTT dataset.
