DFormer: Rethinking RGBD Representation Learning for Semantic Segmentation

Bowen Yin, Xuying Zhang, Zhongyu Li et al.

We present DFormer, a novel RGB-D pretraining framework to learn transferable representations for RGB-D segmentation tasks. DFormer has two new key innovations: 1) Unlike previous works that encode RGB-D information with RGB pretrained backbone, we pretrain the backbone using image-depth pairs from ImageNet-1K, and hence the DFormer is endowed with the capacity to encode RGB-D representations; 2) DFormer comprises a sequence of RGB-D blocks, which are tailored for encoding both RGB and depth information through a novel building block design. DFormer avoids the mismatched encoding of the 3D geometry relationships in depth maps by RGB pretrained backbones, which widely lies in existing methods but has not been resolved. We finetune the pretrained DFormer on two popular RGB-D tasks, i.e., RGB-D semantic segmentation and RGB-D salient object detection, with a lightweight decoder head. Experimental results show that our DFormer achieves new state-of-the-art performance on these two tasks with less than half of the computational cost of the current best methods on two RGB-D semantic segmentation datasets and five RGB-D salient object detection datasets. Our code is available at: https://github.com/VCIP-RGBD/DFormer.

ROFusion: Efficient Object Detection using Hybrid Point-wise Radar-Optical Fusion

Liu Liu, Shuaifeng Zhi, Zhenhua Du et al.

Radars, due to their robustness to adverse weather conditions and ability to measure object motions, have served in autonomous driving and intelligent agents for years. However, Radar-based perception suffers from its unintuitive sensing data, which lack of semantic and structural information of scenes. To tackle this problem, camera and Radar sensor fusion has been investigated as a trending strategy with low cost, high reliability and strong maintenance. While most recent works explore how to explore Radar point clouds and images, rich contextual information within Radar observation are discarded. In this paper, we propose a hybrid point-wise Radar-Optical fusion approach for object detection in autonomous driving scenarios. The framework benefits from dense contextual information from both the range-doppler spectrum and images which are integrated to learn a multi-modal feature representation. Furthermore, we propose a novel local coordinate formulation, tackling the object detection task in an object-centric coordinate. Extensive results show that with the information gained from optical images, we could achieve leading performance in object detection (97.69\% recall) compared to recent state-of-the-art methods FFT-RadNet (82.86\% recall). Ablation studies verify the key design choices and practicability of our approach given machine generated imperfect detections. The code will be available at https://github.com/LiuLiu-55/ROFusion.

SceneTracker: Long-term Scene Flow Estimation Network

Bo Wang, Jian Li, Yang Yu et al.

Considering that scene flow estimation has the capability of the spatial domain to focus but lacks the coherence of the temporal domain, this study proposes long-term scene flow estimation (LSFE), a comprehensive task that can simultaneously capture the fine-grained and long-term 3D motion in an online manner. We introduce SceneTracker, the first LSFE network that adopts an iterative approach to approximate the optimal 3D trajectory. The network dynamically and simultaneously indexes and constructs appearance correlation and depth residual features. Transformers are then employed to explore and utilize long-range connections within and between trajectories. With detailed experiments, SceneTracker shows superior capabilities in addressing 3D spatial occlusion and depth noise interference, highly tailored to the needs of the LSFE task. We build a real-world evaluation dataset, LSFDriving, for the LSFE field and use it in experiments to further demonstrate the advantage of SceneTracker in generalization abilities. The code and data are available at https://github.com/wwsource/SceneTracker.

CT Film Recovery via Disentangling Geometric Deformation and Illumination Variation: Simulated Datasets and Deep Models

Quan Quan, Qiyuan Wang, Liu Li et al.

While medical images such as computed tomography (CT) are stored in DICOM format in hospital PACS, it is still quite routine in many countries to print a film as a transferable medium for the purposes of self-storage and secondary consultation. Also, with the ubiquitousness of mobile phone cameras, it is quite common to take pictures of the CT films, which unfortunately suffer from geometric deformation and illumination variation. In this work, we study the problem of recovering a CT film, which marks the first attempt in the literature, to the best of our knowledge. We start with building a large-scale head CT film database CTFilm20K, consisting of approximately 20,000 pictures, using the widely used computer graphics software Blender. We also record all accompanying information related to the geometric deformation (such as 3D coordinate, depth, normal, and UV maps) and illumination variation (such as albedo map). Then we propose a deep framework to disentangle geometric deformation and illumination variation using the multiple maps extracted from the CT films to collaboratively guide the recovery process. Extensive experiments on simulated and real images demonstrate the superiority of our approach over the previous approaches. We plan to open source the simulated images and deep models for promoting the research on CT film recovery (https://anonymous.4open.science/r/e6b1f6e3-9b36-423f-a225-55b7d0b55523/).

ARBiBench: Benchmarking Adversarial Robustness of Binarized Neural Networks

Peng Zhao, Jiehua Zhang, Bowen Peng et al.

Network binarization exhibits great potential for deployment on resource-constrained devices due to its low computational cost. Despite the critical importance, the security of binarized neural networks (BNNs) is rarely investigated. In this paper, we present ARBiBench, a comprehensive benchmark to evaluate the robustness of BNNs against adversarial perturbations on CIFAR-10 and ImageNet. We first evaluate the robustness of seven influential BNNs on various white-box and black-box attacks. The results reveal that 1) The adversarial robustness of BNNs exhibits a completely opposite performance on the two datasets under white-box attacks. 2) BNNs consistently exhibit better adversarial robustness under black-box attacks. 3) Different BNNs exhibit certain similarities in their robustness performance. Then, we conduct experiments to analyze the adversarial robustness of BNNs based on these insights. Our research contributes to inspiring future research on enhancing the robustness of BNNs and advancing their application in real-world scenarios.
