Spatial-Temporal Transformer for Video Snapshot Compressive Imaging

Lishun Wang, Miao Cao, Yong Zhong et al.

Video snapshot compressive imaging (SCI) captures multiple sequential video frames by a single measurement using the idea of computational imaging. The underlying principle is to modulate high-speed frames through different masks and these modulated frames are summed to a single measurement captured by a low-speed 2D sensor (dubbed optical encoder); following this, algorithms are employed to reconstruct the desired high-speed frames (dubbed software decoder) if needed. In this paper, we consider the reconstruction algorithm in video SCI, i.e., recovering a series of video frames from a compressed measurement. Specifically, we propose a Spatial-Temporal transFormer (STFormer) to exploit the correlation in both spatial and temporal domains. STFormer network is composed of a token generation block, a video reconstruction block, and these two blocks are connected by a series of STFormer blocks. Each STFormer block consists of a spatial self-attention branch, a temporal self-attention branch and the outputs of these two branches are integrated by a fusion network. Extensive results on both simulated and real data demonstrate the state-of-the-art performance of STFormer. The code and models are publicly available at https://github.com/ucaswangls/STFormer.git

Diffusion Models and Semi-Supervised Learners Benefit Mutually with Few Labels

Zebin You, Yong Zhong, Fan Bao et al.

In an effort to further advance semi-supervised generative and classification tasks, we propose a simple yet effective training strategy called dual pseudo training (DPT), built upon strong semi-supervised learners and diffusion models. DPT operates in three stages: training a classifier on partially labeled data to predict pseudo-labels; training a conditional generative model using these pseudo-labels to generate pseudo images; and retraining the classifier with a mix of real and pseudo images. Empirically, DPT consistently achieves SOTA performance of semi-supervised generation and classification across various settings. In particular, with one or two labels per class, DPT achieves a Fréchet Inception Distance (FID) score of 3.08 or 2.52 on ImageNet 256x256. Besides, DPT outperforms competitive semi-supervised baselines substantially on ImageNet classification tasks, achieving top-1 accuracies of 59.0 (+2.8), 69.5 (+3.0), and 74.4 (+2.0) with one, two, or five labels per class, respectively. Notably, our results demonstrate that diffusion can generate realistic images with only a few labels (e.g., <0.1%) and generative augmentation remains viable for semi-supervised classification. Our code is available at https://github.com/ML-GSAI/DPT.

Deep Generative Modeling on Limited Data with Regularization by Nontransferable Pre-trained Models

Yong Zhong, Hongtao Liu, Xiaodong Liu et al.

Deep generative models (DGMs) are data-eager because learning a complex model on limited data suffers from a large variance and easily overfits. Inspired by the classical perspective of the bias-variance tradeoff, we propose regularized deep generative model (Reg-DGM), which leverages a nontransferable pre-trained model to reduce the variance of generative modeling with limited data. Formally, Reg-DGM optimizes a weighted sum of a certain divergence and the expectation of an energy function, where the divergence is between the data and the model distributions, and the energy function is defined by the pre-trained model w.r.t. the model distribution. We analyze a simple yet representative Gaussian-fitting case to demonstrate how the weighting hyperparameter trades off the bias and the variance. Theoretically, we characterize the existence and the uniqueness of the global minimum of Reg-DGM in a non-parametric setting and prove its convergence with neural networks trained by gradient-based methods. Empirically, with various pre-trained feature extractors and a data-dependent energy function, Reg-DGM consistently improves the generation performance of strong DGMs with limited data and achieves competitive results to the state-of-the-art methods. Our implementation is available at https://github.com/ML-GSAI/Reg-ADA-APA.

Spectral Compressive Imaging Reconstruction Using Convolution and Contextual Transformer

Lishun Wang, Zongliang Wu, Yong Zhong et al.

Spectral compressive imaging (SCI) is able to encode the high-dimensional hyperspectral image to a 2D measurement, and then uses algorithms to reconstruct the spatio-spectral data-cube. At present, the main bottleneck of SCI is the reconstruction algorithm, and the state-of-the-art (SOTA) reconstruction methods generally face the problem of long reconstruction time and/or poor detail recovery. In this paper, we propose a novel hybrid network module, namely CCoT (Convolution and Contextual Transformer) block, which can acquire the inductive bias ability of convolution and the powerful modeling ability of transformer simultaneously, and is conducive to improving the quality of reconstruction to restore fine details. We integrate the proposed CCoT block into deep unfolding framework based on the generalized alternating projection algorithm, and further propose the GAP-CCoT network. Through the experiments of extensive synthetic and real data, our proposed model achieves higher reconstruction quality ($>$2dB in PSNR on simulated benchmark datasets) and shorter running time than existing SOTA algorithms by a large margin. The code and models are publicly available at https://github.com/ucaswangls/GAP-CCoT.
