MAWSEO: Adversarial Wiki Search Poisoning for Illicit Online Promotion

Zilong Lin, Zhengyi Li, Xiaojing Liao et al.

As a prominent instance of vandalism edits, Wiki search poisoning for illicit promotion is a cybercrime in which the adversary aims at editing Wiki articles to promote illicit businesses through Wiki search results of relevant queries. In this paper, we report a study that, for the first time, shows that such stealthy blackhat SEO on Wiki can be automated. Our technique, called MAWSEO, employs adversarial revisions to achieve real-world cybercriminal objectives, including rank boosting, vandalism detection evasion, topic relevancy, semantic consistency, user awareness (but not alarming) of promotional content, etc. Our evaluation and user study demonstrate that MAWSEO is capable of effectively and efficiently generating adversarial vandalism edits, which can bypass state-of-the-art built-in Wiki vandalism detectors, and also get promotional content through to Wiki users without triggering their alarms. In addition, we investigated potential defense, including coherence based detection and adversarial training of vandalism detection, against our attack in the Wiki ecosystem.

Efficient Adaptive Activation Rounding for Post-Training Quantization

Zhengyi Li, Cong Guo, Zhanda Zhu et al.

Post-training quantization attracts increasing attention due to its convenience in deploying quantized neural networks. Although rounding-to-nearest remains the prevailing method for DNN quantization, prior research has demonstrated its suboptimal nature when applied to weight quantization. They propose optimizing weight rounding schemes by leveraging output error rather than the traditional weight quantization error. Our study reveals that similar rounding challenges also extend to activation quantization. Despite the easy generalization, the challenges lie in the dynamic nature of activation. Adaptive rounding is expected for varying activations and the method is subjected to runtime overhead. To tackle this, we propose the AQuant quantization framework with a novel perspective to reduce output error by adjusting rounding schemes of activations. Instead of using the constant rounding border 0.5 of the rounding-to-nearest operation, we make the border become a function w.r.t. the activation value to change the activation rounding by the adaptive border. To deal with the runtime overhead, we use a coarse-grained version of the border function. Finally, we introduce our framework to optimize the border function. Extensive experiments show that AQuant achieves notable improvements compared to state-of-the-art works and pushes the accuracy of ResNet-18 up to 60.31% under the 2-bit weight and activation quantization.

MMP-2K: A Benchmark Multi-Labeled Macro Photography Image Quality Assessment Database

Jiashuo Chang, Zhengyi Li, Jianxun Lou et al.

Macro photography (MP) is a specialized field of photography that captures objects at an extremely close range, revealing tiny details. Although an accurate macro photography image quality assessment (MPIQA) metric can benefit macro photograph capturing, which is vital in some domains such as scientific research and medical applications, the lack of MPIQA data limits the development of MPIQA metrics. To address this limitation, we conducted a large-scale MPIQA study. Specifically, to ensure diversity both in content and quality, we sampled 2,000 MP images from 15,700 MP images, collected from three public image websites. For each MP image, 17 (out of 21 after outlier removal) quality ratings and a detailed quality report of distortion magnitudes, types, and positions are gathered by a lab study. The images, quality ratings, and quality reports form our novel multi-labeled MPIQA database, MMP-2k. Experimental results showed that the state-of-the-art generic IQA metrics underperform on MP images. The database and supplementary materials are available at https://github.com/Future-IQA/MMP-2k.
