Kernel Relative-prototype Spectral Filtering for Few-shot Learning

Tao Zhang, Wu Huang

Few-shot learning performs classification tasks and regression tasks on scarce samples. As one of the most representative few-shot learning models, Prototypical Network represents each class as sample average, or a prototype, and measures the similarity of samples and prototypes by Euclidean distance. In this paper, we propose a framework of spectral filtering (shrinkage) for measuring the difference between query samples and prototypes, or namely the relative prototypes, in a reproducing kernel Hilbert space (RKHS). In this framework, we further propose a method utilizing Tikhonov regularization as the filter function for few-shot classification. We conduct several experiments to verify our method utilizing different kernels based on the miniImageNet dataset, tiered-ImageNet dataset and CIFAR-FS dataset. The experimental results show that the proposed model can perform the state-of-the-art. In addition, the experimental results show that the proposed shrinkage method can boost the performance. A Dataset Generation Scheme Based on Video2EEG-SPGN-Diffusion for SEED-VD

Yunfei Guo, Tao Zhang, Wu Huang et al.

This paper introduces an open-source framework, Video2EEG-SPGN-Diffusion, that leverages the SEED-VD dataset to generate a multimodal dataset of EEG signals conditioned on video stimuli. Additionally, we disclose an engineering pipeline for aligning video and EEG data pairs, facilitating the training of multimodal large models with EEG alignment capabilities. Personalized EEG signals are generated using a self-play graph network (SPGN) integrated with a diffusion model. As a major contribution, we release a new dataset comprising over 1000 samples of SEED-VD video stimuli paired with generated 62-channel EEG signals at 200 Hz and emotion labels, enabling video-EEG alignment and advancing multimodal research. This framework offers novel tools for emotion analysis, data augmentation, and brain-computer interface applications, with substantial research and engineering significance.

SENet: A Spectral Filtering Approach to Represent Exemplars for Few-shot Learning

Tao Zhang, Wu Huang

Prototype is widely used to represent internal structure of category for few-shot learning, which was proposed as a simple inductive bias to address the issue of overfitting. However, since prototype representation is normally averaged from individual samples, it can appropriately to represent some classes but with underfitting to represent some others that can be batter represented by exemplars. To address this problem, in this work, we propose Shrinkage Exemplar Networks (SENet) for few-shot classification. In SENet, categories are represented by the embedding of samples that shrink towards their mean via spectral filtering. Furthermore, a shrinkage exemplar loss is proposed to replace the widely used cross entropy loss for capturing the information of individual shrinkage samples. Several experiments were conducted on miniImageNet, tiered-ImageNet and CIFAR-FS datasets. The experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed method.
