ReSimAD: Zero-Shot 3D Domain Transfer for Autonomous Driving with Source Reconstruction and Target SimulationBo Zhang, Xinyu Cai, Jiakang Yuan et al. · deepmind
Domain shifts such as sensor type changes and geographical situation variations are prevalent in Autonomous Driving (AD), which poses a challenge since AD model relying on the previous domain knowledge can be hardly directly deployed to a new domain without additional costs. In this paper, we provide a new perspective and approach of alleviating the domain shifts, by proposing a Reconstruction-Simulation-Perception (ReSimAD) scheme. Specifically, the implicit reconstruction process is based on the knowledge from the previous old domain, aiming to convert the domain-related knowledge into domain-invariant representations, e.g., 3D scene-level meshes. Besides, the point clouds simulation process of multiple new domains is conditioned on the above reconstructed 3D meshes, where the target-domain-like simulation samples can be obtained, thus reducing the cost of collecting and annotating new-domain data for the subsequent perception process. For experiments, we consider different cross-domain situations such as Waymo-to-KITTI, Waymo-to-nuScenes, Waymo-to-ONCE, etc, to verify the zero-shot target-domain perception using ReSimAD. Results demonstrate that our method is beneficial to boost the domain generalization ability, even promising for 3D pre-training.
MultiSPANS: A Multi-range Spatial-Temporal Transformer Network for Traffic Forecast via Structural Entropy OptimizationDongcheng Zou, Senzhang Wang, Xuefeng Li et al.
Traffic forecasting is a complex multivariate time-series regression task of paramount importance for traffic management and planning. However, existing approaches often struggle to model complex multi-range dependencies using local spatiotemporal features and road network hierarchical knowledge. To address this, we propose MultiSPANS. First, considering that an individual recording point cannot reflect critical spatiotemporal local patterns, we design multi-filter convolution modules for generating informative ST-token embeddings to facilitate attention computation. Then, based on ST-token and spatial-temporal position encoding, we employ the Transformers to capture long-range temporal and spatial dependencies. Furthermore, we introduce structural entropy theory to optimize the spatial attention mechanism. Specifically, The structural entropy minimization algorithm is used to generate optimal road network hierarchies, i.e., encoding trees. Based on this, we propose a relative structural entropy-based position encoding and a multi-head attention masking scheme based on multi-layer encoding trees. Extensive experiments demonstrate the superiority of the presented framework over several state-of-the-art methods in real-world traffic datasets, and the longer historical windows are effectively utilized. The code is available at https://github.com/SELGroup/MultiSPANS.

Multiple Key-value Strategy in Recommendation Systems Incorporating Large Language ModelDui Wang, Xiangyu Hou, Xiaohui Yang et al.
Recommendation system (RS) plays significant roles in matching users information needs for Internet applications, and it usually utilizes the vanilla neural network as the backbone to handle embedding details. Recently, the large language model (LLM) has exhibited emergent abilities and achieved great breakthroughs both in the CV and NLP communities. Thus, it is logical to incorporate RS with LLM better, which has become an emerging research direction. Although some existing works have made their contributions to this issue, they mainly consider the single key situation (e.g. historical interactions), especially in sequential recommendation. The situation of multiple key-value data is simply neglected. This significant scenario is mainstream in real practical applications, where the information of users (e.g. age, occupation, etc) and items (e.g. title, category, etc) has more than one key. Therefore, we aim to implement sequential recommendations based on multiple key-value data by incorporating RS with LLM. In particular, we instruct tuning a prevalent open-source LLM (Llama 7B) in order to inject domain knowledge of RS into the pre-trained LLM. Since we adopt multiple key-value strategies, LLM is hard to learn well among these keys. Thus the general and innovative shuffle and mask strategies, as an innovative manner of data argument, are designed. To demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach, extensive experiments are conducted on the popular and suitable dataset MovieLens which contains multiple keys-value. The experimental results demonstrate that our approach can nicely and effectively complete this challenging issue.
StructChart: On the Schema, Metric, and Augmentation for Visual Chart UnderstandingRenqiu Xia, Haoyang Peng, Hancheng Ye et al.
Charts are common in literature across various scientific fields, conveying rich information easily accessible to readers. Current chart-related tasks focus on either chart perception that extracts information from the visual charts, or chart reasoning given the extracted data, e.g. in a tabular form. In this paper, we introduce StructChart, a novel framework that leverages Structured Triplet Representations (STR) to achieve a unified and label-efficient approach to chart perception and reasoning tasks, which is generally applicable to different downstream tasks, beyond the question-answering task as specifically studied in peer works. Specifically, StructChart first reformulates the chart data from the tubular form (linearized CSV) to STR, which can friendlily reduce the task gap between chart perception and reasoning. We then propose a Structuring Chart-oriented Representation Metric (SCRM) to quantitatively evaluate the chart perception task performance. To augment the training, we further explore the potential of Large Language Models (LLMs) to enhance the diversity in both chart visual style and statistical information. Extensive experiments on various chart-related tasks demonstrate the effectiveness and potential of a unified chart perception-reasoning paradigm to push the frontier of chart understanding.
Shadow Generation for Composite Image Using Diffusion modelQingyang Liu, Junqi You, Jianting Wang et al.
In the realm of image composition, generating realistic shadow for the inserted foreground remains a formidable challenge. Previous works have developed image-to-image translation models which are trained on paired training data. However, they are struggling to generate shadows with accurate shapes and intensities, hindered by data scarcity and inherent task complexity. In this paper, we resort to foundation model with rich prior knowledge of natural shadow images. Specifically, we first adapt ControlNet to our task and then propose intensity modulation modules to improve the shadow intensity. Moreover, we extend the small-scale DESOBA dataset to DESOBAv2 using a novel data acquisition pipeline. Experimental results on both DESOBA and DESOBAv2 datasets as well as real composite images demonstrate the superior capability of our model for shadow generation task. The dataset, code, and model are released at https://github.com/bcmi/Object-Shadow-Generation-Dataset-DESOBAv2.

Benchmarking Poisoning Attacks against Retrieval-Augmented GenerationBaolei Zhang, Haoran Xin, Jiatong Li et al.
Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) has proven effective in mitigating hallucinations in large language models by incorporating external knowledge during inference. However, this integration introduces new security vulnerabilities, particularly to poisoning attacks. Although prior work has explored various poisoning strategies, a thorough assessment of their practical threat to RAG systems remains missing. To address this gap, we propose the first comprehensive benchmark framework for evaluating poisoning attacks on RAG. Our benchmark covers 5 standard question answering (QA) datasets and 10 expanded variants, along with 13 poisoning attack methods and 7 defense mechanisms, representing a broad spectrum of existing techniques. Using this benchmark, we conduct a comprehensive evaluation of all included attacks and defenses across the full dataset spectrum. Our findings show that while existing attacks perform well on standard QA datasets, their effectiveness drops significantly on the expanded versions. Moreover, our results demonstrate that various advanced RAG architectures, such as sequential, branching, conditional, and loop RAG, as well as multi-turn conversational RAG, multimodal RAG systems, and RAG-based LLM agent systems, remain susceptible to poisoning attacks. Notably, current defense techniques fail to provide robust protection, underscoring the pressing need for more resilient and generalizable defense strategies.

Dolphin: Moving Towards Closed-loop Auto-research through Thinking, Practice, and FeedbackJiakang Yuan, Xiangchao Yan, Shiyang Feng et al.
The scientific research paradigm is undergoing a profound transformation owing to the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Recent works demonstrate that various AI-assisted research methods can largely improve research efficiency by improving data analysis, accelerating computation, and fostering novel idea generation. To further move towards the ultimate goal (i.e., automatic scientific research), in this paper, we introduce Dolphin, a closed-loop LLM-driven framework to enhance the automation level of scientific research. Dolphin first generates novel ideas based on feedback from previous experiments and relevant papers ranked by the topic and task attributes. Then, the generated ideas can be implemented using a code template refined and debugged with the designed exception-traceback-guided local code structure. Finally, Dolphin automatically analyzes the results of each idea and feeds the results back to the next round of idea generation. Experiments are conducted on the benchmark datasets of different topics and a subset of MLE-bench. Results show that Dolphin can continuously improve the performance of the input topic in a loop. We highlight that Dolphin can automatically propose methods that are comparable to the state-of-the-art in some tasks such as 3D point classification.

Event-Enhanced Snapshot Compressive Videography at 10K FPSBo Zhang, Jinli Suo, Qionghai Dai
Video snapshot compressive imaging (SCI) encodes the target dynamic scene compactly into a snapshot and reconstructs its high-speed frame sequence afterward, greatly reducing the required data footprint and transmission bandwidth as well as enabling high-speed imaging with a low frame rate intensity camera. In implementation, high-speed dynamics are encoded via temporally varying patterns, and only frames at corresponding temporal intervals can be reconstructed, while the dynamics occurring between consecutive frames are lost. To unlock the potential of conventional snapshot compressive videography, we propose a novel hybrid "intensity+event" imaging scheme by incorporating an event camera into a video SCI setup. Our proposed system consists of a dual-path optical setup to record the coded intensity measurement and intermediate event signals simultaneously, which is compact and photon-efficient by collecting the half photons discarded in conventional video SCI. Correspondingly, we developed a dual-branch Transformer utilizing the reciprocal relationship between two data modes to decode dense video frames. Extensive experiments on both simulated and real-captured data demonstrate our superiority to state-of-the-art video SCI and video frame interpolation (VFI) methods. Benefiting from the new hybrid design leveraging both intrinsic redundancy in videos and the unique feature of event cameras, we achieve high-quality videography at 0.1ms time intervals with a low-cost CMOS image sensor working at 24 FPS.

Research on Early Warning Model of Cardiovascular Disease Based on Computer Deep LearningYuxiang Hu, Jinxin Hu, Ting Xu et al.
This project intends to study a cardiovascular disease risk early warning model based on one-dimensional convolutional neural networks. First, the missing values of 13 physiological and symptom indicators such as patient age, blood glucose, cholesterol, and chest pain were filled and Z-score was standardized. The convolutional neural network is converted into a 2D matrix, the convolution function of 1,3, and 5 is used for the first-order convolution operation, and the Max Pooling algorithm is adopted for dimension reduction. Set the learning rate and output rate. It is optimized by the Adam algorithm. The result of classification is output by a soft classifier. This study was conducted based on Statlog in the UCI database and heart disease database respectively. The empirical data indicate that the forecasting precision of this technique has been enhanced by 11.2%, relative to conventional approaches, while there is a significant improvement in the logarithmic curve fitting. The efficacy and applicability of the novel approach are corroborated through the examination employing a one-dimensional convolutional neural network.

ROME: Robustifying Memory-Efficient NAS via Topology Disentanglement and Gradient AccumulationXiaoxing Wang, Xiangxiang Chu, Yuda Fan et al.
Albeit being a prevalent architecture searching approach, differentiable architecture search (DARTS) is largely hindered by its substantial memory cost since the entire supernet resides in the memory. This is where the single-path DARTS comes in, which only chooses a single-path submodel at each step. While being memory-friendly, it also comes with low computational costs. Nonetheless, we discover a critical issue of single-path DARTS that has not been primarily noticed. Namely, it also suffers from severe performance collapse since too many parameter-free operations like skip connections are derived, just like DARTS does. In this paper, we propose a new algorithm called RObustifying Memory-Efficient NAS (ROME) to give a cure. First, we disentangle the topology search from the operation search to make searching and evaluation consistent. We then adopt Gumbel-Top2 reparameterization and gradient accumulation to robustify the unwieldy bi-level optimization. We verify ROME extensively across 15 benchmarks to demonstrate its effectiveness and robustness.

Measuring Uncertainty through Bayesian Learning of Deep Neural Network StructureZhijie Deng, Yucen Luo, Jun Zhu et al.
Bayesian neural networks (BNNs) augment deep networks with uncertainty quantification by Bayesian treatment of the network weights. However, such models face the challenge of Bayesian inference in a high-dimensional and usually over-parameterized space. This paper investigates a new line of Bayesian deep learning by performing Bayesian inference on network structure. Instead of building structure from scratch inefficiently, we draw inspirations from neural architecture search to represent the network structure. We then develop an efficient stochastic variational inference approach which unifies the learning of both network structure and weights. Empirically, our method exhibits competitive predictive performance while preserving the benefits of Bayesian principles across challenging scenarios. We also provide convincing experimental justification for our modeling choice.
