Dual-Stream Knowledge-Preserving Hashing for Unsupervised Video Retrieval

Pandeng Li, Hongtao Xie, Jiannan Ge et al.

Unsupervised video hashing usually optimizes binary codes by learning to reconstruct input videos. Such reconstruction constraint spends much effort on frame-level temporal context changes without focusing on video-level global semantics that are more useful for retrieval. Hence, we address this problem by decomposing video information into reconstruction-dependent and semantic-dependent information, which disentangles the semantic extraction from reconstruction constraint. Specifically, we first design a simple dual-stream structure, including a temporal layer and a hash layer. Then, with the help of semantic similarity knowledge obtained from self-supervision, the hash layer learns to capture information for semantic retrieval, while the temporal layer learns to capture the information for reconstruction. In this way, the model naturally preserves the disentangled semantics into binary codes. Validated by comprehensive experiments, our method consistently outperforms the state-of-the-arts on three video benchmarks.

AutoLoc: Weakly-supervised Temporal Action Localization

Zheng Shou, Hang Gao, Lei Zhang et al.

Temporal Action Localization (TAL) in untrimmed video is important for many applications. But it is very expensive to annotate the segment-level ground truth (action class and temporal boundary). This raises the interest of addressing TAL with weak supervision, namely only video-level annotations are available during training). However, the state-of-the-art weakly-supervised TAL methods only focus on generating good Class Activation Sequence (CAS) over time but conduct simple thresholding on CAS to localize actions. In this paper, we first develop a novel weakly-supervised TAL framework called AutoLoc to directly predict the temporal boundary of each action instance. We propose a novel Outer-Inner-Contrastive (OIC) loss to automatically discover the needed segment-level supervision for training such a boundary predictor. Our method achieves dramatically improved performance: under the IoU threshold 0.5, our method improves mAP on THUMOS'14 from 13.7% to 21.2% and mAP on ActivityNet from 7.4% to 27.3%. It is also very encouraging to see that our weakly-supervised method achieves comparable results with some fully-supervised methods.

Multi-channel Weighted Nuclear Norm Minimization for Real Color Image Denoising

Jun Xu, Lei Zhang, David Zhang et al.

Most of the existing denoising algorithms are developed for grayscale images, while it is not a trivial work to extend them for color image denoising because the noise statistics in R, G, B channels can be very different for real noisy images. In this paper, we propose a multi-channel (MC) optimization model for real color image denoising under the weighted nuclear norm minimization (WNNM) framework. We concatenate the RGB patches to make use of the channel redundancy, and introduce a weight matrix to balance the data fidelity of the three channels in consideration of their different noise statistics. The proposed MC-WNNM model does not have an analytical solution. We reformulate it into a linear equality-constrained problem and solve it with the alternating direction method of multipliers. Each alternative updating step has closed-form solution and the convergence can be guaranteed. Extensive experiments on both synthetic and real noisy image datasets demonstrate the superiority of the proposed MC-WNNM over state-of-the-art denoising methods.

On the Security of Privacy-Preserving Vehicular Communication Authentication with Hierarchical Aggregation and Fast Response

Lei Zhang, Chuanyan Hu, Qianhong Wu et al.

In [3], the authors proposed a highly efficient secure and privacy-preserving scheme for secure vehicular communications. The proposed scheme consists of four protocols: system setup, protocol for STP and STK distribution, protocol for common string synchronization, and protocol for vehicular communications. Here we define the security models for the protocol for STP and STK distribution, and the protocol for vehicular communications, respectively. We then prove that these two protocols are secure in our models.
