MIPI 2023 Challenge on RGB+ToF Depth Completion: Methods and ResultsQingpeng Zhu, Wenxiu Sun, Yuekun Dai et al.
Depth completion from RGB images and sparse Time-of-Flight (ToF) measurements is an important problem in computer vision and robotics. While traditional methods for depth completion have relied on stereo vision or structured light techniques, recent advances in deep learning have enabled more accurate and efficient completion of depth maps from RGB images and sparse ToF measurements. To evaluate the performance of different depth completion methods, we organized an RGB+sparse ToF depth completion competition. The competition aimed to encourage research in this area by providing a standardized dataset and evaluation metrics to compare the accuracy of different approaches. In this report, we present the results of the competition and analyze the strengths and weaknesses of the top-performing methods. We also discuss the implications of our findings for future research in RGB+sparse ToF depth completion. We hope that this competition and report will help to advance the state-of-the-art in this important area of research. More details of this challenge and the link to the dataset can be found at https://mipi-challenge.org/MIPI2023.

Semi-Supervised Learning of Dynamical Systems with Neural Ordinary Differential Equations: A Teacher-Student Model ApproachYu Wang, Yuxuan Yin, Karthik Somayaji Nanjangud Suryanarayana et al.
Modeling dynamical systems is crucial for a wide range of tasks, but it remains challenging due to complex nonlinear dynamics, limited observations, or lack of prior knowledge. Recently, data-driven approaches such as Neural Ordinary Differential Equations (NODE) have shown promising results by leveraging the expressive power of neural networks to model unknown dynamics. However, these approaches often suffer from limited labeled training data, leading to poor generalization and suboptimal predictions. On the other hand, semi-supervised algorithms can utilize abundant unlabeled data and have demonstrated good performance in classification and regression tasks. We propose TS-NODE, the first semi-supervised approach to modeling dynamical systems with NODE. TS-NODE explores cheaply generated synthetic pseudo rollouts to broaden exploration in the state space and to tackle the challenges brought by lack of ground-truth system data under a teacher-student model. TS-NODE employs an unified optimization framework that corrects the teacher model based on the student's feedback while mitigating the potential false system dynamics present in pseudo rollouts. TS-NODE demonstrates significant performance improvements over a baseline Neural ODE model on multiple dynamical system modeling tasks.
Efficient Context-Aware Network for Abdominal Multi-organ SegmentationFan Zhang, Yu Wang, Hua Yang
The contextual information, presented in abdominal CT scan, is relative consistent. In order to make full use of the overall 3D context, we develop a whole-volume-based coarse-to-fine framework for efficient and effective abdominal multi-organ segmentation. We propose a new efficientSegNet network, which is composed of basic encoder, slim decoder and efficient context block. For the decoder module, anisotropic convolution with a k*k*1 intra-slice convolution and a 1*1*k inter-slice convolution, is designed to reduce the computation burden. For the context block, we propose strip pooling module to capture anisotropic and long-range contextual information, which exists in abdominal scene. Quantitative evaluation on the FLARE2021 validation cases, this method achieves the average dice similarity coefficient (DSC) of 0.895 and average normalized surface distance (NSD) of 0.775. This method won the 1st place on the 2021-MICCAI-FLARE challenge. Codes and models are available at https://github.com/Shanghai-Aitrox-Technology/EfficientSegmentation.
