Dense Point Clouds Matter: Dust-GS for Scene Reconstruction from Sparse ViewpointsShan Chen, Jiale Zhou, Lei Li
3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) has demonstrated remarkable performance in scene synthesis and novel view synthesis tasks. Typically, the initialization of 3D Gaussian primitives relies on point clouds derived from Structure-from-Motion (SfM) methods. However, in scenarios requiring scene reconstruction from sparse viewpoints, the effectiveness of 3DGS is significantly constrained by the quality of these initial point clouds and the limited number of input images. In this study, we present Dust-GS, a novel framework specifically designed to overcome the limitations of 3DGS in sparse viewpoint conditions. Instead of relying solely on SfM, Dust-GS introduces an innovative point cloud initialization technique that remains effective even with sparse input data. Our approach leverages a hybrid strategy that integrates an adaptive depth-based masking technique, thereby enhancing the accuracy and detail of reconstructed scenes. Extensive experiments conducted on several benchmark datasets demonstrate that Dust-GS surpasses traditional 3DGS methods in scenarios with sparse viewpoints, achieving superior scene reconstruction quality with a reduced number of input images.
Parallax-tolerant Image Stitching via Segmentation-guided Multi-homography WarpingTianli Liao, Ce Wang, Lei Li et al.
Large parallax between images is an intractable issue in image stitching. Various warping-based methods are proposed to address it, yet the results are unsatisfactory. In this paper, we propose a novel image stitching method using multi-homography warping guided by image segmentation. Specifically, we leverage the Segment Anything Model to segment the target image into numerous contents and partition the feature points into multiple subsets via the energy-based multi-homography fitting algorithm. The multiple subsets of feature points are used to calculate the corresponding multiple homographies. For each segmented content in the overlapping region, we select its best-fitting homography with the lowest photometric error. For each segmented content in the non-overlapping region, we calculate a weighted combination of the linearized homographies. Finally, the target image is warped via the best-fitting homographies to align with the reference image, and the final panorama is generated via linear blending. Comprehensive experimental results on the public datasets demonstrate that our method provides the best alignment accuracy by a large margin, compared with the state-of-the-art methods. Learning to Learn Weight Generation via Local Consistency DiffusionYunchuan Guan, Yu Liu, Ke Zhou et al.
Diffusion-based algorithms have emerged as promising techniques for weight generation. However, existing solutions are limited by two challenges: generalizability and local target assignment. The former arises from the inherent lack of cross-task transferability in existing single-level optimization methods, limiting the model's performance on new tasks. The latter lies in existing research modeling only global optimal weights, neglecting the supervision signals in local target weights. Moreover, naively assigning local target weights causes local-global inconsistency. To address these issues, we propose Mc-Di, which integrates the diffusion algorithm with meta-learning for better generalizability. Furthermore, we extend the vanilla diffusion into a local consistency diffusion algorithm. Our theory and experiments demonstrate that it can learn from local targets while maintaining consistency with the global optima. We validate Mc-Di's superior accuracy and inference efficiency in tasks that require frequent weight updates, including transfer learning, few-shot learning, domain generalization, and large language model adaptation.

CMU-Flownet: Exploring Point Cloud Scene Flow Estimation in Occluded ScenarioJingze Chen, Junfeng Yao, Qiqin Lin et al.
Occlusions hinder point cloud frame alignment in LiDAR data, a challenge inadequately addressed by scene flow models tested mainly on occlusion-free datasets. Attempts to integrate occlusion handling within networks often suffer accuracy issues due to two main limitations: a) the inadequate use of occlusion information, often merging it with flow estimation without an effective integration strategy, and b) reliance on distance-weighted upsampling that falls short in correcting occlusion-related errors. To address these challenges, we introduce the Correlation Matrix Upsampling Flownet (CMU-Flownet), incorporating an occlusion estimation module within its cost volume layer, alongside an Occlusion-aware Cost Volume (OCV) mechanism. Specifically, we propose an enhanced upsampling approach that expands the sensory field of the sampling process which integrates a Correlation Matrix designed to evaluate point-level similarity. Meanwhile, our model robustly integrates occlusion data within the context of scene flow, deploying this information strategically during the refinement phase of the flow estimation. The efficacy of this approach is demonstrated through subsequent experimental validation. Empirical assessments reveal that CMU-Flownet establishes state-of-the-art performance within the realms of occluded Flyingthings3D and KITTY datasets, surpassing previous methodologies across a majority of evaluated metrics.
