MLP Splatting: Object-Centric Neural Fields

3D representations are fundamental to scene rendering, understanding, and interaction. Recent approaches, such as 3D Gaussian Splatting and Neural Radiance Fields, achieve impressive photorealistic novel-view synthesis, but lack the ability to easily decompose scene elements into a few primitives, requiring additional segmentation or grouping for object-level manipulation. We present MLP-Splatting, a method that enables scene decomposition via a few expressive light-field primitives while providing photorealistic novel-view synthesis. MLP-Splatting models each primitive as an independent compact MLP with localized spatial support that predicts radiance and opacity. In contrast to low-level Gaussian primitives or a single global radiance field, our neural primitives provide greater expressive capacity while remaining spatially localized. Rendering is performed through efficient sparse volumetric compositing over ray-primitive interactions. Our primitives are supervised using RGB supervision alone, which yields primitives that represent local scene regions often corresponding to objects or object parts, enabling interactive object-level editing without segmentation masks by selecting a handful of primitives. Our method, augmented with optional semantic feature distillation, enables open-vocabulary scene interaction and open-set instant segmentation. Compared to state-of-the-art methods, we achieve substantially lower memory usage (1/15$\times$) and faster rendering (3$\times$), as we show in our experiments compared to semantic 3DGS methods. Sample-Efficient Human Evaluation of Large Language Models via Maximum Discrepancy Competition

Reliable evaluation of large language models (LLMs) is impeded by two key challenges: objective metrics often fail to reflect human perception of natural language, and exhaustive human labeling is prohibitively expensive. Here, we propose a sample-efficient human evaluation method for LLMs based on the principle of MAximum Discrepancy (MAD) Competition. Our method automatically and adaptively selects a compact set of input instructions that maximize semantic discrepancy between pairs of LLM responses. Human evaluators then perform three-alternative forced choices on these paired responses, which are aggregated into a global ranking using Elo rating. We apply our approach to compare eight widely used LLMs across four tasks: scientific knowledge understanding, mathematical reasoning, creative and functional writing, and code generation and explanation. Experimental results show that our sample-efficient evaluation method recovers "gold-standard" model rankings with a handful of MAD-selected instructions, reveals respective strengths and weaknesses of each LLM, and offers nuanced insights to guide future LLM development. LoGS: Visual Localization via Gaussian Splatting with Fewer Training Images

Visual localization involves estimating a query image's 6-DoF (degrees of freedom) camera pose, which is a fundamental component in various computer vision and robotic tasks. This paper presents LoGS, a vision-based localization pipeline utilizing the 3D Gaussian Splatting (GS) technique as scene representation. This novel representation allows high-quality novel view synthesis. During the mapping phase, structure-from-motion (SfM) is applied first, followed by the generation of a GS map. During localization, the initial position is obtained through image retrieval, local feature matching coupled with a PnP solver, and then a high-precision pose is achieved through the analysis-by-synthesis manner on the GS map. Experimental results on four large-scale datasets demonstrate the proposed approach's SoTA accuracy in estimating camera poses and robustness under challenging few-shot conditions.

PT-PINNs: A Parametric Engineering Turbulence Solver based on Physics-Informed Neural Networks

Physics-informed neural networks (PINNs) demonstrate promising potential in parameterized engineering turbulence optimization problems but face challenges, such as high data requirements and low computational accuracy when applied to engineering turbulence problems. This study proposes a framework that enhances the ability of PINNs to solve parametric turbulence problems without training datasets from experiments or CFD-Parametric Turbulence PINNs (PT-PINNs)). Two key methods are introduced to improve the accuracy and robustness of this framework. The first is a soft constraint method for turbulent viscosity calculation. The second is a pre-training method based on the conservation of flow rate in the flow field. The effectiveness of PT-PINNs is validated using a three-dimensional backward-facing step (BFS) turbulence problem with two varying parameters (Re = 3000-200000, ER = 1.1-1.5). PT-PINNs produce predictions that closely match experimental data and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) results across various conditions. Moreover, PT-PINNs offer a computational efficiency advantage over traditional CFD methods. The total time required to construct the parametric BFS turbulence model is 39 hours, one-sixteenth of the time required by traditional numerical methods. The inference time for a single-condition prediction is just 40 seconds-only 0.5% of a single CFD computation. These findings highlight the potential of PT-PINNs for future applications in engineering turbulence optimization problems.
