Ontology-Guided Diffusion for Zero-Shot Visual Sim2Real TransferMohamed Youssef, Mayar Elfares, Anna-Maria Meer et al.
Bridging the simulation-to-reality (sim2real) gap remains challenging as labelled real-world data is scarce. Existing diffusion-based approaches rely on unstructured prompts or statistical alignment, which do not capture the structured factors that make images look real. We introduce Ontology- Guided Diffusion (OGD), a neuro-symbolic zero-shot sim2real image translation framework that represents realism as structured knowledge. OGD decomposes realism into an ontology of interpretable traits -- such as lighting and material properties -- and encodes their relationships in a knowledge graph. From a synthetic image, OGD infers trait activations and uses a graph neural network to produce a global embedding. In parallel, a symbolic planner uses the ontology traits to compute a consistent sequence of visual edits needed to narrow the realism gap. The graph embedding conditions a pretrained instruction-guided diffusion model via cross-attention, while the planned edits are converted into a structured instruction prompt. Across benchmarks, our graph-based embeddings better distinguish real from synthetic imagery than baselines, and OGD outperforms state-of-the-art diffusion methods in sim2real image translations. Overall, OGD shows that explicitly encoding realism structure enables interpretable, data-efficient, and generalisable zero-shot sim2real transfer.

A Set of Quebec-French Corpus of Regional Expressions and TermsDavid Beauchemin, Yan Tremblay, Mohamed Amine Youssef et al.
The tasks of idiom understanding and dialect understanding are both well-established benchmarks in natural language processing. In this paper, we propose combining them, and using regional idioms as a test of dialect understanding. Towards this end, we propose two new benchmark datasets for the Quebec dialect of French: QFrCoRE, which contains 4,633 instances of idiomatic phrases, and QFrCoRT, which comprises 171 regional instances of idiomatic words. We explain how to construct these corpora, so that our methodology can be replicated for other dialects. Our experiments with 94 LLM demonstrate that our regional idiom benchmarks are a reliable tool for measuring a model's proficiency in a specific dialect.

COLE: a Comprehensive Benchmark for French Language Understanding EvaluationDavid Beauchemin, Yan Tremblay, Mohamed Amine Youssef et al.
To address the need for a more comprehensive evaluation of French Natural Language Understanding (NLU), we introduce COLE, a new benchmark composed of 23 diverse task covering a broad range of NLU capabilities, including sentiment analysis, paraphrase detection, grammatical judgment, and reasoning, with a particular focus on linguistic phenomena relevant to the French language. We benchmark 94 large language models (LLM), providing an extensive analysis of the current state of French NLU. Our results highlight a significant performance gap between closed- and open-weights models and identify key challenging frontiers for current LLMs, such as zero-shot extractive question-answering (QA), fine-grained word sense disambiguation, and understanding of regional language variations. We release COLE as a public resource to foster further progress in French language modelling.
