A Voxel-Based Quantum Computing Method (VBQC) for Solid Mechanics Problem

Quantum computing presents a promising method to overcome the efficiency and memory constraints in large-scale mechanical problems, with numerous successful applications demonstrated in fluid mechanics. However, solid mechanics problems usually require irregular grids for spatial discretization, due to the Lagrange formulations and complex boundaries, which makes the quantum simulation of the system matrix, e.g., the mass or stiffness matrix which is often referred to as the Hamiltonian in quantum computing, difficult to be effectively conducted. This study proposes a voxel-based quantum computing method (VBQC) for the quantum simulation of Hamiltonians in solid mechanics. VBQC applies voxel grids to discretize the spatial domain, thereby enabling the system matrix to exhibit the tridiagonal fractal property. Based on this property, the system matrix can be decomposed into three groups of fundamental matrices, $\mathbf{k}_{n}$, $\mathbf{c}_{n}$, and $\mathbf{q}_{n}$. This decomposition process is referred to as the KCQ decomposition. By integrating the KCQ decomposition with the quantum Fourier transform and the quantum multiplexer, VBQC enables efficient quantum simulation of Hamiltonians in solid mechanics. Three specific solid problems with different dimensions and numbers of variables are applied to preliminarily verify the correctness of the proposed VBQC for solid mechanics problems.

De Novo Molecular Generation via Connection-aware Motif Mining

De novo molecular generation is an essential task for science discovery. Recently, fragment-based deep generative models have attracted much research attention due to their flexibility in generating novel molecules based on existing molecule fragments. However, the motif vocabulary, i.e., the collection of frequent fragments, is usually built upon heuristic rules, which brings difficulties to capturing common substructures from large amounts of molecules. In this work, we propose a new method, MiCaM, to generate molecules based on mined connection-aware motifs. Specifically, it leverages a data-driven algorithm to automatically discover motifs from a molecule library by iteratively merging subgraphs based on their frequency. The obtained motif vocabulary consists of not only molecular motifs (i.e., the frequent fragments), but also their connection information, indicating how the motifs are connected with each other. Based on the mined connection-aware motifs, MiCaM builds a connection-aware generator, which simultaneously picks up motifs and determines how they are connected. We test our method on distribution-learning benchmarks (i.e., generating novel molecules to resemble the distribution of a given training set) and goal-directed benchmarks (i.e., generating molecules with target properties), and achieve significant improvements over previous fragment-based baselines. Furthermore, we demonstrate that our method can effectively mine domain-specific motifs for different tasks.

GET: Group Event Transformer for Event-Based Vision

Event cameras are a type of novel neuromorphic sen-sor that has been gaining increasing attention. Existing event-based backbones mainly rely on image-based designs to extract spatial information within the image transformed from events, overlooking important event properties like time and polarity. To address this issue, we propose a novel Group-based vision Transformer backbone for Event-based vision, called Group Event Transformer (GET), which de-couples temporal-polarity information from spatial infor-mation throughout the feature extraction process. Specifi-cally, we first propose a new event representation for GET, named Group Token, which groups asynchronous events based on their timestamps and polarities. Then, GET ap-plies the Event Dual Self-Attention block, and Group Token Aggregation module to facilitate effective feature commu-nication and integration in both the spatial and temporal-polarity domains. After that, GET can be integrated with different downstream tasks by connecting it with vari-ous heads. We evaluate our method on four event-based classification datasets (Cifar10-DVS, N-MNIST, N-CARS, and DVS128Gesture) and two event-based object detection datasets (1Mpx and Gen1), and the results demonstrate that GET outperforms other state-of-the-art methods. Background Activation Suppression for Weakly Supervised Object Localization and Semantic Segmentation

Weakly supervised object localization and semantic segmentation aim to localize objects using only image-level labels. Recently, a new paradigm has emerged by generating a foreground prediction map (FPM) to achieve pixel-level localization. While existing FPM-based methods use cross-entropy to evaluate the foreground prediction map and to guide the learning of the generator, this paper presents two astonishing experimental observations on the object localization learning process: For a trained network, as the foreground mask expands, 1) the cross-entropy converges to zero when the foreground mask covers only part of the object region. 2) The activation value continuously increases until the foreground mask expands to the object boundary. Therefore, to achieve a more effective localization performance, we argue for the usage of activation value to learn more object regions. In this paper, we propose a Background Activation Suppression (BAS) method. Specifically, an Activation Map Constraint (AMC) module is designed to facilitate the learning of generator by suppressing the background activation value. Meanwhile, by using foreground region guidance and area constraint, BAS can learn the whole region of the object. In the inference phase, we consider the prediction maps of different categories together to obtain the final localization results. Extensive experiments show that BAS achieves significant and consistent improvement over the baseline methods on the CUB-200-2011 and ILSVRC datasets. In addition, our method also achieves state-of-the-art weakly supervised semantic segmentation performance on the PASCAL VOC 2012 and MS COCO 2014 datasets. Learning Cut Selection for Mixed-Integer Linear Programming via Hierarchical Sequence Model

Cutting planes (cuts) are important for solving mixed-integer linear programs (MILPs), which formulate a wide range of important real-world applications. Cut selection -- which aims to select a proper subset of the candidate cuts to improve the efficiency of solving MILPs -- heavily depends on (P1) which cuts should be preferred, and (P2) how many cuts should be selected. Although many modern MILP solvers tackle (P1)-(P2) by manually designed heuristics, machine learning offers a promising approach to learn more effective heuristics from MILPs collected from specific applications. However, many existing learning-based methods focus on learning which cuts should be preferred, neglecting the importance of learning the number of cuts that should be selected. Moreover, we observe from extensive empirical results that (P3) what order of selected cuts should be preferred has a significant impact on the efficiency of solving MILPs as well. To address this challenge, we propose a novel hierarchical sequence model (HEM) to learn cut selection policies via reinforcement learning. Specifically, HEM consists of a two-level model: (1) a higher-level model to learn the number of cuts that should be selected, (2) and a lower-level model -- that formulates the cut selection task as a sequence to sequence learning problem -- to learn policies selecting an ordered subset with the size determined by the higher-level model. To the best of our knowledge, HEM is the first method that can tackle (P1)-(P3) in cut selection simultaneously from a data-driven perspective. Experiments show that HEM significantly improves the efficiency of solving MILPs compared to human-designed and learning-based baselines on both synthetic and large-scale real-world MILPs, including MIPLIB 2017. Moreover, experiments demonstrate that HEM well generalizes to MILPs that are significantly larger than those seen during training.

Compressing Deep Graph Neural Networks via Adversarial Knowledge Distillation

Deep graph neural networks (GNNs) have been shown to be expressive for modeling graph-structured data. Nevertheless, the over-stacked architecture of deep graph models makes it difficult to deploy and rapidly test on mobile or embedded systems. To compress over-stacked GNNs, knowledge distillation via a teacher-student architecture turns out to be an effective technique, where the key step is to measure the discrepancy between teacher and student networks with predefined distance functions. However, using the same distance for graphs of various structures may be unfit, and the optimal distance formulation is hard to determine. To tackle these problems, we propose a novel Adversarial Knowledge Distillation framework for graph models named GraphAKD, which adversarially trains a discriminator and a generator to adaptively detect and decrease the discrepancy. Specifically, noticing that the well-captured inter-node and inter-class correlations favor the success of deep GNNs, we propose to criticize the inherited knowledge from node-level and class-level views with a trainable discriminator. The discriminator distinguishes between teacher knowledge and what the student inherits, while the student GNN works as a generator and aims to fool the discriminator. To our best knowledge, GraphAKD is the first to introduce adversarial training to knowledge distillation in graph domains. Experiments on node-level and graph-level classification benchmarks demonstrate that GraphAKD improves the student performance by a large margin. The results imply that GraphAKD can precisely transfer knowledge from a complicated teacher GNN to a compact student GNN.

HIPA: Hierarchical Patch Transformer for Single Image Super Resolution

Transformer-based architectures start to emerge in single image super resolution (SISR) and have achieved promising performance. Most existing Vision Transformers divide images into the same number of patches with a fixed size, which may not be optimal for restoring patches with different levels of texture richness. This paper presents HIPA, a novel Transformer architecture that progressively recovers the high resolution image using a hierarchical patch partition. Specifically, we build a cascaded model that processes an input image in multiple stages, where we start with tokens with small patch sizes and gradually merge to the full resolution. Such a hierarchical patch mechanism not only explicitly enables feature aggregation at multiple resolutions but also adaptively learns patch-aware features for different image regions, e.g., using a smaller patch for areas with fine details and a larger patch for textureless regions. Meanwhile, a new attention-based position encoding scheme for Transformer is proposed to let the network focus on which tokens should be paid more attention by assigning different weights to different tokens, which is the first time to our best knowledge. Furthermore, we also propose a new multi-reception field attention module to enlarge the convolution reception field from different branches. The experimental results on several public datasets demonstrate the superior performance of the proposed HIPA over previous methods quantitatively and qualitatively.

Label Deconvolution for Node Representation Learning on Large-scale Attributed Graphs against Learning Bias

Node representation learning on attributed graphs -- whose nodes are associated with rich attributes (e.g., texts and protein sequences) -- plays a crucial role in many important downstream tasks. To encode the attributes and graph structures simultaneously, recent studies integrate pre-trained models with graph neural networks (GNNs), where pre-trained models serve as node encoders (NEs) to encode the attributes. As jointly training large NEs and GNNs on large-scale graphs suffers from severe scalability issues, many methods propose to train NEs and GNNs separately. Consequently, they do not take feature convolutions in GNNs into consideration in the training phase of NEs, leading to a significant learning bias relative to the joint training. To address this challenge, we propose an efficient label regularization technique, namely Label Deconvolution (LD), to alleviate the learning bias by a novel and highly scalable approximation to the inverse mapping of GNNs. The inverse mapping leads to an objective function that is equivalent to that by the joint training, while it can effectively incorporate GNNs in the training phase of NEs against the learning bias. More importantly, we show that LD converges to the optimal objective function values by the joint training under mild assumptions. Experiments demonstrate LD significantly outperforms state-of-the-art methods on Open Graph Benchmark datasets.

Learning Task-relevant Representations for Generalization via Characteristic Functions of Reward Sequence Distributions

Generalization across different environments with the same tasks is critical for successful applications of visual reinforcement learning (RL) in real scenarios. However, visual distractions -- which are common in real scenes -- from high-dimensional observations can be hurtful to the learned representations in visual RL, thus degrading the performance of generalization. To tackle this problem, we propose a novel approach, namely Characteristic Reward Sequence Prediction (CRESP), to extract the task-relevant information by learning reward sequence distributions (RSDs), as the reward signals are task-relevant in RL and invariant to visual distractions. Specifically, to effectively capture the task-relevant information via RSDs, CRESP introduces an auxiliary task -- that is, predicting the characteristic functions of RSDs -- to learn task-relevant representations, because we can well approximate the high-dimensional distributions by leveraging the corresponding characteristic functions. Experiments demonstrate that CRESP significantly improves the performance of generalization on unseen environments, outperforming several state-of-the-arts on DeepMind Control tasks with different visual distractions.

ProgressiveMotionSeg: Mutually Reinforced Framework for Event-Based Motion Segmentation

Dynamic Vision Sensor (DVS) can asynchronously output the events reflecting apparent motion of objects with microsecond resolution, and shows great application potential in monitoring and other fields. However, the output event stream of existing DVS inevitably contains background activity noise (BA noise) due to dark current and junction leakage current, which will affect the temporal correlation of objects, resulting in deteriorated motion estimation performance. Particularly, the existing filter-based denoising methods cannot be directly applied to suppress the noise in event stream, since there is no spatial correlation. To address this issue, this paper presents a novel progressive framework, in which a Motion Estimation (ME) module and an Event Denoising (ED) module are jointly optimized in a mutually reinforced manner. Specifically, based on the maximum sharpness criterion, ME module divides the input event into several segments by adaptive clustering in a motion compensating warp field, and captures the temporal correlation of event stream according to the clustered motion parameters. Taking temporal correlation as guidance, ED module calculates the confidence that each event belongs to real activity events, and transmits it to ME module to update energy function of motion segmentation for noise suppression. The two steps are iteratively updated until stable motion segmentation results are obtained. Extensive experimental results on both synthetic and real datasets demonstrate the superiority of our proposed approaches against the State-Of-The-Art (SOTA) methods.

Model-Guided Multi-Contrast Deep Unfolding Network for MRI Super-resolution Reconstruction

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with high resolution (HR) provides more detailed information for accurate diagnosis and quantitative image analysis. Despite the significant advances, most existing super-resolution (SR) reconstruction network for medical images has two flaws: 1) All of them are designed in a black-box principle, thus lacking sufficient interpretability and further limiting their practical applications. Interpretable neural network models are of significant interest since they enhance the trustworthiness required in clinical practice when dealing with medical images. 2) most existing SR reconstruction approaches only use a single contrast or use a simple multi-contrast fusion mechanism, neglecting the complex relationships between different contrasts that are critical for SR improvement. To deal with these issues, in this paper, a novel Model-Guided interpretable Deep Unfolding Network (MGDUN) for medical image SR reconstruction is proposed. The Model-Guided image SR reconstruction approach solves manually designed objective functions to reconstruct HR MRI. We show how to unfold an iterative MGDUN algorithm into a novel model-guided deep unfolding network by taking the MRI observation matrix and explicit multi-contrast relationship matrix into account during the end-to-end optimization. Extensive experiments on the multi-contrast IXI dataset and BraTs 2019 dataset demonstrate the superiority of our proposed model.

Duality-Induced Regularizer for Semantic Matching Knowledge Graph Embeddings

Semantic matching models -- which assume that entities with similar semantics have similar embeddings -- have shown great power in knowledge graph embeddings (KGE). Many existing semantic matching models use inner products in embedding spaces to measure the plausibility of triples and quadruples in static and temporal knowledge graphs. However, vectors that have the same inner products with another vector can still be orthogonal to each other, which implies that entities with similar semantics may have dissimilar embeddings. This property of inner products significantly limits the performance of semantic matching models. To address this challenge, we propose a novel regularizer -- namely, DUality-induced RegulArizer (DURA) -- which effectively encourages the entities with similar semantics to have similar embeddings. The major novelty of DURA is based on the observation that, for an existing semantic matching KGE model (primal), there is often another distance based KGE model (dual) closely associated with it, which can be used as effective constraints for entity embeddings. Experiments demonstrate that DURA consistently and significantly improves the performance of state-of-the-art semantic matching models on both static and temporal knowledge graph benchmarks.

State Sequences Prediction via Fourier Transform for Representation Learning

While deep reinforcement learning (RL) has been demonstrated effective in solving complex control tasks, sample efficiency remains a key challenge due to the large amounts of data required for remarkable performance. Existing research explores the application of representation learning for data-efficient RL, e.g., learning predictive representations by predicting long-term future states. However, many existing methods do not fully exploit the structural information inherent in sequential state signals, which can potentially improve the quality of long-term decision-making but is difficult to discern in the time domain. To tackle this problem, we propose State Sequences Prediction via Fourier Transform (SPF), a novel method that exploits the frequency domain of state sequences to extract the underlying patterns in time series data for learning expressive representations efficiently. Specifically, we theoretically analyze the existence of structural information in state sequences, which is closely related to policy performance and signal regularity, and then propose to predict the Fourier transform of infinite-step future state sequences to extract such information. One of the appealing features of SPF is that it is simple to implement while not requiring storage of infinite-step future states as prediction targets. Experiments demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms several state-of-the-art algorithms in terms of both sample efficiency and performance.

Accelerate Presolve in Large-Scale Linear Programming via Reinforcement Learning

Large-scale LP problems from industry usually contain much redundancy that severely hurts the efficiency and reliability of solving LPs, making presolve (i.e., the problem simplification module) one of the most critical components in modern LP solvers. However, how to design high-quality presolve routines -- that is, the program determining (P1) which presolvers to select, (P2) in what order to execute, and (P3) when to stop -- remains a highly challenging task due to the extensive requirements on expert knowledge and the large search space. Due to the sequential decision property of the task and the lack of expert demonstrations, we propose a simple and efficient reinforcement learning (RL) framework -- namely, reinforcement learning for presolve (RL4Presolve) -- to tackle (P1)-(P3) simultaneously. Specifically, we formulate the routine design task as a Markov decision process and propose an RL framework with adaptive action sequences to generate high-quality presolve routines efficiently. Note that adaptive action sequences help learn complex behaviors efficiently and adapt to various benchmarks. Experiments on two solvers (open-source and commercial) and eight benchmarks (real-world and synthetic) demonstrate that RL4Presolve significantly and consistently improves the efficiency of solving large-scale LPs, especially on benchmarks from industry. Furthermore, we optimize the hard-coded presolve routines in LP solvers by extracting rules from learned policies for simple and efficient deployment to Huawei's supply chain. The results show encouraging economic and academic potential for incorporating machine learning to modern solvers.

DocMAE: Document Image Rectification via Self-supervised Representation Learning

Tremendous efforts have been made on document image rectification, but how to learn effective representation of such distorted images is still under-explored. In this paper, we present DocMAE, a novel self-supervised framework for document image rectification. Our motivation is to encode the structural cues in document images by leveraging masked autoencoder to benefit the rectification, i.e., the document boundaries, and text lines. Specifically, we first mask random patches of the background-excluded document images and then reconstruct the missing pixels. With such a self-supervised learning approach, the network is encouraged to learn the intrinsic structure of deformed documents by restoring document boundaries and missing text lines. Transfer performance in the downstream rectification task validates the effectiveness of our method. Extensive experiments are conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness of our method.

Modeling Diverse Chemical Reactions for Single-step Retrosynthesis via Discrete Latent Variables

Single-step retrosynthesis is the cornerstone of retrosynthesis planning, which is a crucial task for computer-aided drug discovery. The goal of single-step retrosynthesis is to identify the possible reactants that lead to the synthesis of the target product in one reaction. By representing organic molecules as canonical strings, existing sequence-based retrosynthetic methods treat the product-to-reactant retrosynthesis as a sequence-to-sequence translation problem. However, most of them struggle to identify diverse chemical reactions for a desired product due to the deterministic inference, which contradicts the fact that many compounds can be synthesized through various reaction types with different sets of reactants. In this work, we aim to increase reaction diversity and generate various reactants using discrete latent variables. We propose a novel sequence-based approach, namely RetroDVCAE, which incorporates conditional variational autoencoders into single-step retrosynthesis and associates discrete latent variables with the generation process. Specifically, RetroDVCAE uses the Gumbel-Softmax distribution to approximate the categorical distribution over potential reactions and generates multiple sets of reactants with the variational decoder. Experiments demonstrate that RetroDVCAE outperforms state-of-the-art baselines on both benchmark dataset and homemade dataset. Both quantitative and qualitative results show that RetroDVCAE can model the multi-modal distribution over reaction types and produce diverse reactant candidates.

Generalization in Visual Reinforcement Learning with the Reward Sequence Distribution

Generalization in partially observed markov decision processes (POMDPs) is critical for successful applications of visual reinforcement learning (VRL) in real scenarios. A widely used idea is to learn task-relevant representations that encode task-relevant information of common features in POMDPs, i.e., rewards and transition dynamics. As transition dynamics in the latent state space -- which are task-relevant and invariant to visual distractions -- are unknown to the agents, existing methods alternatively use transition dynamics in the observation space to extract task-relevant information in transition dynamics. However, such transition dynamics in the observation space involve task-irrelevant visual distractions, degrading the generalization performance of VRL methods. To tackle this problem, we propose the reward sequence distribution conditioned on the starting observation and the predefined subsequent action sequence (RSD-OA). The appealing features of RSD-OA include that: (1) RSD-OA is invariant to visual distractions, as it is conditioned on the predefined subsequent action sequence without task-irrelevant information from transition dynamics, and (2) the reward sequence captures long-term task-relevant information in both rewards and transition dynamics. Experiments demonstrate that our representation learning approach based on RSD-OA significantly improves the generalization performance on unseen environments, outperforming several state-of-the-arts on DeepMind Control tasks with visual distractions.

Adaptive Spot-Guided Transformer for Consistent Local Feature Matching

Local feature matching aims at finding correspondences between a pair of images. Although current detector-free methods leverage Transformer architecture to obtain an impressive performance, few works consider maintaining local consistency. Meanwhile, most methods struggle with large scale variations. To deal with the above issues, we propose Adaptive Spot-Guided Transformer (ASTR) for local feature matching, which jointly models the local consistency and scale variations in a unified coarse-to-fine architecture. The proposed ASTR enjoys several merits. First, we design a spot-guided aggregation module to avoid interfering with irrelevant areas during feature aggregation. Second, we design an adaptive scaling module to adjust the size of grids according to the calculated depth information at fine stage. Extensive experimental results on five standard benchmarks demonstrate that our ASTR performs favorably against state-of-the-art methods. Our code will be released on https://astr2023.github.io.

Exploiting Global Semantic Similarities in Knowledge Graphs by Relational Prototype Entities

Knowledge graph (KG) embedding aims at learning the latent representations for entities and relations of a KG in continuous vector spaces. An empirical observation is that the head (tail) entities connected by the same relation often share similar semantic attributes -- specifically, they often belong to the same category -- no matter how far away they are from each other in the KG; that is, they share global semantic similarities. However, many existing methods derive KG embeddings based on the local information, which fail to effectively capture such global semantic similarities among entities. To address this challenge, we propose a novel approach, which introduces a set of virtual nodes called \textit{\textbf{relational prototype entities}} to represent the prototypes of the head and tail entities connected by the same relations. By enforcing the entities' embeddings close to their associated prototypes' embeddings, our approach can effectively encourage the global semantic similarities of entities -- that can be far away in the KG -- connected by the same relation. Experiments on the entity alignment and KG completion tasks demonstrate that our approach significantly outperforms recent state-of-the-arts.

Autothrottle: A Practical Bi-Level Approach to Resource Management for SLO-Targeted Microservices

Achieving resource efficiency while preserving end-user experience is non-trivial for cloud application operators. As cloud applications progressively adopt microservices, resource managers are faced with two distinct levels of system behavior: end-to-end application latency and per-service resource usage. Translating between the two levels, however, is challenging because user requests traverse heterogeneous services that collectively (but unevenly) contribute to the end-to-end latency. We present Autothrottle, a bi-level resource management framework for microservices with latency SLOs (service-level objectives). It architecturally decouples application SLO feedback from service resource control, and bridges them through the notion of performance targets. Specifically, an application-wide learning-based controller is employed to periodically set performance targets -- expressed as CPU throttle ratios -- for per-service heuristic controllers to attain. We evaluate Autothrottle on three microservice applications, with workload traces from production scenarios. USTC-TD: A Test Dataset and Benchmark for Image and Video Coding in 2020s

Image/video coding has been a remarkable research area for both academia and industry for many years. Testing datasets, especially high-quality image/video datasets are desirable for the justified evaluation of coding-related research, practical applications, and standardization activities. We put forward a test dataset namely USTC-TD, which has been successfully adopted in the practical end-to-end image/video coding challenge of the IEEE International Conference on Visual Communications and Image Processing (VCIP) in 2022 and 2023. USTC-TD contains 40 images at 4K spatial resolution and 10 video sequences at 1080p spatial resolution, featuring various content due to the diverse environmental factors (e.g. scene type, texture, motion, view) and the designed imaging factors (e.g. illumination, lens, shadow). We quantitatively evaluate USTC-TD on different image/video features (spatial, temporal, color, lightness), and compare it with the previous image/video test datasets, which verifies its excellent compensation for the shortcomings of existing datasets. We also evaluate both classic standardized and recently learned image/video coding schemes on USTC-TD using objective quality metrics (PSNR, MS-SSIM, VMAF) and subjective quality metric (MOS), providing an extensive benchmark for these evaluated schemes. Based on the characteristics and specific design of the proposed test dataset, we analyze the benchmark performance and shed light on the future research and development of image/video coding. TVRN: Invertible Neural Networks for Compression-Aware Temporal Video Rescaling

To fit diverse display and bandwidth constraints, high-frame-rate videos are temporally downscaled to low-frame-rate (LFR) and later upscaled, requiring joint optimization for effective frame-rate rescaling. However, existing methods typically link the two operations via training objectives, without fully exploiting their reciprocal nature, which may cause high-frequency information loss. Moreover, they overlook the impact of lossy codecs on LFR videos, limiting real-world applicability. In this work, we propose an end-to-end framework for compression-aware frame-rate rescaling, named TVRN. To regularize high-frequency information lost during frame-rate downscaling, TVRN adopts an invertible architecture that combines a Multi-Input Multi-Output Temporal Wavelet Transform with a high-frequency reconstruction module. To enable end-to-end training through non-differentiable lossy codecs, we design a surrogate network that approximates their gradients. Finally, to improve robustness under various compression levels, we extend TVRN to an asymmetric architecture by incorporating compression-aware features learned via a learning-to-rank strategy. Extensive experiments show that TVRN outperforms existing methods in reconstruction quality under industrial video compression settings. TeleGate: Whole-Body Humanoid Teleoperation via Gated Expert Selection with Motion Prior

Real-time whole-body teleoperation is a critical method for humanoid robots to perform complex tasks in unstructured environments. However, developing a unified controller that robustly supports diverse human motions remains a significant challenge. Existing methods typically distill multiple expert policies into a single general policy, which often inevitably leads to performance degradation, particularly on highly dynamic motions. This paper presents TeleGate, a unified whole-body teleoperation framework for humanoid robots that achieves high-precision tracking across various motions while avoiding the performance loss inherent in knowledge distillation. Our key idea is to preserve the full capability of domain-specific expert policies by training a lightweight gating network, which dynamically activates experts in real-time based on proprioceptive states and reference trajectories. Furthermore, to compensate for the absence of future reference trajectories in real-time teleoperation, we introduce a VAE-based motion prior module that extracts implicit future motion intent from historical observations, enabling anticipatory control for motions requiring prediction such as jumping and standing up. We conducted empirical evaluations in simulation and also deployed our technique on the Unitree G1 humanoid robot. Using only 2.5 hours of motion capture data for training, our TeleGate achieves high-precision real-time teleoperation across diverse dynamic motions (e.g., running, fall recovery, and jumping), significantly outperforming the baseline methods in both tracking accuracy and success rate.

Provably Convergent Subgraph-wise Sampling for Fast GNN Training

Subgraph-wise sampling -- a promising class of mini-batch training techniques for graph neural networks (GNNs -- is critical for real-world applications. During the message passing (MP) in GNNs, subgraph-wise sampling methods discard messages outside the mini-batches in backward passes to avoid the well-known neighbor explosion problem, i.e., the exponentially increasing dependencies of nodes with the number of MP iterations. However, discarding messages may sacrifice the gradient estimation accuracy, posing significant challenges to their convergence analysis and convergence speeds. To address this challenge, we propose a novel subgraph-wise sampling method with a convergence guarantee, namely Local Message Compensation (LMC). To the best of our knowledge, LMC is the first subgraph-wise sampling method with provable convergence. The key idea is to retrieve the discarded messages in backward passes based on a message passing formulation of backward passes. By efficient and effective compensations for the discarded messages in both forward and backward passes, LMC computes accurate mini-batch gradients and thus accelerates convergence. Moreover, LMC is applicable to various MP-based GNN architectures, including convolutional GNNs (finite message passing iterations with different layers) and recurrent GNNs (infinite message passing iterations with a shared layer). Experiments on large-scale benchmarks demonstrate that LMC is significantly faster than state-of-the-art subgraph-wise sampling methods.

Self-Adaptive Label Augmentation for Semi-supervised Few-shot Classification

Few-shot classification aims to learn a model that can generalize well to new tasks when only a few labeled samples are available. To make use of unlabeled data that are more abundantly available in real applications, Ren et al. \shortcite{ren2018meta} propose a semi-supervised few-shot classification method that assigns an appropriate label to each unlabeled sample by a manually defined metric. However, the manually defined metric fails to capture the intrinsic property in data. In this paper, we propose a \textbf{S}elf-\textbf{A}daptive \textbf{L}abel \textbf{A}ugmentation approach, called \textbf{SALA}, for semi-supervised few-shot classification. A major novelty of SALA is the task-adaptive metric, which can learn the metric adaptively for different tasks in an end-to-end fashion. Another appealing feature of SALA is a progressive neighbor selection strategy, which selects unlabeled data with high confidence progressively through the training phase. Experiments demonstrate that SALA outperforms several state-of-the-art methods for semi-supervised few-shot classification on benchmark datasets.

A Deep Instance Generative Framework for MILP Solvers Under Limited Data Availability

In the past few years, there has been an explosive surge in the use of machine learning (ML) techniques to address combinatorial optimization (CO) problems, especially mixed-integer linear programs (MILPs). Despite the achievements, the limited availability of real-world instances often leads to sub-optimal decisions and biased solver assessments, which motivates a suite of synthetic MILP instance generation techniques. However, existing methods either rely heavily on expert-designed formulations or struggle to capture the rich features of real-world instances. To tackle this problem, we propose G2MILP, the first deep generative framework for MILP instances. Specifically, G2MILP represents MILP instances as bipartite graphs, and applies a masked variational autoencoder to iteratively corrupt and replace parts of the original graphs to generate new ones. The appealing feature of G2MILP is that it can learn to generate novel and realistic MILP instances without prior expert-designed formulations, while preserving the structures and computational hardness of real-world datasets, simultaneously. Thus the generated instances can facilitate downstream tasks for enhancing MILP solvers under limited data availability. We design a suite of benchmarks to evaluate the quality of the generated MILP instances. Experiments demonstrate that our method can produce instances that closely resemble real-world datasets in terms of both structures and computational hardness. A Circuit Domain Generalization Framework for Efficient Logic Synthesis in Chip Design

Logic Synthesis (LS) plays a vital role in chip design -- a cornerstone of the semiconductor industry. A key task in LS is to transform circuits -- modeled by directed acyclic graphs (DAGs) -- into simplified circuits with equivalent functionalities. To tackle this task, many LS operators apply transformations to subgraphs -- rooted at each node on an input DAG -- sequentially. However, we found that a large number of transformations are ineffective, which makes applying these operators highly time-consuming. In particular, we notice that the runtime of the Resub and Mfs2 operators often dominates the overall runtime of LS optimization processes. To address this challenge, we propose a novel data-driven LS operator paradigm, namely PruneX, to reduce ineffective transformations. The major challenge of developing PruneX is to learn models that well generalize to unseen circuits, i.e., the out-of-distribution (OOD) generalization problem. Thus, the major technical contribution of PruneX is the novel circuit domain generalization framework, which learns domain-invariant representations based on the transformation-invariant domain-knowledge. To the best of our knowledge, PruneX is the first approach to tackle the OOD problem in LS operators. We integrate PruneX with the aforementioned Resub and Mfs2 operators. Experiments demonstrate that PruneX significantly improves their efficiency while keeping comparable optimization performance on industrial and very large-scale circuits, achieving up to $3.1\times$ faster runtime.

Benchmarking End-To-End Performance of AI-Based Chip Placement Algorithms

The increasing complexity of modern very-large-scale integration (VLSI) design highlights the significance of Electronic Design Automation (EDA) technologies. Chip placement is a critical step in the EDA workflow, which positions chip modules on the canvas with the goal of optimizing performance, power, and area (PPA) metrics of final chip designs. Recent advances have demonstrated the great potential of AI-based algorithms in enhancing chip placement. However, due to the lengthy workflow of chip design, the evaluations of these algorithms often focus on intermediate surrogate metrics, which are easy to compute but frequently reveal a substantial misalignment with the end-to-end performance (i.e., the final design PPA). To address this challenge, we introduce ChiPBench, which can effectively facilitate research in chip placement within the AI community. ChiPBench is a comprehensive benchmark specifically designed to evaluate the effectiveness of existing AI-based chip placement algorithms in improving final design PPA metrics. Specifically, we have gathered 20 circuits from various domains (e.g., CPU, GPU, and microcontrollers). These designs are compiled by executing the workflow from the verilog source code, which preserves necessary physical implementation kits, enabling evaluations for the placement algorithms on their impacts on the final design PPA. We executed six state-of-the-art AI-based chip placement algorithms on these designs and plugged the results of each single-point algorithm into the physical implementation workflow to obtain the final PPA results. Experimental results show that even if intermediate metric of a single-point algorithm is dominant, while the final PPA results are unsatisfactory. We believe that our benchmark will serve as an effective evaluation framework to bridge the gap between academia and industry.

Promoting Generalization for Exact Solvers via Adversarial Instance Augmentation

Machine learning has been successfully applied to improve the efficiency of Mixed-Integer Linear Programming (MILP) solvers. However, the learning-based solvers often suffer from severe performance degradation on unseen MILP instances -- especially on large-scale instances from a perturbed environment -- due to the limited diversity of training distributions. To tackle this problem, we propose a novel approach, which is called Adversarial Instance Augmentation and does not require to know the problem type for new instance generation, to promote data diversity for learning-based branching modules in the branch-and-bound (B&B) Solvers (AdaSolver). We use the bipartite graph representations for MILP instances and obtain various perturbed instances to regularize the solver by augmenting the graph structures with a learned augmentation policy. The major technical contribution of AdaSolver is that we formulate the non-differentiable instance augmentation as a contextual bandit problem and adversarially train the learning-based solver and augmentation policy, enabling efficient gradient-based training of the augmentation policy. To the best of our knowledge, AdaSolver is the first general and effective framework for understanding and improving the generalization of both imitation-learning-based (IL-based) and reinforcement-learning-based (RL-based) B&B solvers. Extensive experiments demonstrate that by producing various augmented instances, AdaSolver leads to a remarkable efficiency improvement across various distributions.

PyramidDrop: Accelerating Your Large Vision-Language Models via Pyramid Visual Redundancy Reduction

In large vision-language models (LVLMs), images serve as inputs that carry a wealth of information. As the idiom "A picture is worth a thousand words" implies, representing a single image in current LVLMs can require hundreds or even thousands of tokens. This results in significant computational costs, which grow quadratically as input image resolution increases, thereby severely impacting the efficiency of both training and inference. Previous approaches have attempted to reduce the number of image tokens either before or within the early layers of LVLMs. However, these strategies inevitably result in the loss of crucial image information, ultimately diminishing model performance. To address this challenge, we conduct an empirical study revealing that all visual tokens are necessary for LVLMs in the shallow layers, and token redundancy progressively increases in the deeper layers of the model. To this end, we propose PyramidDrop, a visual redundancy reduction strategy for LVLMs to boost their efficiency in both training and inference with neglectable performance loss. Specifically, we partition the LVLM into several stages and drop part of the image tokens at the end of each stage with a pre-defined ratio, creating pyramid-like visual tokens across model layers. The dropping is based on a lightweight similarity calculation with a negligible time overhead. Extensive experiments demonstrate that PyramidDrop can achieve a 40% training time and 55% inference FLOPs acceleration of LLaVA-NeXT with comparable performance. Besides, the PyramidDrop could also serve as a plug-and-play strategy for inference acceleration without training, with better performance and lower inference cost than counterparts. Cross-Modal Alignment via Variational Copula Modelling

Various data modalities are common in real-world applications (e.g., electronic health records, medical images and clinical notes in healthcare). It is essential to develop multimodal learning methods to aggregate various information from multiple modalities. The main challenge is how to appropriately align and fuse the representations of different modalities into a joint distribution. Existing methods mainly rely on concatenation or the Kronecker product, oversimplifying the interaction structure between modalities and indicating a need to model more complex interactions. Additionally, the joint distribution of latent representations with higher-order interactions is underexplored. Copula is a powerful statistical structure for modelling the interactions among variables, as it naturally bridges the joint distribution and marginal distributions of multiple variables. We propose a novel copula-driven multimodal learning framework, which focuses on learning the joint distribution of various modalities to capture the complex interactions among them. The key idea is to interpret the copula model as a tool to align the marginal distributions of the modalities efficiently. By assuming a Gaussian mixture distribution for each modality and a copula model on the joint distribution, our model can generate accurate representations for missing modalities. Learning Complete Topology-Aware Correlations Between Relations for Inductive Link Prediction

Inductive link prediction -- where entities during training and inference stages can be different -- has shown great potential for completing evolving knowledge graphs in an entity-independent manner. Many popular methods mainly focus on modeling graph-level features, while the edge-level interactions -- especially the semantic correlations between relations -- have been less explored. However, we notice a desirable property of semantic correlations between relations is that they are inherently edge-level and entity-independent. This implies the great potential of the semantic correlations for the entity-independent inductive link prediction task. Inspired by this observation, we propose a novel subgraph-based method, namely TACO, to model Topology-Aware COrrelations between relations that are highly correlated to their topological structures within subgraphs. Specifically, we prove that semantic correlations between any two relations can be categorized into seven topological patterns, and then proposes Relational Correlation Network (RCN) to learn the importance of each pattern. To further exploit the potential of RCN, we propose Complete Common Neighbor induced subgraph that can effectively preserve complete topological patterns within the subgraph. Extensive experiments demonstrate that TACO effectively unifies the graph-level information and edge-level interactions to jointly perform reasoning, leading to a superior performance over existing state-of-the-art methods for the inductive link prediction task.

Ellipsoid Control: A White-list Jailbreak Defense via Benign Latent Modeling

Representation engineering (RepE) defenses have shown strong robustness against jailbreak attacks on large language models (LLMs). However, these methods fundamentally rely on black-list supervision: they learn jailbreak-to-refusal activation transformations from harmful or jailbreak data that are inherently incomplete and continuously evolving. Hence, the performance of RepE-based defenses becomes tightly coupled to the quality and coverage of collected harmful samples, leaving models vulnerable to unseen attacks. This reliance also obscures the distinction between defenses that fit known harmful distributions and defenses that protect a benign latent region without estimating the harmful distribution. We adopt the opposite, the white-list perspective, by leveraging the accessibility and abundance of benign data. The goal is to elicit refusal on arbitrary inputs while ensuring that harmless inputs are not falsely rejected. This shifts the core research question to: How can we design a robust benign-latent preservation mechanism such that the benign latent distribution remains intact while refusal is elicited? To answer this, we propose Ellipsoid Control, a test-time defense. It performs projected gradient descent that can elicit refusal on arbitrary inputs, aiming to improve defense effectiveness. At the same time, an anisotropic benign-geometry ellipsoid is fitted from abundant benign data to constrain the update to minimize distortion of the benign latent geometry. This tight constraint helps preserve model utility. Across multiple LLMs, jailbreak attacks, benign tasks, and safety-boundary evaluations, Ellipsoid Control consistently enhances safety while better preserving utility, demonstrating the effectiveness of the white-list approach for jailbreak defense

Steering Beyond the Support: Adversarial Training on Unsupervised Jailbroken Activation Simulation

Jailbreak prompts can trigger harmful completions on aligned LLMs, In accordance, safety steering has been proposed: test-time activation interventions that steer jailbreak activations to trigger refusal while preserving benign utility. However, existing steering methods are fundamentally supervised and tied to a static, limited training set, whereas real jailbreaks evolve and are often out-of-distributed from the training set, leading to failures on unseen attacks. In this paper, we tackle the failure on unseen jailbreaks problem, base on unsupervised latent direction discovery. We propose a bi-level adversarial training framework for zero-shot jailbreak defense. In the inner step, we simulate diverse jail-broken activations by extrapolating from refusal-state harmful-request activations via unsupervised latent direction discovery, which expands the coverage of real jailbreak activation subspaces. In the outer step, we train a potential-induced steering field to push these adversarial jailbroken states into refusal regions while keeping benign unchanged. Across three LLMs and six classical jailbreak families, our method achieves strong defense with attack success rates mostly below 5%, and rising subspace coverage throughout training helps explain the improved generalization.

Uniformly Accelerated Motion Model for Inter Prediction

Inter prediction is a key technology to reduce the temporal redundancy in video coding. In natural videos, there are usually multiple moving objects with variable velocity, resulting in complex motion fields that are difficult to represent compactly. In Versatile Video Coding (VVC), existing inter prediction methods usually assume uniform speed motion between consecutive frames and use the linear models for motion estimation (ME) and motion compensation (MC), which may not well handle the complex motion fields in the real world. To address these issues, we introduce a uniformly accelerated motion model (UAMM) to exploit motion-related elements (velocity, acceleration) of moving objects between the video frames, and further combine them to assist the inter prediction methods to handle the variable motion in the temporal domain. Specifically, first, the theory of UAMM is mentioned. Second, based on that, we propose the UAMM-based parameter derivation and extrapolation schemes in the coding process. Third, we integrate the UAMM into existing inter prediction modes (Merge, MMVD, CIIP) to achieve higher prediction accuracy. The proposed method is implemented into the VVC reference software, VTM version 12.0. Experimental results show that the proposed method achieves up to 0.38% and on average 0.13% BD-rate reduction compared to the VTM anchor, under the Low-delay P configuration, with a slight increase of time complexity on the encoding/decoding side.

Automatic Reward Design via Learning Motivation-Consistent Intrinsic Rewards

Reward design is a critical part of the application of reinforcement learning, the performance of which strongly depends on how well the reward signal frames the goal of the designer and how well the signal assesses progress in reaching that goal. In many cases, the extrinsic rewards provided by the environment (e.g., win or loss of a game) are very sparse and make it difficult to train agents directly. Researchers usually assist the learning of agents by adding some auxiliary rewards in practice. However, designing auxiliary rewards is often turned to a trial-and-error search for reward settings that produces acceptable results. In this paper, we propose to automatically generate goal-consistent intrinsic rewards for the agent to learn, by maximizing which the expected accumulative extrinsic rewards can be maximized. To this end, we introduce the concept of motivation which captures the underlying goal of maximizing certain rewards and propose the motivation based reward design method. The basic idea is to shape the intrinsic rewards by minimizing the distance between the intrinsic and extrinsic motivations. We conduct extensive experiments and show that our method performs better than the state-of-the-art methods in handling problems of delayed reward, exploration, and credit assignment.

Feudal Multi-Agent Reinforcement Learning with Adaptive Network Partition for Traffic Signal Control

Multi-agent reinforcement learning (MARL) has been applied and shown great potential in multi-intersections traffic signal control, where multiple agents, one for each intersection, must cooperate together to optimize traffic flow. To encourage global cooperation, previous work partitions the traffic network into several regions and learns policies for agents in a feudal structure. However, static network partition fails to adapt to dynamic traffic flow, which will changes frequently over time. To address this, we propose a novel feudal MARL approach with adaptive network partition. Specifically, we first partition the network into several regions according to the traffic flow. To do this, we propose two approaches: one is directly to use graph neural network (GNN) to generate the network partition, and the other is to use Monte-Carlo tree search (MCTS) to find the best partition with criteria computed by GNN. Then, we design a variant of Qmix using GNN to handle various dimensions of input, given by the dynamic network partition. Finally, we use a feudal hierarchy to manage agents in each partition and promote global cooperation. By doing so, agents are able to adapt to the traffic flow as required in practice. We empirically evaluate our method both in a synthetic traffic grid and real-world traffic networks of three cities, widely used in the literature. Our experimental results confirm that our method can achieve better performance, in terms of average travel time and queue length, than several leading methods for traffic signal control.

D-FINE: Redefine Regression Task in DETRs as Fine-grained Distribution Refinement

We introduce D-FINE, a powerful real-time object detector that achieves outstanding localization precision by redefining the bounding box regression task in DETR models. D-FINE comprises two key components: Fine-grained Distribution Refinement (FDR) and Global Optimal Localization Self-Distillation (GO-LSD). FDR transforms the regression process from predicting fixed coordinates to iteratively refining probability distributions, providing a fine-grained intermediate representation that significantly enhances localization accuracy. GO-LSD is a bidirectional optimization strategy that transfers localization knowledge from refined distributions to shallower layers through self-distillation, while also simplifying the residual prediction tasks for deeper layers. Additionally, D-FINE incorporates lightweight optimizations in computationally intensive modules and operations, achieving a better balance between speed and accuracy. Specifically, D-FINE-L / X achieves 54.0% / 55.8% AP on the COCO dataset at 124 / 78 FPS on an NVIDIA T4 GPU. When pretrained on Objects365, D-FINE-L / X attains 57.1% / 59.3% AP, surpassing all existing real-time detectors. Furthermore, our method significantly enhances the performance of a wide range of DETR models by up to 5.3% AP with negligible extra parameters and training costs. NVC-1B: A Large Neural Video Coding Model

The emerging large models have achieved notable progress in the fields of natural language processing and computer vision. However, large models for neural video coding are still unexplored. In this paper, we try to explore how to build a large neural video coding model. Based on a small baseline model, we gradually scale up the model sizes of its different coding parts, including the motion encoder-decoder, motion entropy model, contextual encoder-decoder, contextual entropy model, and temporal context mining module, and analyze the influence of model sizes on video compression performance. Then, we explore to use different architectures, including CNN, mixed CNN-Transformer, and Transformer architectures, to implement the neural video coding model and analyze the influence of model architectures on video compression performance. Based on our exploration results, we design the first neural video coding model with more than 1 billion parameters -- NVC-1B. Experimental results show that our proposed large model achieves a significant video compression performance improvement over the small baseline model, and represents the state-of-the-art compression efficiency. We anticipate large models may bring up the video coding technologies to the next level.

In-Loop Filtering via Trained Look-Up Tables

In-loop filtering (ILF) is a key technology for removing the artifacts in image/video coding standards. Recently, neural network-based in-loop filtering methods achieve remarkable coding gains beyond the capability of advanced video coding standards, which becomes a powerful coding tool candidate for future video coding standards. However, the utilization of deep neural networks brings heavy time and computational complexity, and high demands of high-performance hardware, which is challenging to apply to the general uses of coding scene. To address this limitation, inspired by explorations in image restoration, we propose an efficient and practical in-loop filtering scheme by adopting the Look-up Table (LUT). We train the DNN of in-loop filtering within a fixed filtering reference range, and cache the output values of the DNN into a LUT via traversing all possible inputs. At testing time in the coding process, the filtered pixel is generated by locating input pixels (to-be-filtered pixel with reference pixels) and interpolating cached filtered pixel values. To further enable the large filtering reference range with the limited storage cost of LUT, we introduce the enhanced indexing mechanism in the filtering process, and clipping/finetuning mechanism in the training. The proposed method is implemented into the Versatile Video Coding (VVC) reference software, VTM-11.0. Experimental results show that the ultrafast, very fast, and fast mode of the proposed method achieves on average 0.13%/0.34%/0.51%, and 0.10%/0.27%/0.39% BD-rate reduction, under the all intra (AI) and random access (RA) configurations. Especially, our method has friendly time and computational complexity, only 101%/102%-104%/108% time increase with 0.13-0.93 kMACs/pixel, and only 164-1148 KB storage cost for a single model. Our solution may shed light on the journey of practical neural network-based coding tool evolution.

Scene Adaptive Sparse Transformer for Event-based Object Detection

While recent Transformer-based approaches have shown impressive performances on event-based object detection tasks, their high computational costs still diminish the low power consumption advantage of event cameras. Image-based works attempt to reduce these costs by introducing sparse Transformers. However, they display inadequate sparsity and adaptability when applied to event-based object detection, since these approaches cannot balance the fine granularity of token-level sparsification and the efficiency of window-based Transformers, leading to reduced performance and efficiency. Furthermore, they lack scene-specific sparsity optimization, resulting in information loss and a lower recall rate. To overcome these limitations, we propose the Scene Adaptive Sparse Transformer (SAST). SAST enables window-token co-sparsification, significantly enhancing fault tolerance and reducing computational overhead. Leveraging the innovative scoring and selection modules, along with the Masked Sparse Window Self-Attention, SAST showcases remarkable scene-aware adaptability: It focuses only on important objects and dynamically optimizes sparsity level according to scene complexity, maintaining a remarkable balance between performance and computational cost. The evaluation results show that SAST outperforms all other dense and sparse networks in both performance and efficiency on two large-scale event-based object detection datasets (1Mpx and Gen1). Echo: Learning from Experience Data via User-Driven Refinement

Static "human data" faces inherent limitations: it is expensive to scale and bounded by the knowledge of its creators. Continuous learning from "experience data" - interactions between agents and their environments - promises to transcend these barriers. Today, the widespread deployment of AI agents grants us low-cost access to massive streams of such real-world experience. However, raw interaction logs are inherently noisy, filled with trial-and-error and low information density, rendering them inefficient for direct model training. We introduce Echo, a generalized framework designed to operationalize the transition from raw experience to learnable knowledge, effectively "echoing" environmental feedback back into the training loop for model optimization. In today's agent ecosystem, user refinement serves as a primary source of such feedback: driven by responsibility for the outcome, users rigorously transform flawed agent proposals into verified solutions. These user-driven refinement sequences inherently distill agents' crude attempts into high-quality training signals. Echo systematically harvests these signals to continuously align the agent with real-world needs. Large-scale validation in a production code completion environment confirms that Echo effectively harnesses this pipeline, breaking the static performance ceiling by increasing the acceptance rate from 25.7% to 35.7%.

Effective Multimodal Reinforcement Learning with Modality Alignment and Importance Enhancement

Many real-world applications require an agent to make robust and deliberate decisions with multimodal information (e.g., robots with multi-sensory inputs). However, it is very challenging to train the agent via reinforcement learning (RL) due to the heterogeneity and dynamic importance of different modalities. Specifically, we observe that these issues make conventional RL methods difficult to learn a useful state representation in the end-to-end training with multimodal information. To address this, we propose a novel multimodal RL approach that can do multimodal alignment and importance enhancement according to their similarity and importance in terms of RL tasks respectively. By doing so, we are able to learn an effective state representation and consequentially improve the RL training process. We test our approach on several multimodal RL domains, showing that it outperforms state-of-the-art methods in terms of learning speed and policy quality.

ClickAttention: Click Region Similarity Guided Interactive Segmentation

Interactive segmentation algorithms based on click points have garnered significant attention from researchers in recent years. However, existing studies typically use sparse click maps as model inputs to segment specific target objects, which primarily affect local regions and have limited abilities to focus on the whole target object, leading to increased times of clicks. In addition, most existing algorithms can not balance well between high performance and efficiency. To address this issue, we propose a click attention algorithm that expands the influence range of positive clicks based on the similarity between positively-clicked regions and the whole input. We also propose a discriminative affinity loss to reduce the attention coupling between positive and negative click regions to avoid an accuracy decrease caused by mutual interference between positive and negative clicks. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our approach is superior to existing methods and achieves cutting-edge performance in fewer parameters. MNL-Bandits under Inventory and Limited Switches Constraints

Optimizing the assortment of products to display to customers is a key to increasing revenue for both offline and online retailers. To trade-off between exploring customers' preference and exploiting customers' choices learned from data, in this paper, by adopting the Multi-Nomial Logit (MNL) choice model to capture customers' choices over products, we study the problem of optimizing assortments over a planning horizon $T$ for maximizing the profit of the retailer. To make the problem setting more practical, we consider both the inventory constraint and the limited switches constraint, where the retailer cannot use up the resource inventory before time $T$ and is forbidden to switch the assortment shown to customers too many times. Such a setting suits the case when an online retailer wants to dynamically optimize the assortment selection for a population of customers. We develop an efficient UCB-like algorithm to optimize the assortments while learning customers' choices from data. We prove that our algorithm can achieve a sub-linear regret bound $\tilde{O}\left(T^{1-α/2}\right)$ if $O(T^α)$ switches are allowed. %, and our regret bound is optimal with respect to $T$. Extensive numerical experiments show that our algorithm outperforms baselines and the gap between our algorithm's performance and the theoretical upper bound is small.

GEM: Empowering MLLM for Grounded ECG Understanding with Time Series and Images

While recent multimodal large language models (MLLMs) have advanced automated ECG interpretation, they still face two key limitations: (1) insufficient multimodal synergy between time series signals and visual ECG representations, and (2) limited explainability in linking diagnoses to granular waveform evidence. We introduce GEM, the first MLLM unifying ECG time series, 12-lead ECG images and text for grounded and clinician-aligned ECG interpretation. GEM enables feature-grounded analysis, evidence-driven reasoning, and a clinician-like diagnostic process through three core innovations: a dual-encoder framework extracting complementary time series and image features, cross-modal alignment for effective multimodal understanding, and knowledge-guided instruction generation for generating high-granularity grounding data (ECG-Grounding) linking diagnoses to measurable parameters ($e.g.$, QRS/PR Intervals). Additionally, we propose the Grounded ECG Understanding task, a clinically motivated benchmark designed to comprehensively assess the MLLM's capability in grounded ECG understanding. Experimental results on both existing and our proposed benchmarks show GEM significantly improves predictive performance (CSN $7.4\% \uparrow$), explainability ($22.7\% \uparrow$), and grounding ($24.8\% \uparrow$), making it more suitable for real-world clinical applications. OS-Themis: A Scalable Critic Framework for Generalist GUI Rewards

Reinforcement Learning (RL) has the potential to improve the robustness of GUI agents in stochastic environments, yet training is highly sensitive to the quality of the reward function. Existing reward approaches struggle to achieve both scalability and performance. To address this, we propose OS-Themis, a scalable and accurate multi-agent critic framework. Unlike a single judge, OS-Themis decomposes trajectories into verifiable milestones to isolate critical evidence for decision making and employs a review mechanism to strictly audit the evidence chain before making the final verdict. To facilitate evaluation, we further introduce OmniGUIRewardBench (OGRBench), a holistic cross-platform benchmark for GUI outcome rewards, where all evaluated models achieve their best performance under OS-Themis. Extensive experiments on AndroidWorld show that OS-Themis yields a 10.3% improvement when used to support online RL training, and a 6.9% gain when used for trajectory validation and filtering in the self-training loop, highlighting its potential to drive agent evolution.

Short Chains, Deep Thoughts: Balancing Reasoning Efficiency and Intra-Segment Capability via Split-Merge Optimization

While Large Reasoning Models (LRMs) have demonstrated impressive capabilities in solving complex tasks through the generation of long reasoning chains, this reliance on verbose generation results in significant latency and computational overhead. To address these challenges, we propose \textbf{CoSMo} (\textbf{Co}nsistency-Guided \textbf{S}plit-\textbf{M}erge \textbf{O}ptimization), a framework designed to eliminate structural redundancy rather than indiscriminately restricting token volume. Specifically, CoSMo utilizes a split-merge algorithm that dynamically refines reasoning chains by merging redundant segments and splitting logical gaps to ensure coherence. We then employ structure-aligned reinforcement learning with a novel segment-level budget to supervise the model in maintaining efficient reasoning structures throughout training. Extensive experiments across multiple benchmarks and backbones demonstrate that CoSMo achieves superior performance, improving accuracy by \textbf{3.3} points while reducing segment usage by \textbf{28.7\%} on average compared to reasoning efficiency baselines.

Research on Self-adaptive Online Vehicle Velocity Prediction Strategy Considering Traffic Information Fusion

In order to increase the prediction accuracy of the online vehicle velocity prediction (VVP) strategy, a self-adaptive velocity prediction algorithm fused with traffic information was presented for the multiple scenarios. Initially, traffic scenarios were established inside the co-simulation environment. In addition, the algorithm of a general regressive neural network (GRNN) paired with datasets of the ego-vehicle, the front vehicle, and traffic lights was used in traffic scenarios, which increasingly improved the prediction accuracy. To ameliorate the robustness of the algorithm, then the strategy was optimized by particle swarm optimization (PSO) and k-fold cross-validation to find the optimal parameters of the neural network in real-time, which constructed a self-adaptive online PSO-GRNN VVP strategy with multi-information fusion to adapt with different operating situations. The self-adaptive online PSO-GRNN VVP strategy was then deployed to a variety of simulated scenarios to test its efficacy under various operating situations. Finally, the simulation results reveal that in urban and highway scenarios, the prediction accuracy is separately increased by 27.8% and 54.5% when compared to the traditional GRNN VVP strategy with fixed parameters utilizing only the historical ego-vehicle velocity dataset.

UniSOT: A Unified Framework for Multi-Modality Single Object Tracking

Single object tracking aims to localize target object with specific reference modalities (bounding box, natural language or both) in a sequence of specific video modalities (RGB, RGB+Depth, RGB+Thermal or RGB+Event.). Different reference modalities enable various human-machine interactions, and different video modalities are demanded in complex scenarios to enhance tracking robustness. Existing trackers are designed for single or several video modalities with single or several reference modalities, which leads to separate model designs and limits practical applications. Practically, a unified tracker is needed to handle various requirements. To the best of our knowledge, there is still no tracker that can perform tracking with these above reference modalities across these video modalities simultaneously. Thus, in this paper, we present a unified tracker, UniSOT, for different combinations of three reference modalities and four video modalities with uniform parameters. Extensive experimental results on 18 visual tracking, vision-language tracking and RGB+X tracking benchmarks demonstrate that UniSOT shows superior performance against modality-specific counterparts. Notably, UniSOT outperforms previous counterparts by over 3.0\% AUC on TNL2K across all three reference modalities and outperforms Un-Track by over 2.0\% main metric across all three RGB+X video modalities.
