Nonlinear Intensity, Scale and Rotation Invariant Matching for Multimodal Images

Zhongli Fan, Li Zhang, Yuxuan Liu

We present an effective method for the matching of multimodal images. Accurate image matching is the basis of various applications, such as image registration and structure from motion. Conventional matching methods fail when handling noisy multimodal image pairs with severe scale change, rotation, and nonlinear intensity distortion (NID). Toward this need, we introduce an image pyramid strategy to tackle scale change. We put forward an accurate primary orientation estimation approach to reduce the effect of image rotation at any angle. We utilize multi-scale and multi-orientation image filtering results and a feature-to-template matching scheme to ensure effective and accurate matching under large NID. Integrating these improvements significantly increases noise, scale, rotation, and NID invariant capability. Our experimental results confirm the excellent ability to achieve high-quality matches across various multimodal images. The proposed method outperforms the mainstream multimodal image matching methods in qualitative and quantitative evaluations. Our implementation is available at https://github.com/Zhongli-Fan/NISR.

CurbNet: Curb Detection Framework Based on LiDAR Point Cloud Segmentation

Guoyang Zhao, Fulong Ma, Weiqing Qi et al.

Curb detection is a crucial function in intelligent driving, essential for determining drivable areas on the road. However, the complexity of road environments makes curb detection challenging. This paper introduces CurbNet, a novel framework for curb detection utilizing point cloud segmentation. To address the lack of comprehensive curb datasets with 3D annotations, we have developed the 3D-Curb dataset based on SemanticKITTI, currently the largest and most diverse collection of curb point clouds. Recognizing that the primary characteristic of curbs is height variation, our approach leverages spatially rich 3D point clouds for training. To tackle the challenges posed by the uneven distribution of curb features on the xy-plane and their dependence on high-frequency features along the z-axis, we introduce the Multi-Scale and Channel Attention (MSCA) module, a customized solution designed to optimize detection performance. Additionally, we propose an adaptive weighted loss function group specifically formulated to counteract the imbalance in the distribution of curb point clouds relative to other categories. Extensive experiments conducted on 2 major datasets demonstrate that our method surpasses existing benchmarks set by leading curb detection and point cloud segmentation models. Through the post-processing refinement of the detection results, we have significantly reduced noise in curb detection, thereby improving precision by 4.5 points. Similarly, our tolerance experiments also achieve state-of-the-art results. Furthermore, real-world experiments and dataset analyses mutually validate each other, reinforcing CurbNet's superior detection capability and robust generalizability. Mobile-Bench-v2: A More Realistic and Comprehensive Benchmark for VLM-based Mobile Agents

Weikai Xu, Zhizheng Jiang, Yuxuan Liu et al.

VLM-based mobile agents are increasingly popular due to their capabilities to interact with smartphone GUIs and XML-structured texts and to complete daily tasks. However, existing online benchmarks struggle with obtaining stable reward signals due to dynamic environmental changes. Offline benchmarks evaluate the agents through single-path trajectories, which stands in contrast to the inherently multi-solution characteristics of GUI tasks. Additionally, both types of benchmarks fail to assess whether mobile agents can handle noise or engage in proactive interactions due to a lack of noisy apps or overly full instructions during the evaluation process. To address these limitations, we use a slot-based instruction generation method to construct a more realistic and comprehensive benchmark named Mobile-Bench-v2. Mobile-Bench-v2 includes a common task split, with offline multi-path evaluation to assess the agent's ability to obtain step rewards during task execution. It contains a noisy split based on pop-ups and ads apps, and a contaminated split named AITZ-Noise to formulate a real noisy environment. Furthermore, an ambiguous instruction split with preset Q\&A interactions is released to evaluate the agent's proactive interaction capabilities. We conduct evaluations on these splits using the single-agent framework AppAgent-v1, the multi-agent framework Mobile-Agent-v2, as well as other mobile agents such as UI-Tars and OS-Atlas. Code and data are available at https://huggingface.co/datasets/xwk123/MobileBench-v2.

Personalized Education with Ranking Alignment Recommendation

Haipeng Liu, Yuxuan Liu, Ting Long

Personalized question recommendation aims to guide individual students through questions to enhance their mastery of learning targets. Most previous methods model this task as a Markov Decision Process and use reinforcement learning to solve, but they struggle with efficient exploration, failing to identify the best questions for each student during training. To address this, we propose Ranking Alignment Recommendation (RAR), which incorporates collaborative ideas into the exploration mechanism, enabling more efficient exploration within limited training episodes. Experiments show that RAR effectively improves recommendation performance, and our framework can be applied to any RL-based question recommender. Our code is available in https://github.com/wuming29/RAR.git.

Learning geometry-image representation for 3D point cloud generation

Lei Wang, Yuchun Huang, Pengjie Tao et al.

We study the problem of generating point clouds of 3D objects. Instead of discretizing the object into 3D voxels with huge computational cost and resolution limitations, we propose a novel geometry image based generator (GIG) to convert the 3D point cloud generation problem to a 2D geometry image generation problem. Since the geometry image is a completely regular 2D array that contains the surface points of the 3D object, it leverages both the regularity of the 2D array and the geodesic neighborhood of the 3D surface. Thus, one significant benefit of our GIG is that it allows us to directly generate the 3D point clouds using efficient 2D image generation networks. Experiments on both rigid and non-rigid 3D object datasets have demonstrated the promising performance of our method to not only create plausible and novel 3D objects, but also learn a probabilistic latent space that well supports the shape editing like interpolation and arithmetic.
