Chain of Thought Prompting Elicits Knowledge AugmentationDingjun Wu, Jing Zhang, Xinmei Huang
The knowledge-augmented deep learning paradigm refers to a paradigm in which domain knowledge is identified and integrated into deep models. Conventional methods typically employ task-specific approaches to gather external knowledge from various sources. In contrast, large language models are extensively pre-trained and can serve as a comprehensive source of external knowledge. In this paper, we propose CoT-KA, a Chain-of-Thought-based method that augments knowledge for deep learning. CoT-KA avoids the need for additional knowledge retrieval or knowledge reasoning models, as required in conventional augmentation methods. Our results demonstrate that CoT-KA outperforms both pure CoT-based methods and the non-augmented method across the majority of eleven publicly available benchmarks for various reasoning tasks.
PaddleOCR 3.0 Technical ReportCheng Cui, Ting Sun, Manhui Lin et al.
This technical report introduces PaddleOCR 3.0, an Apache-licensed open-source toolkit for OCR and document parsing. To address the growing demand for document understanding in the era of large language models, PaddleOCR 3.0 presents three major solutions: (1) PP-OCRv5 for multilingual text recognition, (2) PP-StructureV3 for hierarchical document parsing, and (3) PP-ChatOCRv4 for key information extraction. Compared to mainstream vision-language models (VLMs), these models with fewer than 100 million parameters achieve competitive accuracy and efficiency, rivaling billion-parameter VLMs. In addition to offering a high-quality OCR model library, PaddleOCR 3.0 provides efficient tools for training, inference, and deployment, supports heterogeneous hardware acceleration, and enables developers to easily build intelligent document applications.
SGSH: Stimulate Large Language Models with Skeleton Heuristics for Knowledge Base Question GenerationShasha Guo, Lizi Liao, Jing Zhang et al.
Knowledge base question generation (KBQG) aims to generate natural language questions from a set of triplet facts extracted from KB. Existing methods have significantly boosted the performance of KBQG via pre-trained language models (PLMs) thanks to the richly endowed semantic knowledge. With the advance of pre-training techniques, large language models (LLMs) (e.g., GPT-3.5) undoubtedly possess much more semantic knowledge. Therefore, how to effectively organize and exploit the abundant knowledge for KBQG becomes the focus of our study. In this work, we propose SGSH--a simple and effective framework to Stimulate GPT-3.5 with Skeleton Heuristics to enhance KBQG. The framework incorporates "skeleton heuristics", which provides more fine-grained guidance associated with each input to stimulate LLMs to generate optimal questions, encompassing essential elements like the question phrase and the auxiliary verb.More specifically, we devise an automatic data construction strategy leveraging ChatGPT to construct a skeleton training dataset, based on which we employ a soft prompting approach to train a BART model dedicated to generating the skeleton associated with each input. Subsequently, skeleton heuristics are encoded into the prompt to incentivize GPT-3.5 to generate desired questions. Extensive experiments demonstrate that SGSH derives the new state-of-the-art performance on the KBQG tasks.
