Deep learning for table detection and structure recognition: A surveyMahmoud Kasem, Abdelrahman Abdallah, Alexander Berendeyev et al.
Tables are everywhere, from scientific journals, papers, websites, and newspapers all the way to items we buy at the supermarket. Detecting them is thus of utmost importance to automatically understanding the content of a document. The performance of table detection has substantially increased thanks to the rapid development of deep learning networks. The goals of this survey are to provide a profound comprehension of the major developments in the field of Table Detection, offer insight into the different methodologies, and provide a systematic taxonomy of the different approaches. Furthermore, we provide an analysis of both classic and new applications in the field. Lastly, the datasets and source code of the existing models are organized to provide the reader with a compass on this vast literature. Finally, we go over the architecture of utilizing various object detection and table structure recognition methods to create an effective and efficient system, as well as a set of development trends to keep up with state-of-the-art algorithms and future research. We have also set up a public GitHub repository where we will be updating the most recent publications, open data, and source code. The GitHub repository is available at https://github.com/abdoelsayed2016/table-detection-structure-recognition.

Evolution of MAC Protocols in the Machine Learning Decade: A Comprehensive SurveyMostafa Hussien, Islam A. T. F. Taj-Eddin, Mohammed F. A. Ahmed et al.
The last decade, (2012 - 2022), saw an unprecedented advance in machine learning (ML) techniques, particularly deep learning (DL). As a result of the proven capabilities of DL, a large amount of work has been presented and studied in almost every field. Since 2012, when the convolution neural networks have been reintroduced in the context of \textit{ImagNet} competition, DL continued to achieve superior performance in many challenging tasks and problems. Wireless communications, in general, and medium access control (MAC) techniques, in particular, were among the fields that were heavily affected by this improvement. MAC protocols play a critical role in defining the performance of wireless communication systems. At the same time, the community lacks a comprehensive survey that collects, analyses, and categorizes the recent work in ML-inspired MAC techniques. In this work, we fill this gap by surveying a long line of work in this era. We solidify the impact of machine learning on wireless MAC protocols. We provide a comprehensive background to the widely adopted MAC techniques, their design issues, and their taxonomy, in connection with the famous application domains. Furthermore, we provide an overview of the ML techniques that have been considered in this context. Finally, we augment our work by proposing some promising future research directions and open research questions that are worth further investigation.

Customer Profiling, Segmentation, and Sales Prediction using AI in Direct MarketingMahmoud SalahEldin Kasem, Mohamed Hamada, Islam Taj-Eddin
In an increasingly customer-centric business environment, effective communication between marketing and senior management is crucial for success. With the rise of globalization and increased competition, utilizing new data mining techniques to identify potential customers is essential for direct marketing efforts. This paper proposes a data mining preprocessing method for developing a customer profiling system to improve sales performance, including customer equity estimation and customer action prediction. The RFM-analysis methodology is used to evaluate client capital and a boosting tree for prediction. The study highlights the importance of customer segmentation methods and algorithms to increase the accuracy of the prediction. The main result of this study is the creation of a customer profile and forecast for the sale of goods.

Can We See Photosynthesis? Magnifying the Tiny Color Changes of Plant Green Leaves Using Eulerian Video MagnificationIslam A. T. F. Taj-Eddin, Mahmoud Afifi, Mostafa Korashy et al.
Plant aliveness is proven through laboratory experiments and special scientific instruments. In this paper, we aim to detect the degree of animation of plants based on the magnification of the small color changes in the plant's green leaves using the Eulerian video magnification. Capturing the video under a controlled environment, e.g., using a tripod and direct current (DC) light sources, reduces camera movements and minimizes light fluctuations; we aim to reduce the external factors as much as possible. The acquired video is then stabilized and a proposed algorithm used to reduce the illumination variations. Lastly, the Euler magnification is utilized to magnify the color changes on the light invariant video. The proposed system does not require any special purpose instruments as it uses a digital camera with a regular frame rate. The results of magnified color changes on both natural and plastic leaves show that the live green leaves have color changes in contrast to the plastic leaves. Hence, we can argue that the color changes of the leaves are due to biological operations, such as photosynthesis. To date, this is possibly the first work that focuses on interpreting visually, some biological operations of plants without any special purpose instruments.
