Large-Scale Traffic Congestion Prediction based on Multimodal Fusion and Representation MappingBodong Zhou, Jiahui Liu, Songyi Cui et al.
With the progress of the urbanisation process, the urban transportation system is extremely critical to the development of cities and the quality of life of the citizens. Among them, it is one of the most important tasks to judge traffic congestion by analysing the congestion factors. Recently, various traditional and machine-learning-based models have been introduced for predicting traffic congestion. However, these models are either poorly aggregated for massive congestion factors or fail to make accurate predictions for every precise location in large-scale space. To alleviate these problems, a novel end-to-end framework based on convolutional neural networks is proposed in this paper. With learning representations, the framework proposes a novel multimodal fusion module and a novel representation mapping module to achieve traffic congestion predictions on arbitrary query locations on a large-scale map, combined with various global reference information. The proposed framework achieves significant results and efficient inference on real-world large-scale datasets.

ASSIST-3D: Adapted Scene Synthesis for Class-Agnostic 3D Instance SegmentationShengchao Zhou, Jiehong Lin, Jiahui Liu et al.
Class-agnostic 3D instance segmentation tackles the challenging task of segmenting all object instances, including previously unseen ones, without semantic class reliance. Current methods struggle with generalization due to the scarce annotated 3D scene data or noisy 2D segmentations. While synthetic data generation offers a promising solution, existing 3D scene synthesis methods fail to simultaneously satisfy geometry diversity, context complexity, and layout reasonability, each essential for this task. To address these needs, we propose an Adapted 3D Scene Synthesis pipeline for class-agnostic 3D Instance SegmenTation, termed as ASSIST-3D, to synthesize proper data for model generalization enhancement. Specifically, ASSIST-3D features three key innovations, including 1) Heterogeneous Object Selection from extensive 3D CAD asset collections, incorporating randomness in object sampling to maximize geometric and contextual diversity; 2) Scene Layout Generation through LLM-guided spatial reasoning combined with depth-first search for reasonable object placements; and 3) Realistic Point Cloud Construction via multi-view RGB-D image rendering and fusion from the synthetic scenes, closely mimicking real-world sensor data acquisition. Experiments on ScanNetV2, ScanNet++, and S3DIS benchmarks demonstrate that models trained with ASSIST-3D-generated data significantly outperform existing methods. Further comparisons underscore the superiority of our purpose-built pipeline over existing 3D scene synthesis approaches.

Semantic-Spatial Feature Fusion with Dynamic Graph Refinement for Remote Sensing Image CaptioningMaofu Liu, Jiahui Liu, Xiaokang Zhang
Remote sensing image captioning aims to generate semantically accurate descriptions that are closely linked to the visual features of remote sensing images. Existing approaches typically emphasize fine-grained extraction of visual features and capturing global information. However, they often overlook the complementary role of textual information in enhancing visual semantics and face challenges in precisely locating objects that are most relevant to the image context. To address these challenges, this paper presents a semantic-spatial feature fusion with dynamic graph refinement (SFDR) method, which integrates the semantic-spatial feature fusion (SSFF) and dynamic graph feature refinement (DGFR) modules. The SSFF module utilizes a multi-level feature representation strategy by leveraging pre-trained CLIP features, grid features, and ROI features to integrate rich semantic and spatial information. In the DGFR module, a graph attention network captures the relationships between feature nodes, while a dynamic weighting mechanism prioritizes objects that are most relevant to the current scene and suppresses less significant ones. Therefore, the proposed SFDR method significantly enhances the quality of the generated descriptions. Experimental results on three benchmark datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. The source code will be available at https://github.com/zxk688}{https://github.com/zxk688.

Thinking Outside the Box: Orthogonal Approach to Equalizing Protected AttributesJiahui Liu, Xiaohao Cai, Mahesan Niranjan
There is growing concern that the potential of black box AI may exacerbate health-related disparities and biases such as gender and ethnicity in clinical decision-making. Biased decisions can arise from data availability and collection processes, as well as from the underlying confounding effects of the protected attributes themselves. This work proposes a machine learning-based orthogonal approach aiming to analyze and suppress the effect of the confounder through discriminant dimensionality reduction and orthogonalization of the protected attributes against the primary attribute information. By doing so, the impact of the protected attributes on disease diagnosis can be realized, undesirable feature correlations can be mitigated, and the model prediction performance can be enhanced.
