Panoramic Video Salient Object Detection with Ambisonic Audio Guidance

Xiang Li, Haoyuan Cao, Shijie Zhao et al. · pku

Video salient object detection (VSOD), as a fundamental computer vision problem, has been extensively discussed in the last decade. However, all existing works focus on addressing the VSOD problem in 2D scenarios. With the rapid development of VR devices, panoramic videos have been a promising alternative to 2D videos to provide immersive feelings of the real world. In this paper, we aim to tackle the video salient object detection problem for panoramic videos, with their corresponding ambisonic audios. A multimodal fusion module equipped with two pseudo-siamese audio-visual context fusion (ACF) blocks is proposed to effectively conduct audio-visual interaction. The ACF block equipped with spherical positional encoding enables the fusion in the 3D context to capture the spatial correspondence between pixels and sound sources from the equirectangular frames and ambisonic audios. Experimental results verify the effectiveness of our proposed components and demonstrate that our method achieves state-of-the-art performance on the ASOD60K dataset.

Online Video Instance Segmentation via Robust Context Fusion

Xiang Li, Jinglu Wang, Xiaohao Xu et al.

Video instance segmentation (VIS) aims at classifying, segmenting and tracking object instances in video sequences. Recent transformer-based neural networks have demonstrated their powerful capability of modeling spatio-temporal correlations for the VIS task. Relying on video- or clip-level input, they suffer from high latency and computational cost. We propose a robust context fusion network to tackle VIS in an online fashion, which predicts instance segmentation frame-by-frame with a few preceding frames. To acquire the precise and temporal-consistent prediction for each frame efficiently, the key idea is to fuse effective and compact context from reference frames into the target frame. Considering the different effects of reference and target frames on the target prediction, we first summarize contextual features through importance-aware compression. A transformer encoder is adopted to fuse the compressed context. Then, we leverage an order-preserving instance embedding to convey the identity-aware information and correspond the identities to predicted instance masks. We demonstrate that our robust fusion network achieves the best performance among existing online VIS methods and is even better than previously published clip-level methods on the Youtube-VIS 2019 and 2021 benchmarks. In addition, visual objects often have acoustic signatures that are naturally synchronized with them in audio-bearing video recordings. By leveraging the flexibility of our context fusion network on multi-modal data, we further investigate the influence of audios on the video-dense prediction task, which has never been discussed in existing works. We build up an Audio-Visual Instance Segmentation dataset, and demonstrate that acoustic signals in the wild scenarios could benefit the VIS task.

Recovering Surveillance Video Using RF Cues

Xiang Li, Rabih Younes

Video capture is the most extensively utilized human perception source due to its intuitively understandable nature. A desired video capture often requires multiple environmental conditions such as ample ambient-light, unobstructed space, and proper camera angle. In contrast, wireless measurements are more ubiquitous and have fewer environmental constraints. In this paper, we propose CSI2Video, a novel cross-modal method that leverages only WiFi signals from commercial devices and a source of human identity information to recover fine-grained surveillance video in a real-time manner. Specifically, two tailored deep neural networks are designed to conduct cross-modal mapping and video generation tasks respectively. We make use of an auto-encoder-based structure to extract pose features from WiFi frames. Afterward, both extracted pose features and identity information are merged to generate synthetic surveillance video. Our solution generates realistic surveillance videos without any expensive wireless equipment and has ubiquitous, cheap, and real-time characteristics.

Scalable Benchmarking and Robust Learning for Noise-Free Ego-Motion and 3D Reconstruction from Noisy Video

Xiaohao Xu, Tianyi Zhang, Shibo Zhao et al.

We aim to redefine robust ego-motion estimation and photorealistic 3D reconstruction by addressing a critical limitation: the reliance on noise-free data in existing models. While such sanitized conditions simplify evaluation, they fail to capture the unpredictable, noisy complexities of real-world environments. Dynamic motion, sensor imperfections, and synchronization perturbations lead to sharp performance declines when these models are deployed in practice, revealing an urgent need for frameworks that embrace and excel under real-world noise. To bridge this gap, we tackle three core challenges: scalable data generation, comprehensive benchmarking, and model robustness enhancement. First, we introduce a scalable noisy data synthesis pipeline that generates diverse datasets simulating complex motion, sensor imperfections, and synchronization errors. Second, we leverage this pipeline to create Robust-Ego3D, a benchmark rigorously designed to expose noise-induced performance degradation, highlighting the limitations of current learning-based methods in ego-motion accuracy and 3D reconstruction quality. Third, we propose Correspondence-guided Gaussian Splatting (CorrGS), a novel test-time adaptation method that progressively refines an internal clean 3D representation by aligning noisy observations with rendered RGB-D frames from clean 3D map, enhancing geometric alignment and appearance restoration through visual correspondence. Extensive experiments on synthetic and real-world data demonstrate that CorrGS consistently outperforms prior state-of-the-art methods, particularly in scenarios involving rapid motion and dynamic illumination.

Forgery Attack Detection in Surveillance Video Streams Using Wi-Fi Channel State Information

Yong Huang, Xiang Li, Wei Wang et al.

The cybersecurity breaches expose surveillance video streams to forgery attacks, under which authentic streams are falsified to hide unauthorized activities. Traditional video forensics approaches can localize forgery traces using spatial-temporal analysis on relatively long video clips, while falling short in real-time forgery detection. The recent work correlates time-series camera and wireless signals to detect looped videos but cannot realize fine-grained forgery localization. To overcome these limitations, we propose Secure-Pose, which exploits the pervasive coexistence of surveillance and Wi-Fi infrastructures to defend against video forgery attacks in a real-time and fine-grained manner. We observe that coexisting camera and Wi-Fi signals convey common human semantic information and forgery attacks on video streams will decouple such information correspondence. Particularly, retrievable human pose features are first extracted from concurrent video and Wi-Fi channel state information (CSI) streams. Then, a lightweight detection network is developed to accurately discover forgery attacks and an efficient localization algorithm is devised to seamlessly track forgery traces in video streams. We implement Secure-Pose using one Logitech camera and two Intel 5300 NICs and evaluate it in different environments. Secure-Pose achieves a high detection accuracy of 98.7% and localizes abnormal objects under playback and tampering attacks.
