TJ4DRadSet: A 4D Radar Dataset for Autonomous Driving

Lianqing Zheng, Zhixiong Ma, Xichan Zhu et al.

The next-generation high-resolution automotive radar (4D radar) can provide additional elevation measurement and denser point clouds, which has great potential for 3D sensing in autonomous driving. In this paper, we introduce a dataset named TJ4DRadSet with 4D radar points for autonomous driving research. The dataset was collected in various driving scenarios, with a total of 7757 synchronized frames in 44 consecutive sequences, which are well annotated with 3D bounding boxes and track ids. We provide a 4D radar-based 3D object detection baseline for our dataset to demonstrate the effectiveness of deep learning methods for 4D radar point clouds. The dataset can be accessed via the following link: https://github.com/TJRadarLab/TJ4DRadSet.

SIMPL: A Simple and Efficient Multi-agent Motion Prediction Baseline for Autonomous Driving

Lu Zhang, Peiliang Li, Sikang Liu et al.

This paper presents a Simple and effIcient Motion Prediction baseLine (SIMPL) for autonomous vehicles. Unlike conventional agent-centric methods with high accuracy but repetitive computations and scene-centric methods with compromised accuracy and generalizability, SIMPL delivers real-time, accurate motion predictions for all relevant traffic participants. To achieve improvements in both accuracy and inference speed, we propose a compact and efficient global feature fusion module that performs directed message passing in a symmetric manner, enabling the network to forecast future motion for all road users in a single feed-forward pass and mitigating accuracy loss caused by viewpoint shifting. Additionally, we investigate the continuous trajectory parameterization using Bernstein basis polynomials in trajectory decoding, allowing evaluations of states and their higher-order derivatives at any desired time point, which is valuable for downstream planning tasks. As a strong baseline, SIMPL exhibits highly competitive performance on Argoverse 1 & 2 motion forecasting benchmarks compared with other state-of-the-art methods. Furthermore, its lightweight design and low inference latency make SIMPL highly extensible and promising for real-world onboard deployment. We open-source the code at https://github.com/HKUST-Aerial-Robotics/SIMPL.

Algorithmic Recourse in Abnormal Multivariate Time Series

Xiao Han, Lu Zhang, Yongkai Wu et al.

Algorithmic recourse provides actionable recommendations to alter unfavorable predictions of machine learning models, enhancing transparency through counterfactual explanations. While significant progress has been made in algorithmic recourse for static data, such as tabular and image data, limited research explores recourse for multivariate time series, particularly for reversing abnormal time series. This paper introduces Recourse in time series Anomaly Detection (RecAD), a framework for addressing anomalies in multivariate time series using backtracking counterfactual reasoning. By modeling the causes of anomalies as external interventions on exogenous variables, RecAD predicts recourse actions to restore normal status as counterfactual explanations, where the recourse function, responsible for generating actions based on observed data, is trained using an end-to-end approach. Experiments on synthetic and real-world datasets demonstrate its effectiveness.
