DARF: Depth-Aware Generalizable Neural Radiance Field

Neural Radiance Field (NeRF) has revolutionized novel-view rendering tasks and achieved impressive results. However, the inefficient sampling and per-scene optimization hinder its wide applications. Though some generalizable NeRFs have been proposed, the rendering quality is unsatisfactory due to the lack of geometry and scene uniqueness. To address these issues, we propose the Depth-Aware Generalizable Neural Radiance Field (DARF) with a Depth-Aware Dynamic Sampling (DADS) strategy to perform efficient novel view rendering and unsupervised depth estimation on unseen scenes without per-scene optimization. Distinct from most existing generalizable NeRFs, our framework infers the unseen scenes on both pixel level and geometry level with only a few input images. By introducing a pre-trained depth estimation module to derive the depth prior, narrowing down the ray sampling interval to the proximity space of the estimated surface, and sampling in expectation maximum position, we preserve scene characteristics while learning common attributes for novel-view synthesis. Moreover, we introduce a Multi-level Semantic Consistency loss (MSC) to assist with more informative representation learning. Extensive experiments on indoor and outdoor datasets show that compared with state-of-the-art generalizable NeRF methods, DARF reduces samples by 50%, while improving rendering quality and depth estimation. Deep Equilibrium Diffusion Restoration with Parallel Sampling

Diffusion model-based image restoration (IR) aims to use diffusion models to recover high-quality (HQ) images from degraded images, achieving promising performance. Due to the inherent property of diffusion models, most existing methods need long serial sampling chains to restore HQ images step-by-step, resulting in expensive sampling time and high computation costs. Moreover, such long sampling chains hinder understanding the relationship between inputs and restoration results since it is hard to compute the gradients in the whole chains. In this work, we aim to rethink the diffusion model-based IR models through a different perspective, i.e., a deep equilibrium (DEQ) fixed point system, called DeqIR. Specifically, we derive an analytical solution by modeling the entire sampling chain in these IR models as a joint multivariate fixed point system. Based on the analytical solution, we can conduct parallel sampling and restore HQ images without training. Furthermore, we compute fast gradients via DEQ inversion and found that initialization optimization can boost image quality and control the generation direction. Extensive experiments on benchmarks demonstrate the effectiveness of our method on typical IR tasks and real-world settings.

FocalDreamer: Text-driven 3D Editing via Focal-fusion Assembly

While text-3D editing has made significant strides in leveraging score distillation sampling, emerging approaches still fall short in delivering separable, precise and consistent outcomes that are vital to content creation. In response, we introduce FocalDreamer, a framework that merges base shape with editable parts according to text prompts for fine-grained editing within desired regions. Specifically, equipped with geometry union and dual-path rendering, FocalDreamer assembles independent 3D parts into a complete object, tailored for convenient instance reuse and part-wise control. We propose geometric focal loss and style consistency regularization, which encourage focal fusion and congruent overall appearance. Furthermore, FocalDreamer generates high-fidelity geometry and PBR textures which are compatible with widely-used graphics engines. Extensive experiments have highlighted the superior editing capabilities of FocalDreamer in both quantitative and qualitative evaluations.

SelfTalk: A Self-Supervised Commutative Training Diagram to Comprehend 3D Talking Faces

Speech-driven 3D face animation technique, extending its applications to various multimedia fields. Previous research has generated promising realistic lip movements and facial expressions from audio signals. However, traditional regression models solely driven by data face several essential problems, such as difficulties in accessing precise labels and domain gaps between different modalities, leading to unsatisfactory results lacking precision and coherence. To enhance the visual accuracy of generated lip movement while reducing the dependence on labeled data, we propose a novel framework SelfTalk, by involving self-supervision in a cross-modals network system to learn 3D talking faces. The framework constructs a network system consisting of three modules: facial animator, speech recognizer, and lip-reading interpreter. The core of SelfTalk is a commutative training diagram that facilitates compatible features exchange among audio, text, and lip shape, enabling our models to learn the intricate connection between these factors. The proposed framework leverages the knowledge learned from the lip-reading interpreter to generate more plausible lip shapes. Extensive experiments and user studies demonstrate that our proposed approach achieves state-of-the-art performance both qualitatively and quantitatively. SyncTalk: The Devil is in the Synchronization for Talking Head Synthesis

Achieving high synchronization in the synthesis of realistic, speech-driven talking head videos presents a significant challenge. Traditional Generative Adversarial Networks (GAN) struggle to maintain consistent facial identity, while Neural Radiance Fields (NeRF) methods, although they can address this issue, often produce mismatched lip movements, inadequate facial expressions, and unstable head poses. A lifelike talking head requires synchronized coordination of subject identity, lip movements, facial expressions, and head poses. The absence of these synchronizations is a fundamental flaw, leading to unrealistic and artificial outcomes. To address the critical issue of synchronization, identified as the "devil" in creating realistic talking heads, we introduce SyncTalk. This NeRF-based method effectively maintains subject identity, enhancing synchronization and realism in talking head synthesis. SyncTalk employs a Face-Sync Controller to align lip movements with speech and innovatively uses a 3D facial blendshape model to capture accurate facial expressions. Our Head-Sync Stabilizer optimizes head poses, achieving more natural head movements. The Portrait-Sync Generator restores hair details and blends the generated head with the torso for a seamless visual experience. Extensive experiments and user studies demonstrate that SyncTalk outperforms state-of-the-art methods in synchronization and realism. A Fast Fourier Convolutional Deep Neural Network For Accurate and Explainable Discrimination Of Wheat Yellow Rust And Nitrogen Deficiency From Sentinel-2 Time-Series Data

Accurate and timely detection of plant stress is essential for yield protection, allowing better-targeted intervention strategies. Recent advances in remote sensing and deep learning have shown great potential for rapid non-invasive detection of plant stress in a fully automated and reproducible manner. However, the existing models always face several challenges: 1) computational inefficiency and the misclassifications between the different stresses with similar symptoms; and 2) the poor interpretability of the host-stress interaction. In this work, we propose a novel fast Fourier Convolutional Neural Network (FFDNN) for accurate and explainable detection of two plant stresses with similar symptoms (i.e. Wheat Yellow Rust And Nitrogen Deficiency). Specifically, unlike the existing CNN models, the main components of the proposed model include: 1) a fast Fourier convolutional block, a newly fast Fourier transformation kernel as the basic perception unit, to substitute the traditional convolutional kernel to capture both local and global responses to plant stress in various time-scale and improve computing efficiency with reduced learning parameters in Fourier domain; 2) Capsule Feature Encoder to encapsulate the extracted features into a series of vector features to represent part-to-whole relationship with the hierarchical structure of the host-stress interactions of the specific stress. In addition, in order to alleviate over-fitting, a photochemical vegetation indices-based filter is placed as pre-processing operator to remove the non-photochemical noises from the input Sentinel-2 time series.

A Physics-Informed Low-Shot Learning For sEMG-Based Estimation of Muscle Force and Joint Kinematics

Muscle force and joint kinematics estimation from surface electromyography (sEMG) are essential for real-time biomechanical analysis of the dynamic interplay among neural muscle stimulation, muscle dynamics, and kinetics. Recent advances in deep neural networks (DNNs) have shown the potential to improve biomechanical analysis in a fully automated and reproducible manner. However, the small sample nature and physical interpretability of biomechanical analysis limit the applications of DNNs. This paper presents a novel physics-informed low-shot learning method for sEMG-based estimation of muscle force and joint kinematics. This method seamlessly integrates Lagrange's equation of motion and inverse dynamic muscle model into the generative adversarial network (GAN) framework for structured feature decoding and extrapolated estimation from the small sample data. Specifically, Lagrange's equation of motion is introduced into the generative model to restrain the structured decoding of the high-level features following the laws of physics. And a physics-informed policy gradient is designed to improve the adversarial learning efficiency by rewarding the consistent physical representation of the extrapolated estimations and the physical references. Experimental validations are conducted on two scenarios (i.e. the walking trials and wrist motion trials). Results indicate that the estimations of the muscle forces and joint kinematics are unbiased compared to the physics-based inverse dynamics, which outperforms the selected benchmark methods, including physics-informed convolution neural network (PI-CNN), vallina generative adversarial network (GAN), and multi-layer extreme learning machine (ML-ELM).

USR: Unsupervised Separated 3D Garment and Human Reconstruction via Geometry and Semantic Consistency

Dressed people reconstruction from images is a popular task with promising applications in the creative media and game industry. However, most existing methods reconstruct the human body and garments as a whole with the supervision of 3D models, which hinders the downstream interaction tasks and requires hard-to-obtain data. To address these issues, we propose an unsupervised separated 3D garments and human reconstruction model (USR), which reconstructs the human body and authentic textured clothes in layers without 3D models. More specifically, our method proposes a generalized surface-aware neural radiance field to learn the mapping between sparse multi-view images and geometries of the dressed people. Based on the full geometry, we introduce a Semantic and Confidence Guided Separation strategy (SCGS) to detect, segment, and reconstruct the clothes layer, leveraging the consistency between 2D semantic and 3D geometry. Moreover, we propose a Geometry Fine-tune Module to smooth edges. Extensive experiments on our dataset show that comparing with state-of-the-art methods, USR achieves improvements on both geometry and appearance reconstruction while supporting generalizing to unseen people in real time. Besides, we also introduce SMPL-D model to show the benefit of the separated modeling of clothes and the human body that allows swapping clothes and virtual try-on.

Mipmap-GS: Let Gaussians Deform with Scale-specific Mipmap for Anti-aliasing Rendering

3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) has attracted great attention in novel view synthesis because of its superior rendering efficiency and high fidelity. However, the trained Gaussians suffer from severe zooming degradation due to non-adjustable representation derived from single-scale training. Though some methods attempt to tackle this problem via post-processing techniques such as selective rendering or filtering techniques towards primitives, the scale-specific information is not involved in Gaussians. In this paper, we propose a unified optimization method to make Gaussians adaptive for arbitrary scales by self-adjusting the primitive properties (e.g., color, shape and size) and distribution (e.g., position). Inspired by the mipmap technique, we design pseudo ground-truth for the target scale and propose a scale-consistency guidance loss to inject scale information into 3D Gaussians. Our method is a plug-in module, applicable for any 3DGS models to solve the zoom-in and zoom-out aliasing. Extensive experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of our method. Notably, our method outperforms 3DGS in PSNR by an average of 9.25 dB for zoom-in and 10.40 dB for zoom-out on the NeRF Synthetic dataset.

GeoR-Bench: Evaluating Geoscience Visual Reasoning

Geoscience intelligence is expected to understand, reason about, and predict earth system changes to support human decision-making in critical domains such as disaster response, climate adaptation and environmental protection. Although current research has shown promising progress on specific geoscience tasks, such as remote sensing interpretation, geographic question-answering, existing benchmarks remain largely task-specific which failing to capture the open-ended real world geoscience problems. As a result, it remains unclear how far current AI systems are from achieving genuine geoscience intelligence. To address this gap, we present \textbf{GeoR-Bench}, a \underline{Bench}mark for evaluating \underline{Geo}science visual \underline{R}easoning through reasoning informed visual editing tasks. GeoR-Bench contains 440 curated samples spanning 6 geoscience categories and 24 task types, covering earth observation imagery and structured scientific representations such as maps and diagrams. We evaluate outputs along three dimensions, including reasoning, consistency, and quality. Benchmark results of 21 closed- and open-source multimodal models reveal that geoscience reasoning remains a critical bottleneck. The highest-performing model achieves 42.7\% overall strict accuracy, while the best open-source models only get 10.3\%. Notably, the visual consistency and image quality of the outputs frequently surpass their scientific accuracy. Ultimately, these findings indicate that current models generate superficially plausible results but fail to capture underlying earth science processes.

A WDLoRA-Based Multimodal Generative Framework for Clinically Guided Corneal Confocal Microscopy Image Synthesis in Diabetic Neuropathy

Corneal Confocal Microscopy (CCM) is a sensitive tool for assessing small-fiber damage in Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy (DPN), yet the development of robust, automated deep learning-based diagnostic models is limited by scarce labelled data and fine-grained variability in corneal nerve morphology. Although Artificial Intelligence (AI)-driven foundation generative models excel at natural image synthesis, they often struggle in medical imaging due to limited domain-specific training, compromising the anatomical fidelity required for clinical analysis. To overcome these limitations, we propose a Weight-Decomposed Low-Rank Adaptation (WDLoRA)-based multimodal generative framework for clinically guided CCM image synthesis. WDLoRA is a parameter-efficient fine-tuning (PEFT) mechanism that decouples magnitude and directional weight updates, enabling foundation generative models to independently learn the orientation (nerve topology) and intensity (stromal contrast) required for medical realism. By jointly conditioning on nerve segmentation masks and disease-specific clinical prompts, the model synthesises anatomically coherent images across the DPN spectrum (Control, T1NoDPN, T1DPN). A comprehensive three-pillar evaluation demonstrates that the proposed framework achieves state-of-the-art visual fidelity (Fréchet Inception Distance (FID): 5.18) and structural integrity (Structural Similarity Index Measure (SSIM): 0.630), significantly outperforming GAN and standard diffusion baselines. Crucially, the synthetic images preserve gold-standard clinical biomarkers and are statistically equivalent to real patient data. When used to train automated diagnostic models, the synthetic dataset improves downstream diagnostic accuracy by 2.1% and segmentation performance by 2.2%, validating the framework's potential to alleviate data bottlenecks in medical AI.

CEI-3D: Collaborative Explicit-Implicit 3D Reconstruction for Realistic and Fine-Grained Object Editing

Existing 3D editing methods often produce unrealistic and unrefined results due to the deeply integrated nature of their reconstruction networks. To address the challenge, this paper introduces CEI-3D, an editing-oriented reconstruction pipeline designed to facilitate realistic and fine-grained editing. Specifically, we propose a collaborative explicit-implicit reconstruction approach, which represents the target object using an implicit SDF network and a differentially sampled, locally controllable set of handler points. The implicit network provides a smooth and continuous geometry prior, while the explicit handler points offer localized control, enabling mutual guidance between the global 3D structure and user-specified local editing regions. To independently control each attribute of the handler points, we design a physical properties disentangling module to decouple the color of the handler points into separate physical properties. We also propose a dual-diffuse-albedo network in this module to process the edited and non-edited regions through separate branches, thereby preventing undesired interference from editing operations. Building on the reconstructed collaborative explicit-implicit representation with disentangled properties, we introduce a spatial-aware editing module that enables part-wise adjustment of relevant handler points. This module employs a cross-view propagation-based 3D segmentation strategy, which helps users to edit the specified physical attributes of a target part efficiently. Extensive experiments on both real and synthetic datasets demonstrate that our approach achieves more realistic and fine-grained editing results than the state-of-the-art (SOTA) methods while requiring less editing time. Efficient One-Step Diffusion Restoration Model with Compact Token Compression and Linear Attention

Real-world image super-resolution aims to recover high-quality images from complex and unknown real-world degradations. However, existing generative Real-ISR methods largely inherit the dense latent representations and quadratic-cost global modeling paradigm developed for high-resolution image synthesis, causing computation, memory usage, and inference latency to scale unfavorably with resolution and thus limiting practical deployment. We argue that the key bottleneck lies not in insufficient restoration priors, but in excessive token redundancy and costly token interactions during high-resolution restoration. Motivated by this observation, we revisit Real-ISR from the perspectives of compact latent representation and linear-complexity modeling, and propose SANA-SR, an efficient one-step restoration framework. Specifically, SANA-SR employs a deep compression autoencoder with a 32x compression ratio to drastically reduce latent tokens while preserving restoration-relevant structures and textures. On top of this compact latent space, we introduce a linear-attention DiT with LoRA fine-tuning, enabling efficient high-resolution restoration with linear-complexity token mixing. Extensive experiments on all benchmark datasets demonstrate that SANA-SR achieves highly competitive and often superior quantitative performance against existing methods, while restoring clearer and more realistic textures. Moreover, after pruning, the deployed model runs in 0.019s with 407.95G MACs and 344M parameters, highlighting its strong potential for practical mobile deployment.

R3DP: Real-Time 3D-Aware Policy for Embodied Manipulation

Embodied manipulation requires accurate 3D understanding of objects and their spatial relations to plan and execute contact-rich actions. While large-scale 3D vision models provide strong priors, their computational cost incurs prohibitive latency for real-time control. We propose Real-time 3D-aware Policy (R3DP), which integrates powerful 3D priors into manipulation policies without sacrificing real-time performance. A core innovation of R3DP is the asynchronous fast-slow collaboration module, which seamlessly integrates large-scale 3D priors into the policy without compromising real-time performance. The system maintains real-time efficiency by querying the pre-trained slow system (VGGT) only on sparse key frames, while simultaneously employing a lightweight Temporal Feature Prediction Network (TFPNet) to predict features for all intermediate frames. By leveraging historical data to exploit temporal correlations, TFPNet explicitly improves task success rates through consistent feature estimation. Additionally, to enable more effective multi-view fusion, we introduce a Multi-View Feature Fuser (MVFF) that aggregates features across views by explicitly incorporating camera intrinsics and extrinsics. R3DP offers a plug-and-play solution for integrating large models into real-time inference systems. We evaluate R3DP against multiple baselines across different visual configurations. R3DP effectively harnesses large-scale 3D priors to achieve superior results, outperforming single-view and multi-view DP by 32.9% and 51.4% in average success rate, respectively. Furthermore, by decoupling heavy 3D reasoning from policy execution, R3DP achieves a 44.8% reduction in inference time compared to a naive DP+VGGT integration.

Rein3D: Reinforced 3D Indoor Scene Generation with Panoramic Video Diffusion Models

The growing demand for Embodied AI and VR applications has highlighted the need for synthesizing high-quality 3D indoor scenes from sparse inputs. However, existing approaches struggle to infer massive amounts of missing geometry in large unseen areas while maintaining global consistency, often producing locally plausible but globally inconsistent reconstructions. We present Rein3D, a framework that reconstructs full 360-degree indoor environments by coupling explicit 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) with temporally coherent priors from video diffusion models. Our approach follows a "restore-and-refine" paradigm: we employ a radial exploration strategy to render imperfect panoramic videos along trajectories starting from the origin, effectively uncovering occluded regions from a coarse 3DGS initialization. These sequences are restored by a panoramic video-to-video diffusion model and further enhanced via video super-resolution to synthesize high-fidelity geometry and textures. Finally, these refined videos serve as pseudo-ground truths to update the global 3D Gaussian field. To support this task, we construct PanoV2V-15K, a dataset of over 15K paired clean and degraded panoramic videos for diffusion-based scene restoration. Experiments demonstrate that Rein3D produces photorealistic and globally consistent 3D scenes and significantly improves long-range camera exploration compared with existing baselines.

AgriPINN: A Process-Informed Neural Network for Interpretable and Scalable Crop Biomass Prediction Under Water Stress

Accurate prediction of crop above-ground biomass (AGB) under water stress is critical for monitoring crop productivity, guiding irrigation, and supporting climate-resilient agriculture. Data-driven models scale well but often lack interpretability and degrade under distribution shift, whereas process-based crop models (e.g. DSSAT, APSIM, LINTUL5) require extensive calibration and are difficult to deploy over large spatial domains. To address these limitations, we propose AgriPINN, a process-informed neural network that integrates a biophysical crop-growth differential equation as a differentiable constraint within a deep learning backbone. This design encourages physiologically consistent biomass dynamics under water-stress conditions while preserving model scalability for spatially distributed AGB prediction. AgriPINN recovers latent physiological variables, including leaf area index (LAI), absorbed photosynthetically active radiation (PAR), radiation use efficiency (RUE), and water-stress factors, without requiring direct supervision. We pretrain AgriPINN on 60 years of historical data across 397 regions in Germany and fine-tune it on three years of field experiments under controlled water treatments. Results show that AgriPINN consistently outperforms state-of-the-art deep-learning baselines (ConvLSTM-ViT, SLTF, CNN-Transformer) and the process-based LINTUL5 model in terms of accuracy (RMSE reductions up to $43\%$) and computational efficiency. By combining the scalability of deep learning with the biophysical rigor of process-based modeling, AgriPINN provides a robust and interpretable framework for spatio-temporal AGB prediction, offering practical value for planning of irrigation infrastructure, yield forecasting, and climate-adaptation planning.

The bionic neural network for external simulation of human locomotor system

Muscle forces and joint kinematics estimated with musculoskeletal (MSK) modeling techniques offer useful metrics describing movement quality. Model-based computational MSK models can interpret the dynamic interaction between the neural drive to muscles, muscle dynamics, body and joint kinematics, and kinetics. Still, such a set of solutions suffers from high computational time and muscle recruitment problems, especially in complex modeling. In recent years, data-driven methods have emerged as a promising alternative due to the benefits of flexibility and adaptability. However, a large amount of labeled training data is not easy to be acquired. This paper proposes a physics-informed deep learning method based on MSK modeling to predict joint motion and muscle forces. The MSK model is embedded into the neural network as an ordinary differential equation (ODE) loss function with physiological parameters of muscle activation dynamics and muscle contraction dynamics to be identified. These parameters are automatically estimated during the training process which guides the prediction of muscle forces combined with the MSK forward dynamics model. Experimental validations on two groups of data, including one benchmark dataset and one self-collected dataset from six healthy subjects, are performed. The results demonstrate that the proposed deep learning method can effectively identify subject-specific MSK physiological parameters and the trained physics-informed forward-dynamics surrogate yields accurate motion and muscle forces predictions.

GeoTopoDiff: Learning Geometry--Topology Graph Priors through Boundary-Constrained Mixed Diffusion for Sparse-Slice 3D Porous Reconstruction

Diffusion-based voxel prior modelling is challenging for the reconstruction of large-scale 3D porous microstructures. Due to the demanding requirements for simultaneously modelling both the continuous pore morphology and the discrete pore-throat topology, the diffusion models require fully observed CT scans to provide topology-faithful priors, which results in an inherent trade-off among throughput, topological fidelity, and field of view in practical industrial applications. We propose GeoTopoDiff, a graph diffusion-based framework for reconstructing 3D porous microstructures from sparse CT slices. GeoTopoDiff transfers the learning of diffusion priors from a voxel-based space to a mixed graph state space, which simultaneously encompasses continuous pore geometry and discrete pore-throat topology. A topology-aware partial graph prior from sparsely observed CT slices is introduced to constrain the reverse denoising process. Experiments on anisotropic PTFE and Fontainebleau sandstone show that GeoTopoDiff reduces morphology-related errors by 19.8% and topology-sensitive transport errors by 36.5% on average. Our findings suggest that the mixed graph state space promotes the diffusion denoising process to reduce posterior uncertainty under a sparse observations. All models and code have been made publicly available to facilitate the exploration of diffusion models in the field of 3D porous microstructures simulation.

The online learning architecture with edge computing for high-level control for assisting patients

The prevalence of mobility impairments due to conditions such as spinal cord injuries, strokes, and degenerative diseases is on the rise globally. Lower-limb exoskeletons have been increasingly recognized as a viable solution for enhancing mobility and rehabilitation for individuals with such impairments. However, existing exoskeleton control systems often suffer from limitations such as latency, lack of adaptability, and computational inefficiency. To address these challenges, this paper introduces a novel online adversarial learning architecture integrated with edge computing for high-level lower-limb exoskeleton control. In the proposed architecture, sensor data from the user is processed in real-time through edge computing nodes, which then interact with an online adversarial learning model. This model adapts to the user's specific needs and controls the exoskeleton with minimal latency. Experimental evaluations demonstrate significant improvements in control accuracy and adaptability, as well as enhanced quality-of-service (QoS) metrics. These findings indicate that the integration of online adversarial learning with edge computing offers a robust and efficient approach for the next generation of lower-limb exoskeleton control systems.

Deep Learning Meets Process-Based Models: A Hybrid Approach to Agricultural Challenges

Process-based models (PBMs) and deep learning (DL) are two key approaches in agricultural modelling, each offering distinct advantages and limitations. PBMs provide mechanistic insights based on physical and biological principles, ensuring interpretability and scientific rigour. However, they often struggle with scalability, parameterisation, and adaptation to heterogeneous environments. In contrast, DL models excel at capturing complex, nonlinear patterns from large datasets but may suffer from limited interpretability, high computational demands, and overfitting in data-scarce scenarios. This study presents a systematic review of PBMs, DL models, and hybrid PBM-DL frameworks, highlighting their applications in agricultural and environmental modelling. We classify hybrid PBM-DL approaches into DL-informed PBMs, where neural networks refine process-based models, and PBM-informed DL, where physical constraints guide deep learning predictions. Additionally, we conduct a case study on crop dry biomass prediction, comparing hybrid models against standalone PBMs and DL models under varying data quality, sample sizes, and spatial conditions. The results demonstrate that hybrid models consistently outperform traditional PBMs and DL models, offering greater robustness to noisy data and improved generalisation across unseen locations. Finally, we discuss key challenges, including model interpretability, scalability, and data requirements, alongside actionable recommendations for advancing hybrid modelling in agriculture. By integrating domain knowledge with AI-driven approaches, this study contributes to the development of scalable, interpretable, and reproducible agricultural models that support data-driven decision-making for sustainable agriculture.

DualNeRF: Text-Driven 3D Scene Editing via Dual-Field Representation

Recently, denoising diffusion models have achieved promising results in 2D image generation and editing. Instruct-NeRF2NeRF (IN2N) introduces the success of diffusion into 3D scene editing through an "Iterative dataset update" (IDU) strategy. Though achieving fascinating results, IN2N suffers from problems of blurry backgrounds and trapping in local optima. The first problem is caused by IN2N's lack of efficient guidance for background maintenance, while the second stems from the interaction between image editing and NeRF training during IDU. In this work, we introduce DualNeRF to deal with these problems. We propose a dual-field representation to preserve features of the original scene and utilize them as additional guidance to the model for background maintenance during IDU. Moreover, a simulated annealing strategy is embedded into IDU to endow our model with the power of addressing local optima issues. A CLIP-based consistency indicator is used to further improve the editing quality by filtering out low-quality edits. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our method outperforms previous methods both qualitatively and quantitatively.

Accurate and Scalable Multimodal Pathology Retrieval via Attentive Vision-Language Alignment

The rapid digitization of histopathology slides has opened up new possibilities for computational tools in clinical and research workflows. Among these, content-based slide retrieval stands out, enabling pathologists to identify morphologically and semantically similar cases, thereby supporting precise diagnoses, enhancing consistency across observers, and assisting example-based education. However, effective retrieval of whole slide images (WSIs) remains challenging due to their gigapixel scale and the difficulty of capturing subtle semantic differences amid abundant irrelevant content. To overcome these challenges, we present PathSearch, a retrieval framework that unifies fine-grained attentive mosaic representations with global-wise slide embeddings aligned through vision-language contrastive learning. Trained on a corpus of 6,926 slide-report pairs, PathSearch captures both fine-grained morphological cues and high-level semantic patterns to enable accurate and flexible retrieval. The framework supports two key functionalities: (1) mosaic-based image-to-image retrieval, ensuring accurate and efficient slide research; and (2) multi-modal retrieval, where text queries can directly retrieve relevant slides. PathSearch was rigorously evaluated on four public pathology datasets and three in-house cohorts, covering tasks including anatomical site retrieval, tumor subtyping, tumor vs. non-tumor discrimination, and grading across diverse organs such as breast, lung, kidney, liver, and stomach. External results show that PathSearch outperforms traditional image-to-image retrieval frameworks. A multi-center reader study further demonstrates that PathSearch improves diagnostic accuracy, boosts confidence, and enhances inter-observer agreement among pathologists in real clinical scenarios. These results establish PathSearch as a scalable and generalizable retrieval solution for digital pathology.

HPR3D: Hierarchical Proxy Representation for High-Fidelity 3D Reconstruction and Controllable Editing

Current 3D representations like meshes, voxels, point clouds, and NeRF-based neural implicit fields exhibit significant limitations: they are often task-specific, lacking universal applicability across reconstruction, generation, editing, and driving. While meshes offer high precision, their dense vertex data complicates editing; NeRFs deliver excellent rendering but suffer from structural ambiguity, hindering animation and manipulation; all representations inherently struggle with the trade-off between data complexity and fidelity. To overcome these issues, we introduce a novel 3D Hierarchical Proxy Node representation. Its core innovation lies in representing an object's shape and texture via a sparse set of hierarchically organized (tree-structured) proxy nodes distributed on its surface and interior. Each node stores local shape and texture information (implicitly encoded by a small MLP) within its neighborhood. Querying any 3D coordinate's properties involves efficient neural interpolation and lightweight decoding from relevant nearby and parent nodes. This framework yields a highly compact representation where nodes align with local semantics, enabling direct drag-and-edit manipulation, and offers scalable quality-complexity control. Extensive experiments across 3D reconstruction and editing demonstrate our method's expressive efficiency, high-fidelity rendering quality, and superior editability.

HMSViT: A Hierarchical Masked Self-Supervised Vision Transformer for Corneal Nerve Segmentation and Diabetic Neuropathy Diagnosis

Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy (DPN) affects nearly half of diabetes patients, requiring early detection. Corneal Confocal Microscopy (CCM) enables non-invasive diagnosis, but automated methods suffer from inefficient feature extraction, reliance on handcrafted priors, and data limitations. We propose HMSViT, a novel Hierarchical Masked Self-Supervised Vision Transformer (HMSViT) designed for corneal nerve segmentation and DPN diagnosis. Unlike existing methods, HMSViT employs pooling-based hierarchical and dual attention mechanisms with absolute positional encoding, enabling efficient multi-scale feature extraction by capturing fine-grained local details in early layers and integrating global context in deeper layers, all at a lower computational cost. A block-masked self supervised learning framework is designed for the HMSViT that reduces reliance on labelled data, enhancing feature robustness, while a multi-scale decoder is used for segmentation and classification by fusing hierarchical features. Experiments on clinical CCM datasets showed HMSViT achieves state-of-the-art performance, with 61.34% mIoU for nerve segmentation and 70.40% diagnostic accuracy, outperforming leading hierarchical models like the Swin Transformer and HiViT by margins of up to 6.39% in segmentation accuracy while using fewer parameters. Detailed ablation studies further reveal that integrating block-masked SSL with hierarchical multi-scale feature extraction substantially enhances performance compared to conventional supervised training. Overall, these comprehensive experiments confirm that HMSViT delivers excellent, robust, and clinically viable results, demonstrating its potential for scalable deployment in real-world diagnostic applications.

InstantSticker: Realistic Decal Blending via Disentangled Object Reconstruction

We present InstantSticker, a disentangled reconstruction pipeline based on Image-Based Lighting (IBL), which focuses on highly realistic decal blending, simulates stickers attached to the reconstructed surface, and allows for instant editing and real-time rendering. To achieve stereoscopic impression of the decal, we introduce shadow factor into IBL, which can be adaptively optimized during training. This allows the shadow brightness of surfaces to be accurately decomposed rather than baked into the diffuse color, ensuring that the edited texture exhibits authentic shading. To address the issues of warping and blurriness in previous methods, we apply As-Rigid-As-Possible (ARAP) parameterization to pre-unfold a specified area of the mesh and use the local UV mapping combined with a neural texture map to enhance the ability to express high-frequency details in that area. For instant editing, we utilize the Disney BRDF model, explicitly defining material colors with 3-channel diffuse albedo. This enables instant replacement of albedo RGB values during the editing process, avoiding the prolonged optimization required in previous approaches. In our experiment, we introduce the Ratio Variance Warping (RVW) metric to evaluate the local geometric warping of the decal area. Extensive experimental results demonstrate that our method surpasses previous decal blending methods in terms of editing quality, editing speed and rendering speed, achieving the state-of-the-art.

WaveDiffUR: A diffusion SDE-based solver for ultra magnification super-resolution in remote sensing images

Deep neural networks have recently achieved significant advancements in remote sensing superresolu-tion (SR). However, most existing methods are limited to low magnification rates (e.g., 2 or 4) due to the escalating ill-posedness at higher magnification scales. To tackle this challenge, we redefine high-magnification SR as the ultra-resolution (UR) problem, reframing it as solving a conditional diffusion stochastic differential equation (SDE). In this context, we propose WaveDiffUR, a novel wavelet-domain diffusion UR solver that decomposes the UR process into sequential sub-processes addressing conditional wavelet components. WaveDiffUR iteratively reconstructs low-frequency wavelet details (ensuring global consistency) and high-frequency components (enhancing local fidelity) by incorporating pre-trained SR models as plug-and-play modules. This modularity mitigates the ill-posedness of the SDE and ensures scalability across diverse applications. To address limitations in fixed boundary conditions at extreme magnifications, we introduce the cross-scale pyramid (CSP) constraint, a dynamic and adaptive framework that guides WaveDiffUR in generating fine-grained wavelet details, ensuring consistent and high-fidelity outputs even at extreme magnification rates.

A Latent Encoder Coupled Generative Adversarial Network (LE-GAN) for Efficient Hyperspectral Image Super-resolution

Realistic hyperspectral image (HSI) super-resolution (SR) techniques aim to generate a high-resolution (HR) HSI with higher spectral and spatial fidelity from its low-resolution (LR) counterpart. The generative adversarial network (GAN) has proven to be an effective deep learning framework for image super-resolution. However, the optimisation process of existing GAN-based models frequently suffers from the problem of mode collapse, leading to the limited capacity of spectral-spatial invariant reconstruction. This may cause the spectral-spatial distortion on the generated HSI, especially with a large upscaling factor. To alleviate the problem of mode collapse, this work has proposed a novel GAN model coupled with a latent encoder (LE-GAN), which can map the generated spectral-spatial features from the image space to the latent space and produce a coupling component to regularise the generated samples. Essentially, we treat an HSI as a high-dimensional manifold embedded in a latent space. Thus, the optimisation of GAN models is converted to the problem of learning the distributions of high-resolution HSI samples in the latent space, making the distributions of the generated super-resolution HSIs closer to those of their original high-resolution counterparts. We have conducted experimental evaluations on the model performance of super-resolution and its capability in alleviating mode collapse. The proposed approach has been tested and validated based on two real HSI datasets with different sensors (i.e. AVIRIS and UHD-185) for various upscaling factors and added noise levels, and compared with the state-of-the-art super-resolution models (i.e. HyCoNet, LTTR, BAGAN, SR- GAN, WGAN).

A Novel CropdocNet for Automated Potato Late Blight Disease Detection from the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle-based Hyperspectral Imagery

Late blight disease is one of the most destructive diseases in potato crop, leading to serious yield losses globally. Accurate diagnosis of the disease at early stage is critical for precision disease control and management. Current farm practices in crop disease diagnosis are based on manual visual inspection, which is costly, time consuming, subject to individual bias. Recent advances in imaging sensors (e.g. RGB, multiple spectral and hyperspectral cameras), remote sensing and machine learning offer the opportunity to address this challenge. Particularly, hyperspectral imagery (HSI) combining with machine learning/deep learning approaches is preferable for accurately identifying specific plant diseases because the HSI consists of a wide range of high-quality reflectance information beyond human vision, capable of capturing both spectral-spatial information. The proposed method considers the potential disease specific reflectance radiation variance caused by the canopy structural diversity, introduces the multiple capsule layers to model the hierarchical structure of the spectral-spatial disease attributes with the encapsulated features to represent the various classes and the rotation invariance of the disease attributes in the feature space. We have evaluated the proposed method with the real UAV-based HSI data under the controlled field conditions. The effectiveness of the hierarchical features has been quantitatively assessed and compared with the existing representative machine learning/deep learning methods. The experiment results show that the proposed model significantly improves the accuracy performance when considering hierarchical-structure of spectral-spatial features, comparing to the existing methods only using spectral, or spatial or spectral-spatial features without consider hierarchical-structure of spectral-spatial features.

Fast Object Detection with Latticed Multi-Scale Feature Fusion

Scale variance is one of the crucial challenges in multi-scale object detection. Early approaches address this problem by exploiting the image and feature pyramid, which raises suboptimal results with computation burden and constrains from inherent network structures. Pioneering works also propose multi-scale (i.e., multi-level and multi-branch) feature fusions to remedy the issue and have achieved encouraging progress. However, existing fusions still have certain limitations such as feature scale inconsistency, ignorance of level-wise semantic transformation, and coarse granularity. In this work, we present a novel module, the Fluff block, to alleviate drawbacks of current multi-scale fusion methods and facilitate multi-scale object detection. Specifically, Fluff leverages both multi-level and multi-branch schemes with dilated convolutions to have rapid, effective and finer-grained feature fusions. Furthermore, we integrate Fluff to SSD as FluffNet, a powerful real-time single-stage detector for multi-scale object detection. Empirical results on MS COCO and PASCAL VOC have demonstrated that FluffNet obtains remarkable efficiency with state-of-the-art accuracy. Additionally, we indicate the great generality of the Fluff block by showing how to embed it to other widely-used detectors as well.

A Biologically Interpretable Two-stage Deep Neural Network (BIT-DNN) For Vegetation Recognition From Hyperspectral Imagery

Spectral-spatial based deep learning models have recently proven to be effective in hyperspectral image (HSI) classification for various earth monitoring applications such as land cover classification and agricultural monitoring. However, due to the nature of "black-box" model representation, how to explain and interpret the learning process and the model decision, especially for vegetation classification, remains an open challenge. This study proposes a novel interpretable deep learning model -- a biologically interpretable two-stage deep neural network (BIT-DNN), by incorporating the prior-knowledge (i.e. biophysical and biochemical attributes and their hierarchical structures of target entities) based spectral-spatial feature transformation into the proposed framework, capable of achieving both high accuracy and interpretability on HSI based classification tasks. The proposed model introduces a two-stage feature learning process: in the first stage, an enhanced interpretable feature block extracts the low-level spectral features associated with the biophysical and biochemical attributes of target entities; and in the second stage, an interpretable capsule block extracts and encapsulates the high-level joint spectral-spatial features representing the hierarchical structure of biophysical and biochemical attributes of these target entities, which provides the model an improved performance on classification and intrinsic interpretability with reduced computational complexity. We have tested and evaluated the model using four real HSI datasets for four separate tasks (i.e. plant species classification, land cover classification, urban scene recognition, and crop disease recognition tasks). The proposed model has been compared with five state-of-the-art deep learning models.

This paper discusses about the challenges, advantages and shortcomings of existing solutions in data security and privacy in public cloud computing. As in cloud computing, oceans of data will be stored. Data stored in public cloud would face both outside attacks and inside attacks since public cloud provider themselves are untrusted. Conventional encryption could be used for storage, however most data in cloud needs further computation. Decryption before computation will cause large overheads for data operation and lots of inconvenience. Thus, efficient methods to protect data security as well as privacy for large amount of data in cloud are necessary. In the paper, different mechanisms to protect data security and privacy in public cloud are discussed. A data security and privacy enabled multi-cloud architecture is proposed.

On Sampling Strategies for Neural Network-based Collaborative Filtering

Recent advances in neural networks have inspired people to design hybrid recommendation algorithms that can incorporate both (1) user-item interaction information and (2) content information including image, audio, and text. Despite their promising results, neural network-based recommendation algorithms pose extensive computational costs, making it challenging to scale and improve upon. In this paper, we propose a general neural network-based recommendation framework, which subsumes several existing state-of-the-art recommendation algorithms, and address the efficiency issue by investigating sampling strategies in the stochastic gradient descent training for the framework. We tackle this issue by first establishing a connection between the loss functions and the user-item interaction bipartite graph, where the loss function terms are defined on links while major computation burdens are located at nodes. We call this type of loss functions "graph-based" loss functions, for which varied mini-batch sampling strategies can have different computational costs. Based on the insight, three novel sampling strategies are proposed, which can significantly improve the training efficiency of the proposed framework (up to $\times 30$ times speedup in our experiments), as well as improving the recommendation performance. Theoretical analysis is also provided for both the computational cost and the convergence. We believe the study of sampling strategies have further implications on general graph-based loss functions, and would also enable more research under the neural network-based recommendation framework.

Joint Text Embedding for Personalized Content-based Recommendation

Learning a good representation of text is key to many recommendation applications. Examples include news recommendation where texts to be recommended are constantly published everyday. However, most existing recommendation techniques, such as matrix factorization based methods, mainly rely on interaction histories to learn representations of items. While latent factors of items can be learned effectively from user interaction data, in many cases, such data is not available, especially for newly emerged items. In this work, we aim to address the problem of personalized recommendation for completely new items with text information available. We cast the problem as a personalized text ranking problem and propose a general framework that combines text embedding with personalized recommendation. Users and textual content are embedded into latent feature space. The text embedding function can be learned end-to-end by predicting user interactions with items. To alleviate sparsity in interaction data, and leverage large amount of text data with little or no user interactions, we further propose a joint text embedding model that incorporates unsupervised text embedding with a combination module. Experimental results show that our model can significantly improve the effectiveness of recommendation systems on real-world datasets.

The Apps You Use Bring The Blogs to Follow

We tackle the blog recommendation problem in Tumblr for mobile users in this paper. Blog recommendation is challenging since most mobile users would suffer from the cold start when there are only a limited number of blogs followed by the user. Specifically to address this problem in the mobile domain, we take into account mobile apps, which typically provide rich information from the users. Based on the assumption that the user interests can be reflected from their app usage patterns, we propose to exploit the app usage data for improving blog recommendation. Building on the state-of-the-art recommendation framework, Factorization Machines (FM), we implement app-based FM that integrates app usage data with the user-blog follow relations. In this approach the blog recommendation is generated not only based on the blogs that the user followed before, but also the apps that the user has often used. We demonstrate in a series of experiments that app-based FM can outperform other alternative approaches to a significant extent. Our experimental results also show that exploiting app usage information is particularly effective for improving blog recommendation quality for cold start users.

Learning Optimal Card Ranking from Query Reformulation

Mobile search has recently been shown to be the major contributor to the growing search market. The key difference between mobile search and desktop search is that information presentation is limited to the screen space of the mobile device. Thus, major search engines have adopted a new type of search result presentation, known as \textit{information cards}, in which each card presents summarized results from one domain/vertical, for a given query, to augment the standard blue-links search results. While it has been widely acknowledged that information cards are particularly suited to mobile user experience, it is also challenging to optimize such result sets. Typically, user engagement metrics like query reformulation are based on whole ranked list of cards for each query and most traditional learning to rank algorithms require per-item relevance labels. In this paper, we investigate the possibility of interpreting query reformulation into effective relevance labels for query-card pairs. We inherit the concept of conventional learning-to-rank, and propose pointwise, pairwise and listwise interpretations for query reformulation. In addition, we propose a learning-to-label strategy that learns the contribution of each card, with respect to a query, where such contributions can be used as labels for training card ranking models. We utilize a state-of-the-art ranking model and demonstrate the effectiveness of proposed mechanisms on a large-scale mobile data from a major search engine, showing that models trained from labels derived from user engagement can significantly outperform ones trained from human judgment labels.

Learning Subclass Representations for Visually-varied Image Classification

In this paper, we present a subclass-representation approach that predicts the probability of a social image belonging to one particular class. We explore the co-occurrence of user-contributed tags to find subclasses with a strong connection to the top level class. We then project each image on to the resulting subclass space to generate a subclass representation for the image. The novelty of the approach is that subclass representations make use of not only the content of the photos themselves, but also information on the co-occurrence of their tags, which determines membership in both subclasses and top-level classes. The novelty is also that the images are classified into smaller classes, which have a chance of being more visually stable and easier to model. These subclasses are used as a latent space and images are represented in this space by their probability of relatedness to all of the subclasses. In contrast to approaches directly modeling each top-level class based on the image content, the proposed method can exploit more information for visually diverse classes. The approach is evaluated on a set of $2$ million photos with 10 classes, released by the Multimedia 2013 Yahoo! Large-scale Flickr-tag Image Classification Grand Challenge. Experiments show that the proposed system delivers sound performance for visually diverse classes compared with methods that directly model top classes.

GAPfm: Optimal Top-N Recommendations for Graded Relevance Domains

Recommender systems are frequently used in domains in which users express their preferences in the form of graded judgments, such as ratings. If accurate top-N recommendation lists are to be produced for such graded relevance domains, it is critical to generate a ranked list of recommended items directly rather than predicting ratings. Current techniques choose one of two sub-optimal approaches: either they optimize for a binary metric such as Average Precision, which discards information on relevance grades, or they optimize for Normalized Discounted Cumulative Gain (NDCG), which ignores the dependence of an item's contribution on the relevance of more highly ranked items. In this paper, we address the shortcomings of existing approaches by proposing the Graded Average Precision factor model (GAPfm), a latent factor model that is particularly suited to the problem of top-N recommendation in domains with graded relevance data. The model optimizes for Graded Average Precision, a metric that has been proposed recently for assessing the quality of ranked results list for graded relevance. GAPfm learns a latent factor model by directly optimizing a smoothed approximation of GAP. GAPfm's advantages are twofold: it maintains full information about graded relevance and also addresses the limitations of models that optimize NDCG. Experimental results show that GAPfm achieves substantial improvements on the top-N recommendation task, compared to several state-of-the-art approaches. In order to ensure that GAPfm is able to scale to very large data sets, we propose a fast learning algorithm that uses an adaptive item selection strategy. A final experiment shows that GAPfm is useful not only for generating recommendation lists, but also for ranking a given list of rated items.

Exploiting Social Tags for Cross-Domain Collaborative Filtering

One of the most challenging problems in recommender systems based on the collaborative filtering (CF) concept is data sparseness, i.e., limited user preference data is available for making recommendations. Cross-domain collaborative filtering (CDCF) has been studied as an effective mechanism to alleviate data sparseness of one domain using the knowledge about user preferences from other domains. A key question to be answered in the context of CDCF is what common characteristics can be deployed to link different domains for effective knowledge transfer. In this paper, we assess the usefulness of user-contributed (social) tags in this respect. We do so by means of the Generalized Tag-induced Cross-domain Collaborative Filtering (GTagCDCF) approach that we propose in this paper and that we developed based on the general collective matrix factorization framework. Assessment is done by a series of experiments, using publicly available CF datasets that represent three cross-domain cases, i.e., two two-domain cases and one three-domain case. A comparative analysis on two-domain cases involving GTagCDCF and several state-of-the-art CDCF approaches indicates the increased benefit of using social tags as representatives of explicit links between domains for CDCF as compared to the implicit links deployed by the existing CDCF methods. In addition, we show that users from different domains can already benefit from GTagCDCF if they only share a few common tags. Finally, we use the three-domain case to validate the robustness of GTagCDCF with respect to the scale of datasets and the varying number of domains.
