Parallel Spatio-Temporal Attention-Based TCN for Multivariate Time Series PredictionFan Jin, Ke Zhang, Yipan Huang et al.
As industrial systems become more complex and monitoring sensors for everything from surveillance to our health become more ubiquitous, multivariate time series prediction is taking an important place in the smooth-running of our society. A recurrent neural network with attention to help extend the prediction windows is the current-state-of-the-art for this task. However, we argue that their vanishing gradients, short memories, and serial architecture make RNNs fundamentally unsuited to long-horizon forecasting with complex data. Temporal convolutional networks (TCNs) do not suffer from gradient problems and they support parallel calculations, making them a more appropriate choice. Additionally, they have longer memories than RNNs, albeit with some instability and efficiency problems. Hence, we propose a framework, called PSTA-TCN, that combines a parallel spatio-temporal attention mechanism to extract dynamic internal correlations with stacked TCN backbones to extract features from different window sizes. The framework makes full use parallel calculations to dramatically reduce training times, while substantially increasing accuracy with stable prediction windows up to 13 times longer than the status quo.

BaFTA: Backprop-Free Test-Time Adaptation For Zero-Shot Vision-Language ModelsXuefeng Hu, Ke Zhang, Min Sun et al.
Large-scale pretrained vision-language models like CLIP have demonstrated remarkable zero-shot image classification capabilities across diverse domains. To enhance CLIP's performance while preserving the zero-shot paradigm, various test-time prompt tuning methods have been introduced to refine class embeddings through unsupervised learning objectives during inference. However, these methods often encounter challenges in selecting appropriate learning rates to prevent collapsed training in the absence of validation data during test-time adaptation. In this study, we propose a novel backpropagation-free algorithm BaFTA for test-time adaptation of vision-language models. Instead of fine-tuning text prompts to refine class embeddings, our approach directly estimates class centroids using online clustering within a projected embedding space that aligns text and visual embeddings. We dynamically aggregate predictions from both estimated and original class embeddings, as well as from distinct augmented views, by assessing the reliability of each prediction using Rényi Entropy. Through extensive experiments, we demonstrate that BaFTA consistently outperforms state-of-the-art test-time adaptation methods in both effectiveness and efficiency.

Multi-task Paired Masking with Alignment Modeling for Medical Vision-Language Pre-trainingKe Zhang, Yan Yang, Jun Yu et al.
In recent years, the growing demand for medical imaging diagnosis has placed a significant burden on radiologists. As a solution, Medical Vision-Language Pre-training (Med-VLP) methods have been proposed to learn universal representations from medical images and reports, benefiting downstream tasks without requiring fine-grained annotations. However, existing methods have overlooked the importance of cross-modal alignment in joint image-text reconstruction, resulting in insufficient cross-modal interaction. To address this limitation, we propose a unified Med-VLP framework based on Multi-task Paired Masking with Alignment (MPMA) to integrate the cross-modal alignment task into the joint image-text reconstruction framework to achieve more comprehensive cross-modal interaction, while a Global and Local Alignment (GLA) module is designed to assist self-supervised paradigm in obtaining semantic representations with rich domain knowledge. Furthermore, we introduce a Memory-Augmented Cross-Modal Fusion (MA-CMF) module to fully integrate visual information to assist report reconstruction and fuse the multi-modal representations adequately. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed unified approach outperforms previous methods in all downstream tasks, including uni-modal, cross-modal, and multi-modal tasks.
