Indeterminate Probability Theory

Complex continuous or mixed joint distributions (e.g., P(Y | z_1, z_2, ..., z_N)) generally lack closed-form solutions, often necessitating approximations such as MCMC. This paper proposes Indeterminate Probability Theory (IPT), which makes the following contributions: (1) An observer-centered framework in which experimental outcomes are represented as distributions combining ground truth with observation error; (2) The introduction of three independence candidate axioms that enable a two-phase probabilistic inference framework; (3) The derivation of closed-form solutions for arbitrary complex joint distributions under this framework. Both the Indeterminate Probability Neural Network (IPNN) model and the non-neural multivariate time series forecasting application demonstrate IPT's effectiveness in modeling high-dimensional distributions, with successful validation up to 1000 dimensions. Importantly, IPT is consistent with classical probability theory and subsumes the frequentist equation in the limit of vanishing observation error.

Multi-view clustering integrating anchor attribute and structural information

Multisource data has spurred the development of advanced clustering algorithms, such as multi-view clustering, which critically relies on constructing similarity matrices. Traditional algorithms typically generate these matrices from sample attributes alone. However, real-world networks often include pairwise directed topological structures critical for clustering. This paper introduces a novel multi-view clustering algorithm, AAS. It utilizes a two-step proximity approach via anchors in each view, integrating attribute and directed structural information. This approach enhances the clarity of category characteristics in the similarity matrices. The anchor structural similarity matrix leverages strongly connected components of directed graphs. The entire process-from similarity matrices construction to clustering - is consolidated into a unified optimization framework. Comparative experiments on the modified Attribute SBM dataset against eight algorithms affirm the effectiveness and superiority of AAS.

First Target and Opinion then Polarity: Enhancing Target-opinion Correlation for Aspect Sentiment Triplet Extraction

Aspect Sentiment Triplet Extraction (ASTE) aims to extract triplets from a sentence, including target entities, associated sentiment polarities, and opinion spans which rationalize the polarities. Existing methods are short on building correlation between target-opinion pairs, and neglect the mutual interference among different sentiment triplets. To address these issues, we utilize a two-stage framework to enhance the correlation between targets and opinions: at stage one, we extract targets and opinions through sequence tagging; then we append a group of artificial tags named Perceivable Pair, which indicate the span of a specific target-opinion tuple, to the input sentence to obtain closer correlated target-opinion pair representation. Meanwhile, we reduce the negative interference between triplets by restricting tokens' attention field. Finally, the polarity is identified according to the representation of the Perceivable Pair. We conduct experiments on four datasets, and the experimental results show the effectiveness of our model.

Unpaired Sentiment-to-Sentiment Translation: A Cycled Reinforcement Learning Approach

The goal of sentiment-to-sentiment "translation" is to change the underlying sentiment of a sentence while keeping its content. The main challenge is the lack of parallel data. To solve this problem, we propose a cycled reinforcement learning method that enables training on unpaired data by collaboration between a neutralization module and an emotionalization module. We evaluate our approach on two review datasets, Yelp and Amazon. Experimental results show that our approach significantly outperforms the state-of-the-art systems. Especially, the proposed method substantially improves the content preservation performance. The BLEU score is improved from 1.64 to 22.46 and from 0.56 to 14.06 on the two datasets, respectively.
