InternVideo-Ego4D: A Pack of Champion Solutions to Ego4D ChallengesGuo Chen, Sen Xing, Zhe Chen et al.
In this report, we present our champion solutions to five tracks at Ego4D challenge. We leverage our developed InternVideo, a video foundation model, for five Ego4D tasks, including Moment Queries, Natural Language Queries, Future Hand Prediction, State Change Object Detection, and Short-term Object Interaction Anticipation. InternVideo-Ego4D is an effective paradigm to adapt the strong foundation model to the downstream ego-centric video understanding tasks with simple head designs. In these five tasks, the performance of InternVideo-Ego4D comprehensively surpasses the baseline methods and the champions of CVPR2022, demonstrating the powerful representation ability of InternVideo as a video foundation model. Our code will be released at https://github.com/OpenGVLab/ego4d-eccv2022-solutions
Object-Aware Distillation Pyramid for Open-Vocabulary Object DetectionLuting Wang, Yi Liu, Penghui Du et al.
Open-vocabulary object detection aims to provide object detectors trained on a fixed set of object categories with the generalizability to detect objects described by arbitrary text queries. Previous methods adopt knowledge distillation to extract knowledge from Pretrained Vision-and-Language Models (PVLMs) and transfer it to detectors. However, due to the non-adaptive proposal cropping and single-level feature mimicking processes, they suffer from information destruction during knowledge extraction and inefficient knowledge transfer. To remedy these limitations, we propose an Object-Aware Distillation Pyramid (OADP) framework, including an Object-Aware Knowledge Extraction (OAKE) module and a Distillation Pyramid (DP) mechanism. When extracting object knowledge from PVLMs, the former adaptively transforms object proposals and adopts object-aware mask attention to obtain precise and complete knowledge of objects. The latter introduces global and block distillation for more comprehensive knowledge transfer to compensate for the missing relation information in object distillation. Extensive experiments show that our method achieves significant improvement compared to current methods. Especially on the MS-COCO dataset, our OADP framework reaches $35.6$ mAP$^{\text{N}}_{50}$, surpassing the current state-of-the-art method by $3.3$ mAP$^{\text{N}}_{50}$. Code is released at https://github.com/LutingWang/OADP.
Towards Efficient and Effective Text-to-Video Retrieval with Coarse-to-Fine Visual Representation LearningKaibin Tian, Yanhua Cheng, Yi Liu et al.
In recent years, text-to-video retrieval methods based on CLIP have experienced rapid development. The primary direction of evolution is to exploit the much wider gamut of visual and textual cues to achieve alignment. Concretely, those methods with impressive performance often design a heavy fusion block for sentence (words)-video (frames) interaction, regardless of the prohibitive computation complexity. Nevertheless, these approaches are not optimal in terms of feature utilization and retrieval efficiency. To address this issue, we adopt multi-granularity visual feature learning, ensuring the model's comprehensiveness in capturing visual content features spanning from abstract to detailed levels during the training phase. To better leverage the multi-granularity features, we devise a two-stage retrieval architecture in the retrieval phase. This solution ingeniously balances the coarse and fine granularity of retrieval content. Moreover, it also strikes a harmonious equilibrium between retrieval effectiveness and efficiency. Specifically, in training phase, we design a parameter-free text-gated interaction block (TIB) for fine-grained video representation learning and embed an extra Pearson Constraint to optimize cross-modal representation learning. In retrieval phase, we use coarse-grained video representations for fast recall of top-k candidates, which are then reranked by fine-grained video representations. Extensive experiments on four benchmarks demonstrate the efficiency and effectiveness. Notably, our method achieves comparable performance with the current state-of-the-art methods while being nearly 50 times faster.

The Volcspeech system for the ICASSP 2022 multi-channel multi-party meeting transcription challengeChen Shen, Yi Liu, Wenzhi Fan et al.
This paper describes our submission to ICASSP 2022 Multi-channel Multi-party Meeting Transcription (M2MeT) Challenge. For Track 1, we propose several approaches to empower the clustering-based speaker diarization system to handle overlapped speech. Front-end dereverberation and the direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation are used to improve the accuracy of speaker diarization. Multi-channel combination and overlap detection are applied to reduce the missed speaker error. A modified DOVER-Lap is also proposed to fuse the results of different systems. We achieve the final DER of 5.79% on the Eval set and 7.23% on the Test set. For Track 2, we develop our system using the Conformer model in a joint CTC-attention architecture. Serialized output training is adopted to multi-speaker overlapped speech recognition. We propose a neural front-end module to model multi-channel audio and train the model end-to-end. Various data augmentation methods are utilized to mitigate over-fitting in the multi-channel multi-speaker E2E system. Transformer language model fusion is developed to achieve better performance. The final CER is 19.2% on the Eval set and 20.8% on the Test set.

Multi-Modal Coreference Resolution with the Correlation between Space StructuresQibin Zheng, Xingchun Diao, Jianjun Cao et al.
Multi-modal data is becoming more common in big data background. Finding the semantically similar objects from different modality is one of the heart problems of multi-modal learning. Most of the current methods try to learn the inter-modal correlation with extrinsic supervised information, while intrinsic structural information of each modality is neglected. The performance of these methods heavily depends on the richness of training samples. However, obtaining the multi-modal training samples is still a labor and cost intensive work. In this paper, we bring a extrinsic correlation between the space structures of each modalities in coreference resolution. With this correlation, a semi-supervised learning model for multi-modal coreference resolution is proposed. We firstly extract high-level features of images and text, then compute the distances of each object from some reference points to build the space structure of each modality. With a shared reference point set, the space structures of each modality are correlated. We employ the correlation to build a commonly shared space that the semantic distance between multi-modal objects can be computed directly. The experiments on two multi-modal datasets show that our model performs better than the existing methods with insufficient training data.
