Hotel Booking Cancellation Prediction Using Applied Bayesian Models

Md Asifuzzaman Jishan, Vikas Singh, Ayan Kumar Ghosh et al.

This study applies Bayesian models to predict hotel booking cancellations, a key challenge affecting resource allocation, revenue, and customer satisfaction in the hospitality industry. Using a Kaggle dataset with 36,285 observations and 17 features, Bayesian Logistic Regression and Beta-Binomial models were implemented. The logistic model, applied to 12 features and 5,000 randomly selected observations, outperformed the Beta-Binomial model in predictive accuracy. Key predictors included the number of adults, children, stay duration, lead time, car parking space, room type, and special requests. Model evaluation using Leave-One-Out Cross-Validation (LOO-CV) confirmed strong alignment between observed and predicted outcomes, demonstrating the model's robustness. Special requests and parking availability were found to be the strongest predictors of cancellation. This Bayesian approach provides a valuable tool for improving booking management and operational efficiency in the hotel industry.

Bayesian Regression for Predicting Subscription to Bank Term Deposits in Direct Marketing Campaigns

Muhammad Farhan Tanvir, Md Maruf Hossain, Md Asifuzzaman Jishan

In the highly competitive environment of the banking industry, it is essential to precisely forecast the behavior of customers in order to maximize the effectiveness of marketing initiatives and improve financial consequences. The purpose of this research is to examine the efficacy of logit and probit models in predicting term deposit subscriptions using a Portuguese bank's direct marketing data. There are several demographic, economic, and behavioral characteristics in the dataset that affect the probability of subscribing. To increase model performance and provide an unbiased evaluation, the target variable was balanced, considering the inherent imbalance in the dataset. The two model's prediction abilities were evaluated using Bayesian techniques and Leave-One-Out Cross-Validation (LOO-CV). The logit model performed better than the probit model in handling this classification problem. The results highlight the relevance of model selection when dealing with complicated decision-making processes in the financial services industry and imbalanced datasets. Findings from this study shed light on how banks can optimize their decision-making processes, improve their client segmentation, and boost their marketing campaigns by utilizing machine learning models.

Physics-Guided Deep Learning for Heat Pump Stress Detection: A Comprehensive Analysis on When2Heat Dataset

Md Shahabub Alam, Md Asifuzzaman Jishan, Ayan Kumar Ghosh

Heat pump systems are critical components in modern energy-efficient buildings, yet their operational stress detection remains challenging due to complex thermodynamic interactions and limited real-world data. This paper presents a novel Physics-Guided Deep Neural Network (PG-DNN) approach for heat pump stress classification using the When2Heat dataset, containing 131,483 samples with 656 features across 26 European countries. The methodology integrates physics-guided feature selection and class definition with a deep neural network architecture featuring 5 hidden layers and dual regularization strategies. The model achieves 78.1\% test accuracy and 78.5% validation accuracy, demonstrating significant improvements over baseline approaches: +5.0% over shallow networks, +4.0% over limited feature sets, and +2.0% over single regularization strategies. Comprehensive ablation studies validate the effectiveness of physics-guided feature selection, variable thresholding for realistic class distribution, and cross-country energy pattern analysis. The proposed system provides a production-ready solution for heat pump stress detection with 181,348 parameters and 720 seconds training time on AMD Ryzen 9 7950X with RTX 4080 hardware.

Characterization and recognition of handwritten digits using Julia

M. A. Jishan, M. S. Alam, Afrida Islam et al.

Automatic image and digit recognition is a computationally challenging task for image processing and pattern recognition, requiring an adequate appreciation of the syntactic and semantic importance of the image for the identification ofthe handwritten digits. Image and Pattern Recognition has been identified as one of the driving forces in the research areas because of its shifting of different types of applications, such as safety frameworks, clinical frameworks, diversion, and so on.In this study, for recognition, we implemented a hybrid neural network model that is capable of recognizing the digit of MNISTdataset and achieved a remarkable result. The proposed neural model network can extract features from the image and recognize the features in the layer by layer. To expand, it is so important for the neural network to recognize how the proposed modelcan work in each layer, how it can generate output, and so on. Besides, it also can recognize the auto-encoding system and the variational auto-encoding system of the MNIST dataset. This study will explore those issues that are discussed above, and the explanation for them, and how this phenomenon can be overcome.

TextMage: The Automated Bangla Caption Generator Based On Deep Learning

Abrar Hasin Kamal, Md. Asifuzzaman Jishan, Nafees Mansoor

Neural Networks and Deep Learning have seen an upsurge of research in the past decade due to the improved results. Generates text from the given image is a crucial task that requires the combination of both sectors which are computer vision and natural language processing in order to understand an image and represent it using a natural language. However existing works have all been done on a particular lingual domain and on the same set of data. This leads to the systems being developed to perform poorly on images that belong to specific locales' geographical context. TextMage is a system that is capable of understanding visual scenes that belong to the Bangladeshi geographical context and use its knowledge to represent what it understands in Bengali. Hence, we have trained a model on our previously developed and published dataset named BanglaLekhaImageCaptions. This dataset contains 9,154 images along with two annotations for each image. In order to access performance, the proposed model has been implemented and evaluated.
