SCB-Dataset3: A Benchmark for Detecting Student Classroom Behavior

Fan Yang, Tao Wang

The use of deep learning methods to automatically detect students' classroom behavior is a promising approach for analyzing their class performance and improving teaching effectiveness. However, the lack of publicly available datasets on student behavior poses a challenge for researchers in this field. To address this issue, we propose the Student Classroom Behavior dataset (SCB-dataset3), which represents real-life scenarios. Our dataset comprises 5686 images with 45578 labels, focusing on six behaviors: hand-raising, reading, writing, using a phone, bowing the head, and leaning over the table. We evaluated the dataset using the YOLOv5, YOLOv7, and YOLOv8 algorithms, achieving a mean average precision (map) of up to 80.3$\%$. We believe that our dataset can serve as a robust foundation for future research in student behavior detection and contribute to advancements in this field. Our SCB-dataset3 is available for download at: https://github.com/Whiffe/SCB-dataset

Towards Automated Data Sciences with Natural Language and SageCopilot: Practices and Lessons Learned

Yuan Liao, Jiang Bian, Yuhui Yun et al.

While the field of NL2SQL has made significant advancements in translating natural language instructions into executable SQL scripts for data querying and processing, achieving full automation within the broader data science pipeline - encompassing data querying, analysis, visualization, and reporting - remains a complex challenge. This study introduces SageCopilot, an advanced, industry-grade system system that automates the data science pipeline by integrating Large Language Models (LLMs), Autonomous Agents (AutoAgents), and Language User Interfaces (LUIs). Specifically, SageCopilot incorporates a two-phase design: an online component refining users' inputs into executable scripts through In-Context Learning (ICL) and running the scripts for results reporting & visualization, and an offline preparing demonstrations requested by ICL in the online phase. A list of trending strategies such as Chain-of-Thought and prompt-tuning have been used to augment SageCopilot for enhanced performance. Through rigorous testing and comparative analysis against prompt-based solutions, SageCopilot has been empirically validated to achieve superior end-to-end performance in generating or executing scripts and offering results with visualization, backed by real-world datasets. Our in-depth ablation studies highlight the individual contributions of various components and strategies used by SageCopilot to the end-to-end correctness for data sciences.

IMM-MOT: A Novel 3D Multi-object Tracking Framework with Interacting Multiple Model Filter

Xiaohong Liu, Xulong Zhao, Gang Liu et al.

3D Multi-Object Tracking (MOT) provides the trajectories of surrounding objects, assisting robots or vehicles in smarter path planning and obstacle avoidance. Existing 3D MOT methods based on the Tracking-by-Detection framework typically use a single motion model to track an object throughout its entire tracking process. However, objects may change their motion patterns due to variations in the surrounding environment. In this paper, we introduce the Interacting Multiple Model filter in IMM-MOT, which accurately fits the complex motion patterns of individual objects, overcoming the limitation of single-model tracking in existing approaches. In addition, we incorporate a Damping Window mechanism into the trajectory lifecycle management, leveraging the continuous association status of trajectories to control their creation and termination, reducing the occurrence of overlooked low-confidence true targets. Furthermore, we propose the Distance-Based Score Enhancement module, which enhances the differentiation between false positives and true positives by adjusting detection scores, thereby improving the effectiveness of the Score Filter. On the NuScenes Val dataset, IMM-MOT outperforms most other single-modal models using 3D point clouds, achieving an AMOTA of 73.8%. Our project is available at https://github.com/Ap01lo/IMM-MOT.

Temporal-Enhanced Multimodal Transformer for Referring Multi-Object Tracking and Segmentation

Changcheng Xiao, Qiong Cao, Yujie Zhong et al.

Referring multi-object tracking (RMOT) is an emerging cross-modal task that aims to locate an arbitrary number of target objects and maintain their identities referred by a language expression in a video. This intricate task involves the reasoning of linguistic and visual modalities, along with the temporal association of target objects. However, the seminal work employs only loose feature fusion and overlooks the utilization of long-term information on tracked objects. In this study, we introduce a compact Transformer-based method, termed TenRMOT. We conduct feature fusion at both encoding and decoding stages to fully exploit the advantages of Transformer architecture. Specifically, we incrementally perform cross-modal fusion layer-by-layer during the encoding phase. In the decoding phase, we utilize language-guided queries to probe memory features for accurate prediction of the desired objects. Moreover, we introduce a query update module that explicitly leverages temporal prior information of the tracked objects to enhance the consistency of their trajectories. In addition, we introduce a novel task called Referring Multi-Object Tracking and Segmentation (RMOTS) and construct a new dataset named Ref-KITTI Segmentation. Our dataset consists of 18 videos with 818 expressions, and each expression averages 10.7 masks, which poses a greater challenge compared to the typical single mask in most existing referring video segmentation datasets. TenRMOT demonstrates superior performance on both the referring multi-object tracking and the segmentation tasks.

Feature Point Extraction for Extra-Affine Image

Tao Wang, Yinghui Wang, Yanxing Liang et al.

The issue concerning the significant decline in the stability of feature extraction for images subjected to large-angle affine transformations, where the angle exceeds 50 degrees, still awaits a satisfactory solution. Even ASIFT, which is built upon SIFT and entails a considerable number of image comparisons simulated by affine transformations, inevitably exhibits the drawbacks of being time-consuming and imposing high demands on memory usage. And the stability of feature extraction drops rapidly under large-view affine transformations. Consequently, we propose a method that represents an improvement over ASIFT. On the premise of improving the precision and maintaining the affine invariance, it currently ranks as the fastest feature extraction method for extra-affine images that we know of at present. Simultaneously, the stability of feature extraction regarding affine transformation images has been approximated to the maximum limits. Both the angle between the shooting direction and the normal direction of the photographed object (absolute tilt angle), and the shooting transformation angle between two images (transition tilt angle) are close to 90 degrees. The central idea of the method lies in obtaining the optimal parameter set by simulating affine transformation with the reference image. And the simulated affine transformation is reproduced by combining it with the Lanczos interpolation based on the optimal parameter set. Subsequently, it is combined with ORB, which exhibits excellent real-time performance for rapid orientation binary description. Moreover, a scale parameter simulation is introduced to further augment the operational efficiency.

Exploring the limits of Concurrency in ML Training on Google TPUs

Sameer Kumar, James Bradbury, Cliff Young et al.

Recent results in language understanding using neural networks have required training hardware of unprecedentedscale, with thousands of chips cooperating on a single training run. This paper presents techniques to scaleML models on the Google TPU Multipod, a mesh with 4096 TPU-v3 chips. We discuss model parallelism toovercome scaling limitations from the fixed batch size in data parallelism, communication/collective optimizations, distributed evaluation of training metrics, and host input processing scaling optimizations. These techniques aredemonstrated in both the TensorFlow and JAX programming frameworks. We also present performance resultsfrom the recent Google submission to the MLPerf-v0.7 benchmark contest, achieving record training times from16 to 28 seconds in four MLPerf models on the Google TPU-v3 Multipod machine.
