Pseudo-labelling and Meta Reweighting Learning for Image Aesthetic Quality Assessment

Xin Jin, Hao Lou, Huang Heng et al.

In the tasks of image aesthetic quality evaluation, it is difficult to reach both the high score area and low score area due to the normal distribution of aesthetic datasets. To reduce the error in labeling and solve the problem of normal data distribution, we propose a new aesthetic mixed dataset with classification and regression called AMD-CR, and we train a meta reweighting network to reweight the loss of training data differently. In addition, we provide a training strategy acccording to different stages, based on pseudo labels of the binary classification task, and then we use it for aesthetic training acccording to different stages in classification and regression tasks. In the construction of the network structure, we construct an aesthetic adaptive block (AAB) structure that can adapt to any size of the input images. Besides, we also use the efficient channel attention (ECA) to strengthen the feature extracting ability of each task. The experimental result shows that our method improves 0.1112 compared with the conventional methods in SROCC. The method can also help to find best aesthetic path planning for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) and vehicles.

Unbiased IoU for Spherical Image Object Detection

Qiang Zhao, Bin Chen, Hang Xu et al.

As one of the most fundamental and challenging problems in computer vision, object detection tries to locate object instances and find their categories in natural images. The most important step in the evaluation of object detection algorithm is calculating the intersection-over-union (IoU) between the predicted bounding box and the ground truth one. Although this procedure is well-defined and solved for planar images, it is not easy for spherical image object detection. Existing methods either compute the IoUs based on biased bounding box representations or make excessive approximations, thus would give incorrect results. In this paper, we first identify that spherical rectangles are unbiased bounding boxes for objects in spherical images, and then propose an analytical method for IoU calculation without any approximations. Based on the unbiased representation and calculation, we also present an anchor free object detection algorithm for spherical images. The experiments on two spherical object detection datasets show that the proposed method can achieve better performance than existing methods.

A Recursive Network with Dynamic Attention for Monaural Speech Enhancement

Andong Li, Chengshi Zheng, Cunhang Fan et al.

A person tends to generate dynamic attention towards speech under complicated environments. Based on this phenomenon, we propose a framework combining dynamic attention and recursive learning together for monaural speech enhancement. Apart from a major noise reduction network, we design a separated sub-network, which adaptively generates the attention distribution to control the information flow throughout the major network. To effectively decrease the number of trainable parameters, recursive learning is introduced, which means that the network is reused for multiple stages, where the intermediate output in each stage is correlated with a memory mechanism. As a result, a more flexible and better estimation can be obtained. We conduct experiments on TIMIT corpus. Experimental results show that the proposed architecture obtains consistently better performance than recent state-of-the-art models in terms of both PESQ and STOI scores.

Multi-level Chaotic Maps for 3D Textured Model Encryption

Xin Jin, Shuyun Zhu, Le Wu et al.

With rapid progress of Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality technologies, 3D contents are the next widespread media in many applications. Thus, the protection of 3D models is primarily important. Encryption of 3D models is essential to maintain confidentiality. Previous work on encryption of 3D surface model often consider the point clouds, the meshes and the textures individually. In this work, a multi-level chaotic maps models for 3D textured encryption was presented by observing the different contributions for recognizing cipher 3D models between vertices (point cloud), polygons and textures. For vertices which make main contribution for recognizing, we use high level 3D Lu chaotic map to encrypt them. For polygons and textures which make relatively smaller contributions for recognizing, we use 2D Arnold's cat map and 1D Logistic map to encrypt them, respectively. The experimental results show that our method can get similar performance with the other method use the same high level chaotic map for point cloud, polygons and textures, while we use less time. Besides, our method can resist more method of attacks such as statistic attack, brute-force attack, correlation attack.

Predicting Aesthetic Score Distribution through Cumulative Jensen-Shannon Divergence

Xin Jin, Le Wu, Xiaodong Li et al.

Aesthetic quality prediction is a challenging task in the computer vision community because of the complex interplay with semantic contents and photographic technologies. Recent studies on the powerful deep learning based aesthetic quality assessment usually use a binary high-low label or a numerical score to represent the aesthetic quality. However the scalar representation cannot describe well the underlying varieties of the human perception of aesthetics. In this work, we propose to predict the aesthetic score distribution (i.e., a score distribution vector of the ordinal basic human ratings) using Deep Convolutional Neural Network (DCNN). Conventional DCNNs which aim to minimize the difference between the predicted scalar numbers or vectors and the ground truth cannot be directly used for the ordinal basic rating distribution. Thus, a novel CNN based on the Cumulative distribution with Jensen-Shannon divergence (CJS-CNN) is presented to predict the aesthetic score distribution of human ratings, with a new reliability-sensitive learning method based on the kurtosis of the score distribution, which eliminates the requirement of the original full data of human ratings (without normalization). Experimental results on large scale aesthetic dataset demonstrate the effectiveness of our introduced CJS-CNN in this task.

Subspace Perspective on Canonical Correlation Analysis: Dimension Reduction and Minimax Rates

Zhuang Ma, Xiaodong Li

Canonical correlation analysis (CCA) is a fundamental statistical tool for exploring the correlation structure between two sets of random variables. In this paper, motivated by recent success of applying CCA to learn low dimensional representations of high dimensional objects, we propose to quantify the estimation loss of CCA by the excess prediction loss defined through a prediction-after-dimension-reduction framework. Such framework suggests viewing CCA estimation as estimating the subspaces spanned by the canonical variates. Interestedly, the proposed error metrics derived from the excess prediction loss turn out to be closely related to the principal angles between the subspaces spanned by the population and sample canonical variates respectively. We characterize the non-asymptotic minimax rates under the proposed metrics, especially the dependency of the minimax rates on the key quantities including the dimensions, the condition number of the covariance matrices, the canonical correlations and the eigen-gap, with minimal assumptions on the joint covariance matrix. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first finite sample result that captures the effect of the canonical correlations on the minimax rates.
