RibSeg v2: A Large-scale Benchmark for Rib Labeling and Anatomical Centerline ExtractionLiang Jin, Shixuan Gu, Donglai Wei et al. · harvard
Automatic rib labeling and anatomical centerline extraction are common prerequisites for various clinical applications. Prior studies either use in-house datasets that are inaccessible to communities, or focus on rib segmentation that neglects the clinical significance of rib labeling. To address these issues, we extend our prior dataset (RibSeg) on the binary rib segmentation task to a comprehensive benchmark, named RibSeg v2, with 660 CT scans (15,466 individual ribs in total) and annotations manually inspected by experts for rib labeling and anatomical centerline extraction. Based on the RibSeg v2, we develop a pipeline including deep learning-based methods for rib labeling, and a skeletonization-based method for centerline extraction. To improve computational efficiency, we propose a sparse point cloud representation of CT scans and compare it with standard dense voxel grids. Moreover, we design and analyze evaluation metrics to address the key challenges of each task. Cross-Modality Feature Fusion Based on Structured State Space Duality for Multimodal Image Registration NetworkZhikang Li, Yan Wu, Xin Hu et al.
In multi-modal image registration, the primary challenge lies in shared structural information extraction. Compared to Transformers, Structured State Space Duality (SSD) offers greater global structural feature extraction with higher efficiency during training and inference. Inspired by these advantages, we propose a novel algorithm for multi-modal image registration, named RegNetMamba-2. Our algorithm incorporates SSD into coarse-to-fine matching process to extract local and global structural features effectively. Firstly, SSD is applied in three different scales for multi-modal feature extraction in our network. To strengthen local representation, we pay more attention on foreground edge and structural information by feature scaling function of SSD. Secondly, for shared feature extraction of input images and multi-modal feature fusion in all scales, we propose cross-modality feature fusion model based on SSD, consisting of Cross-Modality feature Interaction (CMI) module and Multi-Scale feature Fusion (MSF) module. CMI module is designed for cross-modality feature extraction of each scale by SSD in cross form. MSF module is designed to employ a progressive upward fusion in feature-level to obtain fine features, consisting of multi-modal features in all scales. Following coarse-to-fine, the features in 1/8 scale from CMI and 1/2 scale from MSF are collected to calculate matching probability scores. Then we respectively establish matching process by correspondences of pixel-wise. Extensive experiments demonstrate that comparing with state-of-the-art deep-learning based algorithms, RegNetMamba-2 has achieved good effects in both performance and efficiency for multi-modal image registration on the following datasets: VIS-SAR (OSDataset), VIS-IR (LGHD/RoadSence) and VIS-NIR (RGB-NIR sense).

A Quantitative Approximation Framework for Flow Distillation in Diffusion ModelsWeiguo Gao, Ming Li, Lei Shi et al.
We develop a quantitative approximation framework for diffusion distillation, viewing few-step sampling as error propagation under compositions of learned flow maps. Focusing on trajectory distillation for the probability-flow ODE, we show that local approximation errors can be strongly amplified in low-noise multimodal regimes, where the underlying dynamics become stiff. In an analytically tractable Gaussian-mixture Ornstein--Uhlenbeck setting, we separate two core difficulties: approximating the time-dependent score field and controlling the dynamical amplification governed by the time-integrated Jacobian bound of the probability-flow ODE. On the approximation side, we prove constructive L^p(p_t) guarantees showing that ReLU--ReQU networks approximate the Gaussian-mixture score uniformly over time, with depth and width scaling polylogarithmically in the target accuracy and explicitly with the mixture geometry. On the stability side, we derive an explicit bound L(t) for the spatial Lipschitz constant of the probability-flow velocity and convert it into a flow map stability estimate governed by \int_s^t L(u)\,du, making late-time amplification in stiff regimes computable. Building on these estimates, we prove that deep residual compositions efficiently approximate the long-horizon transport, with global error controlled by the stability amplification factor, and identify a Lipschitz-mismatch regime in which one-step distillation is structurally unfavorable. The resulting theory yields a stability-balanced non-uniform time grid obtained by uniform partitioning in the cumulative stability coordinate. Experiments support the prediction and reduce end-to-end relative MSE by up to 51.9\% with 8 segments compared with uniform grids.

From Quantity to Quality: Boosting LLM Performance with Self-Guided Data Selection for Instruction TuningMing Li, Yong Zhang, Zhitao Li et al.
In the realm of Large Language Models (LLMs), the balance between instruction data quality and quantity is a focal point. Recognizing this, we introduce a self-guided methodology for LLMs to autonomously discern and select cherry samples from open-source datasets, effectively minimizing manual curation and potential cost for instruction tuning an LLM. Our key innovation, the Instruction-Following Difficulty (IFD) metric, emerges as a pivotal metric to identify discrepancies between a model's expected responses and its intrinsic generation capability. Through the application of IFD, cherry samples can be pinpointed, leading to a marked uptick in model training efficiency. Empirical validations on datasets like Alpaca and WizardLM underpin our findings; with a mere $10\%$ of original data input, our strategy showcases improved results. This synthesis of self-guided cherry-picking and the IFD metric signifies a transformative leap in the instruction tuning of LLMs, promising both efficiency and resource-conscious advancements. When to Trust Your Simulator: Dynamics-Aware Hybrid Offline-and-Online Reinforcement LearningHaoyi Niu, Shubham Sharma, Yiwen Qiu et al. · tsinghua
Learning effective reinforcement learning (RL) policies to solve real-world complex tasks can be quite challenging without a high-fidelity simulation environment. In most cases, we are only given imperfect simulators with simplified dynamics, which inevitably lead to severe sim-to-real gaps in RL policy learning. The recently emerged field of offline RL provides another possibility to learn policies directly from pre-collected historical data. However, to achieve reasonable performance, existing offline RL algorithms need impractically large offline data with sufficient state-action space coverage for training. This brings up a new question: is it possible to combine learning from limited real data in offline RL and unrestricted exploration through imperfect simulators in online RL to address the drawbacks of both approaches? In this study, we propose the Dynamics-Aware Hybrid Offline-and-Online Reinforcement Learning (H2O) framework to provide an affirmative answer to this question. H2O introduces a dynamics-aware policy evaluation scheme, which adaptively penalizes the Q function learning on simulated state-action pairs with large dynamics gaps, while also simultaneously allowing learning from a fixed real-world dataset. Through extensive simulation and real-world tasks, as well as theoretical analysis, we demonstrate the superior performance of H2O against other cross-domain online and offline RL algorithms. H2O provides a brand new hybrid offline-and-online RL paradigm, which can potentially shed light on future RL algorithm design for solving practical real-world tasks.

BiSinger: Bilingual Singing Voice SynthesisHuali Zhou, Yueqian Lin, Yao Shi et al.
Although Singing Voice Synthesis (SVS) has made great strides with Text-to-Speech (TTS) techniques, multilingual singing voice modeling remains relatively unexplored. This paper presents BiSinger, a bilingual pop SVS system for English and Chinese Mandarin. Current systems require separate models per language and cannot accurately represent both Chinese and English, hindering code-switch SVS. To address this gap, we design a shared representation between Chinese and English singing voices, achieved by using the CMU dictionary with mapping rules. We fuse monolingual singing datasets with open-source singing voice conversion techniques to generate bilingual singing voices while also exploring the potential use of bilingual speech data. Experiments affirm that our language-independent representation and incorporation of related datasets enable a single model with enhanced performance in English and code-switch SVS while maintaining Chinese song performance. Discriminator-Guided Model-Based Offline Imitation LearningWenjia Zhang, Haoran Xu, Haoyi Niu et al. · tsinghua
Offline imitation learning (IL) is a powerful method to solve decision-making problems from expert demonstrations without reward labels. Existing offline IL methods suffer from severe performance degeneration under limited expert data. Including a learned dynamics model can potentially improve the state-action space coverage of expert data, however, it also faces challenging issues like model approximation/generalization errors and suboptimality of rollout data. In this paper, we propose the Discriminator-guided Model-based offline Imitation Learning (DMIL) framework, which introduces a discriminator to simultaneously distinguish the dynamics correctness and suboptimality of model rollout data against real expert demonstrations. DMIL adopts a novel cooperative-yet-adversarial learning strategy, which uses the discriminator to guide and couple the learning process of the policy and dynamics model, resulting in improved model performance and robustness. Our framework can also be extended to the case when demonstrations contain a large proportion of suboptimal data. Experimental results show that DMIL and its extension achieve superior performance and robustness compared to state-of-the-art offline IL methods under small datasets.

Self-supervised Geometric Features Discovery via Interpretable Attentio for Vehicle Re-Identification and Beyond (Complete Version)Ming Li, Xinming Huang, Ziming Zhang
To learn distinguishable patterns, most of recent works in vehicle re-identification (ReID) struggled to redevelop official benchmarks to provide various supervisions, which requires prohibitive human labors. In this paper, we seek to achieve the similar goal but do not involve more human efforts. To this end, we introduce a novel framework, which successfully encodes both geometric local features and global representations to distinguish vehicle instances, optimized only by the supervision from official ID labels. Specifically, given our insight that objects in ReID share similar geometric characteristics, we propose to borrow self-supervised representation learning to facilitate geometric features discovery. To condense these features, we introduce an interpretable attention module, with the core of local maxima aggregation instead of fully automatic learning, whose mechanism is completely understandable and whose response map is physically reasonable. To the best of our knowledge, we are the first that perform self-supervised learning to discover geometric features. We conduct comprehensive experiments on three most popular datasets for vehicle ReID, i.e., VeRi-776, CityFlow-ReID, and VehicleID. We report our state-of-the-art (SOTA) performances and promising visualization results. We also show the excellent scalability of our approach on other ReID related tasks, i.e., person ReID and multi-target multi-camera (MTMC) vehicle tracking. Instant3D: Instant Text-to-3D GenerationMing Li, Pan Zhou, Jia-Wei Liu et al.
Text-to-3D generation has attracted much attention from the computer vision community. Existing methods mainly optimize a neural field from scratch for each text prompt, relying on heavy and repetitive training cost which impedes their practical deployment. In this paper, we propose a novel framework for fast text-to-3D generation, dubbed Instant3D. Once trained, Instant3D is able to create a 3D object for an unseen text prompt in less than one second with a single run of a feedforward network. We achieve this remarkable speed by devising a new network that directly constructs a 3D triplane from a text prompt. The core innovation of our Instant3D lies in our exploration of strategies to effectively inject text conditions into the network. In particular, we propose to combine three key mechanisms: cross-attention, style injection, and token-to-plane transformation, which collectively ensure precise alignment of the output with the input text. Furthermore, we propose a simple yet effective activation function, the scaled-sigmoid, to replace the original sigmoid function, which speeds up the training convergence by more than ten times. Finally, to address the Janus (multi-head) problem in 3D generation, we propose an adaptive Perp-Neg algorithm that can dynamically adjust its concept negation scales according to the severity of the Janus problem during training, effectively reducing the multi-head effect. Extensive experiments on a wide variety of benchmark datasets demonstrate that the proposed algorithm performs favorably against the state-of-the-art methods both qualitatively and quantitatively, while achieving significantly better efficiency. Seedance 2.0 is a new native multi-modal audio-video generation model, officially released in China in early February 2026. Compared with its predecessors, Seedance 1.0 and 1.5 Pro, Seedance 2.0 adopts a unified, highly efficient, and large-scale architecture for multi-modal audio-video joint generation. This allows it to support four input modalities: text, image, audio, and video, by integrating one of the most comprehensive suites of multi-modal content reference and editing capabilities available in the industry to date. It delivers substantial, well-rounded improvements across all key sub-dimensions of video and audio generation. In both expert evaluations and public user tests, the model has demonstrated performance on par with the leading levels in the field. Seedance 2.0 supports direct generation of audio-video content with durations ranging from 4 to 15 seconds, with native output resolutions of 480p and 720p. For multi-modal inputs as reference, its current open platform supports up to 3 video clips, 9 images, and 3 audio clips. In addition, we provide Seedance 2.0 Fast version, an accelerated variant of Seedance 2.0 designed to boost generation speed for low-latency scenarios. Seedance 2.0 has delivered significant improvements to its foundational generation capabilities and multi-modal generation performance, bringing an enhanced creative experience for end users.

HAQJSK: Hierarchical-Aligned Quantum Jensen-Shannon Kernels for Graph ClassificationLu Bai, Lixin Cui, Yue Wang et al.
In this work, we propose a family of novel quantum kernels, namely the Hierarchical Aligned Quantum Jensen-Shannon Kernels (HAQJSK), for un-attributed graphs. Different from most existing classical graph kernels, the proposed HAQJSK kernels can incorporate hierarchical aligned structure information between graphs and transform graphs of random sizes into fixed-sized aligned graph structures, i.e., the Hierarchical Transitive Aligned Adjacency Matrix of vertices and the Hierarchical Transitive Aligned Density Matrix of the Continuous-Time Quantum Walk (CTQW). For a pair of graphs to hand, the resulting HAQJSK kernels are defined by measuring the Quantum Jensen-Shannon Divergence (QJSD) between their transitive aligned graph structures. We show that the proposed HAQJSK kernels not only reflect richer intrinsic global graph characteristics in terms of the CTQW, but also address the drawback of neglecting structural correspondence information arising in most existing R-convolution kernels. Furthermore, unlike the previous Quantum Jensen-Shannon Kernels associated with the QJSD and the CTQW, the proposed HAQJSK kernels can simultaneously guarantee the properties of permutation invariant and positive definiteness, explaining the theoretical advantages of the HAQJSK kernels. Experiments indicate the effectiveness of the proposed kernels.

Masked and Swapped Sequence Modeling for Next Novel Basket Recommendation in Grocery ShoppingMing Li, Mozhdeh Ariannezhad, Andrew Yates et al.
Next basket recommendation (NBR) is the task of predicting the next set of items based on a sequence of already purchased baskets. It is a recommendation task that has been widely studied, especially in the context of grocery shopping. In next basket recommendation (NBR), it is useful to distinguish between repeat items, i.e., items that a user has consumed before, and explore items, i.e., items that a user has not consumed before. Most NBR work either ignores this distinction or focuses on repeat items. We formulate the next novel basket recommendation (NNBR) task, i.e., the task of recommending a basket that only consists of novel items, which is valuable for both real-world application and NBR evaluation. We evaluate how existing NBR methods perform on the NNBR task and find that, so far, limited progress has been made w.r.t. the NNBR task. To address the NNBR task, we propose a simple bi-directional transformer basket recommendation model (BTBR), which is focused on directly modeling item-to-item correlations within and across baskets instead of learning complex basket representations. To properly train BTBR, we propose and investigate several masking strategies and training objectives: (i) item-level random masking, (ii) item-level select masking, (iii) basket-level all masking, (iv) basket-level explore masking, and (v) joint masking. In addition, an item-basket swapping strategy is proposed to enrich the item interactions within the same baskets. We conduct extensive experiments on three open datasets with various characteristics. The results demonstrate the effectiveness of BTBR and our masking and swapping strategies for the NNBR task. BTBR with a properly selected masking and swapping strategy can substantially improve NNBR performance.

XVoxel-Based Parametric Design Optimization of Feature ModelsMing Li, Chengfeng Lin, Wei Chen et al.
Parametric optimization is an important product design technique, especially in the context of the modern parametric feature-based CAD paradigm. Realizing its full potential, however, requires a closed loop between CAD and CAE (i.e., CAD/CAE integration) with automatic design modifications and simulation updates. Conventionally the approach of model conversion is often employed to form the loop, but this way of working is hard to automate and requires manual inputs. As a result, the overall optimization process is too laborious to be acceptable. To address this issue, a new method for parametric optimization is introduced in this paper, based on a unified model representation scheme called eXtended Voxels (XVoxels). This scheme hybridizes feature models and voxel models into a new concept of semantic voxels, where the voxel part is responsible for FEM solving, and the semantic part is responsible for high-level information to capture both design and simulation intents. As such, it can establish a direct mapping between design models and analysis models, which in turn enables automatic updates on simulation results for design modifications, and vice versa -- effectively a closed loop between CAD and CAE. In addition, robust and efficient geometric algorithms for manipulating XVoxel models and efficient numerical methods (based on the recent finite cell method) for simulating XVoxel models are provided. The presented method has been validated by a series of case studies of increasing complexity to demonstrate its effectiveness. In particular, a computational efficiency improvement of up to 55.8 times the existing FCM method has been seen.

First Place Solution to the CVPR'2023 AQTC Challenge: A Function-Interaction Centric Approach with Spatiotemporal Visual-Language AlignmentTom Tongjia Chen, Hongshan Yu, Zhengeng Yang et al.
Affordance-Centric Question-driven Task Completion (AQTC) has been proposed to acquire knowledge from videos to furnish users with comprehensive and systematic instructions. However, existing methods have hitherto neglected the necessity of aligning spatiotemporal visual and linguistic signals, as well as the crucial interactional information between humans and objects. To tackle these limitations, we propose to combine large-scale pre-trained vision-language and video-language models, which serve to contribute stable and reliable multimodal data and facilitate effective spatiotemporal visual-textual alignment. Additionally, a novel hand-object-interaction (HOI) aggregation module is proposed which aids in capturing human-object interaction information, thereby further augmenting the capacity to understand the presented scenario. Approximating Human-Like Few-shot Learning with GPT-based CompressionCynthia Huang, Yuqing Xie, Zhiying Jiang et al.
In this work, we conceptualize the learning process as information compression. We seek to equip generative pre-trained models with human-like learning capabilities that enable data compression during inference. We present a novel approach that utilizes the Generative Pre-trained Transformer (GPT) to approximate Kolmogorov complexity, with the aim of estimating the optimal Information Distance for few-shot learning. We first propose using GPT as a prior for lossless text compression, achieving a noteworthy compression ratio. Experiment with LLAMA2-7B backbone achieves a compression ratio of 15.5 on enwik9. We justify the pre-training objective of GPT models by demonstrating its equivalence to the compression length, and, consequently, its ability to approximate the information distance for texts. Leveraging the approximated information distance, our method allows the direct application of GPT models in quantitative text similarity measurements. Experiment results show that our method overall achieves superior performance compared to embedding and prompt baselines on challenging NLP tasks, including semantic similarity, zero and one-shot text classification, and zero-shot text ranking.

Language-Specific Representation of Emotion-Concept Knowledge Causally Supports Emotion InferenceMing Li, Yusheng Su, Hsiu-Yuan Huang et al. · tsinghua
Humans no doubt use language to communicate about their emotional experiences, but does language in turn help humans understand emotions, or is language just a vehicle of communication? This study used a form of artificial intelligence (AI) known as large language models (LLMs) to assess whether language-based representations of emotion causally contribute to the AI's ability to generate inferences about the emotional meaning of novel situations. Fourteen attributes of human emotion concept representation were found to be represented by the LLM's distinct artificial neuron populations. By manipulating these attribute-related neurons, we in turn demonstrated the role of emotion concept knowledge in generative emotion inference. The attribute-specific performance deterioration was related to the importance of different attributes in human mental space. Our findings provide a proof-in-concept that even a LLM can learn about emotions in the absence of sensory-motor representations and highlight the contribution of language-derived emotion-concept knowledge for emotion inference.

FreeSeg: Unified, Universal and Open-Vocabulary Image SegmentationJie Qin, Jie Wu, Pengxiang Yan et al.
Recently, open-vocabulary learning has emerged to accomplish segmentation for arbitrary categories of text-based descriptions, which popularizes the segmentation system to more general-purpose application scenarios. However, existing methods devote to designing specialized architectures or parameters for specific segmentation tasks. These customized design paradigms lead to fragmentation between various segmentation tasks, thus hindering the uniformity of segmentation models. Hence in this paper, we propose FreeSeg, a generic framework to accomplish Unified, Universal and Open-Vocabulary Image Segmentation. FreeSeg optimizes an all-in-one network via one-shot training and employs the same architecture and parameters to handle diverse segmentation tasks seamlessly in the inference procedure. Additionally, adaptive prompt learning facilitates the unified model to capture task-aware and category-sensitive concepts, improving model robustness in multi-task and varied scenarios. Extensive experimental results demonstrate that FreeSeg establishes new state-of-the-art results in performance and generalization on three segmentation tasks, which outperforms the best task-specific architectures by a large margin: 5.5% mIoU on semantic segmentation, 17.6% mAP on instance segmentation, 20.1% PQ on panoptic segmentation for the unseen class on COCO.

Combining Photogrammetric Computer Vision and Semantic Segmentation for Fine-grained Understanding of Coral Reef Growth under Climate ChangeJiageng Zhong, Ming Li, Hanqi Zhang et al.
Corals are the primary habitat-building life-form on reefs that support a quarter of the species in the ocean. A coral reef ecosystem usually consists of reefs, each of which is like a tall building in any city. These reef-building corals secrete hard calcareous exoskeletons that give them structural rigidity, and are also a prerequisite for our accurate 3D modeling and semantic mapping using advanced photogrammetric computer vision and machine learning. Underwater videography as a modern underwater remote sensing tool is a high-resolution coral habitat survey and mapping technique. In this paper, detailed 3D mesh models, digital surface models and orthophotos of the coral habitat are generated from the collected coral images and underwater control points. Meanwhile, a novel pixel-wise semantic segmentation approach of orthophotos is performed by advanced deep learning. Finally, the semantic map is mapped into 3D space. For the first time, 3D fine-grained semantic modeling and rugosity evaluation of coral reefs have been completed at millimeter (mm) accuracy. This provides a new and powerful method for understanding the processes and characteristics of coral reef change at high spatial and temporal resolution under climate change.

DiffusionEngine: Diffusion Model is Scalable Data Engine for Object DetectionManlin Zhang, Jie Wu, Yuxi Ren et al.
Data is the cornerstone of deep learning. This paper reveals that the recently developed Diffusion Model is a scalable data engine for object detection. Existing methods for scaling up detection-oriented data often require manual collection or generative models to obtain target images, followed by data augmentation and labeling to produce training pairs, which are costly, complex, or lacking diversity. To address these issues, we presentDiffusionEngine (DE), a data scaling-up engine that provides high-quality detection-oriented training pairs in a single stage. DE consists of a pre-trained diffusion model and an effective Detection-Adapter, contributing to generating scalable, diverse and generalizable detection data in a plug-and-play manner. Detection-Adapter is learned to align the implicit semantic and location knowledge in off-the-shelf diffusion models with detection-aware signals to make better bounding-box predictions. Additionally, we contribute two datasets, i.e., COCO-DE and VOC-DE, to scale up existing detection benchmarks for facilitating follow-up research. Extensive experiments demonstrate that data scaling-up via DE can achieve significant improvements in diverse scenarios, such as various detection algorithms, self-supervised pre-training, data-sparse, label-scarce, cross-domain, and semi-supervised learning. For example, when using DE with a DINO-based adapter to scale up data, mAP is improved by 3.1% on COCO, 7.6% on VOC, and 11.5% on Clipart.

Discriminative-Generative Target Speaker Extraction with Decoder-Only Language ModelsBang Zeng, Beilong Tang, Wang Xiang et al.
Target speaker extraction (TSE) aims to recover the speech of a desired speaker from a mixture given a short enrollment utterance, while speech enhancement (SE) focuses on improving speech quality under noisy conditions. Most existing TSE and SE systems are based on discriminative modeling and have shown strong interference suppression ability, but they often remain limited in perceptual quality and naturalness. To address this issue, we first introduce LauraTSE, a generative TSE model built on an autoregressive decoder-only language model. Although generative modeling is promising for quality enhancement, purely generative TSE may suffer from hallucination, content drift, and limited controllability in complex acoustic conditions. We therefore propose a discriminative-generative two-stage framework, where a discriminative front-end first produces target-related representations with strong interference suppression, and a generative back-end then reconstructs high-quality speech in the neural audio codec representation space. This design combines the controllability of discriminative extraction with the reconstruction capability of generative modeling. We further investigate several collaboration strategies for the two-stage framework, including front-end freezing, joint fine-tuning, SI-SDR regularization, and autoregressive/non-autoregressive inference. Experimental results on both TSE and SE benchmarks show that the proposed framework achieves a better balance among perceptual quality, intelligibility, and speaker consistency than purely discriminative or purely generative baselines.

A Feature Reuse Framework with Texture-adaptive Aggregation for Reference-based Super-ResolutionXiaoyong Mei, Yi Yang, Ming Li et al.
Reference-based super-resolution (RefSR) has gained considerable success in the field of super-resolution with the addition of high-resolution reference images to reconstruct low-resolution (LR) inputs with more high-frequency details, thereby overcoming some limitations of single image super-resolution (SISR). Previous research in the field of RefSR has mostly focused on two crucial aspects. The first is accurate correspondence matching between the LR and the reference (Ref) image. The second is the effective transfer and aggregation of similar texture information from the Ref images. Nonetheless, an important detail of perceptual loss and adversarial loss has been underestimated, which has a certain adverse effect on texture transfer and reconstruction. In this study, we propose a feature reuse framework that guides the step-by-step texture reconstruction process through different stages, reducing the negative impacts of perceptual and adversarial loss. The feature reuse framework can be used for any RefSR model, and several RefSR approaches have improved their performance after being retrained using our framework. Additionally, we introduce a single image feature embedding module and a texture-adaptive aggregation module. The single image feature embedding module assists in reconstructing the features of the LR inputs itself and effectively lowers the possibility of including irrelevant textures. The texture-adaptive aggregation module dynamically perceives and aggregates texture information between the LR inputs and the Ref images using dynamic filters. Few-Shot Non-Parametric Learning with Deep Latent Variable ModelZhiying Jiang, Yiqin Dai, Ji Xin et al.
Most real-world problems that machine learning algorithms are expected to solve face the situation with 1) unknown data distribution; 2) little domain-specific knowledge; and 3) datasets with limited annotation. We propose Non-Parametric learning by Compression with Latent Variables (NPC-LV), a learning framework for any dataset with abundant unlabeled data but very few labeled ones. By only training a generative model in an unsupervised way, the framework utilizes the data distribution to build a compressor. Using a compressor-based distance metric derived from Kolmogorov complexity, together with few labeled data, NPC-LV classifies without further training. We show that NPC-LV outperforms supervised methods on all three datasets on image classification in low data regime and even outperform semi-supervised learning methods on CIFAR-10. We demonstrate how and when negative evidence lowerbound (nELBO) can be used as an approximate compressed length for classification. By revealing the correlation between compression rate and classification accuracy, we illustrate that under NPC-LV, the improvement of generative models can enhance downstream classification accuracy.

SdCT-GAN: Reconstructing CT from Biplanar X-Rays with Self-driven Generative Adversarial NetworksShuangqin Cheng, Qingliang Chen, Qiyi Zhang et al.
Computed Tomography (CT) is a medical imaging modality that can generate more informative 3D images than 2D X-rays. However, this advantage comes at the expense of more radiation exposure, higher costs, and longer acquisition time. Hence, the reconstruction of 3D CT images using a limited number of 2D X-rays has gained significant importance as an economical alternative. Nevertheless, existing methods primarily prioritize minimizing pixel/voxel-level intensity discrepancies, often neglecting the preservation of textural details in the synthesized images. This oversight directly impacts the quality of the reconstructed images and thus affects the clinical diagnosis. To address the deficits, this paper presents a new self-driven generative adversarial network model (SdCT-GAN), which is motivated to pay more attention to image details by introducing a novel auto-encoder structure in the discriminator. In addition, a Sobel Gradient Guider (SGG) idea is applied throughout the model, where the edge information from the 2D X-ray image at the input can be integrated. Moreover, LPIPS (Learned Perceptual Image Patch Similarity) evaluation metric is adopted that can quantitatively evaluate the fine contours and textures of reconstructed images better than the existing ones. Finally, the qualitative and quantitative results of the empirical studies justify the power of the proposed model compared to mainstream state-of-the-art baselines.

Collaborative Knowledge Graph Fusion by Exploiting the Open CorpusYue Wang, Yao Wan, Lu Bai et al.
To alleviate the challenges of building Knowledge Graphs (KG) from scratch, a more general task is to enrich a KG using triples from an open corpus, where the obtained triples contain noisy entities and relations. It is challenging to enrich a KG with newly harvested triples while maintaining the quality of the knowledge representation. This paper proposes a system to refine a KG using information harvested from an additional corpus. To this end, we formulate our task as two coupled sub-tasks, namely join event extraction (JEE) and knowledge graph fusion (KGF). We then propose a Collaborative Knowledge Graph Fusion Framework to allow our sub-tasks to mutually assist one another in an alternating manner. More concretely, the explorer carries out the JEE supervised by both the ground-truth annotation and an existing KG provided by the supervisor. The supervisor then evaluates the triples extracted by the explorer and enriches the KG with those that are highly ranked. To implement this evaluation, we further propose a Translated Relation Alignment Scoring Mechanism to align and translate the extracted triples to the prior KG. Experiments verify that this collaboration can both improve the performance of the JEE and the KGF.

ChatRadio-Valuer: A Chat Large Language Model for Generalizable Radiology Report Generation Based on Multi-institution and Multi-system DataTianyang Zhong, Wei Zhao, Yutong Zhang et al.
Radiology report generation, as a key step in medical image analysis, is critical to the quantitative analysis of clinically informed decision-making levels. However, complex and diverse radiology reports with cross-source heterogeneity pose a huge generalizability challenge to the current methods under massive data volume, mainly because the style and normativity of radiology reports are obviously distinctive among institutions, body regions inspected and radiologists. Recently, the advent of large language models (LLM) offers great potential for recognizing signs of health conditions. To resolve the above problem, we collaborate with the Second Xiangya Hospital in China and propose ChatRadio-Valuer based on the LLM, a tailored model for automatic radiology report generation that learns generalizable representations and provides a basis pattern for model adaptation in sophisticated analysts' cases. Specifically, ChatRadio-Valuer is trained based on the radiology reports from a single institution by means of supervised fine-tuning, and then adapted to disease diagnosis tasks for human multi-system evaluation (i.e., chest, abdomen, muscle-skeleton, head, and maxillofacial $\&$ neck) from six different institutions in clinical-level events. The clinical dataset utilized in this study encompasses a remarkable total of \textbf{332,673} observations. From the comprehensive results on engineering indicators, clinical efficacy and deployment cost metrics, it can be shown that ChatRadio-Valuer consistently outperforms state-of-the-art models, especially ChatGPT (GPT-3.5-Turbo) and GPT-4 et al., in terms of the diseases diagnosis from radiology reports. ChatRadio-Valuer provides an effective avenue to boost model generalization performance and alleviate the annotation workload of experts to enable the promotion of clinical AI applications in radiology reports.

Resolving Long-Tail Ambiguity in Unsupervised 3D Point Cloud Segmentation with Language PriorsSiqi Wei, Hongbin Xu, Feng Xiao et al.
Existing approaches for unsupervised 3D point cloud segmentation predominantly rely on a purely visual similarity-based learning-by-clustering paradigm, which suffers from a fundamental limitation: long-tail ambiguity. In such a paradigm, features of minor classes are consistently absorbed by dominant clusters, leading to severely imbalanced predictions. To address this issue, we propose LangTail, a language-guided hierarchical learning framework that leverages the balanced world knowledge encoded in language models to mitigate long-tail ambiguity in unsupervised 3D segmentation. The key idea is to establish multi-level associations between language-derived semantic priors and visually underrepresented minor classes, thereby compensating for the biased attention of purely visual clustering toward dominant classes. Specifically, LangTail first constructs an entity-level semantic prior from language models, capturing balanced and fine-grained world knowledge across categories. These priors are injected into a hierarchical clustering framework via contrastive alignment. This guides multi-granularity semantic structure formation and prevents minor classes from being absorbed by dominant clusters, yielding more discriminative representations for underrepresented categories. Extensive experiments on ScanNet-v2, S3DIS, and nuScenes demonstrate that LangTail consistently outperforms existing methods by significant margins, \ie, +13.5, +12.9, and +8.9 mIoU, respectively. These results demonstrate the effectiveness of language priors in improving the representation of minority classes in 3D point clouds. PhyCritic: Multimodal Critic Models for Physical AITianyi Xiong, Shihao Wang, Guilin Liu et al.
With the rapid development of large multimodal models, reliable judge and critic models have become essential for open-ended evaluation and preference alignment, providing pairwise preferences, numerical scores, and explanatory justifications for assessing model-generated responses. However, existing critics are primarily trained in general visual domains such as captioning or image question answering, leaving physical AI tasks involving perception, causal reasoning, and planning largely underexplored. We introduce PhyCritic, a multimodal critic model optimized for physical AI through a two-stage RLVR pipeline: a physical skill warmup stage that enhances physically oriented perception and reasoning, followed by self-referential critic finetuning, where the critic generates its own prediction as an internal reference before judging candidate responses, improving judgment stability and physical correctness. Across both physical and general-purpose multimodal judge benchmarks, PhyCritic achieves strong performance gains over open-source baselines and, when applied as a policy model, further improves perception and reasoning in physically grounded tasks.

Permutation Equivariant Graph Framelets for Heterophilous Graph LearningJianfei Li, Ruigang Zheng, Han Feng et al.
The nature of heterophilous graphs is significantly different from that of homophilous graphs, which causes difficulties in early graph neural network models and suggests aggregations beyond the 1-hop neighborhood. In this paper, we develop a new way to implement multi-scale extraction via constructing Haar-type graph framelets with desired properties of permutation equivariance, efficiency, and sparsity, for deep learning tasks on graphs. We further design a graph framelet neural network model PEGFAN (Permutation Equivariant Graph Framelet Augmented Network) based on our constructed graph framelets. The experiments are conducted on a synthetic dataset and 9 benchmark datasets to compare performance with other state-of-the-art models. The result shows that our model can achieve the best performance on certain datasets of heterophilous graphs (including the majority of heterophilous datasets with relatively larger sizes and denser connections) and competitive performance on the remaining.

Vision-Language Model Fine-Tuning via Simple Parameter-Efficient ModificationMing Li, Jike Zhong, Chenxin Li et al.
Recent advances in fine-tuning Vision-Language Models (VLMs) have witnessed the success of prompt tuning and adapter tuning, while the classic model fine-tuning on inherent parameters seems to be overlooked. It is believed that fine-tuning the parameters of VLMs with few-shot samples corrupts the pre-trained knowledge since fine-tuning the CLIP model even degrades performance. In this paper, we revisit this viewpoint, and propose a new perspective: fine-tuning the specific parameters instead of all will uncover the power of classic model fine-tuning on VLMs. Through our meticulous study, we propose ClipFit, a simple yet effective method to fine-tune CLIP without introducing any overhead of extra parameters. We demonstrate that by only fine-tuning the specific bias terms and normalization layers, ClipFit can improve the performance of zero-shot CLIP by 7.27\% average harmonic mean accuracy. Lastly, to understand how fine-tuning in CLIPFit affects the pre-trained models, we conducted extensive experimental analyses w.r.t. changes in internal parameters and representations. DLIP: Distilling Language-Image Pre-trainingHuafeng Kuang, Jie Wu, Xiawu Zheng et al.
Vision-Language Pre-training (VLP) shows remarkable progress with the assistance of extremely heavy parameters, which challenges deployment in real applications. Knowledge distillation is well recognized as the essential procedure in model compression. However, existing knowledge distillation techniques lack an in-depth investigation and analysis of VLP, and practical guidelines for VLP-oriented distillation are still not yet explored. In this paper, we present DLIP, a simple yet efficient Distilling Language-Image Pre-training framework, through which we investigate how to distill a light VLP model. Specifically, we dissect the model distillation from multiple dimensions, such as the architecture characteristics of different modules and the information transfer of different modalities. We conduct comprehensive experiments and provide insights on distilling a light but performant VLP model. Experimental results reveal that DLIP can achieve a state-of-the-art accuracy/efficiency trade-off across diverse cross-modal tasks, e.g., image-text retrieval, image captioning and visual question answering. For example, DLIP compresses BLIP by 1.9x, from 213M to 108M parameters, while achieving comparable or better performance. Furthermore, DLIP succeeds in retaining more than 95% of the performance with 22.4% parameters and 24.8% FLOPs compared to the teacher model and accelerates inference speed by 2.7x.

Learning from Noisy Preferences: A Semi-Supervised Learning Approach to Direct Preference OptimizationXinxin Liu, Ming Li, Zonglin Lyu et al.
Human visual preferences are inherently multi-dimensional, encompassing aesthetics, detail fidelity, and semantic alignment. However, existing datasets provide only single, holistic annotations, resulting in severe label noise: images that excel in some dimensions but are deficient in others are simply marked as winner or loser. We theoretically demonstrate that compressing multi-dimensional preferences into binary labels generates conflicting gradient signals that misguide Diffusion Direct Preference Optimization (DPO). To address this, we propose Semi-DPO, a semi-supervised approach that treats consistent pairs as clean labeled data and conflicting ones as noisy unlabeled data. Our method starts by training on a consensus-filtered clean subset, then uses this model as an implicit classifier to generate pseudo-labels for the noisy set for iterative refinement. Experimental results demonstrate that Semi-DPO achieves state-of-the-art performance and significantly improves alignment with complex human preferences, without requiring additional human annotation or explicit reward models during training. Style-Preserving Lip Sync via Audio-Aware Style ReferenceWeizhi Zhong, Jichang Li, Yinqi Cai et al.
Audio-driven lip sync has recently drawn significant attention due to its widespread application in the multimedia domain. Individuals exhibit distinct lip shapes when speaking the same utterance, attributed to the unique speaking styles of individuals, posing a notable challenge for audio-driven lip sync. Earlier methods for such task often bypassed the modeling of personalized speaking styles, resulting in sub-optimal lip sync conforming to the general styles. Recent lip sync techniques attempt to guide the lip sync for arbitrary audio by aggregating information from a style reference video, yet they can not preserve the speaking styles well due to their inaccuracy in style aggregation. This work proposes an innovative audio-aware style reference scheme that effectively leverages the relationships between input audio and reference audio from style reference video to address the style-preserving audio-driven lip sync. Specifically, we first develop an advanced Transformer-based model adept at predicting lip motion corresponding to the input audio, augmented by the style information aggregated through cross-attention layers from style reference video. Afterwards, to better render the lip motion into realistic talking face video, we devise a conditional latent diffusion model, integrating lip motion through modulated convolutional layers and fusing reference facial images via spatial cross-attention layers. Extensive experiments validate the efficacy of the proposed approach in achieving precise lip sync, preserving speaking styles, and generating high-fidelity, realistic talking face videos.

STPrivacy: Spatio-Temporal Privacy-Preserving Action RecognitionMing Li, Xiangyu Xu, Hehe Fan et al.
Existing methods of privacy-preserving action recognition (PPAR) mainly focus on frame-level (spatial) privacy removal through 2D CNNs. Unfortunately, they have two major drawbacks. First, they may compromise temporal dynamics in input videos, which are critical for accurate action recognition. Second, they are vulnerable to practical attacking scenarios where attackers probe for privacy from an entire video rather than individual frames. To address these issues, we propose a novel framework STPrivacy to perform video-level PPAR. For the first time, we introduce vision Transformers into PPAR by treating a video as a tubelet sequence, and accordingly design two complementary mechanisms, i.e., sparsification and anonymization, to remove privacy from a spatio-temporal perspective. In specific, our privacy sparsification mechanism applies adaptive token selection to abandon action-irrelevant tubelets. Then, our anonymization mechanism implicitly manipulates the remaining action-tubelets to erase privacy in the embedding space through adversarial learning. These mechanisms provide significant advantages in terms of privacy preservation for human eyes and action-privacy trade-off adjustment during deployment. We additionally contribute the first two large-scale PPAR benchmarks, VP-HMDB51 and VP-UCF101, to the community. Extensive evaluations on them, as well as two other tasks, validate the effectiveness and generalization capability of our framework.

V-REX: Benchmarking Exploratory Visual Reasoning via Chain-of-QuestionsChenrui Fan, Yijun Liang, Shweta Bhardwaj et al.
While many vision-language models (VLMs) are developed to answer well-defined, straightforward questions with highly specified targets, as in most benchmarks, they often struggle in practice with complex open-ended tasks, which usually require multiple rounds of exploration and reasoning in the visual space. Such visual thinking paths not only provide step-by-step exploration and verification as an AI detective but also produce better interpretations of the final answers. However, these paths are challenging to evaluate due to the large exploration space of intermediate steps. To bridge the gap, we develop an evaluation suite, ``Visual Reasoning with multi-step EXploration (V-REX)'', which is composed of a benchmark of challenging visual reasoning tasks requiring native multi-step exploration and an evaluation protocol. V-REX covers rich application scenarios across diverse domains. V-REX casts the multi-step exploratory reasoning into a Chain-of-Questions (CoQ) and disentangles VLMs' capability to (1) Planning: breaking down an open-ended task by selecting a chain of exploratory questions; and (2) Following: answering curated CoQ sequentially to collect information for deriving the final answer. By curating finite options of questions and answers per step, V-REX achieves a reliable quantitative and fine-grained analysis of the intermediate steps. By assessing SOTA proprietary and open-sourced VLMs, we reveal consistent scaling trends, significant differences between planning and following abilities, and substantial room for improvement in multi-step exploratory reasoning.

A Systematic Survey and Benchmark of Deep Learning for Molecular Property Prediction in the Foundation Model EraZongru Li, Xingsheng Chen, Honggang Wen et al.
Molecular property prediction integrates quantum chemistry, cheminformatics, and deep learning to connect molecular structure with physicochemical and biological behavior. This survey traces four complementary paradigms, including Quantum, Descriptor Machine Learning, Geometric Deep Learning, and Foundation Models, and outlines a unified taxonomy linking molecular representations, model architectures, and interdisciplinary applications. Benchmark analyses integrate evidence from both widely used datasets and datasets reflecting industry perspectives, encompassing quantum, physicochemical, physiological, and biophysical domains. The survey examines current standards in data curation, splitting strategies, and evaluation protocols, highlighting challenges including inconsistent stereochemistry, heterogeneous assay sources, and reproducibility limitations under random or poorly defined splits. These observations motivate the modernization of benchmark design toward more transparent, time- and scaffold-aware methodologies. We further propose three forward-looking directions: (i) physics-aware learning embedding quantum consistency, (ii) uncertainty-calibrated foundation models for trustworthy inference, and (iii) realistic multimodal benchmark ecosystems integrating computational and experimental data. Deep Learning-Based UAV Aerial Triangulation without Image Control PointsJiageng Zhong, Ming Li, Jiangying Qin et al.
The emerging drone aerial survey has the advantages of low cost, high efficiency, and flexible use. However, UAVs are often equipped with cheap POS systems and non-measurement cameras, and their flight attitudes are easily affected. How to realize the large-scale mapping of UAV image-free control supported by POS faces many technical problems. The most basic and important core technology is how to accurately realize the absolute orientation of images through advanced aerial triangulation technology. In traditional aerial triangulation, image matching algorithms are constrained to varying degrees by preset prior knowledge. In recent years, deep learning has developed rapidly in the field of photogrammetric computer vision. It has surpassed the performance of traditional handcrafted features in many aspects. It has shown stronger stability in image-based navigation and positioning tasks, especially it has better resistance to unfavorable factors such as blur, illumination changes, and geometric distortion. Based on the introduction of the key technologies of aerial triangulation without image control points, this paper proposes a new drone image registration method based on deep learning image features to solve the problem of high mismatch rate in traditional methods. It adopts SuperPoint as the feature detector, uses the superior generalization performance of CNN to extract precise feature points from the UAV image, thereby achieving high-precision aerial triangulation. Experimental results show that under the same pre-processing and post-processing conditions, compared with the traditional method based on the SIFT algorithm, this method achieves suitable precision more efficiently, which can meet the requirements of UAV aerial triangulation without image control points in large-scale surveys.

PRCA: Fitting Black-Box Large Language Models for Retrieval Question Answering via Pluggable Reward-Driven Contextual AdapterHaoyan Yang, Zhitao Li, Yong Zhang et al.
The Retrieval Question Answering (ReQA) task employs the retrieval-augmented framework, composed of a retriever and generator. The generator formulates the answer based on the documents retrieved by the retriever. Incorporating Large Language Models (LLMs) as generators is beneficial due to their advanced QA capabilities, but they are typically too large to be fine-tuned with budget constraints while some of them are only accessible via APIs. To tackle this issue and further improve ReQA performance, we propose a trainable Pluggable Reward-Driven Contextual Adapter (PRCA), keeping the generator as a black box. Positioned between the retriever and generator in a Pluggable manner, PRCA refines the retrieved information by operating in a token-autoregressive strategy via maximizing rewards of the reinforcement learning phase. Our experiments validate PRCA's effectiveness in enhancing ReQA performance on three datasets by up to 20% improvement to fit black-box LLMs into existing frameworks, demonstrating its considerable potential in the LLMs era.

The DKU-DUKEECE System for the Manipulation Region Location Task of ADD 2023Zexin Cai, Weiqing Wang, Yikang Wang et al.
This paper introduces our system designed for Track 2, which focuses on locating manipulated regions, in the second Audio Deepfake Detection Challenge (ADD 2023). Our approach involves the utilization of multiple detection systems to identify splicing regions and determine their authenticity. Specifically, we train and integrate two frame-level systems: one for boundary detection and the other for deepfake detection. Additionally, we employ a third VAE model trained exclusively on genuine data to determine the authenticity of a given audio clip. Through the fusion of these three systems, our top-performing solution for the ADD challenge achieves an impressive 82.23% sentence accuracy and an F1 score of 60.66%. This results in a final ADD score of 0.6713, securing the first rank in Track 2 of ADD 2023.

Multi-Granularity Distillation Scheme Towards Lightweight Semi-Supervised Semantic SegmentationJie Qin, Jie Wu, Ming Li et al.
Albeit with varying degrees of progress in the field of Semi-Supervised Semantic Segmentation, most of its recent successes are involved in unwieldy models and the lightweight solution is still not yet explored. We find that existing knowledge distillation techniques pay more attention to pixel-level concepts from labeled data, which fails to take more informative cues within unlabeled data into account. Consequently, we offer the first attempt to provide lightweight SSSS models via a novel multi-granularity distillation (MGD) scheme, where multi-granularity is captured from three aspects: i) complementary teacher structure; ii) labeled-unlabeled data cooperative distillation; iii) hierarchical and multi-levels loss setting. Specifically, MGD is formulated as a labeled-unlabeled data cooperative distillation scheme, which helps to take full advantage of diverse data characteristics that are essential in the semi-supervised setting. Image-level semantic-sensitive loss, region-level content-aware loss, and pixel-level consistency loss are set up to enrich hierarchical distillation abstraction via structurally complementary teachers. Experimental results on PASCAL VOC2012 and Cityscapes reveal that MGD can outperform the competitive approaches by a large margin under diverse partition protocols. For example, the performance of ResNet-18 and MobileNet-v2 backbone is boosted by 11.5% and 4.6% respectively under 1/16 partition protocol on Cityscapes. Although the FLOPs of the model backbone is compressed by 3.4-5.3x (ResNet-18) and 38.7-59.6x (MobileNetv2), the model manages to achieve satisfactory segmentation results.

The paradigm of large-scale pre-training followed by downstream fine-tuning has been widely employed in various object detection algorithms. In this paper, we reveal discrepancies in data, model, and task between the pre-training and fine-tuning procedure in existing practices, which implicitly limit the detector's performance, generalization ability, and convergence speed. To this end, we propose AlignDet, a unified pre-training framework that can be adapted to various existing detectors to alleviate the discrepancies. AlignDet decouples the pre-training process into two stages, i.e., image-domain and box-domain pre-training. The image-domain pre-training optimizes the detection backbone to capture holistic visual abstraction, and box-domain pre-training learns instance-level semantics and task-aware concepts to initialize the parts out of the backbone. By incorporating the self-supervised pre-trained backbones, we can pre-train all modules for various detectors in an unsupervised paradigm. As depicted in Figure 1, extensive experiments demonstrate that AlignDet can achieve significant improvements across diverse protocols, such as detection algorithm, model backbone, data setting, and training schedule. For example, AlignDet improves FCOS by 5.3 mAP, RetinaNet by 2.1 mAP, Faster R-CNN by 3.3 mAP, and DETR by 2.3 mAP under fewer epochs.

The MiniMax-M2 Series: Mini Activations Unleashing Max Real-World IntelligenceMiniMax, Aili Chen, Aonian Li et al.
We introduce the MiniMax-M2 series, a family of Mixture-of-Experts language models built around the principle that mini activations can unleash maximum real-world intelligence. The flagship M2 contains 229.9B total parameters with only 9.8B activated per token. Designed end-to-end for agentic deployment, the M2 series rests on three components: (i) agent-driven data pipelines producing large-scale, verifiable trajectories across agentic coding and agentic cowork, each grounded in an executable workspace and an artifact-aligned reward; (ii) Forge, a scalable agent-native RL system that adapts to long-horizon agent trajectories, paired with windowed-FIFO scheduling, prefix-tree merging, inference optimization, and a clean training-inference-agent decoupling that supports both white-box and black-box agents; (iii) the latest M2.7 checkpoint takes an early step toward self-evolution -- autonomously debugging training runs and modifying its own scaffold. Across M2 through M2.7, this combination translates a mini-activation footprint into frontier-tier performance on agentic coding, deep search, office-task, and reasoning benchmarks.

Convex Dataset Valuation for Post-TrainingSiqi Zeng, Christopher Jung, Rui Li et al.
Improving LLM performance on downstream tasks sometimes requires leveraging auxiliary datasets during post-training. In practice, however, developers face constraints on compute, labeling, and licensing costs that preclude using all available data, necessitating principled dataset-level selection. These constraints are increasingly shaped by dataset marketplaces, where data acquisition is governed by budgets and negotiation. We study dataset valuation as a subset selection problem during LLM post-training. Our goal is to identify and weight auxiliary datasets so as to maximize target task performance given constrained budgets. We first show that commonly used gradient alignment scores provide a reasonable yet incomplete valuation signal, as they ignore redundancy among datasets. To address this, we propose a scalable convex dataset-level valuation method based on kernel mean matching (KMM) in gradient space, which jointly accounts for alignment with the target task and redundancy across auxiliary datasets. Through extensive experiments across diverse post-training settings and tasks, we show that our approach consistently outperforms existing valuation baselines, achieving stronger performance with low computational overhead. Our results position dataset valuation as a practical decision tool for post-training data selection in market-constrained large language model settings. Reflection-Tuning: Data Recycling Improves LLM Instruction-TuningMing Li, Lichang Chen, Jiuhai Chen et al.
Recent advancements in Large Language Models (LLMs) have expanded the horizons of natural language understanding and generation. Notably, the output control and alignment with the input of LLMs can be refined through instruction tuning. However, as highlighted in several studies, low-quality data in the training set are usually detrimental to instruction tuning, resulting in inconsistent or even misleading LLM outputs. We propose a novel method, termed "reflection-tuning," which addresses the problem by self-improvement and judging capabilities of LLMs. This approach utilizes an oracle LLM to recycle the original training data by introspecting and enhancing the quality of instructions and responses in the data. Extensive experiments on widely used evaluation benchmarks show that LLMs trained with our recycled data outperform those trained with existing datasets in various benchmarks.

AERK: Aligned Entropic Reproducing Kernels through Continuous-time Quantum WalksLixin Cui, Ming Li, Yue Wang et al.
In this work, we develop an Aligned Entropic Reproducing Kernel (AERK) for graph classification. We commence by performing the Continuous-time Quantum Walk (CTQW) on each graph structure, and computing the Averaged Mixing Matrix (AMM) to describe how the CTQW visit all vertices from a starting vertex. More specifically, we show how this AMM matrix allows us to compute a quantum Shannon entropy for each vertex of a graph. For pairwise graphs, the proposed AERK kernel is defined by computing a reproducing kernel based similarity between the quantum Shannon entropies of their each pair of aligned vertices. The analysis of theoretical properties reveals that the proposed AERK kernel cannot only address the shortcoming of neglecting the structural correspondence information between graphs arising in most existing R-convolution graph kernels, but also overcome the problem of neglecting the structural differences between pairs of aligned vertices arising in existing vertex-based matching kernels. Moreover, unlike existing classical graph kernels that only focus on the global or local structural information of graphs, the proposed AERK kernel can simultaneously capture both global and local structural information through the quantum Shannon entropies, reflecting more precise kernel based similarity measures between pairs of graphs. The above theoretical properties explain the effectiveness of the proposed kernel. The experimental evaluation on standard graph datasets demonstrates that the proposed AERK kernel is able to outperform state-of-the-art graph kernels for graph classification tasks.

Step 3.5 Flash: Open Frontier-Level Intelligence with 11B Active ParametersAilin Huang, Ang Li, Aobo Kong et al.
We introduce Step 3.5 Flash, a sparse Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) model that bridges frontier-level agentic intelligence and computational efficiency. We focus on what matters most when building agents: sharp reasoning and fast, reliable execution. Step 3.5 Flash pairs a 196B-parameter foundation with 11B active parameters for efficient inference. It is optimized with interleaved 3:1 sliding-window/full attention and Multi-Token Prediction (MTP-3) to reduce the latency and cost of multi-round agentic interactions. To reach frontier-level intelligence, we design a scalable reinforcement learning framework that combines verifiable signals with preference feedback, while remaining stable under large-scale off-policy training, enabling consistent self-improvement across mathematics, code, and tool use. Step 3.5 Flash demonstrates strong performance across agent, coding, and math tasks, achieving 85.4% on IMO-AnswerBench, 86.4% on LiveCodeBench-v6 (2024.08-2025.05), 88.2% on tau2-Bench, 69.0% on BrowseComp (with context management), and 51.0% on Terminal-Bench 2.0, comparable to frontier models such as GPT-5.2 xHigh and Gemini 3.0 Pro. By redefining the efficiency frontier, Step 3.5 Flash provides a high-density foundation for deploying sophisticated agents in real-world industrial environments.

Channel-wise Vector QuantizationWei Song, Tianhang Wang, Yitong Chen et al.
We present Channel-wise Vector Quantization (CVQ), a novel image tokenization paradigm that replaces patch-wise tokens with channel-wise tokens. Unlike conventional vector quantization, which assigns a discrete token to each patch feature vector, CVQ quantizes each channel of the feature map. This formulation represents an image as discrete levels of visual details, rather than as a grid of spatial patches. Based on CVQ, we introduce a new visual autoregressive framework with "next-channel prediction". Instead of rendering images patch by patch in raster order, our Channel-wise Autoregressive (CAR) model predicts image channels sequentially, producing progressively enriched visual details. Specifically, it first sketches global structure and then refines fine-grained attributes, akin to a human artist's workflow. Empirically, we show that: (1) CVQ achieves 100% codebook utilization with a 16K+ codebook size without any bells and whistles, and substantially improves reconstruction quality over conventional VQ; and (2) CAR attains a DPG score of 86.7 and a GenEval score of 0.79, demonstrating strong effectiveness for text-to-image generation.

ClawEnvKit: Automatic Environment Generation for Claw-Like AgentsXirui Li, Ming Li, Derry Xu et al.
Constructing environments for training and evaluating claw-like agents remains a manual, human-intensive process that does not scale. We argue that what is needed is not just a dataset, but an automated pipeline capable of generating diverse, verified environments on demand. To this end, we introduce ClawEnvKit, an autonomous generation pipeline that instantiates this formalism from natural language descriptions. The pipeline comprises three modules: (1) a parser that extracts structured generation parameters from natural language input; (2) a generator that produces the task specification, tool interface, and scoring configuration; and (3) a validator that enforces feasibility, diversity, structural validity, and internal consistency across the generated environments. Using ClawEnvKit, we construct Auto-ClawEval, the first large-scale benchmark for claw-like agents, comprising 1,040 environments across 24 categories. Empirically, Auto-ClawEval matches or exceeds human-curated environments on coherence and clarity at 13,800x lower cost. Evaluated across 4 model families and 8 agent harness frameworks, we find that harness engineering boosts performance by up to 15.7 percentage points over a bare ReAct baseline, completion remains the primary axis of variation with no model saturating the benchmark, and automated generation enables evaluation at a scale previously infeasible. Beyond static benchmarking, ClawEnvKit enables live evaluation: users describe a desired capability in natural language and obtain a verified environment on demand, turning evaluation into a continuous, user-driven process. The same mechanism serves as an on-demand training environment generator, producing task distributions that adapt to an agent's current weaknesses rather than being bounded by existing user logs.

Multi-Crit: Benchmarking Multimodal Judges on Pluralistic Criteria-FollowingTianyi Xiong, Yi Ge, Ming Li et al.
Large multimodal models (LMMs) are increasingly adopted as judges in multimodal evaluation systems due to their strong instruction following and consistency with human preferences. However, their ability to follow diverse, fine-grained evaluation criteria remains underexplored. We develop Multi-Crit, a benchmark for evaluating multimodal judges on their capacity to follow pluralistic criteria and produce reliable criterion-level judgments. Covering both open-ended generation and verifiable reasoning tasks, Multi-Crit is built through a rigorous data curation pipeline that gathers challenging response pairs with multi-criterion human annotations. It further introduces three novel metrics for systematically assessing pluralistic adherence, criterion-switching flexibility, and the ability to recognize criterion-level preference conflicts. Comprehensive analysis of 25 LMMs reveals that 1) proprietary models still struggle to maintain consistent adherence to pluralistic criteria--especially in open-ended evaluation; 2) open-source models lag further behind in flexibly following diverse criteria; and 3) critic fine-tuning with holistic judgment signals enhances visual grounding but fails to generalize to pluralistic criterion-level judgment. Additional analyses on reasoning fine-tuning, test-time scaling, and boundary consistency between open-source and proprietary models further probe the limits of current multimodal judges. As a pioneering study, Multi-Crit lays the foundation for building reliable and steerable multimodal AI evaluation.

TIR-Bench: A Comprehensive Benchmark for Agentic Thinking-with-Images ReasoningMing Li, Jike Zhong, Shitian Zhao et al.
The frontier of visual reasoning is shifting toward models like OpenAI o3, which can intelligently create and operate tools to transform images for problem-solving, also known as thinking-\textit{with}-images in chain-of-thought. Yet existing benchmarks fail to fully capture this advanced capability. Even Visual Search, the most common benchmark for current thinking-\textit{with}-images methods, tests only basic operations such as localization and cropping, offering little insight into more complex, dynamic, and tool-dependent reasoning. We introduce \textbf{TIR-Bench}, a comprehensive benchmark for evaluating agentic thinking-with-images across 13 diverse tasks, each requiring novel tool use for image processing and manipulation in chain-of-thought. We evaluate 22 multimodal large language models (MLLMs), from leading open-sourced and proprietary models to those with explicit tool-use augmentation. Results show that TIR-Bench is universally challenging, and strong performance requires genuine thinking-with-images capabilities. Finally, we present a pilot study comparing direct versus agentic fine-tuning.

Schoenfeld's Anatomy of Mathematical Reasoning by Language ModelsMing Li, Chenrui Fan, Yize Cheng et al.
Large language models increasingly expose reasoning traces, yet their underlying cognitive structure and steps remain difficult to identify and analyze beyond surface-level statistics. We adopt Schoenfeld's Episode Theory as an inductive, intermediate-scale lens and introduce ThinkARM (Anatomy of Reasoning in Models), a scalable framework that explicitly abstracts reasoning traces into functional reasoning steps such as Analysis, Explore, Implement, Verify, etc. When applied to mathematical problem solving by diverse models, this abstraction reveals reproducible thinking dynamics and structural differences between reasoning and non-reasoning models, which are not apparent from token-level views. We further present two diagnostic case studies showing that exploration functions as a critical branching step associated with correctness, and that efficiency-oriented methods selectively suppress evaluative feedback steps rather than uniformly shortening responses. Together, our results demonstrate that episode-level representations make reasoning steps explicit, enabling systematic analysis of how reasoning is structured, stabilized, and altered in modern language models.
