Multi-scale Information Sharing and Selection Network with Boundary Attention for Polyp SegmentationXiaolu Kang, Zhuoqi Ma, Kang Liu et al.
Polyp segmentation for colonoscopy images is of vital importance in clinical practice. It can provide valuable information for colorectal cancer diagnosis and surgery. While existing methods have achieved relatively good performance, polyp segmentation still faces the following challenges: (1) Varying lighting conditions in colonoscopy and differences in polyp locations, sizes, and morphologies. (2) The indistinct boundary between polyps and surrounding tissue. To address these challenges, we propose a Multi-scale information sharing and selection network (MISNet) for polyp segmentation task. We design a Selectively Shared Fusion Module (SSFM) to enforce information sharing and active selection between low-level and high-level features, thereby enhancing model's ability to capture comprehensive information. We then design a Parallel Attention Module (PAM) to enhance model's attention to boundaries, and a Balancing Weight Module (BWM) to facilitate the continuous refinement of boundary segmentation in the bottom-up process. Experiments on five polyp segmentation datasets demonstrate that MISNet successfully improved the accuracy and clarity of segmentation result, outperforming state-of-the-art methods.

MIR-Bench: Can Your LLM Recognize Complicated Patterns via Many-Shot In-Context Reasoning?Kai Yan, Zhan Ling, Kang Liu et al.
The ability to recognize patterns from examples and apply them to new ones is a primal ability for general intelligence, and is widely studied by psychology and AI researchers. Many benchmarks have been proposed to measure such ability for Large Language Models (LLMs); however, they focus on few-shot (usually <10) setting and lack evaluation for aggregating many pieces of information from long contexts. On the other hand, the ever-growing context length of LLMs have brought forth the novel paradigm of many-shot In-Context Learning (ICL), which addresses new tasks with hundreds to thousands of examples without expensive and inefficient fine-tuning. However, many-shot evaluations often focus on classification, and popular long-context LLM tasks such as Needle-In-A-Haystack (NIAH) seldom require complicated intelligence for integrating many pieces of information. To fix the issues from both worlds, we propose MIR-Bench, the first many-shot in-context reasoning benchmark for pattern recognition that asks LLM to predict output via input-output examples from underlying functions with diverse data format. Based on MIR-Bench, we study many novel problems for many-shot in-context reasoning, and acquired many insightful findings including scaling effect, robustness, inductive vs. transductive reasoning, retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG), coding for inductive reasoning, cross-domain generalizability, etc.

Soil Image Segmentation Based on Mask R-CNNYida Chen, Kang Liu, Yi Xin et al.
The complex background in the soil image collected in the field natural environment will affect the subsequent soil image recognition based on machine vision. Segmenting the soil center area from the soil image can eliminate the influence of the complex background, which is an important preprocessing work for subsequent soil image recognition. For the first time, the deep learning method was applied to soil image segmentation, and the Mask R-CNN model was selected to complete the positioning and segmentation of soil images. Construct a soil image dataset based on the collected soil images, use the EISeg annotation tool to mark the soil area as soil, and save the annotation information; train the Mask R-CNN soil image instance segmentation model. The trained model can obtain accurate segmentation results for soil images, and can show good performance on soil images collected in different environments; the trained instance segmentation model has a loss value of 0.1999 in the training set, and the mAP of the validation set segmentation (IoU=0.5) is 0.8804, and it takes only 0.06s to complete image segmentation based on GPU acceleration, which can meet the real-time segmentation and detection of soil images in the field under natural conditions. Patch alignment manifold mattingXuelong Li, Kang Liu, Yongsheng Dong et al.
Image matting is generally modeled as a space transform from the color space to the alpha space. By estimating the alpha factor of the model, the foreground of an image can be extracted. However, there is some dimensional information redundancy in the alpha space. It usually leads to the misjudgments of some pixels near the boundary between the foreground and the background. In this paper, a manifold matting framework named Patch Alignment Manifold Matting is proposed for image matting. In particular, we first propose a part modeling of color space in the local image patch. We then perform whole alignment optimization for approximating the alpha results using subspace reconstructing error. Furthermore, we utilize Nesterov's algorithm to solve the optimization problem. Finally, we apply some manifold learning methods in the framework, and obtain several image matting methods, such as named ISOMAP matting and its derived Cascade ISOMAP matting. The experimental results reveal that the manifold matting framework and its two examples are effective when compared with several representative matting methods.
