PointRFT: Explicit Reinforcement Fine-tuning for Point Cloud Few-shot LearningYankai Wang, Yiding Sun, Qirui Wang et al.
Understanding spatial dynamics and semantics in point cloud is fundamental for comprehensive 3D comprehension. While reinforcement learning algorithms such as Group Relative Policy Optimization (GRPO) have recently achieved remarkable breakthroughs in large language models by incentivizing reasoning capabilities through strategic reward design, their potential remains largely unexplored in the 3D perception domain. This naturally raises a pivotal question: Can RL-based methods effectively empower 3D point cloud fine-tuning? In this paper, we propose PointRFT, the first reinforcement fine-tuning paradigm tailored specifically for point cloud representation learning. We select three prevalent 3D foundation models and devise specialized accuracy reward and dispersion reward functions to stabilize training and mitigate distribution shifts. Through comprehensive few-shot classification experiments comparing distinct training paradigms, we demonstrate that PointRFT consistently outperforms vanilla supervised fine-tuning (SFT) across diverse benchmarks. Furthermore, when organically integrated into a hybrid Pretraining-SFT-RFT paradigm, the representational capacity of point cloud foundation models is substantially unleashed, achieving state-of-the-art performance particularly under data-scarce scenarios.

Align then Adapt: Rethinking Parameter-Efficient Transfer Learning in 4D PerceptionYiding Sun, Jihua Zhu, Haozhe Cheng et al.
Point cloud video understanding is critical for robotics as it accurately encodes motion and scene interaction. We recognize that 4D datasets are far scarcer than 3D ones, which hampers the scalability of self-supervised 4D models. A promising alternative is to transfer 3D pre-trained models to 4D perception tasks. However, rigorous empirical analysis reveals two critical limitations that impede transfer capability: overfitting and the modality gap. To overcome these challenges, we develop a novel "Align then Adapt" (PointATA) paradigm that decomposes parameter-efficient transfer learning into two sequential stages. Optimal-transport theory is employed to quantify the distributional discrepancy between 3D and 4D datasets, enabling our proposed point align embedder to be trained in Stage 1 to alleviate the underlying modality gap. To mitigate overfitting, an efficient point-video adapter and a spatial-context encoder are integrated into the frozen 3D backbone to enhance temporal modeling capacity in Stage 2. Notably, with the above engineering-oriented designs, PointATA enables a pre-trained 3D model without temporal knowledge to reason about dynamic video content at a smaller parameter cost compared to previous work. Extensive experiments show that PointATA can match or even outperform strong full fine-tuning models, whilst enjoying the advantage of parameter efficiency, e.g. 97.21 \% accuracy on 3D action recognition, $+8.7 \%$ on 4 D action segmentation, and 84.06\% on 4D semantic segmentation.

TikArt: Aperture-Guided Observation for Fine-Grained Visual Reasoning via Reinforcement LearningHao Ding, Zhichuan Yang, Weijie Ge et al.
We address fine-grained visual reasoning in multimodal large language models (MLLMs), where key evidence may reside in tiny objects, cluttered regions, or subtle markings that are lost under a single global image encoding. We introduce TikArt (Thinking Aperture), an aperture-guided agent that casts multi-step vision-language reasoning as a decision process over regions of interest. TikArt follows a Think-Aperture-Observe loop, alternating between language generation and two aperture actions: Zoom extracts rectangular crops, while Segment invokes SAM2 to obtain mask-based crops for irregular targets. After every action, the model must produce an explicit observation, turning local visual cues into persistent linguistic memory. Built on Qwen3-VL-8B, TikArt optimizes its reasoning policy with AGRPO, a GRPO-style reinforcement learning algorithm with a two-stage curriculum: it warms up segmentation actions and then jointly optimizes visual math, fine-grained VQA, and segmentation, using rewards that couple task success with purposeful aperture use. Experiments on V*, HR-Bench-4K/8K, MME-RealWorld-Lite, MMStar, RefCOCO, and ReasonSeg show consistent gains over the backbone and yield interpretable aperture trajectories for high-resolution reasoning.

FedPSA: Modeling Behavioral Staleness in Asynchronous Federated LearningChaoyi Lu
Asynchronous Federated Learning (AFL) has emerged as a significant research area in recent years. By not waiting for slower clients and executing the training process concurrently, it achieves faster training speed compared to traditional federated learning. However, due to the staleness introduced by the asynchronous process, its performance may degrade in some scenarios. Existing methods often use the round difference between the current model and the global model as the sole measure of staleness, which is coarse-grained and lacks observation of the model itself, thereby limiting the performance ceiling of asynchronous methods. In this paper, we propose FedPSA (Parameter Sensitivity-based Asynchronous Federated Learning), a more fine-grained AFL framework that leverages parameter sensitivity to measure model obsolescence and establishes a dynamic momentum queue to assess the current training phase in real time, thereby adjusting the tolerance for outdated information dynamically. Extensive experiments on multiple datasets and comparisons with various methods demonstrate the superior performance of FedPSA, achieving up to 6.37\% improvement over baseline methods and 1.93\% over the current state-of-the-art method.
