Identifying Unique Spatial-Temporal Bayesian Network without Markov Equivalence

Identifying vanilla Bayesian network to model spatial-temporal causality can be a critical yet challenging task. Different Markovian-equivalent directed acyclic graphs would be identified if the identifiability is not satisfied. To address this issue, Directed Cyclic Graph is proposed to drop the directed acyclic constraint. But it does not always hold, and cannot model dynamical time-series process. Then, Full Time Graph is proposed with introducing high-order time delay. Full Time Graph has no Markov equivalence class by assuming no instantaneous effects. But, it also assumes that the causality is invariant with varying time, that is not always satisfied in the spatio-temporal scenarios. Thus, in this work, a Spatial-Temporal Bayesian Network (STBN) is proposed to theoretically model the spatial-temporal causality from the perspective of information transfer. STBN explains the disappearance of network structure $X\rightarrow Z \rightarrow Y$ and $X\leftarrow Z \leftarrow Y$ by the principle of information path blocking. And finally, the uniqueness of STBN is proved. Based on this, a High-order Causal Entropy (HCE) algorithm is also proposed to uniquely identify STBN under time complexity $\mathcal{O}(n^3τ_{max})$, where $n$ is the number of variables and $τ_{max}$ is the maximum time delay. Numerical experiments are conducted with comparison to other baseline algorithms. The results show that HCE algorithm obtains state-of-the-art identification accuracy. ASIND: Alternating Sparse Identification for Predicting Network Dynamics Without Knowledge

Identifying network dynamics is a critical yet challenging task to to understand the mechanism of real-world social systems. There are two types of algorithms, and one requires the knowledge of self-dynamics function, interactive function, and interactive network to sparsely identify the network dynamics. Another one does not require any knowledge, but use simple functions to universally approximate complex functions. However, this type of algorithms lack interpretability, and the functional space is too extensive to search efficiently. Thus, to address this issue, this work proposes an Alternating Sparse Identification of Network Dynamics (ASIND) algorithm to sparsely identify the self-dynamics function, interactive function and interactive network alternatively. Extensive experiments are conducted to show the state-of-the-art identification and 100-steps prediction performance compared to the baseline. The experimental results also show the weak identifiability of interactive network, that means different networks can generate highly similar trajectories of network dynamics. Spatio-Temporal Graphical Counterfactuals: An Overview

Counterfactual thinking is a crucial yet challenging topic for artificial intelligence to learn knowledge from data and ultimately improve performance for new scenarios. Many research works, including the Potential Outcome Model (POM) and the Structural Causal Model (SCM), have been proposed to address this. However, their modeling, theoretical foundations, and application approaches often differ. Moreover, there is a lack of graphical approaches for inferring spatio-temporal counterfactuals, that account for spatial and temporal interactions among multiple units. Thus, in this work, we aim to present a survey that compares and discusses different counterfactual models, theories and approaches. Additionally, we propose a unified graphical causal framework to infer spatio-temporal counterfactuals.

LogoDiffuser: Training-Free Multilingual Logo Generation and Stylization via Letter-Aware Attention Control

Recent advances in text-to-image generation have been remarkable, but generating multilingual design logos that harmoniously integrate visual and textual elements remains a challenging task. Existing methods often distort character geometry when applying creative styles and struggle to support multilingual text generation without additional training. To address these challenges, we propose LogoDiffuser, a training-free method that synthesizes multilingual logo designs using the multimodal diffusion transformer. Instead of using textual prompts, we input the target characters as images, enabling robust character structure control regardless of language. We first analyze the joint attention mechanism to identify core tokens, which are tokens that strongly respond to textual structures. With this observation, our method integrates character structure and visual design by injecting the most informative attention maps. Furthermore, we perform layer-wise aggregation of attention maps to mitigate attention shifts across layers and obtain consistent core tokens. Extensive experiments and user studies demonstrate that our method achieves state-of-the-art performance in multilingual logo generation.

Thinking Diffusion: Penalize and Guide Visual-Grounded Reasoning in Diffusion Multimodal Language Models

Diffusion large language models (dLLMs) are emerging as promising alternatives to autoregressive (AR) LLMs. Recently, this paradigm has been extended to multimodal tasks, leading to the development of diffusion multimodal large language models (dMLLMs). These models are expected to retain the reasoning capabilities of LLMs while enabling faster inference through parallel generation. However, when combined with Chain-of-Thought (CoT) reasoning, dMLLMs exhibit two critical issues. First, we observe that dMLLMs often generate the final answer token at a very early timestep. This trend indicates that the model determines the answer before sufficient reasoning, leading to degraded reasoning performance. Second, during the initial timesteps, dMLLMs show minimal dependency on visual prompts, exhibiting a fundamentally different pattern of visual information utilization compared to AR vision-language models. In summary, these findings indicate that dMLLMs tend to generate premature final answers without sufficiently grounding on visual inputs. To address these limitations, we propose Position and Step Penalty (PSP) and Visual Reasoning Guidance (VRG). PSP penalizes tokens in later positions during early timesteps, delaying premature answer generation and encouraging progressive reasoning across timesteps. VRG, inspired by classifier-free guidance, amplifies visual grounding signals to enhance the model's alignment with visual evidence. Extensive experiments across various dMLLMs demonstrate that our method achieves up to 7.5% higher accuracy while delivering more than 3x speedup compared to reasoning with four times more diffusion steps.

Ko-MuSR: A Multistep Soft Reasoning Benchmark for LLMs Capable of Understanding Korean

We present Ko-MuSR, the first benchmark to comprehensively evaluate multistep, soft reasoning in long Korean narratives while minimizing data contamination. Built following MuSR, Ko-MuSR features fully Korean narratives, reasoning chains, and multiple-choice questions verified by human annotators for logical consistency and answerability. Evaluations of four large language models -- two multilingual and two Korean-specialized -- show that multilingual models outperform Korean-focused ones even in Korean reasoning tasks, indicating cross-lingual generalization of reasoning ability. Carefully designed prompting strategies, which combine few-shot examples, reasoning traces, and task-specific hints, further boost accuracy, approaching human-level performance. Ko-MuSR offers a solid foundation for advancing Korean NLP by enabling systematic evaluation of long-context reasoning and prompting strategies.

The Robustness of Differentiable Causal Discovery in Misspecified Scenarios

Causal discovery aims to learn causal relationships between variables from targeted data, making it a fundamental task in machine learning. However, causal discovery algorithms often rely on unverifiable causal assumptions, which are usually difficult to satisfy in real-world data, thereby limiting the broad application of causal discovery in practical scenarios. Inspired by these considerations, this work extensively benchmarks the empirical performance of various mainstream causal discovery algorithms, which assume i.i.d. data, under eight model assumption violations. Our experimental results show that differentiable causal discovery methods exhibit robustness under the metrics of Structural Hamming Distance and Structural Intervention Distance of the inferred graphs in commonly used challenging scenarios, except for scale variation. We also provide the theoretical explanations for the performance of differentiable causal discovery methods. Finally, our work aims to comprehensively benchmark the performance of recent differentiable causal discovery methods under model assumption violations, and provide the standard for reasonable evaluation of causal discovery, as well as to further promote its application in real-world scenarios.

Editable Noise Map Inversion: Encoding Target-image into Noise For High-Fidelity Image Manipulation

Text-to-image diffusion models have achieved remarkable success in generating high-quality and diverse images. Building on these advancements, diffusion models have also demonstrated exceptional performance in text-guided image editing. A key strategy for effective image editing involves inverting the source image into editable noise maps associated with the target image. However, previous inversion methods face challenges in adhering closely to the target text prompt. The limitation arises because inverted noise maps, while enabling faithful reconstruction of the source image, restrict the flexibility needed for desired edits. To overcome this issue, we propose Editable Noise Map Inversion (ENM Inversion), a novel inversion technique that searches for optimal noise maps to ensure both content preservation and editability. We analyze the properties of noise maps for enhanced editability. Based on this analysis, our method introduces an editable noise refinement that aligns with the desired edits by minimizing the difference between the reconstructed and edited noise maps. Extensive experiments demonstrate that ENM Inversion outperforms existing approaches across a wide range of image editing tasks in both preservation and edit fidelity with target prompts. Our approach can also be easily applied to video editing, enabling temporal consistency and content manipulation across frames.
