Phi-4-Mini Technical Report: Compact yet Powerful Multimodal Language Models via Mixture-of-LoRAsAbdelrahman Abouelenin, Atabak Ashfaq, Adam Atkinson et al. · microsoft-research
We introduce Phi-4-Mini and Phi-4-Multimodal, compact yet highly capable language and multimodal models. Phi-4-Mini is a 3.8-billion-parameter language model trained on high-quality web and synthetic data, significantly outperforming recent open-source models of similar size and matching the performance of models twice its size on math and coding tasks requiring complex reasoning. This achievement is driven by a carefully curated synthetic data recipe emphasizing high-quality math and coding datasets. Compared to its predecessor, Phi-3.5-Mini, Phi-4-Mini features an expanded vocabulary size of 200K tokens to better support multilingual applications, as well as group query attention for more efficient long-sequence generation. Phi-4-Multimodal is a multimodal model that integrates text, vision, and speech/audio input modalities into a single model. Its novel modality extension approach leverages LoRA adapters and modality-specific routers to allow multiple inference modes combining various modalities without interference. For example, it now ranks first in the OpenASR leaderboard to date, although the LoRA component of the speech/audio modality has just 460 million parameters. Phi-4-Multimodal supports scenarios involving (vision + language), (vision + speech), and (speech/audio) inputs, outperforming larger vision-language and speech-language models on a wide range of tasks. Additionally, we experiment to further train Phi-4-Mini to enhance its reasoning capabilities. Despite its compact 3.8-billion-parameter size, this experimental version achieves reasoning performance on par with or surpassing significantly larger models, including DeepSeek-R1-Distill-Qwen-7B and DeepSeek-R1-Distill-Llama-8B.

Implicit Temporal Modeling with Learnable Alignment for Video RecognitionShuyuan Tu, Qi Dai, Zuxuan Wu et al. · cmu, uw
Contrastive language-image pretraining (CLIP) has demonstrated remarkable success in various image tasks. However, how to extend CLIP with effective temporal modeling is still an open and crucial problem. Existing factorized or joint spatial-temporal modeling trades off between the efficiency and performance. While modeling temporal information within straight through tube is widely adopted in literature, we find that simple frame alignment already provides enough essence without temporal attention. To this end, in this paper, we proposed a novel Implicit Learnable Alignment (ILA) method, which minimizes the temporal modeling effort while achieving incredibly high performance. Specifically, for a frame pair, an interactive point is predicted in each frame, serving as a mutual information rich region. By enhancing the features around the interactive point, two frames are implicitly aligned. The aligned features are then pooled into a single token, which is leveraged in the subsequent spatial self-attention. Our method allows eliminating the costly or insufficient temporal self-attention in video. Extensive experiments on benchmarks demonstrate the superiority and generality of our module. Particularly, the proposed ILA achieves a top-1 accuracy of 88.7% on Kinetics-400 with much fewer FLOPs compared with Swin-L and ViViT-H. Code is released at https://github.com/Francis-Rings/ILA .

Decomposed On-Policy Distillation for Vision-Language Reasoning: Steering Gradients for Visual GroundingHee Suk Yoon, Eunseop Yoon, Jaehyun Jang et al.
While on-policy distillation offers dense supervision for training small reasoning models, its optimization dynamics in the multimodal domain remain under-explored. In this work, we challenge the standard monolithic view of Vision-Language Model (VLM) distillation by mathematically decomposing the loss into two distinct components: the language prior and visual grounding. Our analysis uncovers that gradient vectors for these components are nearly orthogonal, indicating that the objective of aligning with the teacher's language distribution is geometrically independent from the objective of matching its visual perception. Consequently, standard optimization passively follows a suboptimal compromise trajectory that implicitly balances the two objectives. Hypothesizing that visual grounding constitutes the primary bottleneck for vision-language reasoning, we introduce Visual Gradient Steering (VGS), a method that dynamically reorients the update vector to prioritize the visual subspace. Experimental results on multiple distillation settings and complex multimodal benchmarks demonstrate that VGS significantly outperforms the standard monolithic formulation of on-policy distillation, achieving superior grounding with minimal training overhead.

ChartReader: A Unified Framework for Chart Derendering and Comprehension without Heuristic RulesZhi-Qi Cheng, Qi Dai, Siyao Li et al. · cmu, uw
Charts are a powerful tool for visually conveying complex data, but their comprehension poses a challenge due to the diverse chart types and intricate components. Existing chart comprehension methods suffer from either heuristic rules or an over-reliance on OCR systems, resulting in suboptimal performance. To address these issues, we present ChartReader, a unified framework that seamlessly integrates chart derendering and comprehension tasks. Our approach includes a transformer-based chart component detection module and an extended pre-trained vision-language model for chart-to-X tasks. By learning the rules of charts automatically from annotated datasets, our approach eliminates the need for manual rule-making, reducing effort and enhancing accuracy.~We also introduce a data variable replacement technique and extend the input and position embeddings of the pre-trained model for cross-task training. We evaluate ChartReader on Chart-to-Table, ChartQA, and Chart-to-Text tasks, demonstrating its superiority over existing methods. Our proposed framework can significantly reduce the manual effort involved in chart analysis, providing a step towards a universal chart understanding model. Moreover, our approach offers opportunities for plug-and-play integration with mainstream LLMs such as T5 and TaPas, extending their capability to chart comprehension tasks. A Survey on Video Diffusion ModelsZhen Xing, Qijun Feng, Haoran Chen et al.
The recent wave of AI-generated content (AIGC) has witnessed substantial success in computer vision, with the diffusion model playing a crucial role in this achievement. Due to their impressive generative capabilities, diffusion models are gradually superseding methods based on GANs and auto-regressive Transformers, demonstrating exceptional performance not only in image generation and editing, but also in the realm of video-related research. However, existing surveys mainly focus on diffusion models in the context of image generation, with few up-to-date reviews on their application in the video domain. To address this gap, this paper presents a comprehensive review of video diffusion models in the AIGC era. Specifically, we begin with a concise introduction to the fundamentals and evolution of diffusion models. Subsequently, we present an overview of research on diffusion models in the video domain, categorizing the work into three key areas: video generation, video editing, and other video understanding tasks. We conduct a thorough review of the literature in these three key areas, including further categorization and practical contributions in the field. Finally, we discuss the challenges faced by research in this domain and outline potential future developmental trends. Rethinking Spatial Invariance of Convolutional Networks for Object CountingZhi-Qi Cheng, Qi Dai, Hong Li et al. · cmu, uw
Previous work generally believes that improving the spatial invariance of convolutional networks is the key to object counting. However, after verifying several mainstream counting networks, we surprisingly found too strict pixel-level spatial invariance would cause overfit noise in the density map generation. In this paper, we try to use locally connected Gaussian kernels to replace the original convolution filter to estimate the spatial position in the density map. The purpose of this is to allow the feature extraction process to potentially stimulate the density map generation process to overcome the annotation noise. Inspired by previous work, we propose a low-rank approximation accompanied with translation invariance to favorably implement the approximation of massive Gaussian convolution. Our work points a new direction for follow-up research, which should investigate how to properly relax the overly strict pixel-level spatial invariance for object counting. We evaluate our methods on 4 mainstream object counting networks (i.e., MCNN, CSRNet, SANet, and ResNet-50). Extensive experiments were conducted on 7 popular benchmarks for 3 applications (i.e., crowd, vehicle, and plant counting). Experimental results show that our methods significantly outperform other state-of-the-art methods and achieve promising learning of the spatial position of objects.

MotionEditor: Editing Video Motion via Content-Aware DiffusionShuyuan Tu, Qi Dai, Zhi-Qi Cheng et al. · cmu, uw
Existing diffusion-based video editing models have made gorgeous advances for editing attributes of a source video over time but struggle to manipulate the motion information while preserving the original protagonist's appearance and background. To address this, we propose MotionEditor, a diffusion model for video motion editing. MotionEditor incorporates a novel content-aware motion adapter into ControlNet to capture temporal motion correspondence. While ControlNet enables direct generation based on skeleton poses, it encounters challenges when modifying the source motion in the inverted noise due to contradictory signals between the noise (source) and the condition (reference). Our adapter complements ControlNet by involving source content to transfer adapted control signals seamlessly. Further, we build up a two-branch architecture (a reconstruction branch and an editing branch) with a high-fidelity attention injection mechanism facilitating branch interaction. This mechanism enables the editing branch to query the key and value from the reconstruction branch in a decoupled manner, making the editing branch retain the original background and protagonist appearance. We also propose a skeleton alignment algorithm to address the discrepancies in pose size and position. Experiments demonstrate the promising motion editing ability of MotionEditor, both qualitatively and quantitatively.

ResFormer: Scaling ViTs with Multi-Resolution TrainingRui Tian, Zuxuan Wu, Qi Dai et al.
Vision Transformers (ViTs) have achieved overwhelming success, yet they suffer from vulnerable resolution scalability, i.e., the performance drops drastically when presented with input resolutions that are unseen during training. We introduce, ResFormer, a framework that is built upon the seminal idea of multi-resolution training for improved performance on a wide spectrum of, mostly unseen, testing resolutions. In particular, ResFormer operates on replicated images of different resolutions and enforces a scale consistency loss to engage interactive information across different scales. More importantly, to alternate among varying resolutions effectively, especially novel ones in testing, we propose a global-local positional embedding strategy that changes smoothly conditioned on input sizes. We conduct extensive experiments for image classification on ImageNet. The results provide strong quantitative evidence that ResFormer has promising scaling abilities towards a wide range of resolutions. For instance, ResFormer-B-MR achieves a Top-1 accuracy of 75.86% and 81.72% when evaluated on relatively low and high resolutions respectively (i.e., 96 and 640), which are 48% and 7.49% better than DeiT-B. We also demonstrate, moreover, ResFormer is flexible and can be easily extended to semantic segmentation, object detection and video action recognition. All in Tokens: Unifying Output Space of Visual Tasks via Soft TokenJia Ning, Chen Li, Zheng Zhang et al.
Unlike language tasks, where the output space is usually limited to a set of tokens, the output space of visual tasks is more complicated, making it difficult to build a unified visual model for various visual tasks. In this paper, we seek to unify the output space of visual tasks, so that we can also build a unified model for visual tasks. To this end, we demonstrate a single unified model that simultaneously handles two typical visual tasks of instance segmentation and depth estimation, which have discrete/fixed-length and continuous/varied-length outputs, respectively. We propose several new techniques that take into account the particularity of visual tasks: 1) Soft token. We employ soft token to represent the task output. Unlike hard tokens in the common VQ-VAE which are assigned one-hot to discrete codebooks/vocabularies, the soft token is assigned softly to the codebook embeddings. Soft token can improve the accuracy of both the next token inference and decoding of the task output; 2) Mask augmentation. Many visual tasks have corruption, undefined or invalid values in label annotations, i.e., occluded area of depth maps. We show that a mask augmentation technique can greatly benefit these tasks. With these new techniques and other designs, we show that the proposed general-purpose task-solver can perform both instance segmentation and depth estimation well. Particularly, we achieve 0.279 RMSE on the specific task of NYUv2 depth estimation, setting a new record on this benchmark. GSRFormer: Grounded Situation Recognition Transformer with Alternate Semantic Attention RefinementZhi-Qi Cheng, Qi Dai, Siyao Li et al. · cmu, uw
Grounded Situation Recognition (GSR) aims to generate structured semantic summaries of images for "human-like" event understanding. Specifically, GSR task not only detects the salient activity verb (e.g. buying), but also predicts all corresponding semantic roles (e.g. agent and goods). Inspired by object detection and image captioning tasks, existing methods typically employ a two-stage framework: 1) detect the activity verb, and then 2) predict semantic roles based on the detected verb. Obviously, this illogical framework constitutes a huge obstacle to semantic understanding. First, pre-detecting verbs solely without semantic roles inevitably fails to distinguish many similar daily activities (e.g., offering and giving, buying and selling). Second, predicting semantic roles in a closed auto-regressive manner can hardly exploit the semantic relations among the verb and roles. To this end, in this paper we propose a novel two-stage framework that focuses on utilizing such bidirectional relations within verbs and roles. In the first stage, instead of pre-detecting the verb, we postpone the detection step and assume a pseudo label, where an intermediate representation for each corresponding semantic role is learned from images. In the second stage, we exploit transformer layers to unearth the potential semantic relations within both verbs and semantic roles. With the help of a set of support images, an alternate learning scheme is designed to simultaneously optimize the results: update the verb using nouns corresponding to the image, and update nouns using verbs from support images. Extensive experimental results on challenging SWiG benchmarks show that our renovated framework outperforms other state-of-the-art methods under various metrics.

SVFormer: Semi-supervised Video Transformer for Action RecognitionZhen Xing, Qi Dai, Han Hu et al.
Semi-supervised action recognition is a challenging but critical task due to the high cost of video annotations. Existing approaches mainly use convolutional neural networks, yet current revolutionary vision transformer models have been less explored. In this paper, we investigate the use of transformer models under the SSL setting for action recognition. To this end, we introduce SVFormer, which adopts a steady pseudo-labeling framework (ie, EMA-Teacher) to cope with unlabeled video samples. While a wide range of data augmentations have been shown effective for semi-supervised image classification, they generally produce limited results for video recognition. We therefore introduce a novel augmentation strategy, Tube TokenMix, tailored for video data where video clips are mixed via a mask with consistent masked tokens over the temporal axis. In addition, we propose a temporal warping augmentation to cover the complex temporal variation in videos, which stretches selected frames to various temporal durations in the clip. Extensive experiments on three datasets Kinetics-400, UCF-101, and HMDB-51 verify the advantage of SVFormer. In particular, SVFormer outperforms the state-of-the-art by 31.5% with fewer training epochs under the 1% labeling rate of Kinetics-400. Our method can hopefully serve as a strong benchmark and encourage future search on semi-supervised action recognition with Transformer networks.

SimDA: Simple Diffusion Adapter for Efficient Video GenerationZhen Xing, Qi Dai, Han Hu et al.
The recent wave of AI-generated content has witnessed the great development and success of Text-to-Image (T2I) technologies. By contrast, Text-to-Video (T2V) still falls short of expectations though attracting increasing interests. Existing works either train from scratch or adapt large T2I model to videos, both of which are computation and resource expensive. In this work, we propose a Simple Diffusion Adapter (SimDA) that fine-tunes only 24M out of 1.1B parameters of a strong T2I model, adapting it to video generation in a parameter-efficient way. In particular, we turn the T2I model for T2V by designing light-weight spatial and temporal adapters for transfer learning. Besides, we change the original spatial attention to the proposed Latent-Shift Attention (LSA) for temporal consistency. With similar model architecture, we further train a video super-resolution model to generate high-definition (1024x1024) videos. In addition to T2V generation in the wild, SimDA could also be utilized in one-shot video editing with only 2 minutes tuning. Doing so, our method could minimize the training effort with extremely few tunable parameters for model adaptation.

BizGenEval: A Systematic Benchmark for Commercial Visual Content GenerationYan Li, Zezi Zeng, Ziwei Zhou et al.
Recent advances in image generation models have expanded their applications beyond aesthetic imagery toward practical visual content creation. However, existing benchmarks mainly focus on natural image synthesis and fail to systematically evaluate models under the structured and multi-constraint requirements of real-world commercial design tasks. In this work, we introduce BizGenEval, a systematic benchmark for commercial visual content generation. The benchmark spans five representative document types: slides, charts, webpages, posters, and scientific figures, and evaluates four key capability dimensions: text rendering, layout control, attribute binding, and knowledge-based reasoning, forming 20 diverse evaluation tasks. BizGenEval contains 400 carefully curated prompts and 8000 human-verified checklist questions to rigorously assess whether generated images satisfy complex visual and semantic constraints. We conduct large-scale benchmarking on 26 popular image generation systems, including state-of-the-art commercial APIs and leading open-source models. The results reveal substantial capability gaps between current generative models and the requirements of professional visual content creation. We hope BizGenEval serves as a standardized benchmark for real-world commercial visual content generation.

Rotatable Antenna Meets Multiple Access: NOMA or OMA?Qi Dai, Beixiong Zheng, Yanhua Tan et al.
Rotatable antenna (RA) technology has emerged as a promising solution to enhance spectrum efficiency by exploiting additional spatial degrees of freedom (DoFs) in multiple access networks. However, the relative performance superiority among different multiple access schemes remains largely unclear due to the unique capability of RA in reconfiguring the directional gain pattern. In this letter, we conduct a theoretical comparison between non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) and orthogonal multiple access (OMA) schemes in RA-assisted communication systems in terms of transmit power minimization, subject to constraints on antenna rotational range and users' target rates. To address the associated non-convex optimization problem, a particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm is employed to optimize the rotational angle. Simulation results demonstrate that RA-assisted schemes significantly reduce transmit power compared to fixed-antenna benchmarks. Furthermore, RA-assisted NOMA may perform worse than time-division multiple access (TDMA) for symmetric user deployments, while it exhibits superior robustness and energy efficiency in asymmetric scenarios.

HiViT: Hierarchical Vision Transformer Meets Masked Image ModelingXiaosong Zhang, Yunjie Tian, Wei Huang et al.
Recently, masked image modeling (MIM) has offered a new methodology of self-supervised pre-training of vision transformers. A key idea of efficient implementation is to discard the masked image patches (or tokens) throughout the target network (encoder), which requires the encoder to be a plain vision transformer (e.g., ViT), albeit hierarchical vision transformers (e.g., Swin Transformer) have potentially better properties in formulating vision inputs. In this paper, we offer a new design of hierarchical vision transformers named HiViT (short for Hierarchical ViT) that enjoys both high efficiency and good performance in MIM. The key is to remove the unnecessary "local inter-unit operations", deriving structurally simple hierarchical vision transformers in which mask-units can be serialized like plain vision transformers. For this purpose, we start with Swin Transformer and (i) set the masking unit size to be the token size in the main stage of Swin Transformer, (ii) switch off inter-unit self-attentions before the main stage, and (iii) eliminate all operations after the main stage. Empirical studies demonstrate the advantageous performance of HiViT in terms of fully-supervised, self-supervised, and transfer learning. In particular, in running MAE on ImageNet-1K, HiViT-B reports a +0.6% accuracy gain over ViT-B and a 1.9$\times$ speed-up over Swin-B, and the performance gain generalizes to downstream tasks of detection and segmentation. On Data Scaling in Masked Image ModelingZhenda Xie, Zheng Zhang, Yue Cao et al.
An important goal of self-supervised learning is to enable model pre-training to benefit from almost unlimited data. However, one method that has recently become popular, namely masked image modeling (MIM), is suspected to be unable to benefit from larger data. In this work, we break this misconception through extensive experiments, with data scales ranging from 10\% of ImageNet-1K to full ImageNet-22K, model sizes ranging from 49 million to 1 billion, and training lengths ranging from 125K iterations to 500K iterations. Our study reveals that: (i) Masked image modeling is also demanding on larger data. We observed that very large models got over-fitted with relatively small data; (ii) The length of training matters. Large models trained with masked image modeling can benefit from more data with longer training; (iii) The validation loss in pre-training is a good indicator to measure how well the model performs for fine-tuning on multiple tasks. This observation allows us to pre-evaluate pre-trained models in advance without having to make costly trial-and-error assessments of downstream tasks. We hope that our findings will advance the understanding of masked image modeling in terms of scaling ability.

VIDiff: Translating Videos via Multi-Modal Instructions with Diffusion ModelsZhen Xing, Qi Dai, Zihao Zhang et al.
Diffusion models have achieved significant success in image and video generation. This motivates a growing interest in video editing tasks, where videos are edited according to provided text descriptions. However, most existing approaches only focus on video editing for short clips and rely on time-consuming tuning or inference. We are the first to propose Video Instruction Diffusion (VIDiff), a unified foundation model designed for a wide range of video tasks. These tasks encompass both understanding tasks (such as language-guided video object segmentation) and generative tasks (video editing and enhancement). Our model can edit and translate the desired results within seconds based on user instructions. Moreover, we design an iterative auto-regressive method to ensure consistency in editing and enhancing long videos. We provide convincing generative results for diverse input videos and written instructions, both qualitatively and quantitatively. Parallel Sentence-Level Explanation Generation for Real-World Low-Resource ScenariosYan Liu, Xiaokang Chen, Qi Dai
In order to reveal the rationale behind model predictions, many works have exploited providing explanations in various forms. Recently, to further guarantee readability, more and more works turn to generate sentence-level human language explanations. However, current works pursuing sentence-level explanations rely heavily on annotated training data, which limits the development of interpretability to only a few tasks. As far as we know, this paper is the first to explore this problem smoothly from weak-supervised learning to unsupervised learning. Besides, we also notice the high latency of autoregressive sentence-level explanation generation, which leads to asynchronous interpretability after prediction. Therefore, we propose a non-autoregressive interpretable model to facilitate parallel explanation generation and simultaneous prediction. Through extensive experiments on Natural Language Inference task and Spouse Prediction task, we find that users are able to train classifiers with comparable performance $10-15\times$ faster with parallel explanation generation using only a few or no annotated training data.

ART$\boldsymbol{\cdot}$V: Auto-Regressive Text-to-Video Generation with Diffusion ModelsWenming Weng, Ruoyu Feng, Yanhui Wang et al.
We present ART$\boldsymbol{\cdot}$V, an efficient framework for auto-regressive video generation with diffusion models. Unlike existing methods that generate entire videos in one-shot, ART$\boldsymbol{\cdot}$V generates a single frame at a time, conditioned on the previous ones. The framework offers three distinct advantages. First, it only learns simple continual motions between adjacent frames, therefore avoiding modeling complex long-range motions that require huge training data. Second, it preserves the high-fidelity generation ability of the pre-trained image diffusion models by making only minimal network modifications. Third, it can generate arbitrarily long videos conditioned on a variety of prompts such as text, image or their combinations, making it highly versatile and flexible. To combat the common drifting issue in AR models, we propose masked diffusion model which implicitly learns which information can be drawn from reference images rather than network predictions, in order to reduce the risk of generating inconsistent appearances that cause drifting. Moreover, we further enhance generation coherence by conditioning it on the initial frame, which typically contains minimal noise. This is particularly useful for long video generation. When trained for only two weeks on four GPUs, ART$\boldsymbol{\cdot}$V already can generate videos with natural motions, rich details and a high level of aesthetic quality. Besides, it enables various appealing applications, e.g., composing a long video from multiple text prompts.

Deeper Insights into the Robustness of ViTs towards Common CorruptionsRui Tian, Zuxuan Wu, Qi Dai et al.
With Vision Transformers (ViTs) making great advances in a variety of computer vision tasks, recent literature have proposed various variants of vanilla ViTs to achieve better efficiency and efficacy. However, it remains unclear how their unique architecture impact robustness towards common corruptions. In this paper, we make the first attempt to probe into the robustness gap among ViT variants and explore underlying designs that are essential for robustness. Through an extensive and rigorous benchmarking, we demonstrate that simple architecture designs such as overlapping patch embedding and convolutional feed-forward network (FFN) can promote the robustness of ViTs. Moreover, since training ViTs relies heavily on data augmentation, whether previous CNN-based augmentation strategies that are targeted at robustness purposes can still be useful is worth investigating. We explore different data augmentation on ViTs and verify that adversarial noise training is powerful while fourier-domain augmentation is inferior. Based on these findings, we introduce a novel conditional method of generating dynamic augmentation parameters conditioned on input images, offering state-of-the-art robustness towards common corruptions.

Language-Conditioned World Modeling for Visual NavigationYifei Dong, Fengyi Wu, Yilong Dai et al.
We study language-conditioned visual navigation (LCVN), in which an embodied agent is asked to follow a natural language instruction based only on an initial egocentric observation. Without access to goal images, the agent must rely on language to shape its perception and continuous control, making the grounding problem particularly challenging. We formulate this problem as open-loop trajectory prediction conditioned on linguistic instructions and introduce the LCVN Dataset, a benchmark of 39,016 trajectories and 117,048 human-verified instructions that supports reproducible research across a range of environments and instruction styles. Using this dataset, we develop LCVN frameworks that link language grounding, future-state prediction, and action generation through two complementary model families. The first family combines LCVN-WM, a diffusion-based world model, with LCVN-AC, an actor-critic agent trained in the latent space of the world model. The second family, LCVN-Uni, adopts an autoregressive multimodal architecture that predicts both actions and future observations. Experiments show that these families offer different advantages: the former provides more temporally coherent rollouts, whereas the latter generalizes better to unseen environments. Taken together, these observations point to the value of jointly studying language grounding, imagination, and policy learning in a unified task setting, and LCVN provides a concrete basis for further investigation of language-conditioned world models. Covering Human Action Space for Computer Use: Data Synthesis and BenchmarkMiaosen Zhang, Xiaohan Zhao, Zhihong Tan et al.
Computer-use agents (CUAs) automate on-screen work, as illustrated by GPT-5.4 and Claude. Yet their reliability on complex, low-frequency interactions is still poor, limiting user trust. Our analysis of failure cases from advanced models suggests a long-tail pattern in GUI operations, where a relatively small fraction of complex and diverse interactions accounts for a disproportionate share of task failures. We hypothesize that this issue largely stems from the scarcity of data for complex interactions. To address this problem, we propose a new benchmark CUActSpot for evaluating models' capabilities on complex interactions across five modalities: GUI, text, table, canvas, and natural image, as well as a variety of actions (click, drag, draw, etc.), covering a broader range of interaction types than prior click-centric benchmarks that focus mainly on GUI widgets. We also design a renderer-based data-synthesis pipeline: scenes are automatically generated for each modality, screenshots and element coordinates are recorded, and an LLM produces matching instructions and action traces. After training on this corpus, our Phi-Ground-Any-4B outperforms open-source models with fewer than 32B parameters. Rotatable Antenna Enabled Covert CommunicationQi Dai, Beixiong Zheng, Yanhua Tan et al.
Unlike conventional fixed-antenna architectures, rotatable antenna (RA) has shown great potential in enhancing wireless communication performance by exploiting additional spatial degrees of freedom (DoFs) in a cost-effective manner. In this letter, we propose a novel RA-enabled covert communication system, where an RA array-based transmitter (Alice) sends covert information to a legitimate user (Bob) in the presence of multiple wardens (Willies). To maximize the covert rate, we optimize the transmit beamforming vector and the rotational angles of individual RAs, subject to the constraints on covertness, transmit power, and antenna rotational range. To address the non-convex formulated problem, we decompose it into two subproblems and propose an efficient alternating optimization (AO) algorithm to solve the two subproblems iteratively, where the second-order cone programming (SOCP) method and successive convex approximation (SCA) approach are applied separately. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed RA-enabled covert communication system can provide significantly superior covertness performance to other benchmark schemes.

Towards On-Policy SFT: Distribution Discriminant Theory and its Applications in LLM TrainingMiaosen Zhang, Yishan Liu, Shuxia Lin et al.
Supervised fine-tuning (SFT) is computationally efficient but often yields inferior generalization compared to reinforcement learning (RL). This gap is primarily driven by RL's use of on-policy data. We propose a framework to bridge this chasm by enabling On-Policy SFT. We first present \textbf{\textit{Distribution Discriminant Theory (DDT)}}, which explains and quantifies the alignment between data and the model-induced distribution. Leveraging DDT, we introduce two complementary techniques: (i) \textbf{\textit{In-Distribution Finetuning (IDFT)}}, a loss-level method to enhance generalization ability of SFT, and (ii) \textbf{\textit{Hinted Decoding}}, a data-level technique that can re-align the training corpus to the model's distribution. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our framework achieves generalization performance on par with prominent offline RL algorithms, including DPO and SimPO, while maintaining the efficiency of an SFT pipeline. From Raw Experience to Skill Consumption: A Systematic Study of Model-Generated Agent SkillsZisu Huang, Jingwen Xu, Yifan Yang et al.
Language agents increasingly improve by reusing \emph{skills} -- structured procedural artifacts distilled from past experience. In particular, \emph{domain-level} and \emph{model-generated} skills are especially promising. They offer fast adaptation within a domain by encoding domain-specific recurring procedures, and they scale beyond labor-intensive hand-crafting. However, while extraction methods continue to proliferate, understanding remains limited, with no comprehensive study spanning the full skill lifecycle -- \textbf{experience generation}, \textbf{skill extraction}, and \textbf{skill consumption} -- to ask whether such skills actually work, when they work, and what makes them succeed or fail. To close this gap, we build a utility-grounded evaluation framework that provides systematic experimental results across extractors and target agents, covering five diverse agentic task domains. We find that model-generated skills are beneficial on average but exhibit non-trivial negative transfer, and that neither extractors nor targets behave uniformly. A model can be a strong extractor yet a weak consumer, or vice versa, with skill utility independent of model scale or baseline task strength. To explain these patterns, we then dissect each lifecycle stage in depth, analyzing how experience composition shapes skill quality, what properties characterize useful skills, and how the same skill transfers across different consumers. Finally, we translate these findings into a concrete \emph{meta-skill} that guides skill extraction toward the features tied to actual utility, which consistently improves skill quality across domains and substantially reduces negative transfer.

RE-TRAC: REcursive TRAjectory Compression for Deep Search AgentsJialiang Zhu, Gongrui Zhang, Xiaolong Ma et al.
LLM-based deep research agents are largely built on the ReAct framework. This linear design makes it difficult to revisit earlier states, branch into alternative search directions, or maintain global awareness under long contexts, often leading to local optima, redundant exploration, and inefficient search. We propose Re-TRAC, an agentic framework that performs cross-trajectory exploration by generating a structured state representation after each trajectory to summarize evidence, uncertainties, failures, and future plans, and conditioning subsequent trajectories on this state representation. This enables iterative reflection and globally informed planning, reframing research as a progressive process. Empirical results show that Re-TRAC consistently outperforms ReAct by 15-20% on BrowseComp with frontier LLMs. For smaller models, we introduce Re-TRAC-aware supervised fine-tuning, achieving state-of-the-art performance at comparable scales. Notably, Re-TRAC shows a monotonic reduction in tool calls and token usage across rounds, indicating progressively targeted exploration driven by cross-trajectory reflection rather than redundant search.

MM-WebAgent: A Hierarchical Multimodal Web Agent for Webpage GenerationYan Li, Zezi Zeng, Yifan Yang et al.
The rapid progress of Artificial Intelligence Generated Content (AIGC) tools enables images, videos, and visualizations to be created on demand for webpage design, offering a flexible and increasingly adopted paradigm for modern UI/UX. However, directly integrating such tools into automated webpage generation often leads to style inconsistency and poor global coherence, as elements are generated in isolation. We propose MM-WebAgent, a hierarchical agentic framework for multimodal webpage generation that coordinates AIGC-based element generation through hierarchical planning and iterative self-reflection. MM-WebAgent jointly optimizes global layout, local multimodal content, and their integration, producing coherent and visually consistent webpages. We further introduce a benchmark for multimodal webpage generation and a multi-level evaluation protocol for systematic assessment. SkillOpt: Executive Strategy for Self-Evolving Agent SkillsYifan Yang, Ziyang Gong, Weiquan Huang et al.
Agent skills today are hand-crafted, generated one-shot, or evolved through loosely controlled self-revision, none of which behaves like a deep-learning optimizer for the skill, and none of which reliably improves over its starting point under feedback. We argue the skill should instead be trained as the external state of a frozen agent, with the same discipline that makes weight-space optimization reproducible. SkillOpt is, to our knowledge, the first systematic controllable text-space optimizer for agent skills: a separate optimizer model turns scored rollouts into bounded add/delete/replace edits on a single skill document, and an edit is accepted only when it strictly improves a held-out validation score. A textual learning-rate budget, rejected-edit buffer, and epoch-wise slow/meta update make skill training stable while adding zero inference-time model calls at deployment. Across six benchmarks, seven target models, and three execution harnesses (direct chat, Codex, Claude Code), SkillOpt is best or tied on all 52 evaluated (model, benchmark, harness) cells and beats every per-cell competitor among human, one-shot LLM, Trace2Skill, TextGrad, GEPA, and EvoSkill skills. On GPT-5.5 it lifts the average no-skill accuracy by +23.5 points in direct chat, by +24.8 inside the Codex agentic loop, and by +19.1 inside Claude Code. Transfer experiments further show that optimized skill artifacts retain value when moved across model scales, between Codex and Claude Code execution environments, and to a nearby math benchmark without further optimization.

DynaVid: Learning to Generate Highly Dynamic Videos using Synthetic Motion DataWonjoon Jin, Jiyun Won, Janghyeok Han et al.
Despite recent progress, video diffusion models still struggle to synthesize realistic videos involving highly dynamic motions or requiring fine-grained motion controllability. A central limitation lies in the scarcity of such examples in commonly used training datasets. To address this, we introduce DynaVid, a video synthesis framework that leverages synthetic motion data in training, which is represented as optical flow and rendered using computer graphics pipelines. This approach offers two key advantages. First, synthetic motion offers diverse motion patterns and precise control signals that are difficult to obtain from real data. Second, unlike rendered videos with artificial appearances, rendered optical flow encodes only motion and is decoupled from appearance, thereby preventing models from reproducing the unnatural look of synthetic videos. Building on this idea, DynaVid adopts a two-stage generation framework: a motion generator first synthesizes motion, and then a motion-guided video generator produces video frames conditioned on that motion. This decoupled formulation enables the model to learn dynamic motion patterns from synthetic data while preserving visual realism from real-world videos. We validate our framework on two challenging scenarios, vigorous human motion generation and extreme camera motion control, where existing datasets are particularly limited. Extensive experiments demonstrate that DynaVid improves the realism and controllability in dynamic motion generation and camera motion control.

PDCR: Perception-Decomposed Confidence Reward for Vision-Language ReasoningHee Suk Yoon, Eunseop Yoon, Ji Woo Hong et al.
Reinforcement Learning with Verifiable Rewards (RLVR) traditionally relies on a sparse, outcome-based signal. Recent work shows that providing a fine-grained, model-intrinsic signal (rewarding the confidence growth in the ground-truth answer) effectively improves language reasoning training by providing step-level guidance without costly external models. While effective for unimodal text, we find that naively applying this global reward to vision-language (V-L) reasoning is a suboptimal strategy, as the task is a heterogeneous mix of sparse visual perception and dense textual reasoning. This global normalization creates mixture-induced signal degradation, where the training signal for visual steps is statistically distorted by the predominant textual steps. We propose Perception-Decomposed Confidence Reward (PDCR), a framework that solves this by aligning the reward structure with the task's heterogeneous nature. PDCR first performs an unsupervised skill decomposition, introducing a model-internal Visual Dependence Score to quantify visual reliance and applying a clustering algorithm to separate perception and reasoning steps. Based on this, PDCR computes a decomposed advantage by normalizing confidence gains within each skill cluster. This intra-cluster normalization provides a stable, correctly-scaled signal for both perception and reasoning. We demonstrate that PDCR outperforms the naive, global-reward formulation and sparse-reward baselines on key V-L reasoning benchmarks.

MageBench: Bridging Large Multimodal Models to AgentsMiaosen Zhang, Qi Dai, Yifan Yang et al.
LMMs have shown impressive visual understanding capabilities, with the potential to be applied in agents, which demand strong reasoning and planning abilities. Nevertheless, existing benchmarks mostly assess their reasoning abilities in language part, where the chain-of-thought is entirely composed of text.We consider the scenario where visual signals are continuously updated and required along the decision making process. Such vision-in-the-chain reasoning paradigm is more aligned with the needs of multimodal agents, while being rarely evaluated. In this paper, we introduce MageBench, a reasoning capability oriented multimodal agent benchmark that, while having light-weight environments, poses significant reasoning challenges and holds substantial practical value. This benchmark currently includes three types of environments: WebUI, Sokoban, and Football, comprising a total of 483 different scenarios. It thoroughly validates the agent's knowledge and engineering capabilities, visual intelligence, and interaction skills. The results show that only a few product-level models are better than random acting, and all of them are far inferior to human-level. More specifically, we found current models severely lack the ability to modify their planning based on visual feedback, as well as visual imagination, interleaved image-text long context handling, and other abilities. We hope that our work will provide optimization directions for LMM from the perspective of being an agent. We release our code and data at https://github.com/microsoft/MageBench.

REDUCIO! Generating 1K Video within 16 Seconds using Extremely Compressed Motion LatentsRui Tian, Qi Dai, Jianmin Bao et al.
Commercial video generation models have exhibited realistic, high-fidelity results but are still restricted to limited access. One crucial obstacle for large-scale applications is the expensive training and inference cost. In this paper, we argue that videos contain significantly more redundant information than images, allowing them to be encoded with very few motion latents. Towards this goal, we design an image-conditioned VAE that projects videos into extremely compressed latent space and decode them based on content images. This magic Reducio charm enables 64x reduction of latents compared to a common 2D VAE, without sacrificing the quality. Building upon Reducio-VAE, we can train diffusion models for high-resolution video generation efficiently. Specifically, we adopt a two-stage generation paradigm, first generating a condition image via text-to-image generation, followed by text-image-to-video generation with the proposed Reducio-DiT. Extensive experiments show that our model achieves strong performance in evaluation. More importantly, our method significantly boosts the training and inference efficiency of video LDMs. Reducio-DiT is trained in just 3.2K A100 GPU hours in total and can generate a 16-frame 1024$\times$1024 video clip within 15.5 seconds on a single A100 GPU. High-Fidelity Text-to-Image Generation from Pre-Trained Vision-Language Models via Distribution-Conditioned Diffusion DecodingJi Woo Hong, Hee Suk Yoon, Gwanhyeong Koo et al.
Recent large-scale vision-language models (VLMs) have shown remarkable text-to-image generation capabilities, yet their visual fidelity remains constrained by the discrete image tokenization, which poses a major challenge. Although several studies have explored continuous representation modeling to enhance visual quality, adapting pre-trained VLM models to such representations requires large-scale data and training costs comparable to the original pre-training. To circumvent this limitation, we propose a diffusion-based decoding framework that enhances image fidelity by training only a diffusion decoder on the output image-token logits of pre-trained VLMs, thereby preserving the original model intact. At its core, Logit-to-Code Distributional Mapping converts the VLM's image-token logits into continuous, distribution-weighted code vectors with uncertainty features, providing an effective conditioning signal for diffusion decoding. A lightweight Logit Calibration aligns training-time proxy logits from the VQ-VAE encoder with VLM-generated logits, mitigating the train-inference gap. Conditioned on these representations, the Distribution-Conditioned Diffusion Decoder generates high-fidelity images. Achieved solely through short training on ImageNet-1K, our method consistently improves visual fidelity for both VQ-VAE reconstructions and text-to-image generations from VLM-predicted tokens.

Semantics Lead the Way: Harmonizing Semantic and Texture Modeling with Asynchronous Latent DiffusionYueming Pan, Ruoyu Feng, Qi Dai et al.
Latent Diffusion Models (LDMs) inherently follow a coarse-to-fine generation process, where high-level semantic structure is generated slightly earlier than fine-grained texture. This indicates the preceding semantics potentially benefit texture generation by providing a semantic anchor. Recent advances have integrated semantic priors from pretrained visual encoders to further enhance LDMs, yet they still denoise semantic and VAE-encoded texture synchronously, neglecting such ordering. Observing these, we propose Semantic-First Diffusion (SFD), a latent diffusion paradigm that explicitly prioritizes semantic formation. SFD first constructs composite latents by combining a compact semantic latent, which is extracted from a pretrained visual encoder via a dedicated Semantic VAE, with the texture latent. The core of SFD is to denoise the semantic and texture latents asynchronously using separate noise schedules: semantics precede textures by a temporal offset, providing clearer high-level guidance for texture refinement and enabling natural coarse-to-fine generation. On ImageNet 256x256 with guidance, SFD achieves FID 1.06 (LightningDiT-XL) and FID 1.04 (1.0B LightningDiT-XXL), while achieving up to 100x faster convergence than the original DiT. SFD also improves existing methods like ReDi and VA-VAE, demonstrating the effectiveness of asynchronous, semantics-led modeling. Project page and code: https://yuemingpan.github.io/SFD.github.io/.

ArcFlow: Unleashing 2-Step Text-to-Image Generation via High-Precision Non-Linear Flow DistillationZihan Yang, Shuyuan Tu, Licheng Zhang et al.
Diffusion models have achieved remarkable generation quality, but they suffer from significant inference cost due to their reliance on multiple sequential denoising steps, motivating recent efforts to distill this inference process into a few-step regime. However, existing distillation methods typically approximate the teacher trajectory by using linear shortcuts, which makes it difficult to match its constantly changing tangent directions as velocities evolve across timesteps, thereby leading to quality degradation. To address this limitation, we propose ArcFlow, a few-step distillation framework that explicitly employs non-linear flow trajectories to approximate pre-trained teacher trajectories. Concretely, ArcFlow parameterizes the velocity field underlying the inference trajectory as a mixture of continuous momentum processes. This enables ArcFlow to capture velocity evolution and extrapolate coherent velocities to form a continuous non-linear trajectory within each denoising step. Importantly, this parameterization admits an analytical integration of this non-linear trajectory, which circumvents numerical discretization errors and results in high-precision approximation of the teacher trajectory. To train this parameterization into a few-step generator, we implement ArcFlow via trajectory distillation on pre-trained teacher models using lightweight adapters. This strategy ensures fast, stable convergence while preserving generative diversity and quality. Built on large-scale models (Qwen-Image-20B and FLUX.1-dev), ArcFlow only fine-tunes on less than 5% of original parameters and achieves a 40x speedup with 2 NFEs over the original multi-step teachers without significant quality degradation. Experiments on benchmarks show the effectiveness of ArcFlow both qualitatively and quantitatively.

FlashMotion: Few-Step Controllable Video Generation with Trajectory GuidanceQuanhao Li, Zhen Xing, Rui Wang et al.
Recent advances in trajectory-controllable video generation have achieved remarkable progress. Previous methods mainly use adapter-based architectures for precise motion control along predefined trajectories. However, all these methods rely on a multi-step denoising process, leading to substantial time redundancy and computational overhead. While existing video distillation methods successfully distill multi-step generators into few-step, directly applying these approaches to trajectory-controllable video generation results in noticeable degradation in both video quality and trajectory accuracy. To bridge this gap, we introduce FlashMotion, a novel training framework designed for few-step trajectory-controllable video generation. We first train a trajectory adapter on a multi-step video generator for precise trajectory control. Then, we distill the generator into a few-step version to accelerate video generation. Finally, we finetune the adapter using a hybrid strategy that combines diffusion and adversarial objectives, aligning it with the few-step generator to produce high-quality, trajectory-accurate videos. For evaluation, we introduce FlashBench, a benchmark for long-sequence trajectory-controllable video generation that measures both video quality and trajectory accuracy across varying numbers of foreground objects. Experiments on two adapter architectures show that FlashMotion surpasses existing video distillation methods and previous multi-step models in both visual quality and trajectory consistency.

FlashPortrait: 6x Faster Infinite Portrait Animation with Adaptive Latent PredictionShuyuan Tu, Yueming Pan, Yinming Huang et al.
Current diffusion-based acceleration methods for long-portrait animation struggle to ensure identity (ID) consistency. This paper presents FlashPortrait, an end-to-end video diffusion transformer capable of synthesizing ID-preserving, infinite-length videos while achieving up to 6x acceleration in inference speed. In particular, FlashPortrait begins by computing the identity-agnostic facial expression features with an off-the-shelf extractor. It then introduces a Normalized Facial Expression Block to align facial features with diffusion latents by normalizing them with their respective means and variances, thereby improving identity stability in facial modeling. During inference, FlashPortrait adopts a dynamic sliding-window scheme with weighted blending in overlapping areas, ensuring smooth transitions and ID consistency in long animations. In each context window, based on the latent variation rate at particular timesteps and the derivative magnitude ratio among diffusion layers, FlashPortrait utilizes higher-order latent derivatives at the current timestep to directly predict latents at future timesteps, thereby skipping several denoising steps and achieving 6x speed acceleration. Experiments on benchmarks show the effectiveness of FlashPortrait both qualitatively and quantitatively.

Building Large Language Model agents that expand their capabilities by interacting with external tools represents a new frontier in AI research and applications. In this paper, we introduce InfoAgent, a deep research agent powered by an innovative data synthesis pipeline and orchestrated web search tools. To construct challenging, hard-to-find queries,we build entity trees and apply sub-tree sampling with entity fuzzification to systematically increase question difficulty. Unlike prior work that relies heavily on commercial search tools, we develop a dedicated self-hosted search infrastructure, enhancing transparency of agent environments and facilitating further advancement of agent capacity. We evaluate the effectiveness of our data pipeline by measuring the average number of tool calls required to correctly answer a question, and also show that our agent yields better performance when equipped with our tools. Our \mbox{InfoAgent} is post-trained from Qwen3-14B using a two-stage recipe: cold-start supervised finetuning to instill long-horizon search behaviors, followed by reinforcement learning which significantly improves reasoning-driven tool use. With our methods, InfoAgent achieves 15.3\% accuracy on BrowseComp, 29.2\% on BrowseComp-ZH, and 40.4\% on Xbench-DS, outperforming prior open-source deep research agents such as WebSailor-72B and DeepDive-32B.

SimMIM: A Simple Framework for Masked Image ModelingZhenda Xie, Zheng Zhang, Yue Cao et al.
This paper presents SimMIM, a simple framework for masked image modeling. We simplify recently proposed related approaches without special designs such as block-wise masking and tokenization via discrete VAE or clustering. To study what let the masked image modeling task learn good representations, we systematically study the major components in our framework, and find that simple designs of each component have revealed very strong representation learning performance: 1) random masking of the input image with a moderately large masked patch size (e.g., 32) makes a strong pre-text task; 2) predicting raw pixels of RGB values by direct regression performs no worse than the patch classification approaches with complex designs; 3) the prediction head can be as light as a linear layer, with no worse performance than heavier ones. Using ViT-B, our approach achieves 83.8% top-1 fine-tuning accuracy on ImageNet-1K by pre-training also on this dataset, surpassing previous best approach by +0.6%. When applied on a larger model of about 650 million parameters, SwinV2-H, it achieves 87.1% top-1 accuracy on ImageNet-1K using only ImageNet-1K data. We also leverage this approach to facilitate the training of a 3B model (SwinV2-G), that by $40\times$ less data than that in previous practice, we achieve the state-of-the-art on four representative vision benchmarks. On the Connection between Local Attention and Dynamic Depth-wise ConvolutionQi Han, Zejia Fan, Qi Dai et al.
Vision Transformer (ViT) attains state-of-the-art performance in visual recognition, and the variant, Local Vision Transformer, makes further improvements. The major component in Local Vision Transformer, local attention, performs the attention separately over small local windows. We rephrase local attention as a channel-wise locally-connected layer and analyze it from two network regularization manners, sparse connectivity and weight sharing, as well as weight computation. Sparse connectivity: there is no connection across channels, and each position is connected to the positions within a small local window. Weight sharing: the connection weights for one position are shared across channels or within each group of channels. Dynamic weight: the connection weights are dynamically predicted according to each image instance. We point out that local attention resembles depth-wise convolution and its dynamic version in sparse connectivity. The main difference lies in weight sharing - depth-wise convolution shares connection weights (kernel weights) across spatial positions. We empirically observe that the models based on depth-wise convolution and the dynamic variant with lower computation complexity perform on-par with or sometimes slightly better than Swin Transformer, an instance of Local Vision Transformer, for ImageNet classification, COCO object detection and ADE semantic segmentation. These observations suggest that Local Vision Transformer takes advantage of two regularization forms and dynamic weight to increase the network capacity. We are witnessing a modeling shift from CNN to Transformers in computer vision. In this work, we present a self-supervised learning approach called MoBY, with Vision Transformers as its backbone architecture. The approach basically has no new inventions, which is combined from MoCo v2 and BYOL and tuned to achieve reasonably high accuracy on ImageNet-1K linear evaluation: 72.8% and 75.0% top-1 accuracy using DeiT-S and Swin-T, respectively, by 300-epoch training. The performance is slightly better than recent works of MoCo v3 and DINO which adopt DeiT as the backbone, but with much lighter tricks. More importantly, the general-purpose Swin Transformer backbone enables us to also evaluate the learnt representations on downstream tasks such as object detection and semantic segmentation, in contrast to a few recent approaches built on ViT/DeiT which only report linear evaluation results on ImageNet-1K due to ViT/DeiT not tamed for these dense prediction tasks. We hope our results can facilitate more comprehensive evaluation of self-supervised learning methods designed for Transformer architectures. Informative Dropout for Robust Representation Learning: A Shape-bias PerspectiveBaifeng Shi, Dinghuai Zhang, Qi Dai et al.
Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) are known to rely more on local texture rather than global shape when making decisions. Recent work also indicates a close relationship between CNN's texture-bias and its robustness against distribution shift, adversarial perturbation, random corruption, etc. In this work, we attempt at improving various kinds of robustness universally by alleviating CNN's texture bias. With inspiration from the human visual system, we propose a light-weight model-agnostic method, namely Informative Dropout (InfoDrop), to improve interpretability and reduce texture bias. Specifically, we discriminate texture from shape based on local self-information in an image, and adopt a Dropout-like algorithm to decorrelate the model output from the local texture. Through extensive experiments, we observe enhanced robustness under various scenarios (domain generalization, few-shot classification, image corruption, and adversarial perturbation). To the best of our knowledge, this work is one of the earliest attempts to improve different kinds of robustness in a unified model, shedding new light on the relationship between shape-bias and robustness, also on new approaches to trustworthy machine learning algorithms. Decoupling Localization and Classification in Single Shot Temporal Action DetectionYupan Huang, Qi Dai, Yutong Lu
Video temporal action detection aims to temporally localize and recognize the action in untrimmed videos. Existing one-stage approaches mostly focus on unifying two subtasks, i.e., localization of action proposals and classification of each proposal through a fully shared backbone. However, such design of encapsulating all components of two subtasks in one single network might restrict the training by ignoring the specialized characteristic of each subtask. In this paper, we propose a novel Decoupled Single Shot temporal Action Detection (Decouple-SSAD) method to mitigate such problem by decoupling the localization and classification in a one-stage scheme. Particularly, two separate branches are designed in parallel to enable each component to own representations privately for accurate localization or classification. Each branch produces a set of action anchor layers by applying deconvolution to the feature maps of the main stream. Each branch produces a set of feature maps by applying deconvolution to the feature maps of the main stream. High-level semantic information from deeper layers is thus incorporated to enhance the feature representations. We conduct extensive experiments on THUMOS14 dataset and demonstrate superior performance over state-of-the-art methods. Our code is available online.

StableAnimator: High-Quality Identity-Preserving Human Image AnimationShuyuan Tu, Zhen Xing, Xintong Han et al.
Current diffusion models for human image animation struggle to ensure identity (ID) consistency. This paper presents StableAnimator, the first end-to-end ID-preserving video diffusion framework, which synthesizes high-quality videos without any post-processing, conditioned on a reference image and a sequence of poses. Building upon a video diffusion model, StableAnimator contains carefully designed modules for both training and inference striving for identity consistency. In particular, StableAnimator begins by computing image and face embeddings with off-the-shelf extractors, respectively and face embeddings are further refined by interacting with image embeddings using a global content-aware Face Encoder. Then, StableAnimator introduces a novel distribution-aware ID Adapter that prevents interference caused by temporal layers while preserving ID via alignment. During inference, we propose a novel Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman (HJB) equation-based optimization to further enhance the face quality. We demonstrate that solving the HJB equation can be integrated into the diffusion denoising process, and the resulting solution constrains the denoising path and thus benefits ID preservation. Experiments on multiple benchmarks show the effectiveness of StableAnimator both qualitatively and quantitatively.

LLM2CLIP: Powerful Language Model Unlocks Richer Visual RepresentationWeiquan Huang, Aoqi Wu, Yifan Yang et al.
CLIP is a foundational multimodal model that aligns image and text features into a shared representation space via contrastive learning on large-scale image-text pairs. Its effectiveness primarily stems from the use of natural language as rich supervision. Motivated by the remarkable advancements in large language models (LLMs), this work explores how LLMs' superior text understanding and extensive open-world knowledge can enhance CLIP's capability, especially for processing longer and more complex image captions. We propose an efficient post-training strategy that integrates LLMs into pretrained CLIP. To address the challenge posed by the autoregressive nature of LLMs, we introduce a caption-to-caption contrastive fine-tuning framework, significantly enhancing the discriminative quality of LLM outputs. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our approach outperforms LoRA-based methods, achieving nearly fourfold faster training with superior performance. Furthermore, we validate substantial improvements over state-of-the-art models such as CLIP, EVA02, and SigLip2 across various zero-shot multimodal retrieval tasks, cross-lingual retrieval tasks, and multimodal language model pretraining.

FloVD: Optical Flow Meets Video Diffusion Model for Enhanced Camera-Controlled Video SynthesisWonjoon Jin, Qi Dai, Chong Luo et al.
We present FloVD, a novel video diffusion model for camera-controllable video generation. FloVD leverages optical flow to represent the motions of the camera and moving objects. This approach offers two key benefits. Since optical flow can be directly estimated from videos, our approach allows for the use of arbitrary training videos without ground-truth camera parameters. Moreover, as background optical flow encodes 3D correlation across different viewpoints, our method enables detailed camera control by leveraging the background motion. To synthesize natural object motion while supporting detailed camera control, our framework adopts a two-stage video synthesis pipeline consisting of optical flow generation and flow-conditioned video synthesis. Extensive experiments demonstrate the superiority of our method over previous approaches in terms of accurate camera control and natural object motion synthesis.

AVGen-Bench: A Task-Driven Benchmark for Multi-Granular Evaluation of Text-to-Audio-Video GenerationZiwei Zhou, Zeyuan Lai, Rui Wang et al.
Text-to-Audio-Video (T2AV) generation is rapidly becoming a core interface for media creation, yet its evaluation remains fragmented. Existing benchmarks largely assess audio and video in isolation or rely on coarse embedding similarity, failing to capture the fine-grained joint correctness required by realistic prompts. We introduce AVGen-Bench, a task-driven benchmark for T2AV generation featuring high-quality prompts across 11 real-world categories. To support comprehensive assessment, we propose a multi-granular evaluation framework that combines lightweight specialist models with Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs), enabling evaluation from perceptual quality to fine-grained semantic controllability. Our evaluation reveals a pronounced gap between strong audio-visual aesthetics and weak semantic reliability, including persistent failures in text rendering, speech coherence, physical reasoning, and a universal breakdown in musical pitch control. MagicMotion: Controllable Video Generation with Dense-to-Sparse Trajectory GuidanceQuanhao Li, Zhen Xing, Rui Wang et al.
Recent advances in video generation have led to remarkable improvements in visual quality and temporal coherence. Upon this, trajectory-controllable video generation has emerged to enable precise object motion control through explicitly defined spatial paths. However, existing methods struggle with complex object movements and multi-object motion control, resulting in imprecise trajectory adherence, poor object consistency, and compromised visual quality. Furthermore, these methods only support trajectory control in a single format, limiting their applicability in diverse scenarios. Additionally, there is no publicly available dataset or benchmark specifically tailored for trajectory-controllable video generation, hindering robust training and systematic evaluation. To address these challenges, we introduce MagicMotion, a novel image-to-video generation framework that enables trajectory control through three levels of conditions from dense to sparse: masks, bounding boxes, and sparse boxes. Given an input image and trajectories, MagicMotion seamlessly animates objects along defined trajectories while maintaining object consistency and visual quality. Furthermore, we present MagicData, a large-scale trajectory-controlled video dataset, along with an automated pipeline for annotation and filtering. We also introduce MagicBench, a comprehensive benchmark that assesses both video quality and trajectory control accuracy across different numbers of objects. Phi-Ground Tech Report: Advancing Perception in GUI GroundingMiaosen Zhang, Ziqiang Xu, Jialiang Zhu et al.
With the development of multimodal reasoning models, Computer Use Agents (CUAs), akin to Jarvis from \textit{"Iron Man"}, are becoming a reality. GUI grounding is a core component for CUAs to execute actual actions, similar to mechanical control in robotics, and it directly leads to the success or failure of the system. It determines actions such as clicking and typing, as well as related parameters like the coordinates for clicks. Current end-to-end grounding models still achieve less than 65\% accuracy on challenging benchmarks like ScreenSpot-pro and UI-Vision, indicating they are far from being ready for deployment. % , as a single misclick can result in unacceptable consequences. In this work, we conduct an empirical study on the training of grounding models, examining details from data collection to model training. Ultimately, we developed the \textbf{Phi-Ground} model family, which achieves state-of-the-art performance across all five grounding benchmarks for models under $10B$ parameters in agent settings. In the end-to-end model setting, our model still achieves SOTA results with scores of \textit{\textbf{43.2}} on ScreenSpot-pro and \textit{\textbf{27.2}} on UI-Vision. We believe that the various details discussed in this paper, along with our successes and failures, not only clarify the construction of grounding models but also benefit other perception tasks. StableAnimator++: Overcoming Pose Misalignment and Face Distortion for Human Image AnimationShuyuan Tu, Zhen Xing, Xintong Han et al.
Current diffusion models for human image animation often struggle to maintain identity (ID) consistency, especially when the reference image and driving video differ significantly in body size or position. We introduce StableAnimator++, the first ID-preserving video diffusion framework with learnable pose alignment, capable of generating high-quality videos conditioned on a reference image and a pose sequence without any post-processing. Building upon a video diffusion model, StableAnimator++ contains carefully designed modules for both training and inference, striving for identity consistency. In particular, StableAnimator++ first uses learnable layers to predict the similarity transformation matrices between the reference image and the driven poses via injecting guidance from Singular Value Decomposition (SVD). These matrices align the driven poses with the reference image, mitigating misalignment to a great extent. StableAnimator++ then computes image and face embeddings using off-the-shelf encoders, refining the face embeddings via a global content-aware Face Encoder. To further maintain ID, we introduce a distribution-aware ID Adapter that counteracts interference caused by temporal layers while preserving ID via distribution alignment. During the inference stage, we propose a novel Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman (HJB) based face optimization integrated into the denoising process, guiding the diffusion trajectory for enhanced facial fidelity. Experiments on benchmarks show the effectiveness of StableAnimator++ both qualitatively and quantitatively.
