From Plate to Prevention: A Dietary Nutrient-aided Platform for Health Promotion in SingaporeKaiping Zheng, Thao Nguyen, Jesslyn Hwei Sing Chong et al.
Singapore has been striving to improve the provision of healthcare services to her people. In this course, the government has taken note of the deficiency in regulating and supervising people's nutrient intake, which is identified as a contributing factor to the development of chronic diseases. Consequently, this issue has garnered significant attention. In this paper, we share our experience in addressing this issue and attaining medical-grade nutrient intake information to benefit Singaporeans in different aspects. To this end, we develop the FoodSG platform to incubate diverse healthcare-oriented applications as a service in Singapore, taking into account their shared requirements. We further identify the profound meaning of localized food datasets and systematically clean and curate a localized Singaporean food dataset FoodSG-233. To overcome the hurdle in recognition performance brought by Singaporean multifarious food dishes, we propose to integrate supervised contrastive learning into our food recognition model FoodSG-SCL for the intrinsic capability to mine hard positive/negative samples and therefore boost the accuracy. Through a comprehensive evaluation, we present performance results of the proposed model and insights on food-related healthcare applications. The FoodSG-233 dataset has been released in https://foodlg.comp.nus.edu.sg/.

Exposing Fine-Grained Adversarial Vulnerability of Face Anti-Spoofing ModelsSonglin Yang, Wei Wang, Chenye Xu et al.
Face anti-spoofing aims to discriminate the spoofing face images (e.g., printed photos) from live ones. However, adversarial examples greatly challenge its credibility, where adding some perturbation noise can easily change the predictions. Previous works conducted adversarial attack methods to evaluate the face anti-spoofing performance without any fine-grained analysis that which model architecture or auxiliary feature is vulnerable to the adversary. To handle this problem, we propose a novel framework to expose the fine-grained adversarial vulnerability of the face anti-spoofing models, which consists of a multitask module and a semantic feature augmentation (SFA) module. The multitask module can obtain different semantic features for further evaluation, but only attacking these semantic features fails to reflect the discrimination-related vulnerability. We then design the SFA module to introduce the data distribution prior for more discrimination-related gradient directions for generating adversarial examples. Comprehensive experiments show that SFA module increases the attack success rate by nearly 40$\%$ on average. We conduct this fine-grained adversarial analysis on different annotations, geometric maps, and backbone networks (e.g., Resnet network). These fine-grained adversarial examples can be used for selecting robust backbone networks and auxiliary features. They also can be used for adversarial training, which makes it practical to further improve the accuracy and robustness of the face anti-spoofing models.

Automatic Analysis System of Calcaneus Radiograph: Rotation-Invariant Landmark Detection for Calcaneal Angle Measurement, Fracture Identification and Fracture Region SegmentationJia Guo, Yuxuan Mu, Dong Xue et al.
Calcaneus is the largest tarsal bone to withstand the daily stresses of weight-bearing. The calcaneal fracture is the most common type in the tarsal bone fractures. After a fracture is suspected, plain radiographs should be taken first. Bohler's Angle (BA) and Critical Angle of Gissane (CAG), measured by four anatomic landmarks in lateral foot radiograph, can guide fracture diagnosis and facilitate operative recovery of the fractured calcaneus. This study aims to develop an analysis system that can automatically locate four anatomic landmarks, measure BA and CAG for fracture assessment, identify fractured calcaneus, and segment fractured regions. For landmark detection, we proposed a coarse-to-fine Rotation-Invariant Regression-Voting (RIRV) landmark detection method based on regressive Multi-Layer Perceptron (MLP) and Scale Invariant Feature Transform (SIFT) patch descriptor, which solves the problem of fickle rotation of calcaneus. By implementing a novel normalization approach, the RIRV method is explicitly rotation-invariance comparing with traditional regressive methods. For fracture identification and segmentation, a convolution neural network (CNN) based on U-Net with auxiliary classification head (U-Net-CH) is designed. The input ROIs of the CNN are normalized by detected landmarks to uniform view, orientation, and scale. The advantage of this approach is the multi-task learning that combines classification and segmentation. Our system can accurately measure BA and CAG with a mean angle error of 3.8 and 6.2 respectively. For fracture identification and fracture region segmentation, our system presents good performance with an F1-score of 96.55%, recall of 94.99%, and segmentation IoU-score of 0.586.
