Large Language Models Are Semi-Parametric Reinforcement Learning Agents

Inspired by the insights in cognitive science with respect to human memory and reasoning mechanism, a novel evolvable LLM-based (Large Language Model) agent framework is proposed as REMEMBERER. By equipping the LLM with a long-term experience memory, REMEMBERER is capable of exploiting the experiences from the past episodes even for different task goals, which excels an LLM-based agent with fixed exemplars or equipped with a transient working memory. We further introduce Reinforcement Learning with Experience Memory (RLEM) to update the memory. Thus, the whole system can learn from the experiences of both success and failure, and evolve its capability without fine-tuning the parameters of the LLM. In this way, the proposed REMEMBERER constitutes a semi-parametric RL agent. Extensive experiments are conducted on two RL task sets to evaluate the proposed framework. The average results with different initialization and training sets exceed the prior SOTA by 4% and 2% for the success rate on two task sets and demonstrate the superiority and robustness of REMEMBERER.

NTIRE 2026 Challenge on Bitstream-Corrupted Video Restoration: Methods and Results

This paper reports on the NTIRE 2026 Challenge on Bitstream-Corrupted Video Restoration (BSCVR). The challenge aims to advance research on recovering visually coherent videos from corrupted bitstreams, whose decoding often produces severe spatial-temporal artifacts and content distortion. Built upon recent progress in bitstream-corrupted video recovery, the challenge provides a common benchmark for evaluating restoration methods under realistic corruption settings. We describe the dataset, evaluation protocol, and participating methods, and summarize the final results and main technical trends. The challenge highlights the difficulty of this emerging task and provides useful insights for future research on robust video restoration under practical bitstream corruption.

Composer 2 Technical Report

Composer 2 is a specialized model designed for agentic software engineering. The model demonstrates strong long-term planning and coding intelligence while maintaining the ability to efficiently solve problems for interactive use. The model is trained in two phases: first, continued pretraining to improve the model's knowledge and latent coding ability, followed by large-scale reinforcement learning to improve end-to-end coding performance through stronger reasoning, accurate multi-step execution, and coherence on long-horizon realistic coding problems. We develop infrastructure to support training in the same Cursor harness that is used by the deployed model, with equivalent tools and structure, and use environments that match real problems closely. To measure the ability of the model on increasingly difficult tasks, we introduce a benchmark derived from real software engineering problems in large codebases including our own. Composer 2 is a frontier-level coding model and demonstrates a process for training strong domain-specialized models. On our CursorBench evaluations the model achieves a major improvement in accuracy compared to previous Composer models (61.3). On public benchmarks the model scores 61.7 on Terminal-Bench and 73.7 on SWE-bench Multilingual in our harness, comparable to state-of-the-art systems.

ChemDFM-X: Towards Large Multimodal Model for Chemistry

Rapid developments of AI tools are expected to offer unprecedented assistance to the research of natural science including chemistry. However, neither existing unimodal task-specific specialist models nor emerging general large multimodal models (LMM) can cover the wide range of chemical data modality and task categories. To address the real demands of chemists, a cross-modal Chemical General Intelligence (CGI) system, which serves as a truly practical and useful research assistant utilizing the great potential of LMMs, is in great need. In this work, we introduce the first Cross-modal Dialogue Foundation Model for Chemistry (ChemDFM-X). Diverse multimodal data are generated from an initial modality by approximate calculations and task-specific model predictions. This strategy creates sufficient chemical training corpora, while significantly reducing excessive expense, resulting in an instruction-tuning dataset containing 7.6M data. After instruction finetuning, ChemDFM-X is evaluated on extensive experiments of different chemical tasks with various data modalities. The results demonstrate the capacity of ChemDFM-X for multimodal and inter-modal knowledge comprehension. ChemDFM-X marks a significant milestone toward aligning all modalities in chemistry, a step closer to CGI.

Multi-SWE-bench: A Multilingual Benchmark for Issue Resolving

The task of issue resolving is to modify a codebase to generate a patch that addresses a given issue. However, existing benchmarks, such as SWE-bench, focus almost exclusively on Python, making them insufficient for evaluating Large Language Models (LLMs) across diverse software ecosystems. To address this, we introduce a multilingual issue-resolving benchmark, called Multi-SWE-bench, covering Java, TypeScript, JavaScript, Go, Rust, C, and C++. It includes a total of 1,632 high-quality instances, which were carefully annotated from 2,456 candidates by 68 expert annotators, ensuring that the benchmark can provide an accurate and reliable evaluation. Based on Multi-SWE-bench, we evaluate a series of state-of-the-art models using three representative methods (Agentless, SWE-agent, and OpenHands) and present a comprehensive analysis with key empirical insights. In addition, we launch a Multi-SWE-RL open-source community, aimed at building large-scale reinforcement learning (RL) training datasets for issue-resolving tasks. As an initial contribution, we release a set of 4,723 well-structured instances spanning seven programming languages, laying a solid foundation for RL research in this domain. More importantly, we open-source our entire data production pipeline, along with detailed tutorials, encouraging the open-source community to continuously contribute and expand the dataset. We envision our Multi-SWE-bench and the ever-growing Multi-SWE-RL community as catalysts for advancing RL toward its full potential, bringing us one step closer to the dawn of AGI.

RSL-BA: Rolling Shutter Line Bundle Adjustment

The line is a prevalent element in man-made environments, inherently encoding spatial structural information, thus making it a more robust choice for feature representation in practical applications. Despite its apparent advantages, previous rolling shutter bundle adjustment (RSBA) methods have only supported sparse feature points, which lack robustness, particularly in degenerate environments. In this paper, we introduce the first rolling shutter line-based bundle adjustment solution, RSL-BA. Specifically, we initially establish the rolling shutter camera line projection theory utilizing Plücker line parameterization. Subsequently, we derive a series of reprojection error formulations which are stable and efficient. Finally, we theoretically and experimentally demonstrate that our method can prevent three common degeneracies, one of which is first discovered in this paper. Extensive synthetic and real data experiments demonstrate that our method achieves efficiency and accuracy comparable to existing point-based rolling shutter bundle adjustment solutions.

Advancing Automated Algorithm Design via Evolutionary Stagewise Design with LLMs

With the rapid advancement of human science and technology, problems in industrial scenarios are becoming increasingly challenging, bringing significant challenges to traditional algorithm design. Automated algorithm design with LLMs emerges as a promising solution, but the currently adopted black-box modeling deprives LLMs of any awareness of the intrinsic mechanism of the target problem, leading to hallucinated designs. In this paper, we introduce Evolutionary Stagewise Algorithm Design (EvoStage), a novel evolutionary paradigm that bridges the gap between the rigorous demands of industrial-scale algorithm design and the LLM-based algorithm design methods. Drawing inspiration from CoT, EvoStage decomposes the algorithm design process into sequential, manageable stages and integrates real-time intermediate feedback to iteratively refine algorithm design directions. To further reduce the algorithm design space and avoid falling into local optima, we introduce a multi-agent system and a "global-local perspective" mechanism. We apply EvoStage to the design of two types of common optimizers: designing parameter configuration schedules of the Adam optimizer for chip placement, and designing acquisition functions of Bayesian optimization for black-box optimization. Experimental results across open-source benchmarks demonstrate that EvoStage outperforms human-expert designs and existing LLM-based methods within only a couple of evolution steps, even achieving the historically state-of-the-art half-perimeter wire-length results on every tested chip case. Furthermore, when deployed on a commercial-grade 3D chip placement tool, EvoStage significantly surpasses the original performance metrics, achieving record-breaking efficiency. We hope EvoStage can significantly advance automated algorithm design in the real world, helping elevate human productivity.

AirQA: A Comprehensive QA Dataset for AI Research with Instance-Level Evaluation

The growing volume of academic papers has made it increasingly difficult for researchers to efficiently extract key information. While large language models (LLMs) based agents are capable of automating question answering (QA) workflows for scientific papers, there still lacks a comprehensive and realistic benchmark to evaluate their capabilities. Moreover, training an interactive agent for this specific task is hindered by the shortage of high-quality interaction trajectories. In this work, we propose AirQA, a human-annotated comprehensive paper QA dataset in the field of artificial intelligence (AI), with 13,948 papers and 1,246 questions, that encompasses multi-task, multi-modal and instance-level evaluation. Furthermore, we propose ExTrActor, an automated framework for instruction data synthesis. With three LLM-based agents, ExTrActor can perform example generation and trajectory collection without human intervention. Evaluations of multiple open-source and proprietary models show that most models underperform on AirQA, demonstrating the quality of our dataset. Extensive experiments confirm that ExTrActor consistently improves the multi-turn tool-use capability of small models, enabling them to achieve performance comparable to larger ones.

Dynamic Fault Analysis in Substations Based on Knowledge Graphs

To address the challenge of identifying hidden danger in substations from unstructured text, a novel dynamic analysis method is proposed. We first extract relevant information from the unstructured text, and then leverages a flexible distributed search engine built on Elastic-Search to handle the data. Following this, the hidden Markov model is employed to train the data within the engine. The Viterbi algorithm is integrated to decipher the hidden state sequences, facilitating the segmentation and labeling of entities related to hidden dangers. The final step involves using the Neo4j graph database to dynamically create a knowledge graph that visualizes hidden dangers in the substation. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated through a case analysis from a specific substation with hidden dangers revealed in the text records.

DiSRouter: Distributed Self-Routing for LLM Selections

The proliferation of Large Language Models (LLMs) has created a diverse ecosystem of models with highly varying performance and costs, necessitating effective query routing to balance performance and expense. Current routing systems often rely on a centralized external router trained on a fixed set of LLMs, making them inflexible and prone to poor performance since the small router can not fully understand the knowledge boundaries of different LLMs. We introduce DiSRouter (Distributed Self-Router), a novel paradigm that shifts from centralized control to distributed routing. In DiSRouter, a query traverses a network of LLM agents, each independently deciding whether to answer or route to other agents based on its own self-awareness, its ability to judge its competence. This distributed design offers superior flexibility, scalability, and generalizability. To enable this, we propose a two-stage Self-Awareness Training pipeline that enhances each LLM's self-awareness. Extensive experiments demonstrate that DiSRouter significantly outperforms existing routing methods in utility across various scenarios, effectively distinguishes between easy and hard queries, and shows strong generalization to out-of-domain tasks. Our work validates that leveraging an LLM's intrinsic self-awareness is more effective than external assessment, paving the way for more modular and efficient multi-agent systems.

Moon: A Modality Conversion-based Efficient Multivariate Time Series Anomaly Detection

Multivariate time series (MTS) anomaly detection identifies abnormal patterns where each timestamp contains multiple variables. Existing MTS anomaly detection methods fall into three categories: reconstruction-based, prediction-based, and classifier-based methods. However, these methods face two key challenges: (1) Unsupervised learning methods, such as reconstruction-based and prediction-based methods, rely on error thresholds, which can lead to inaccuracies; (2) Semi-supervised methods mainly model normal data and often underuse anomaly labels, limiting detection of subtle anomalies;(3) Supervised learning methods, such as classifier-based approaches, often fail to capture local relationships, incur high computational costs, and are constrained by the scarcity of labeled data. To address these limitations, we propose Moon, a supervised modality conversion-based multivariate time series anomaly detection framework. Moon enhances the efficiency and accuracy of anomaly detection while providing detailed anomaly analysis reports. First, Moon introduces a novel multivariate Markov Transition Field (MV-MTF) technique to convert numeric time series data into image representations, capturing relationships across variables and timestamps. Since numeric data retains unique patterns that cannot be fully captured by image conversion alone, Moon employs a Multimodal-CNN to integrate numeric and image data through a feature fusion model with parameter sharing, enhancing training efficiency. Finally, a SHAP-based anomaly explainer identifies key variables contributing to anomalies, improving interpretability. Extensive experiments on six real-world MTS datasets demonstrate that Moon outperforms six state-of-the-art methods by up to 93% in efficiency, 4% in accuracy and, 10.8% in interpretation performance.

Intriguing Frequency Interpretation of Adversarial Robustness for CNNs and ViTs

Adversarial examples have attracted significant attention over the years, yet understanding their frequency-based characteristics remains insufficient. In this paper, we investigate the intriguing properties of adversarial examples in the frequency domain for the image classification task, with the following key findings. (1) As the high-frequency components increase, the performance gap between adversarial and natural examples becomes increasingly pronounced. (2) The model performance against filtered adversarial examples initially increases to a peak and declines to its inherent robustness. (3) In Convolutional Neural Networks, mid- and high-frequency components of adversarial examples exhibit their attack capabilities, while in Transformers, low- and mid-frequency components of adversarial examples are particularly effective. These results suggest that different network architectures have different frequency preferences and that differences in frequency components between adversarial and natural examples may directly influence model robustness. Based on our findings, we further conclude with three useful proposals that serve as a valuable reference to the AI model security community.

FedTDP: A Privacy-Preserving and Unified Framework for Trajectory Data Preparation via Federated Learning

Trajectory data, which capture the movement patterns of people and vehicles over time and space, are crucial for applications like traffic optimization and urban planning. However, issues such as noise and incompleteness often compromise data quality, leading to inaccurate trajectory analyses and limiting the potential of these applications. While Trajectory Data Preparation (TDP) can enhance data quality, existing methods suffer from two key limitations: (i) they do not address data privacy concerns, particularly in federated settings where trajectory data sharing is prohibited, and (ii) they typically design task-specific models that lack generalizability across diverse TDP scenarios. To overcome these challenges, we propose FedTDP, a privacy-preserving and unified framework that leverages the capabilities of Large Language Models (LLMs) for TDP in federated environments. Specifically, we: (i) design a trajectory privacy autoencoder to secure data transmission and protect privacy, (ii) introduce a trajectory knowledge enhancer to improve model learning of TDP-related knowledge, enabling the development of TDP-oriented LLMs, and (iii) propose federated parallel optimization to enhance training efficiency by reducing data transmission and enabling parallel model training. Experiments on 6 real datasets and 10 mainstream TDP tasks demonstrate that FedTDP consistently outperforms 13 state-of-the-art baselines.

Task-Specific Data Selection for Instruction Tuning via Monosemantic Neuronal Activations

Instruction tuning improves the ability of large language models (LLMs) to follow diverse human instructions, but achieving strong performance on specific target tasks remains challenging. A critical bottleneck is selecting the most relevant data to maximize task-specific performance. Existing data selection approaches include unstable influence-based methods and more stable distribution alignment methods, the latter of which critically rely on the underlying sample representation. In practice, most distribution alignment methods, from shallow features (e.g., BM25) to neural embeddings (e.g., BGE, LLM2Vec), may fail to capture how the model internally processes samples. To bridge this gap, we adopt a model-centric strategy in which each sample is represented by its neuronal activation pattern in the model, directly reflecting internal computation. However, directly using raw neuron activations leads to spurious similarity between unrelated samples due to neuron polysemanticity, where a single neuron may respond to multiple, unrelated concepts. To address this, we employ sparse autoencoders to disentangle polysemantic activations into sparse, monosemantic representations, and introduce a dedicated similarity metric for this space to better identify task-relevant data. Comprehensive experiments across multiple instruction datasets, models, tasks, and selection ratios show that our approach consistently outperforms existing data selection baselines in both stability and task-specific performance.

Text Classification Based on Knowledge Graphs and Improved Attention Mechanism

To resolve the semantic ambiguity in texts, we propose a model, which innovatively combines a knowledge graph with an improved attention mechanism. An existing knowledge base is utilized to enrich the text with relevant contextual concepts. The model operates at both character and word levels to deepen its understanding by integrating the concepts. We first adopt information gain to select import words. Then an encoder-decoder framework is used to encode the text along with the related concepts. The local attention mechanism adjusts the weight of each concept, reducing the influence of irrelevant or noisy concepts during classification. We improve the calculation formula for attention scores in the local self-attention mechanism, ensuring that words with different frequencies of occurrence in the text receive higher attention scores. Finally, the model employs a Bi-directional Gated Recurrent Unit (Bi-GRU), which is effective in feature extraction from texts for improved classification accuracy. Its performance is demonstrated on datasets such as AGNews, Ohsumed, and TagMyNews, achieving accuracy of 75.1%, 58.7%, and 68.5% respectively, showing its effectiveness in classifying tasks.

FastSGD: A Fast Compressed SGD Framework for Distributed Machine Learning

With the rapid increase of big data, distributed Machine Learning (ML) has been widely applied in training large-scale models. Stochastic Gradient Descent (SGD) is arguably the workhorse algorithm of ML. Distributed ML models trained by SGD involve large amounts of gradient communication, which limits the scalability of distributed ML. Thus, it is important to compress the gradients for reducing communication. In this paper, we propose FastSGD, a Fast compressed SGD framework for distributed ML. To achieve a high compression ratio at a low cost, FastSGD represents the gradients as key-value pairs, and compresses both the gradient keys and values in linear time complexity. For the gradient value compression, FastSGD first uses a reciprocal mapper to transform original values into reciprocal values, and then, it utilizes a logarithm quantization to further reduce reciprocal values to small integers. Finally, FastSGD filters reduced gradient integers by a given threshold. For the gradient key compression, FastSGD provides an adaptive fine-grained delta encoding method to store gradient keys with fewer bits. Extensive experiments on practical ML models and datasets demonstrate that FastSGD achieves the compression ratio up to 4 orders of magnitude, and accelerates the convergence time up to 8x, compared with state-of-the-art methods.

Machine Learning-Based Soft Sensors for Vacuum Distillation Unit

Product quality assessment in the petroleum processing industry can be difficult and time-consuming, e.g. due to a manual collection of liquid samples from the plant and subsequent chemical laboratory analysis of the samples. The product quality is an important property that informs whether the products of the process are within the specifications. In particular, the delays caused by sample processing (collection, laboratory measurements, results analysis, reporting) can lead to detrimental economic effects. One of the strategies to deal with this problem is soft sensors. Soft sensors are a collection of models that can be used to predict and forecast some infrequently measured properties (such as laboratory measurements of petroleum products) based on more frequent measurements of quantities like temperature, pressure and flow rate provided by physical sensors. Soft sensors short-cut the pathway to obtain relevant information about the product quality, often providing measurements as frequently as every minute. One of the applications of soft sensors is for the real-time optimization of a chemical process by a targeted adaptation of operating parameters. Models used for soft sensors can have various forms, however, among the most common are those based on artificial neural networks (ANNs). While soft sensors can deal with some of the issues in the refinery processes, their development and deployment can pose other challenges that are addressed in this paper. Firstly, it is important to enhance the quality of both sets of data (laboratory measurements and physical sensors) in a data pre-processing stage (as described in Methodology section). Secondly, once the data sets are pre-processed, different models need to be tested against prediction error and the model's interpretability. In this work, we present a framework for soft sensor development from raw data to ready-to-use models.

Copy-Move Image Forgery Detection Based on Evolving Circular Domains Coverage

The aim of this paper is to improve the accuracy of copy-move forgery detection (CMFD) in image forensics by proposing a novel scheme and the main contribution is evolving circular domains coverage (ECDC) algorithm. The proposed scheme integrates both block-based and keypoint-based forgery detection methods. Firstly, the speed-up robust feature (SURF) in log-polar space and the scale invariant feature transform (SIFT) are extracted from an entire image. Secondly, generalized 2 nearest neighbor (g2NN) is employed to get massive matched pairs. Then, random sample consensus (RANSAC) algorithm is employed to filter out mismatched pairs, thus allowing rough localization of counterfeit areas. To present these forgery areas more accurately, we propose the efficient and accurate ECDC algorithm to present them. This algorithm can find satisfactory threshold areas by extracting block features from jointly evolving circular domains, which are centered on matched pairs. Finally, morphological operation is applied to refine the detected forgery areas. Experimental results indicate that the proposed CMFD scheme can achieve better detection performance under various attacks compared with other state-of-the-art CMFD schemes.

Pre-treatment of outliers and anomalies in plant data: Methodology and case study of a Vacuum Distillation Unit

Data pre-treatment plays a significant role in improving data quality, thus allowing extraction of accurate information from raw data. One of the data pre-treatment techniques commonly used is outliers detection. The so-called 3$σ$ method is a common practice to identify the outliers. As shown in the manuscript, it does not identify all outliers, resulting in possible distortion of the overall statistics of the data. This problem can have a significant impact on further data analysis and can lead to reduction in the accuracy of predictive models. There is a plethora of various techniques for outliers detection, however, aside from theoretical work, they all require case study work. Two types of outliers were considered: short-term (erroneous data, noise) and long-term outliers (e.g. malfunctioning for longer periods). The data used were taken from the vacuum distillation unit (VDU) of an Asian refinery and included 40 physical sensors (temperature, pressure and flow rate). We used a modified method for 3$σ$ thresholds to identify the short-term outliers, i.e. ensors data are divided into chunks determined by change points and 3$σ$ thresholds are calculated within each chunk representing near-normal distribution. We have shown that piecewise 3$σ$ method offers a better approach to short-term outliers detection than 3$σ$ method applied to the entire time series. Nevertheless, this does not perform well for long-term outliers (which can represent another state in the data). In this case, we used principal component analysis (PCA) with Hotelling's $T^2$ statistics to identify the long-term outliers. The results obtained with PCA were subject to DBSCAN clustering method. The outliers (which were visually obvious and correctly detected by the PCA method) were also correctly identified by DBSCAN which supported the consistency and accuracy of the PCA method.

The query complexity of sampling from strongly log-concave distributions in one dimension

We establish the first tight lower bound of $Ω(\log\logκ)$ on the query complexity of sampling from the class of strongly log-concave and log-smooth distributions with condition number $κ$ in one dimension. Whereas existing guarantees for MCMC-based algorithms scale polynomially in $κ$, we introduce a novel algorithm based on rejection sampling that closes this doubly exponential gap.

TouchRoller: A Rolling Optical Tactile Sensor for Rapid Assessment of Large Surfaces

Tactile sensing is important for robots to perceive the world as it captures the texture and hardness of the object in contact and is robust to illumination and colour variances. However, due to the limited sensing area and the resistance of the fixed surface, current tactile sensors have to tap the tactile sensor on target object many times when assessing a large surface, i.e., pressing, lifting up and shifting to another region. This process is ineffective and time consuming. It is also undesirable to drag such sensors as this often damages the sensitive membrane of the sensor or the object. To address these problems, we propose a cylindrical optical tactile sensor named TouchRoller that can roll around its center axis. It maintains being in contact with the assessed surface throughout the entire motion, which allows for measuring the object continuously and effectively. Extensive experiments show that the TouchRoller sensor can cover a textured surface of 8cm*11cm in a short time of 10s, much more effectively than a flat optical tactile sensor (in 196s). The reconstructed map of the texture from the collected tactile images has a high Structural Similarity Index (SSIM) of 0.31 on average, when compared with the visual texture. In addition, the contacts on the sensor can be localised with a low localisation error, 2.63mm in the center regions and 7.66mm on average. The proposed sensor will enable the fast assessment of large surfaces with high-resolution tactile sensing, and also the effective collection of tactile images.

Optimal dimension dependence of the Metropolis-Adjusted Langevin Algorithm

Conventional wisdom in the sampling literature, backed by a popular diffusion scaling limit, suggests that the mixing time of the Metropolis-Adjusted Langevin Algorithm (MALA) scales as $O(d^{1/3})$, where $d$ is the dimension. However, the diffusion scaling limit requires stringent assumptions on the target distribution and is asymptotic in nature. In contrast, the best known non-asymptotic mixing time bound for MALA on the class of log-smooth and strongly log-concave distributions is $O(d)$. In this work, we establish that the mixing time of MALA on this class of target distributions is $\widetildeΘ(d^{1/2})$ under a warm start. Our upper bound proof introduces a new technique based on a projection characterization of the Metropolis adjustment which reduces the study of MALA to the well-studied discretization analysis of the Langevin SDE and bypasses direct computation of the acceptance probability.

Improving Redundancy Availability: Dynamic Subtasks Modulation for Robots with Redundancy Insufficiency

This work presents an approach for robots to suitably carry out complex applications characterized by the presence of multiple additional constraints or subtasks (e.g. obstacle and self-collision avoidance) but subject to redundancy insufficiency. The proposed approach, based on a novel subtask merging strategy, enforces all subtasks in due course by dynamically modulating a virtual secondary task, where the task status and soft priority are incorporated to improve the overall efficiency of redundancy resolution. The proposed approach greatly improves the redundancy availability by unitizing and deploying subtasks in a fine-grained and compact manner. We build up our control framework on the null space projection, which guarantees the execution of subtasks does not interfere with the primary task. Experimental results on two case studies are presented to show the performance of our approach.

Deep Reinforcement Learning for On-line Dialogue State Tracking

Dialogue state tracking (DST) is a crucial module in dialogue management. It is usually cast as a supervised training problem, which is not convenient for on-line optimization. In this paper, a novel companion teaching based deep reinforcement learning (DRL) framework for on-line DST optimization is proposed. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first effort to optimize the DST module within DRL framework for on-line task-oriented spoken dialogue systems. In addition, dialogue policy can be further jointly updated. Experiments show that on-line DST optimization can effectively improve the dialogue manager performance while keeping the flexibility of using predefined policy. Joint training of both DST and policy can further improve the performance.

Surface Following using Deep Reinforcement Learning and a GelSightTactile Sensor

Tactile sensors can provide detailed contact in-formation that can facilitate robots to perform dexterous, in-hand manipulation tasks. One of the primitive but important tasks is surface following that is a key feature for robots while exploring unknown environments or workspace of inaccurate modeling. In this paper, we propose a novel end-to-end learning strategy, by directly mapping the raw tactile data acquired from a GelSight tactile sensor to the motion of the robot end-effector.Experiments on a KUKA youBot platform equipped with theGelSight sensor show that 80% of the actions generated by a fully trained SFDQN model are proper surface following actions; the autonomous surface following test also indicates that the proposed solution works well on a test surface.

Recurrent Multi-Graph Neural Networks for Travel Cost Prediction

Origin-destination (OD) matrices are often used in urban planning, where a city is partitioned into regions and an element (i, j) in an OD matrix records the cost (e.g., travel time, fuel consumption, or travel speed) from region i to region j. In this paper, we partition a day into multiple intervals, e.g., 96 15-min intervals and each interval is associated with an OD matrix which represents the costs in the interval; and we consider sparse and stochastic OD matrices, where the elements represent stochastic but not deterministic costs and some elements are missing due to lack of data between two regions. We solve the sparse, stochastic OD matrix forecasting problem. Given a sequence of historical OD matrices that are sparse, we aim at predicting future OD matrices with no empty elements. We propose a generic learning framework to solve the problem by dealing with sparse matrices via matrix factorization and two graph convolutional neural networks and capturing temporal dynamics via recurrent neural network. Empirical studies using two taxi datasets from different countries verify the effectiveness of the proposed framework.

DIAG-NRE: A Neural Pattern Diagnosis Framework for Distantly Supervised Neural Relation Extraction

Pattern-based labeling methods have achieved promising results in alleviating the inevitable labeling noises of distantly supervised neural relation extraction. However, these methods require significant expert labor to write relation-specific patterns, which makes them too sophisticated to generalize quickly.To ease the labor-intensive workload of pattern writing and enable the quick generalization to new relation types, we propose a neural pattern diagnosis framework, DIAG-NRE, that can automatically summarize and refine high-quality relational patterns from noise data with human experts in the loop. To demonstrate the effectiveness of DIAG-NRE, we apply it to two real-world datasets and present both significant and interpretable improvements over state-of-the-art methods.
