Towards Lightweight Cross-domain Sequential Recommendation via External Attention-enhanced Graph Convolution Network

Jinyu Zhang, Huichuan Duan, Lei Guo et al.

Cross-domain Sequential Recommendation (CSR) is an emerging yet challenging task that depicts the evolution of behavior patterns for overlapped users by modeling their interactions from multiple domains. Existing studies on CSR mainly focus on using composite or in-depth structures that achieve significant improvement in accuracy but bring a huge burden to the model training. Moreover, to learn the user-specific sequence representations, existing works usually adopt the global relevance weighting strategy (e.g., self-attention mechanism), which has quadratic computational complexity. In this work, we introduce a lightweight external attention-enhanced GCN-based framework to solve the above challenges, namely LEA-GCN. Specifically, by only keeping the neighborhood aggregation component and using the Single-Layer Aggregating Protocol (SLAP), our lightweight GCN encoder performs more efficiently to capture the collaborative filtering signals of the items from both domains. To further alleviate the framework structure and aggregate the user-specific sequential pattern, we devise a novel dual-channel External Attention (EA) component, which calculates the correlation among all items via a lightweight linear structure. Extensive experiments are conducted on two real-world datasets, demonstrating that LEA-GCN requires a smaller volume and less training time without affecting the accuracy compared with several state-of-the-art methods.

Feedback Favors the Generalization of Neural ODEs

Jindou Jia, Zihan Yang, Meng Wang et al.

The well-known generalization problem hinders the application of artificial neural networks in continuous-time prediction tasks with varying latent dynamics. In sharp contrast, biological systems can neatly adapt to evolving environments benefiting from real-time feedback mechanisms. Inspired by the feedback philosophy, we present feedback neural networks, showing that a feedback loop can flexibly correct the learned latent dynamics of neural ordinary differential equations (neural ODEs), leading to a prominent generalization improvement. The feedback neural network is a novel two-DOF neural network, which possesses robust performance in unseen scenarios with no loss of accuracy performance on previous tasks.} A linear feedback form is presented to correct the learned latent dynamics firstly, with a convergence guarantee. Then, domain randomization is utilized to learn a nonlinear neural feedback form. Finally, extensive tests including trajectory prediction of a real irregular object and model predictive control of a quadrotor with various uncertainties, are implemented, indicating significant improvements over state-of-the-art model-based and learning-based methods.

Multimodal LLM Integrated Semantic Communications for 6G Immersive Experiences

Yusong Zhang, Yuxuan Sun, Lei Guo et al.

6G networks promise revolutionary immersive communication experiences including augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and holographic communications. These applications demand high-dimensional multimodal data transmission and intelligent data processing in real-time, which is extremely challenging over resource-limited wireless communication systems. Moreover, a joint understanding of the environment, context, and user intent is essential to deliver task-relevant content effectively. This article presents a novel multimodal large language model (MLLM) integrated semantic communications framework, termed MLLM-SC, which fully leverages reasoning and generative capabilities of pre-trained foundation models for context-aware and task-oriented wireless communication. The MLLM-SC framework adopts a device-edge collaborative architecture. At the edge, MLLM-empowered semantic guidance module analyzes multimodal inputs, user intents, and channel conditions to generate importance-aware attention maps prioritizing semantically critical information. An importance-aware semantic encoder and a resource-adaptive semantic decoder are jointly designed and optimized, which can utilize the semantic guidance for adaptive bandwidth allocation and high-quality content reconstruction or generation. Extensive case studies on visual question answering for AR/VR applications and diffusion-driven image generation validate the effectiveness of MLLM-SC.
