System-status-aware Adaptive Network for Online Streaming Video Understanding

Lin Geng Foo, Jia Gong, Zhipeng Fan et al.

Recent years have witnessed great progress in deep neural networks for real-time applications. However, most existing works do not explicitly consider the general case where the device's state and the available resources fluctuate over time, and none of them investigate or address the impact of varying computational resources for online video understanding tasks. This paper proposes a System-status-aware Adaptive Network (SAN) that considers the device's real-time state to provide high-quality predictions with low delay. Usage of our agent's policy improves efficiency and robustness to fluctuations of the system status. On two widely used video understanding tasks, SAN obtains state-of-the-art performance while constantly keeping processing delays low. Moreover, training such an agent on various types of hardware configurations is not easy as the labeled training data might not be available, or can be computationally prohibitive. To address this challenging problem, we propose a Meta Self-supervised Adaptation (MSA) method that adapts the agent's policy to new hardware configurations at test-time, allowing for easy deployment of the model onto other unseen hardware platforms.

Poisoned LangChain: Jailbreak LLMs by LangChain

Ziqiu Wang, Jun Liu, Shengkai Zhang et al.

With the development of natural language processing (NLP), large language models (LLMs) are becoming increasingly popular. LLMs are integrating more into everyday life, raising public concerns about their security vulnerabilities. Consequently, the security of large language models is becoming critically important. Currently, the techniques for attacking and defending against LLMs are continuously evolving. One significant method type of attack is the jailbreak attack, which designed to evade model safety mechanisms and induce the generation of inappropriate content. Existing jailbreak attacks primarily rely on crafting inducement prompts for direct jailbreaks, which are less effective against large models with robust filtering and high comprehension abilities. Given the increasing demand for real-time capabilities in large language models, real-time updates and iterations of new knowledge have become essential. Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), an advanced technique to compensate for the model's lack of new knowledge, is gradually becoming mainstream. As RAG enables the model to utilize external knowledge bases, it provides a new avenue for jailbreak attacks. In this paper, we conduct the first work to propose the concept of indirect jailbreak and achieve Retrieval-Augmented Generation via LangChain. Building on this, we further design a novel method of indirect jailbreak attack, termed Poisoned-LangChain (PLC), which leverages a poisoned external knowledge base to interact with large language models, thereby causing the large models to generate malicious non-compliant dialogues. We tested this method on six different large language models across three major categories of jailbreak issues. The experiments demonstrate that PLC successfully implemented indirect jailbreak attacks under three different scenarios, achieving success rates of 88.56%, 79.04%, and 82.69% respectively.

Submodular Optimization for Coupled Task Allocation and Intermittent Deployment Problems

Jun Liu, Ryan K. Williams

In this paper, we demonstrate a formulation for optimizing coupled submodular maximization problems with provable sub-optimality bounds. In robotics applications, it is quite common that optimization problems are coupled with one another and therefore cannot be solved independently. Specifically, we consider two problems coupled if the outcome of the first problem affects the solution of a second problem that operates over a longer time scale. For example, in our motivating problem of environmental monitoring, we posit that multi-robot task allocation will potentially impact environmental dynamics and thus influence the quality of future monitoring, here modeled as a multi-robot intermittent deployment problem. The general theoretical approach for solving this type of coupled problem is demonstrated through this motivating example. Specifically, we propose a method for solving coupled problems modeled by submodular set functions with matroid constraints. A greedy algorithm for solving this class of problem is presented, along with sub-optimality guarantees. Finally, practical optimality ratios are shown through Monte Carlo simulations to demonstrate that the proposed algorithm can generate near-optimal solutions with high efficiency.

Distributed Resilient Submodular Action Selection in Adversarial Environments

Jun Liu, Lifeng Zhou, Pratap Tokekar et al.

In this letter, we consider a distributed submodular maximization problem for multi-robot systems when attacked by adversaries. One of the major challenges for multi-robot systems is to increase resilience against failures or attacks. This is particularly important for distributed systems under attack as there is no central point of command that can detect, mitigate, and recover from attacks. Instead, a distributed multi-robot system must coordinate effectively to overcome adversarial attacks. In this work, our distributed submodular action selection problem models a broad set of scenarios where each robot in a multi-robot system has multiple action selections that may fulfill a global objective, such as exploration or target tracking. To increase resilience in this context, we propose a fully distributed algorithm to guide each robot's action selection when the system is attacked. The proposed algorithm guarantees performance in a worst-case scenario where up to a portion of the robots malfunction due to attacks. Importantly, the proposed algorithm is also consistent, as it is shown to converge to the same solution as a centralized method. Finally, a distributed resilient multi-robot exploration problem is presented to confirm the performance of the proposed algorithm.
