Learning to Fuse Monocular and Multi-view Cues for Multi-frame Depth Estimation in Dynamic Scenes

Rui Li, Dong Gong, Wei Yin et al.

Multi-frame depth estimation generally achieves high accuracy relying on the multi-view geometric consistency. When applied in dynamic scenes, e.g., autonomous driving, this consistency is usually violated in the dynamic areas, leading to corrupted estimations. Many multi-frame methods handle dynamic areas by identifying them with explicit masks and compensating the multi-view cues with monocular cues represented as local monocular depth or features. The improvements are limited due to the uncontrolled quality of the masks and the underutilized benefits of the fusion of the two types of cues. In this paper, we propose a novel method to learn to fuse the multi-view and monocular cues encoded as volumes without needing the heuristically crafted masks. As unveiled in our analyses, the multi-view cues capture more accurate geometric information in static areas, and the monocular cues capture more useful contexts in dynamic areas. To let the geometric perception learned from multi-view cues in static areas propagate to the monocular representation in dynamic areas and let monocular cues enhance the representation of multi-view cost volume, we propose a cross-cue fusion (CCF) module, which includes the cross-cue attention (CCA) to encode the spatially non-local relative intra-relations from each source to enhance the representation of the other. Experiments on real-world datasets prove the significant effectiveness and generalization ability of the proposed method.

A Look at Improving Robustness in Visual-inertial SLAM by Moment Matching

Arno Solin, Rui Li, Andrea Pilzer

The fusion of camera sensor and inertial data is a leading method for ego-motion tracking in autonomous and smart devices. State estimation techniques that rely on non-linear filtering are a strong paradigm for solving the associated information fusion task. The de facto inference method in this space is the celebrated extended Kalman filter (EKF), which relies on first-order linearizations of both the dynamical and measurement model. This paper takes a critical look at the practical implications and limitations posed by the EKF, especially under faulty visual feature associations and the presence of strong confounding noise. As an alternative, we revisit the assumed density formulation of Bayesian filtering and employ a moment matching (unscented Kalman filtering) approach to both visual-inertial odometry and visual SLAM. Our results highlight important aspects in robustness both in dynamics propagation and visual measurement updates, and we show state-of-the-art results on EuRoC MAV drone data benchmark.

Pan-Mamba: Effective pan-sharpening with State Space Model

Xuanhua He, Ke Cao, Keyu Yan et al.

Pan-sharpening involves integrating information from low-resolution multi-spectral and high-resolution panchromatic images to generate high-resolution multi-spectral counterparts. While recent advancements in the state space model, particularly the efficient long-range dependency modeling achieved by Mamba, have revolutionized computer vision community, its untapped potential in pan-sharpening motivates our exploration. Our contribution, Pan-Mamba, represents a novel pan-sharpening network that leverages the efficiency of the Mamba model in global information modeling. In Pan-Mamba, we customize two core components: channel swapping Mamba and cross-modal Mamba, strategically designed for efficient cross-modal information exchange and fusion. The former initiates a lightweight cross-modal interaction through the exchange of partial panchromatic and multi-spectral channels, while the latter facilities the information representation capability by exploiting inherent cross-modal relationships. Through extensive experiments across diverse datasets, our proposed approach surpasses state-of-the-art methods, showcasing superior fusion results in pan-sharpening. To the best of our knowledge, this work is the first attempt in exploring the potential of the Mamba model and establishes a new frontier in the pan-sharpening techniques. Enhancing RAW-to-sRGB with Decoupled Style Structure in Fourier Domain

Xuanhua He, Tao Hu, Guoli Wang et al.

RAW to sRGB mapping, which aims to convert RAW images from smartphones into RGB form equivalent to that of Digital Single-Lens Reflex (DSLR) cameras, has become an important area of research. However, current methods often ignore the difference between cell phone RAW images and DSLR camera RGB images, a difference that goes beyond the color matrix and extends to spatial structure due to resolution variations. Recent methods directly rebuild color mapping and spatial structure via shared deep representation, limiting optimal performance. Inspired by Image Signal Processing (ISP) pipeline, which distinguishes image restoration and enhancement, we present a novel Neural ISP framework, named FourierISP. This approach breaks the image down into style and structure within the frequency domain, allowing for independent optimization. FourierISP is comprised of three subnetworks: Phase Enhance Subnet for structural refinement, Amplitude Refine Subnet for color learning, and Color Adaptation Subnet for blending them in a smooth manner. This approach sharpens both color and structure, and extensive evaluations across varied datasets confirm that our approach realizes state-of-the-art results. Code will be available at ~\url{https://github.com/alexhe101/FourierISP}.

GoMVS: Geometrically Consistent Cost Aggregation for Multi-View Stereo

Jiang Wu, Rui Li, Haofei Xu et al.

Matching cost aggregation plays a fundamental role in learning-based multi-view stereo networks. However, directly aggregating adjacent costs can lead to suboptimal results due to local geometric inconsistency. Related methods either seek selective aggregation or improve aggregated depth in the 2D space, both are unable to handle geometric inconsistency in the cost volume effectively. In this paper, we propose GoMVS to aggregate geometrically consistent costs, yielding better utilization of adjacent geometries. More specifically, we correspond and propagate adjacent costs to the reference pixel by leveraging the local geometric smoothness in conjunction with surface normals. We achieve this by the geometric consistent propagation (GCP) module. It computes the correspondence from the adjacent depth hypothesis space to the reference depth space using surface normals, then uses the correspondence to propagate adjacent costs to the reference geometry, followed by a convolution for aggregation. Our method achieves new state-of-the-art performance on DTU, Tanks & Temple, and ETH3D datasets. Notably, our method ranks 1st on the Tanks & Temple Advanced benchmark.

Be a Multitude to Itself: A Prompt Evolution Framework for Red Teaming

Rui Li, Peiyi Wang, Jingyuan Ma et al.

Large Language Models (LLMs) have gained increasing attention for their remarkable capacity, alongside concerns about safety arising from their potential to produce harmful content. Red teaming aims to find prompts that could elicit harmful responses from LLMs, and is essential to discover and mitigate safety risks before real-world deployment. However, manual red teaming is both time-consuming and expensive, rendering it unscalable. In this paper, we propose RTPE, a scalable evolution framework to evolve red teaming prompts across both breadth and depth dimensions, facilitating the automatic generation of numerous high-quality and diverse red teaming prompts. Specifically, in-breadth evolving employs a novel enhanced in-context learning method to create a multitude of quality prompts, whereas in-depth evolving applies customized transformation operations to enhance both content and form of prompts, thereby increasing diversity. Extensive experiments demonstrate that RTPE surpasses existing representative automatic red teaming methods on both attack success rate and diversity. In addition, based on 4,800 red teaming prompts created by RTPE, we further provide a systematic analysis of 8 representative LLMs across 8 sensitive topics.

Boosting Multi-view Stereo with Late Cost Aggregation

Jiang Wu, Rui Li, Yu Zhu et al.

Pairwise matching cost aggregation is a crucial step for modern learning-based Multi-view Stereo (MVS). Prior works adopt an early aggregation scheme, which adds up pairwise costs into an intermediate cost. However, we analyze that this process can degrade informative pairwise matchings, thereby blocking the depth network from fully utilizing the original geometric matching cues. To address this challenge, we present a late aggregation approach that allows for aggregating pairwise costs throughout the network feed-forward process, achieving accurate estimations with only minor changes of the plain CasMVSNet. Instead of building an intermediate cost by weighted sum, late aggregation preserves all pairwise costs along a distinct view channel. This enables the succeeding depth network to fully utilize the crucial geometric cues without loss of cost fidelity. Grounded in the new aggregation scheme, we propose further techniques addressing view order dependence inside the preserved cost, handling flexible testing views, and improving the depth filtering process. Despite its technical simplicity, our method improves significantly upon the baseline cascade-based approach, achieving comparable results with state-of-the-art methods with favorable computation overhead.

Neural Adaptive SCEne Tracing

Rui Li, Darius Rückert, Yuanhao Wang et al.

Neural rendering with implicit neural networks has recently emerged as an attractive proposition for scene reconstruction, achieving excellent quality albeit at high computational cost. While the most recent generation of such methods has made progress on the rendering (inference) times, very little progress has been made on improving the reconstruction (training) times. In this work, we present Neural Adaptive Scene Tracing (NAScenT), the first neural rendering method based on directly training a hybrid explicit-implicit neural representation. NAScenT uses a hierarchical octree representation with one neural network per leaf node and combines this representation with a two-stage sampling process that concentrates ray samples where they matter most near object surfaces. As a result, NAScenT is capable of reconstructing challenging scenes including both large, sparsely populated volumes like UAV captured outdoor environments, as well as small scenes with high geometric complexity. NAScenT outperforms existing neural rendering approaches in terms of both quality and training time.

NeAT: Neural Adaptive Tomography

Darius Rückert, Yuanhao Wang, Rui Li et al.

In this paper, we present Neural Adaptive Tomography (NeAT), the first adaptive, hierarchical neural rendering pipeline for multi-view inverse rendering. Through a combination of neural features with an adaptive explicit representation, we achieve reconstruction times far superior to existing neural inverse rendering methods. The adaptive explicit representation improves efficiency by facilitating empty space culling and concentrating samples in complex regions, while the neural features act as a neural regularizer for the 3D reconstruction. The NeAT framework is designed specifically for the tomographic setting, which consists only of semi-transparent volumetric scenes instead of opaque objects. In this setting, NeAT outperforms the quality of existing optimization-based tomography solvers while being substantially faster.

Shape and Reflectance Reconstruction in Uncontrolled Environments by Differentiable Rendering

Rui Li, Guangmin Zang, Miao Qi et al.

Simultaneous reconstruction of geometry and reflectance properties in uncontrolled environments remains a challenging problem. In this paper, we propose an efficient method to reconstruct the scene's 3D geometry and reflectance from multi-view photography using conventional hand-held cameras. Our method automatically builds a virtual scene in a differentiable rendering system that roughly matches the real world's scene parameters, optimized by minimizing photometric objectives alternatingly and stochastically. With the optimal scene parameters evaluated, photo-realistic novel views for various viewing angles and distances can then be generated by our approach. We present the results of captured scenes with complex geometry and various reflection types. Our method also shows superior performance compared to state-of-the-art alternatives in novel view synthesis visually and quantitatively.

Searching Collaborative Agents for Multi-plane Localization in 3D Ultrasound

Yuhao Huang, Xin Yang, Rui Li et al.

3D ultrasound (US) is widely used due to its rich diagnostic information, portability and low cost. Automated standard plane (SP) localization in US volume not only improves efficiency and reduces user-dependence, but also boosts 3D US interpretation. In this study, we propose a novel Multi-Agent Reinforcement Learning (MARL) framework to localize multiple uterine SPs in 3D US simultaneously. Our contribution is two-fold. First, we equip the MARL with a one-shot neural architecture search (NAS) module to obtain the optimal agent for each plane. Specifically, Gradient-based search using Differentiable Architecture Sampler (GDAS) is employed to accelerate and stabilize the training process. Second, we propose a novel collaborative strategy to strengthen agents' communication. Our strategy uses recurrent neural network (RNN) to learn the spatial relationship among SPs effectively. Extensively validated on a large dataset, our approach achieves the accuracy of 7.05 degree/2.21mm, 8.62 degree/2.36mm and 5.93 degree/0.89mm for the mid-sagittal, transverse and coronal plane localization, respectively. The proposed MARL framework can significantly increase the plane localization accuracy and reduce the computational cost and model size.
