Comment-aided Video-Language Alignment via Contrastive Pre-training for Short-form Video Humor DetectionYang Liu, Tongfei Shen, Dong Zhang et al.
The growing importance of multi-modal humor detection within affective computing correlates with the expanding influence of short-form video sharing on social media platforms. In this paper, we propose a novel two-branch hierarchical model for short-form video humor detection (SVHD), named Comment-aided Video-Language Alignment (CVLA) via data-augmented multi-modal contrastive pre-training. Notably, our CVLA not only operates on raw signals across various modal channels but also yields an appropriate multi-modal representation by aligning the video and language components within a consistent semantic space. The experimental results on two humor detection datasets, including DY11k and UR-FUNNY, demonstrate that CVLA dramatically outperforms state-of-the-art and several competitive baseline approaches. Physics-Informed Neural Network for Discovering Systems with Unmeasurable States with Application to Lithium-Ion BatteriesYuichi Kajiura, Jorge Espin, Dong Zhang
Combining machine learning with physics is a trending approach for discovering unknown dynamics, and one of the most intensively studied frameworks is the physics-informed neural network (PINN). However, PINN often fails to optimize the network due to its difficulty in concurrently minimizing multiple losses originating from the system's governing equations. This problem can be more serious when the system's states are unmeasurable, like lithium-ion batteries (LiBs). In this work, we introduce a robust method for training PINN that uses fewer loss terms and thus constructs a less complex landscape for optimization. In particular, instead of having loss terms from each differential equation, this method embeds the dynamics into a loss function that quantifies the error between observed and predicted system outputs. This is accomplished by numerically integrating the predicted states from the neural network(NN) using known dynamics and transforming them to obtain a sequence of predicted outputs. Minimizing such a loss optimizes the NN to predict states consistent with observations given the physics. Further, the system's parameters can be added to the optimization targets. To demonstrate the ability of this method to perform various modeling and control tasks, we apply it to a battery model to concurrently estimate its states and parameters.

Deep-MPC: A DAGGER-Driven Imitation Learning Strategy for Optimal Constrained Battery ChargingJorge Espin, Dong Zhang, Daniele Toti et al.
In the realm of battery charging, several complex aspects demand meticulous attention, including thermal management, capacity degradation, and the need for rapid charging while maintaining safety and battery lifespan. By employing the imitation learning paradigm, this manuscript introduces an innovative solution to confront the inherent challenges often associated with conventional predictive control strategies for constrained battery charging. A significant contribution of this study lies in the adaptation of the Dataset Aggregation (DAGGER) algorithm to address scenarios where battery parameters are uncertain, and internal states are unobservable. Results drawn from a practical battery simulator that incorporates an electrochemical model highlight substantial improvements in battery charging performance, particularly in meeting all safety constraints and outperforming traditional strategies in computational processing.
