MDP: A Generalized Framework for Text-Guided Image Editing by Manipulating the Diffusion Path

Qian Wang, Biao Zhang, Michael Birsak et al.

Image generation using diffusion can be controlled in multiple ways. In this paper, we systematically analyze the equations of modern generative diffusion networks to propose a framework, called MDP, that explains the design space of suitable manipulations. We identify 5 different manipulations, including intermediate latent, conditional embedding, cross attention maps, guidance, and predicted noise. We analyze the corresponding parameters of these manipulations and the manipulation schedule. We show that some previous editing methods fit nicely into our framework. Particularly, we identified one specific configuration as a new type of control by manipulating the predicted noise, which can perform higher-quality edits than previous work for a variety of local and global edits.

BlobGAN-3D: A Spatially-Disentangled 3D-Aware Generative Model for Indoor Scenes

Qian Wang, Yiqun Wang, Michael Birsak et al.

3D-aware image synthesis has attracted increasing interest as it models the 3D nature of our real world. However, performing realistic object-level editing of the generated images in the multi-object scenario still remains a challenge. Recently, a 2D GAN termed BlobGAN has demonstrated great multi-object editing capabilities on real-world indoor scene datasets. In this work, we propose BlobGAN-3D, which is a 3D-aware improvement of the original 2D BlobGAN. We enable explicit camera pose control while maintaining the disentanglement for individual objects in the scene by extending the 2D blobs into 3D blobs. We keep the object-level editing capabilities of BlobGAN and in addition allow flexible control over the 3D location of the objects in the scene. We test our method on real-world indoor datasets and show that our method can achieve comparable image quality compared to the 2D BlobGAN and other 3D-aware GAN baselines while being able to enable camera pose control and object-level editing in the challenging multi-object real-world scenarios.

StereoCrafter-Zero: Zero-Shot Stereo Video Generation with Noisy Restart

Jian Shi, Qian Wang, Zhenyu Li et al.

Generating high-quality stereo videos that mimic human binocular vision requires consistent depth perception and temporal coherence across frames. Despite advances in image and video synthesis using diffusion models, producing high-quality stereo videos remains a challenging task due to the difficulty of maintaining consistent temporal and spatial coherence between left and right views. We introduce StereoCrafter-Zero, a novel framework for zero-shot stereo video generation that leverages video diffusion priors without requiring paired training data. Our key innovations include a noisy restart strategy to initialize stereo-aware latent representations and an iterative refinement process that progressively harmonizes the latent space, addressing issues like temporal flickering and view inconsistencies. In addition, we propose the use of dissolved depth maps to streamline latent space operations by reducing high-frequency depth information. Our comprehensive evaluations, including quantitative metrics and user studies, demonstrate that StereoCrafter-Zero produces high-quality stereo videos with enhanced depth consistency and temporal smoothness, even when depth estimations are imperfect. Our framework is robust and adaptable across various diffusion models, setting a new benchmark for zero-shot stereo video generation and enabling more immersive visual experiences. Our code is in https://github.com/shijianjian/StereoCrafter-Zero.

InstructEdit: Improving Automatic Masks for Diffusion-based Image Editing With User Instructions

Qian Wang, Biao Zhang, Michael Birsak et al.

Recent works have explored text-guided image editing using diffusion models and generated edited images based on text prompts. However, the models struggle to accurately locate the regions to be edited and faithfully perform precise edits. In this work, we propose a framework termed InstructEdit that can do fine-grained editing based on user instructions. Our proposed framework has three components: language processor, segmenter, and image editor. The first component, the language processor, processes the user instruction using a large language model. The goal of this processing is to parse the user instruction and output prompts for the segmenter and captions for the image editor. We adopt ChatGPT and optionally BLIP2 for this step. The second component, the segmenter, uses the segmentation prompt provided by the language processor. We employ a state-of-the-art segmentation framework Grounded Segment Anything to automatically generate a high-quality mask based on the segmentation prompt. The third component, the image editor, uses the captions from the language processor and the masks from the segmenter to compute the edited image. We adopt Stable Diffusion and the mask-guided generation from DiffEdit for this purpose. Experiments show that our method outperforms previous editing methods in fine-grained editing applications where the input image contains a complex object or multiple objects. We improve the mask quality over DiffEdit and thus improve the quality of edited images. We also show that our framework can accept multiple forms of user instructions as input. We provide the code at https://github.com/QianWangX/InstructEdit.

360DVD: Controllable Panorama Video Generation with 360-Degree Video Diffusion Model

Qian Wang, Weiqi Li, Chong Mou et al. · pku

Panorama video recently attracts more interest in both study and application, courtesy of its immersive experience. Due to the expensive cost of capturing 360-degree panoramic videos, generating desirable panorama videos by prompts is urgently required. Lately, the emerging text-to-video (T2V) diffusion methods demonstrate notable effectiveness in standard video generation. However, due to the significant gap in content and motion patterns between panoramic and standard videos, these methods encounter challenges in yielding satisfactory 360-degree panoramic videos. In this paper, we propose a pipeline named 360-Degree Video Diffusion model (360DVD) for generating 360-degree panoramic videos based on the given prompts and motion conditions. Specifically, we introduce a lightweight 360-Adapter accompanied by 360 Enhancement Techniques to transform pre-trained T2V models for panorama video generation. We further propose a new panorama dataset named WEB360 consisting of panoramic video-text pairs for training 360DVD, addressing the absence of captioned panoramic video datasets. Extensive experiments demonstrate the superiority and effectiveness of 360DVD for panorama video generation. Our project page is at https://akaneqwq.github.io/360DVD/.

EditCLIP: Representation Learning for Image Editing

Qian Wang, Aleksandar Cvejic, Abdelrahman Eldesokey et al.

We introduce EditCLIP, a novel representation-learning approach for image editing. Our method learns a unified representation of edits by jointly encoding an input image and its edited counterpart, effectively capturing their transformation. To evaluate its effectiveness, we employ EditCLIP to solve two tasks: exemplar-based image editing and automated edit evaluation. In exemplar-based image editing, we replace text-based instructions in InstructPix2Pix with EditCLIP embeddings computed from a reference exemplar image pair. Experiments demonstrate that our approach outperforms state-of-the-art methods while being more efficient and versatile. For automated evaluation, EditCLIP assesses image edits by measuring the similarity between the EditCLIP embedding of a given image pair and either a textual editing instruction or the EditCLIP embedding of another reference image pair. Experiments show that EditCLIP aligns more closely with human judgments than existing CLIP-based metrics, providing a reliable measure of edit quality and structural preservation.

A Spatiotemporal Volumetric Interpolation Network for 4D Dynamic Medical Image

Yuyu Guo, Lei Bi, Euijoon Ahn et al.

Dynamic medical imaging is usually limited in application due to the large radiation doses and longer image scanning and reconstruction times. Existing methods attempt to reduce the dynamic sequence by interpolating the volumes between the acquired image volumes. However, these methods are limited to either 2D images and/or are unable to support large variations in the motion between the image volume sequences. In this paper, we present a spatiotemporal volumetric interpolation network (SVIN) designed for 4D dynamic medical images. SVIN introduces dual networks: first is the spatiotemporal motion network that leverages the 3D convolutional neural network (CNN) for unsupervised parametric volumetric registration to derive spatiotemporal motion field from two-image volumes; the second is the sequential volumetric interpolation network, which uses the derived motion field to interpolate image volumes, together with a new regression-based module to characterize the periodic motion cycles in functional organ structures. We also introduce an adaptive multi-scale architecture to capture the volumetric large anatomy motions. Experimental results demonstrated that our SVIN outperformed state-of-the-art temporal medical interpolation methods and natural video interpolation methods that have been extended to support volumetric images. Our ablation study further exemplified that our motion network was able to better represent the large functional motion compared with the state-of-the-art unsupervised medical registration methods.
