Spatio-temporal Gait Feature with Global Distance AlignmentYifan Chen, Yang Zhao, Xuelong Li
Gait recognition is an important recognition technology, because gait is not easy to camouflage and does not need cooperation to recognize subjects. However, many existing methods are inadequate in preserving both temporal information and fine-grained information, thus reducing its discrimination. This problem is more serious when the subjects with similar walking postures are identified. In this paper, we try to enhance the discrimination of spatio-temporal gait features from two aspects: effective extraction of spatio-temporal gait features and reasonable refinement of extracted features. Thus our method is proposed, it consists of Spatio-temporal Feature Extraction (SFE) and Global Distance Alignment (GDA). SFE uses Temporal Feature Fusion (TFF) and Fine-grained Feature Extraction (FFE) to effectively extract the spatio-temporal features from raw silhouettes. GDA uses a large number of unlabeled gait data in real life as a benchmark to refine the extracted spatio-temporal features. GDA can make the extracted features have low inter-class similarity and high intra-class similarity, thus enhancing their discrimination. Extensive experiments on mini-OUMVLP and CASIA-B have proved that we have a better result than some state-of-the-art methods.

A novel spatial-frequency domain network for zero-shot incremental learningJie Ren, Yang Zhao, Weichuan Zhang et al.
Zero-shot incremental learning aims to enable the model to generalize to new classes without forgetting previously learned classes. However, the semantic gap between old and new sample classes can lead to catastrophic forgetting. Additionally, existing algorithms lack capturing significant information from each sample image domain, impairing models' classification performance. Therefore, this paper proposes a novel Spatial-Frequency Domain Network (SFDNet) which contains a Spatial-Frequency Feature Extraction (SFFE) module and Attention Feature Alignment (AFA) module to improve the Zero-Shot Translation for Class Incremental algorithm. Firstly, SFFE module is designed which contains a dual attention mechanism for obtaining salient spatial-frequency feature information. Secondly, a novel feature fusion module is conducted for obtaining fused spatial-frequency domain features. Thirdly, the Nearest Class Mean classifier is utilized to select the most suitable category. Finally, iteration between tasks is performed using the Zero-Shot Translation model. The proposed SFDNet has the ability to effectively extract spatial-frequency feature representation from input images, improve the accuracy of image classification, and fundamentally alleviate catastrophic forgetting. Extensive experiments on the CUB 200-2011 and CIFAR100 datasets demonstrate that our proposed algorithm outperforms state-of-the-art incremental learning algorithms.

Instant-NeRF: Instant On-Device Neural Radiance Field Training via Algorithm-Accelerator Co-Designed Near-Memory ProcessingYang Zhao, Shang Wu, Jingqun Zhang et al.
Instant on-device Neural Radiance Fields (NeRFs) are in growing demand for unleashing the promise of immersive AR/VR experiences, but are still limited by their prohibitive training time. Our profiling analysis reveals a memory-bound inefficiency in NeRF training. To tackle this inefficiency, near-memory processing (NMP) promises to be an effective solution, but also faces challenges due to the unique workloads of NeRFs, including the random hash table lookup, random point processing sequence, and heterogeneous bottleneck steps. Therefore, we propose the first NMP framework, Instant-NeRF, dedicated to enabling instant on-device NeRF training. Experiments on eight datasets consistently validate the effectiveness of Instant-NeRF.

Seq-Masks: Bridging the gap between appearance and gait modeling for video-based person re-identificationZhigang Chang, Zhao Yang, Yongbiao Chen et al.
ideo-based person re-identification (Re-ID) aims to match person images in video sequences captured by disjoint surveillance cameras. Traditional video-based person Re-ID methods focus on exploring appearance information, thus, vulnerable against illumination changes, scene noises, camera parameters, and especially clothes/carrying variations. Gait recognition provides an implicit biometric solution to alleviate the above headache. Nonetheless, it experiences severe performance degeneration as camera view varies. In an attempt to address these problems, in this paper, we propose a framework that utilizes the sequence masks (SeqMasks) in the video to integrate appearance information and gait modeling in a close fashion. Specifically, to sufficiently validate the effectiveness of our method, we build a novel dataset named MaskMARS based on MARS. Comprehensive experiments on our proposed large wild video Re-ID dataset MaskMARS evidenced our extraordinary performance and generalization capability. Validations on the gait recognition metric CASIA-B dataset further demonstrated the capability of our hybrid model.
FaultNet: A Deep Convolutional Neural Network for bearing fault classificationRishikesh Magar, Lalit Ghule, Junhan Li et al.
The increased presence of advanced sensors on the production floors has led to the collection of datasets that can provide significant insights into machine health. An important and reliable indicator of machine health, vibration signal data can provide us a greater understanding of different faults occurring in mechanical systems. In this work, we analyze vibration signal data of mechanical systems with bearings by combining different signal processing methods and coupling them with machine learning techniques to classify different types of bearing faults. We also highlight the importance of using different signal processing methods and analyze their effect on accuracy for bearing fault detection. Apart from the traditional machine learning algorithms we also propose a convolutional neural network FaultNet which can effectively determine the type of bearing fault with a high degree of accuracy. The distinguishing factor of this work is the idea of channels proposed to extract more information from the signal, we have stacked the Mean and Median channels to raw signal to extract more useful features to classify the signals with greater accuracy.
