OmniObject3D: Large-Vocabulary 3D Object Dataset for Realistic Perception, Reconstruction and Generation

Tong Wu, Jiarui Zhang, Xiao Fu et al.

Recent advances in modeling 3D objects mostly rely on synthetic datasets due to the lack of large-scale realscanned 3D databases. To facilitate the development of 3D perception, reconstruction, and generation in the real world, we propose OmniObject3D, a large vocabulary 3D object dataset with massive high-quality real-scanned 3D objects. OmniObject3D has several appealing properties: 1) Large Vocabulary: It comprises 6,000 scanned objects in 190 daily categories, sharing common classes with popular 2D datasets (e.g., ImageNet and LVIS), benefiting the pursuit of generalizable 3D representations. 2) Rich Annotations: Each 3D object is captured with both 2D and 3D sensors, providing textured meshes, point clouds, multiview rendered images, and multiple real-captured videos. 3) Realistic Scans: The professional scanners support highquality object scans with precise shapes and realistic appearances. With the vast exploration space offered by OmniObject3D, we carefully set up four evaluation tracks: a) robust 3D perception, b) novel-view synthesis, c) neural surface reconstruction, and d) 3D object generation. Extensive studies are performed on these four benchmarks, revealing new observations, challenges, and opportunities for future research in realistic 3D vision.

NAS-LID: Efficient Neural Architecture Search with Local Intrinsic Dimension

Xin He, Jiangchao Yao, Yuxin Wang et al.

One-shot neural architecture search (NAS) substantially improves the search efficiency by training one supernet to estimate the performance of every possible child architecture (i.e., subnet). However, the inconsistency of characteristics among subnets incurs serious interference in the optimization, resulting in poor performance ranking correlation of subnets. Subsequent explorations decompose supernet weights via a particular criterion, e.g., gradient matching, to reduce the interference; yet they suffer from huge computational cost and low space separability. In this work, we propose a lightweight and effective local intrinsic dimension (LID)-based method NAS-LID. NAS-LID evaluates the geometrical properties of architectures by calculating the low-cost LID features layer-by-layer, and the similarity characterized by LID enjoys better separability compared with gradients, which thus effectively reduces the interference among subnets. Extensive experiments on NASBench-201 indicate that NAS-LID achieves superior performance with better efficiency. Specifically, compared to the gradient-driven method, NAS-LID can save up to 86% of GPU memory overhead when searching on NASBench-201. We also demonstrate the effectiveness of NAS-LID on ProxylessNAS and OFA spaces. Source code: https://github.com/marsggbo/NAS-LID.

Rethinking Label Smoothing on Multi-hop Question Answering

Zhangyue Yin, Yuxin Wang, Xiannian Hu et al.

Multi-Hop Question Answering (MHQA) is a significant area in question answering, requiring multiple reasoning components, including document retrieval, supporting sentence prediction, and answer span extraction. In this work, we analyze the primary factors limiting the performance of multi-hop reasoning and introduce label smoothing into the MHQA task. This is aimed at enhancing the generalization capabilities of MHQA systems and mitigating overfitting of answer spans and reasoning paths in training set. We propose a novel label smoothing technique, F1 Smoothing, which incorporates uncertainty into the learning process and is specifically tailored for Machine Reading Comprehension (MRC) tasks. Inspired by the principles of curriculum learning, we introduce the Linear Decay Label Smoothing Algorithm (LDLA), which progressively reduces uncertainty throughout the training process. Experiment on the HotpotQA dataset demonstrates the effectiveness of our methods in enhancing performance and generalizability in multi-hop reasoning, achieving new state-of-the-art results on the leaderboard.

Hierarchical and Progressive Image Matting

Yu Qiao, Yuhao Liu, Ziqi Wei et al.

Most matting researches resort to advanced semantics to achieve high-quality alpha mattes, and direct low-level features combination is usually explored to complement alpha details. However, we argue that appearance-agnostic integration can only provide biased foreground details and alpha mattes require different-level feature aggregation for better pixel-wise opacity perception. In this paper, we propose an end-to-end Hierarchical and Progressive Attention Matting Network (HAttMatting++), which can better predict the opacity of the foreground from single RGB images without additional input. Specifically, we utilize channel-wise attention to distill pyramidal features and employ spatial attention at different levels to filter appearance cues. This progressive attention mechanism can estimate alpha mattes from adaptive semantics and semantics-indicated boundaries. We also introduce a hybrid loss function fusing Structural SIMilarity (SSIM), Mean Square Error (MSE), Adversarial loss, and sentry supervision to guide the network to further improve the overall foreground structure. Besides, we construct a large-scale and challenging image matting dataset comprised of 59, 600 training images and 1000 test images (a total of 646 distinct foreground alpha mattes), which can further improve the robustness of our hierarchical and progressive aggregation model. Extensive experiments demonstrate that the proposed HAttMatting++ can capture sophisticated foreground structures and achieve state-of-the-art performance with single RGB images as input.

Progressive Glass Segmentation

Letian Yu, Haiyang Mei, Wen Dong et al.

Glass is very common in the real world. Influenced by the uncertainty about the glass region and the varying complex scenes behind the glass, the existence of glass poses severe challenges to many computer vision tasks, making glass segmentation as an important computer vision task. Glass does not have its own visual appearances but only transmit/reflect the appearances of its surroundings, making it fundamentally different from other common objects. To address such a challenging task, existing methods typically explore and combine useful cues from different levels of features in the deep network. As there exists a characteristic gap between level-different features, i.e., deep layer features embed more high-level semantics and are better at locating the target objects while shallow layer features have larger spatial sizes and keep richer and more detailed low-level information, fusing these features naively thus would lead to a sub-optimal solution. In this paper, we approach the effective features fusion towards accurate glass segmentation in two steps. First, we attempt to bridge the characteristic gap between different levels of features by developing a Discriminability Enhancement (DE) module which enables level-specific features to be a more discriminative representation, alleviating the features incompatibility for fusion. Second, we design a Focus-and-Exploration Based Fusion (FEBF) module to richly excavate useful information in the fusion process by highlighting the common and exploring the difference between level-different features.

Wider and Higher: Intensive Integration and Global Foreground Perception for Image Matting

Yu Qiao, Ziqi Wei, Yuhao Liu et al.

This paper reviews recent deep-learning-based matting research and conceives our wider and higher motivation for image matting. Many approaches achieve alpha mattes with complex encoders to extract robust semantics, then resort to the U-net-like decoder to concatenate or fuse encoder features. However, image matting is essentially a pixel-wise regression, and the ideal situation is to perceive the maximum opacity correspondence from the input image. In this paper, we argue that the high-resolution feature representation, perception and communication are more crucial for matting accuracy. Therefore, we propose an Intensive Integration and Global Foreground Perception network (I2GFP) to integrate wider and higher feature streams. Wider means we combine intensive features in each decoder stage, while higher suggests we retain high-resolution intermediate features and perceive large-scale foreground appearance. Our motivation sacrifices model depth for a significant performance promotion. We perform extensive experiments to prove the proposed I2GFP model, and state-of-the-art results can be achieved on different public datasets.

Joint Detection Algorithm for Multiple Cognitive Users in Spectrum Sensing

Fanfei Meng, Yuxin Wang, Lele Zhang et al.

Spectrum sensing technology is a crucial aspect of modern communication technology, serving as one of the essential techniques for efficiently utilizing scarce information resources in tight frequency bands. This paper first introduces three common logical circuit decision criteria in hard decisions and analyzes their decision rigor. Building upon hard decisions, the paper further introduces a method for multi-user spectrum sensing based on soft decisions. Then the paper simulates the false alarm probability and detection probability curves corresponding to the three criteria. The simulated results of multi-user collaborative sensing indicate that the simulation process significantly reduces false alarm probability and enhances detection probability. This approach effectively detects spectrum resources unoccupied during idle periods, leveraging the concept of time-division multiplexing and rationalizing the redistribution of information resources. The entire computation process relies on the calculation principles of power spectral density in communication theory, involving threshold decision detection for noise power and the sum of noise and signal power. It provides a secondary decision detection, reflecting the perceptual decision performance of logical detection methods with relative accuracy.

A Two-Stage Attentive Network for Single Image Super-Resolution

Jiqing Zhang, Chengjiang Long, Yuxin Wang et al.

Recently, deep convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have been widely explored in single image super-resolution (SISR) and contribute remarkable progress. However, most of the existing CNNs-based SISR methods do not adequately explore contextual information in the feature extraction stage and pay little attention to the final high-resolution (HR) image reconstruction step, hence hindering the desired SR performance. To address the above two issues, in this paper, we propose a two-stage attentive network (TSAN) for accurate SISR in a coarse-to-fine manner. Specifically, we design a novel multi-context attentive block (MCAB) to make the network focus on more informative contextual features. Moreover, we present an essential refined attention block (RAB) which could explore useful cues in HR space for reconstructing fine-detailed HR image. Extensive evaluations on four benchmark datasets demonstrate the efficacy of our proposed TSAN in terms of quantitative metrics and visual effects. Code is available at https://github.com/Jee-King/TSAN.

GScream: Learning 3D Geometry and Feature Consistent Gaussian Splatting for Object Removal

Yuxin Wang, Qianyi Wu, Guofeng Zhang et al.

This paper tackles the intricate challenge of object removal to update the radiance field using the 3D Gaussian Splatting. The main challenges of this task lie in the preservation of geometric consistency and the maintenance of texture coherence in the presence of the substantial discrete nature of Gaussian primitives. We introduce a robust framework specifically designed to overcome these obstacles. The key insight of our approach is the enhancement of information exchange among visible and invisible areas, facilitating content restoration in terms of both geometry and texture. Our methodology begins with optimizing the positioning of Gaussian primitives to improve geometric consistency across both removed and visible areas, guided by an online registration process informed by monocular depth estimation. Following this, we employ a novel feature propagation mechanism to bolster texture coherence, leveraging a cross-attention design that bridges sampling Gaussians from both uncertain and certain areas. This innovative approach significantly refines the texture coherence within the final radiance field. Extensive experiments validate that our method not only elevates the quality of novel view synthesis for scenes undergoing object removal but also showcases notable efficiency gains in training and rendering speeds.

RenderMe-360: A Large Digital Asset Library and Benchmarks Towards High-fidelity Head Avatars

Dongwei Pan, Long Zhuo, Jingtan Piao et al.

Synthesizing high-fidelity head avatars is a central problem for computer vision and graphics. While head avatar synthesis algorithms have advanced rapidly, the best ones still face great obstacles in real-world scenarios. One of the vital causes is inadequate datasets -- 1) current public datasets can only support researchers to explore high-fidelity head avatars in one or two task directions; 2) these datasets usually contain digital head assets with limited data volume, and narrow distribution over different attributes. In this paper, we present RenderMe-360, a comprehensive 4D human head dataset to drive advance in head avatar research. It contains massive data assets, with 243+ million complete head frames, and over 800k video sequences from 500 different identities captured by synchronized multi-view cameras at 30 FPS. It is a large-scale digital library for head avatars with three key attributes: 1) High Fidelity: all subjects are captured by 60 synchronized, high-resolution 2K cameras in 360 degrees. 2) High Diversity: The collected subjects vary from different ages, eras, ethnicities, and cultures, providing abundant materials with distinctive styles in appearance and geometry. Moreover, each subject is asked to perform various motions, such as expressions and head rotations, which further extend the richness of assets. 3) Rich Annotations: we provide annotations with different granularities: cameras' parameters, matting, scan, 2D/3D facial landmarks, FLAME fitting, and text description. Based on the dataset, we build a comprehensive benchmark for head avatar research, with 16 state-of-the-art methods performed on five main tasks: novel view synthesis, novel expression synthesis, hair rendering, hair editing, and talking head generation. Our experiments uncover the strengths and weaknesses of current methods. RenderMe-360 opens the door for future exploration in head avatars.

A Vision-based Irregular Obstacle Avoidance Framework via Deep Reinforcement Learning

Lingping Gao, Jianchuan Ding, Wenxi Liu et al.

Deep reinforcement learning has achieved great success in laser-based collision avoidance work because the laser can sense accurate depth information without too much redundant data, which can maintain the robustness of the algorithm when it is migrated from the simulation environment to the real world. However, high-cost laser devices are not only difficult to apply on a large scale but also have poor robustness to irregular objects, e.g., tables, chairs, shelves, etc. In this paper, we propose a vision-based collision avoidance framework to solve the challenging problem. Our method attempts to estimate the depth and incorporate the semantic information from RGB data to obtain a new form of data, pseudo-laser data, which combines the advantages of visual information and laser information. Compared to traditional laser data that only contains the one-dimensional distance information captured at a certain height, our proposed pseudo-laser data encodes the depth information and semantic information within the image, which makes our method more effective for irregular obstacles. Besides, we adaptively add noise to the laser data during the training stage to increase the robustness of our model in the real world, due to the estimated depth information is not accurate. Experimental results show that our framework achieves state-of-the-art performance in several unseen virtual and real-world scenarios.

Multi-domain Collaborative Feature Representation for Robust Visual Object Tracking

Jiqing Zhang, Kai Zhao, Bo Dong et al.

Jointly exploiting multiple different yet complementary domain information has been proven to be an effective way to perform robust object tracking. This paper focuses on effectively representing and utilizing complementary features from the frame domain and event domain for boosting object tracking performance in challenge scenarios. Specifically, we propose Common Features Extractor (CFE) to learn potential common representations from the RGB domain and event domain. For learning the unique features of the two domains, we utilize a Unique Extractor for Event (UEE) based on Spiking Neural Networks to extract edge cues in the event domain which may be missed in RGB in some challenging conditions, and a Unique Extractor for RGB (UER) based on Deep Convolutional Neural Networks to extract texture and semantic information in RGB domain. Extensive experiments on standard RGB benchmark and real event tracking dataset demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach. We show our approach outperforms all compared state-of-the-art tracking algorithms and verify event-based data is a powerful cue for tracking in challenging scenes.

Monocular Visual Analysis for Electronic Line Calling of Tennis Games

Yuanzhou Chen, Shaobo Cai, Yuxin Wang et al.

Electronic Line Calling is an auxiliary referee system used for tennis matches based on binocular vision technology. While ELC has been widely used, there are still many problems, such as complex installation and maintenance, high cost and etc. We propose a monocular vision technology based ELC method. The method has the following steps. First, locate the tennis ball's trajectory. We propose a multistage tennis ball positioning approach combining background subtraction and color area filtering. Then we propose a bouncing point prediction method by minimizing the fitting loss of the uncertain point. Finally, we find out whether the bouncing point of the ball is out of bounds or not according to the relative position between the bouncing point and the court side line in the two dimensional image. We collected and tagged 394 samples with an accuracy rate of 99.4%, and 81.8% of the 11 samples with bouncing points. The experimental results show that our method is feasible to judge if a ball is out of the court with monocular vision and significantly reduce complex installation and costs of ELC system with binocular vision.
