Diffusion Transformer meets Multi-level Wavelet Spectrum for Single Image Super-ResolutionPeng Du, Hui Li, Han Xu et al.
Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) has been widely explored to enhance the performance of image superresolution (SR). Despite some DWT-based methods improving SR by capturing fine-grained frequency signals, most existing approaches neglect the interrelations among multiscale frequency sub-bands, resulting in inconsistencies and unnatural artifacts in the reconstructed images. To address this challenge, we propose a Diffusion Transformer model based on image Wavelet spectra for SR (DTWSR). DTWSR incorporates the superiority of diffusion models and transformers to capture the interrelations among multiscale frequency sub-bands, leading to a more consistence and realistic SR image. Specifically, we use a Multi-level Discrete Wavelet Transform to decompose images into wavelet spectra. A pyramid tokenization method is proposed which embeds the spectra into a sequence of tokens for transformer model, facilitating to capture features from both spatial and frequency domain. A dual-decoder is designed elaborately to handle the distinct variances in low-frequency and high-frequency sub-bands, without omitting their alignment in image generation. Extensive experiments on multiple benchmark datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of our method, with high performance on both perception quality and fidelity.

MatchVIE: Exploiting Match Relevancy between Entities for Visual Information ExtractionGuozhi Tang, Lele Xie, Lianwen Jin et al.
Visual Information Extraction (VIE) task aims to extract key information from multifarious document images (e.g., invoices and purchase receipts). Most previous methods treat the VIE task simply as a sequence labeling problem or classification problem, which requires models to carefully identify each kind of semantics by introducing multimodal features, such as font, color, layout. But simply introducing multimodal features couldn't work well when faced with numeric semantic categories or some ambiguous texts. To address this issue, in this paper we propose a novel key-value matching model based on a graph neural network for VIE (MatchVIE). Through key-value matching based on relevancy evaluation, the proposed MatchVIE can bypass the recognitions to various semantics, and simply focuses on the strong relevancy between entities. Besides, we introduce a simple but effective operation, Num2Vec, to tackle the instability of encoded values, which helps model converge more smoothly. Comprehensive experiments demonstrate that the proposed MatchVIE can significantly outperform previous methods. Notably, to the best of our knowledge, MatchVIE may be the first attempt to tackle the VIE task by modeling the relevancy between keys and values and it is a good complement to the existing methods.

Give Me Something to Eat: Referring Expression Comprehension with Commonsense KnowledgePeng Wang, Dongyang Liu, Hui Li et al.
Conventional referring expression comprehension (REF) assumes people to query something from an image by describing its visual appearance and spatial location, but in practice, we often ask for an object by describing its affordance or other non-visual attributes, especially when we do not have a precise target. For example, sometimes we say 'Give me something to eat'. In this case, we need to use commonsense knowledge to identify the objects in the image. Unfortunately, these is no existing referring expression dataset reflecting this requirement, not to mention a model to tackle this challenge. In this paper, we collect a new referring expression dataset, called KB-Ref, containing 43k expressions on 16k images. In KB-Ref, to answer each expression (detect the target object referred by the expression), at least one piece of commonsense knowledge must be required. We then test state-of-the-art (SoTA) REF models on KB-Ref, finding that all of them present a large drop compared to their outstanding performance on general REF datasets. We also present an expression conditioned image and fact attention (ECIFA) network that extract information from correlated image regions and commonsense knowledge facts. Our method leads to a significant improvement over SoTA REF models, although there is still a gap between this strong baseline and human performance. The dataset and baseline models will be released.
