AMCAD: Adaptive Mixed-Curvature Representation based Advertisement Retrieval SystemZhirong Xu, Shiyang Wen, Junshan Wang et al.
Graph embedding based retrieval has become one of the most popular techniques in the information retrieval community and search engine industry. The classical paradigm mainly relies on the flat Euclidean geometry. In recent years, hyperbolic (negative curvature) and spherical (positive curvature) representation methods have shown their superiority to capture hierarchical and cyclic data structures respectively. However, in industrial scenarios such as e-commerce sponsored search platforms, the large-scale heterogeneous query-item-advertisement interaction graphs often have multiple structures coexisting. Existing methods either only consider a single geometry space, or combine several spaces manually, which are incapable and inflexible to model the complexity and heterogeneity in the real scenario. To tackle this challenge, we present a web-scale Adaptive Mixed-Curvature ADvertisement retrieval system (AMCAD) to automatically capture the complex and heterogeneous graph structures in non-Euclidean spaces. Specifically, entities are represented in adaptive mixed-curvature spaces, where the types and curvatures of the subspaces are trained to be optimal combinations. Besides, an attentive edge-wise space projector is designed to model the similarities between heterogeneous nodes according to local graph structures and the relation types. Moreover, to deploy AMCAD in Taobao, one of the largest ecommerce platforms with hundreds of million users, we design an efficient two-layer online retrieval framework for the task of graph based advertisement retrieval. Extensive evaluations on real-world datasets and A/B tests on online traffic are conducted to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed system.

GOT4Rec: Graph of Thoughts for Sequential RecommendationZewen Long, Liang Wang, Shu Wu et al.
With their vast open-world knowledge and reasoning abilities, large language models (LLMs) have become a promising tool for sequential recommendation. Researchers have explored various methods to harness these capabilities, but most existing approaches rely on simple input-output prompting, failing to effectively bridge the gap between LLMs' general knowledge and the specific needs of recommendation tasks. While reasoning strategies like chain-of-thought (CoT) have been introduced to enhance performance, they often produce inaccurate recommendations due to underutilized user preference information and insufficient reasoning depth. To address these challenges, we propose GOT4Rec, a novel sequential recommendation method leveraging the graph of thoughts (GoT) reasoning strategy. Our method focuses on three key types of information in user histories: short-term interests, long-term interests and collaborative information from other users. It enables LLMs to reason independently and generate recommendations, subsequently aggregating results to derive final items. This method allows LLMs, with enhanced reasoning capabilities, to better utilize the user sequence information, producing more accurate recommendations and comprehensive explanations. Extensive experiments on real-world datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of GOT4Rec, outperforming existing state-of-the-art baselines with an average improvement of 37.11%. DRTAM: Dual Rank-1 Tensor Attention ModuleHanxing Chi, Baihong Lin, Jun Hu et al.
Recently, attention mechanisms have been extensively investigated in computer vision, but few of them show excellent performance on both large and mobile networks. This paper proposes Dual Rank-1 Tensor Attention Module (DRTAM), a novel residual-attention-learning-guided attention module for feed-forward convolutional neural networks. Given a 3D feature tensor map, DRTAM firstly generates three 2D feature descriptors along three axes. Then, using three descriptors, DRTAM sequentially infers two rank-1 tensor attention maps, the initial attention map and the complement attention map, combines and multiplied them to the input feature map for adaptive feature refinement(see Fig.1(c)). To generate two attention maps, DRTAM introduces rank-1 tensor attention module (RTAM) and residual descriptors extraction module (RDEM): RTAM divides each 2D feature descriptors into several chunks, and generate three factor vectors of a rank-1 tensor attention map by employing strip pooling on each chunk so that local and long-range contextual information can be captured along three dimension respectively; RDEM generates three 2D feature descriptors of the residual feature to produce the complement attention map, using three factor vectors of the initial attention map and three descriptors of the input feature. Extensive experimental results on ImageNet-1K, MS COCO and PASCAL VOC demonstrate that DRTAM achieves competitive performance on both large and mobile networks compare with other state-of-the-art attention modules.

Focal and Efficient IOU Loss for Accurate Bounding Box RegressionYi-Fan Zhang, Weiqiang Ren, Zhang Zhang et al.
In object detection, bounding box regression (BBR) is a crucial step that determines the object localization performance. However, we find that most previous loss functions for BBR have two main drawbacks: (i) Both $\ell_n$-norm and IOU-based loss functions are inefficient to depict the objective of BBR, which leads to slow convergence and inaccurate regression results. (ii) Most of the loss functions ignore the imbalance problem in BBR that the large number of anchor boxes which have small overlaps with the target boxes contribute most to the optimization of BBR. To mitigate the adverse effects caused thereby, we perform thorough studies to exploit the potential of BBR losses in this paper. Firstly, an Efficient Intersection over Union (EIOU) loss is proposed, which explicitly measures the discrepancies of three geometric factors in BBR, i.e., the overlap area, the central point and the side length. After that, we state the Effective Example Mining (EEM) problem and propose a regression version of focal loss to make the regression process focus on high-quality anchor boxes. Finally, the above two parts are combined to obtain a new loss function, namely Focal-EIOU loss. Extensive experiments on both synthetic and real datasets are performed. Notable superiorities on both the convergence speed and the localization accuracy can be achieved over other BBR losses.

Learning Efficient Convolutional Networks through Irregular Convolutional KernelsWeiyu Guo, Jiabin Ma, Liang Wang et al.
As deep neural networks are increasingly used in applications suited for low-power devices, a fundamental dilemma becomes apparent: the trend is to grow models to absorb increasing data that gives rise to memory intensive; however low-power devices are designed with very limited memory that can not store large models. Parameters pruning is critical for deep model deployment on low-power devices. Existing efforts mainly focus on designing highly efficient structures or pruning redundant connections for networks. They are usually sensitive to the tasks or relay on dedicated and expensive hashing storage strategies. In this work, we introduce a novel approach for achieving a lightweight model from the views of reconstructing the structure of convolutional kernels and efficient storage. Our approach transforms a traditional square convolution kernel to line segments, and automatically learn a proper strategy for equipping these line segments to model diverse features. The experimental results indicate that our approach can massively reduce the number of parameters (pruned 69% on DenseNet-40) and calculations (pruned 59% on DenseNet-40) while maintaining acceptable performance (only lose less than 2% accuracy).
