Med-Query: Steerable Parsing of 9-DoF Medical Anatomies with Query Embedding

Heng Guo, Jianfeng Zhang, Ke Yan et al.

Automatic parsing of human anatomies at the instance-level from 3D computed tomography (CT) is a prerequisite step for many clinical applications. The presence of pathologies, broken structures or limited field-of-view (FOV) can all make anatomy parsing algorithms vulnerable. In this work, we explore how to leverage and implement the successful detection-then-segmentation paradigm for 3D medical data, and propose a steerable, robust, and efficient computing framework for detection, identification, and segmentation of anatomies in CT scans. Considering the complicated shapes, sizes, and orientations of anatomies, without loss of generality, we present a nine degrees of freedom (9-DoF) pose estimation solution in full 3D space using a novel single-stage, non-hierarchical representation. Our whole framework is executed in a steerable manner where any anatomy of interest can be directly retrieved to further boost inference efficiency. We have validated our method on three medical imaging parsing tasks: ribs, spine, and abdominal organs. For rib parsing, CT scans have been annotated at the rib instance-level for quantitative evaluation, similarly for spine vertebrae and abdominal organs. Extensive experiments on 9-DoF box detection and rib instance segmentation demonstrate the high efficiency and effectiveness of our framework (with the identification rate of 97.0% and the segmentation Dice score of 90.9%), compared favorably against several strong baselines (e.g., CenterNet, FCOS, and nnU-Net). For spine parsing and abdominal multi-organ segmentation, our method achieves competitive results on par with state-of-the-art methods on the public CTSpine1K dataset and FLARE22 competition, respectively. Efficient Face Super-Resolution via Wavelet-based Feature Enhancement Network

Wenjie Li, Heng Guo, Xuannan Liu et al.

Face super-resolution aims to reconstruct a high-resolution face image from a low-resolution face image. Previous methods typically employ an encoder-decoder structure to extract facial structural features, where the direct downsampling inevitably introduces distortions, especially to high-frequency features such as edges. To address this issue, we propose a wavelet-based feature enhancement network, which mitigates feature distortion by losslessly decomposing the input feature into high and low-frequency components using the wavelet transform and processing them separately. To improve the efficiency of facial feature extraction, a full domain Transformer is further proposed to enhance local, regional, and global facial features. Such designs allow our method to perform better without stacking many modules as previous methods did. Experiments show that our method effectively balances performance, model size, and speed. Linearly Homomorphic Signature with Tight Security on Lattice

Heng Guo, Fengxia Liu, Kun Tian et al.

Constructing cryptographic schemes with tight or almost-tight security has long been one of the central problems in theoretical cryptography. At ASIACRYPT 2016, Boyen and Li posed an open problem: whether it is possible to construct a homomorphic signature scheme with tight or almost-tight security under the Short Integer Solution (SIS) assumption in the standard model. In 2024, Chen achieved the first construction with almost-tight security under a weaker security model. To further achieve tight security in the standard model, this paper introduces a new security model whose security requirements are weaker than those of the standard adaptive model but stronger than the model adopted by Chen. Under this model, we construct a linearly homomorphic signature scheme with tight security.

Towards a Comprehensive, Efficient and Promptable Anatomic Structure Segmentation Model using 3D Whole-body CT Scans

Heng Guo, Jianfeng Zhang, Jiaxing Huang et al.

Segment anything model (SAM) demonstrates strong generalization ability on natural image segmentation. However, its direct adaptation in medical image segmentation tasks shows significant performance drops. It also requires an excessive number of prompt points to obtain a reasonable accuracy. Although quite a few studies explore adapting SAM into medical image volumes, the efficiency of 2D adaptation methods is unsatisfactory and 3D adaptation methods are only capable of segmenting specific organs/tumors. In this work, we propose a comprehensive and scalable 3D SAM model for whole-body CT segmentation, named CT-SAM3D. Instead of adapting SAM, we propose a 3D promptable segmentation model using a (nearly) fully labeled CT dataset. To train CT-SAM3D effectively, ensuring the model's accurate responses to higher-dimensional spatial prompts is crucial, and 3D patch-wise training is required due to GPU memory constraints. Therefore, we propose two key technical developments: 1) a progressively and spatially aligned prompt encoding method to effectively encode click prompts in local 3D space; and 2) a cross-patch prompt scheme to capture more 3D spatial context, which is beneficial for reducing the editing workloads when interactively prompting on large organs. CT-SAM3D is trained using a curated dataset of 1204 CT scans containing 107 whole-body anatomies and extensively validated using five datasets, achieving significantly better results against all previous SAM-derived models. Code, data, and our 3D interactive segmentation tool with quasi-real-time responses are available at https://github.com/alibaba-damo-academy/ct-sam3d.

FourierSR: A Fourier Token-based Plugin for Efficient Image Super-Resolution

Wenjie Li, Heng Guo, Yuefeng Hou et al.

Image super-resolution (SR) aims to recover low-resolution images to high-resolution images, where improving SR efficiency is a high-profile challenge. However, commonly used units in SR, like convolutions and window-based Transformers, have limited receptive fields, making it challenging to apply them to improve SR under extremely limited computational cost. To address this issue, inspired by modeling convolution theorem through token mix, we propose a Fourier token-based plugin called FourierSR to improve SR uniformly, which avoids the instability or inefficiency of existing token mix technologies when applied as plug-ins. Furthermore, compared to convolutions and windows-based Transformers, our FourierSR only utilizes Fourier transform and multiplication operations, greatly reducing complexity while having global receptive fields. Experimental results show that our FourierSR as a plug-and-play unit brings an average PSNR gain of 0.34dB for existing efficient SR methods on Manga109 test set at the scale of x4, while the average increase in the number of Params and FLOPs is only 0.6% and 1.5% of original sizes. We will release our codes upon acceptance.

Seeing Through the Rain: Resolving High-Frequency Conflicts in Deraining and Super-Resolution via Diffusion Guidance

Wenjie Li, Jinglei Shi, Jin Han et al.

Clean images are crucial for visual tasks such as small object detection, especially at high resolutions. However, real-world images are often degraded by adverse weather, and weather restoration methods may sacrifice high-frequency details critical for analyzing small objects. A natural solution is to apply super-resolution (SR) after weather removal to recover both clarity and fine structures. However, simply cascading restoration and SR struggle to bridge their inherent conflict: removal aims to remove high-frequency weather-induced noise, while SR aims to hallucinate high-frequency textures from existing details, leading to inconsistent restoration contents. In this paper, we take deraining as a case study and propose DHGM, a Diffusion-based High-frequency Guided Model for generating clean and high-resolution images. DHGM integrates pre-trained diffusion priors with high-pass filters to simultaneously remove rain artifacts and enhance structural details. Extensive experiments demonstrate that DHGM achieves superior performance over existing methods, with lower costs.
