MV2MAE: Multi-View Video Masked Autoencoders

Ketul Shah, Robert Crandall, Jie Xu et al.

Videos captured from multiple viewpoints can help in perceiving the 3D structure of the world and benefit computer vision tasks such as action recognition, tracking, etc. In this paper, we present a method for self-supervised learning from synchronized multi-view videos. We use a cross-view reconstruction task to inject geometry information in the model. Our approach is based on the masked autoencoder (MAE) framework. In addition to the same-view decoder, we introduce a separate cross-view decoder which leverages cross-attention mechanism to reconstruct a target viewpoint video using a video from source viewpoint, to help representations robust to viewpoint changes. For videos, static regions can be reconstructed trivially which hinders learning meaningful representations. To tackle this, we introduce a motion-weighted reconstruction loss which improves temporal modeling. We report state-of-the-art results on the NTU-60, NTU-120 and ETRI datasets, as well as in the transfer learning setting on NUCLA, PKU-MMD-II and ROCOG-v2 datasets, demonstrating the robustness of our approach. Code will be made available.

HAWK: Rapid Android Malware Detection through Heterogeneous Graph Attention Networks

Yiming Hei, Renyu Yang, Hao Peng et al.

Android is undergoing unprecedented malicious threats daily, but the existing methods for malware detection often fail to cope with evolving camouflage in malware. To address this issue, we present HAWK, a new malware detection framework for evolutionary Android applications. We model Android entities and behavioural relationships as a heterogeneous information network (HIN), exploiting its rich semantic metastructures for specifying implicit higher-order relationships. An incremental learning model is created to handle the applications that manifest dynamically, without the need for re-constructing the whole HIN and the subsequent embedding model. The model can pinpoint rapidly the proximity between a new application and existing in-sample applications and aggregate their numerical embeddings under various semantics. Our experiments examine more than 80,860 malicious and 100,375 benign applications developed over a period of seven years, showing that HAWK achieves the highest detection accuracy against baselines and takes only 3.5ms on average to detect an out-of-sample application, with the accelerated training time of 50x faster than the existing approach.

Multi-VAE: Learning Disentangled View-common and View-peculiar Visual Representations for Multi-view Clustering

Jie Xu, Yazhou Ren, Huayi Tang et al.

Multi-view clustering, a long-standing and important research problem, focuses on mining complementary information from diverse views. However, existing works often fuse multiple views' representations or handle clustering in a common feature space, which may result in their entanglement especially for visual representations. To address this issue, we present a novel VAE-based multi-view clustering framework (Multi-VAE) by learning disentangled visual representations. Concretely, we define a view-common variable and multiple view-peculiar variables in the generative model. The prior of view-common variable obeys approximately discrete Gumbel Softmax distribution, which is introduced to extract the common cluster factor of multiple views. Meanwhile, the prior of view-peculiar variable follows continuous Gaussian distribution, which is used to represent each view's peculiar visual factors. By controlling the mutual information capacity to disentangle the view-common and view-peculiar representations, continuous visual information of multiple views can be separated so that their common discrete cluster information can be effectively mined. Experimental results demonstrate that Multi-VAE enjoys the disentangled and explainable visual representations, while obtaining superior clustering performance compared with state-of-the-art methods.

Deep Embedded Multi-view Clustering with Collaborative Training

Jie Xu, Yazhou Ren, Guofeng Li et al.

Multi-view clustering has attracted increasing attentions recently by utilizing information from multiple views. However, existing multi-view clustering methods are either with high computation and space complexities, or lack of representation capability. To address these issues, we propose deep embedded multi-view clustering with collaborative training (DEMVC) in this paper. Firstly, the embedded representations of multiple views are learned individually by deep autoencoders. Then, both consensus and complementary of multiple views are taken into account and a novel collaborative training scheme is proposed. Concretely, the feature representations and cluster assignments of all views are learned collaboratively. A new consistency strategy for cluster centers initialization is further developed to improve the multi-view clustering performance with collaborative training. Experimental results on several popular multi-view datasets show that DEMVC achieves significant improvements over state-of-the-art methods.

Hierarchical Attention Networks for Medical Image Segmentation

Fei Ding, Gang Yang, Jinlu Liu et al.

The medical image is characterized by the inter-class indistinction, high variability, and noise, where the recognition of pixels is challenging. Unlike previous self-attention based methods that capture context information from one level, we reformulate the self-attention mechanism from the view of the high-order graph and propose a novel method, namely Hierarchical Attention Network (HANet), to address the problem of medical image segmentation. Concretely, an HA module embedded in the HANet captures context information from neighbors of multiple levels, where these neighbors are extracted from the high-order graph. In the high-order graph, there will be an edge between two nodes only if the correlation between them is high enough, which naturally reduces the noisy attention information caused by the inter-class indistinction. The proposed HA module is robust to the variance of input and can be flexibly inserted into the existing convolution neural networks. We conduct experiments on three medical image segmentation tasks including optic disc/cup segmentation, blood vessel segmentation, and lung segmentation. Extensive results show our method is more effective and robust than the existing state-of-the-art methods.
