ShapeSplat: A Large-scale Dataset of Gaussian Splats and Their Self-Supervised Pretraining

Qi Ma, Yue Li, Bin Ren et al.

3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) has become the de facto method of 3D representation in many vision tasks. This calls for the 3D understanding directly in this representation space. To facilitate the research in this direction, we first build ShapeSplat, a large-scale dataset of 3DGS using the commonly used ShapeNet, ModelNet and Objaverse datasets. Our dataset ShapeSplat consists of 206K objects spanning over 87 unique categories, whose labels are in accordance with the respective datasets. The creation of this dataset utilized the compute equivalent of 3.8 GPU years on a TITAN XP GPU. We utilize our dataset for unsupervised pretraining and supervised finetuning for classification and segmentation tasks. To this end, we introduce Gaussian-MAE, which highlights the unique benefits of representation learning from Gaussian parameters. Through exhaustive experiments, we provide several valuable insights. In particular, we show that (1) the distribution of the optimized GS centroids significantly differs from the uniformly sampled point cloud (used for initialization) counterpart; (2) this change in distribution results in degradation in classification but improvement in segmentation tasks when using only the centroids; (3) to leverage additional Gaussian parameters, we propose Gaussian feature grouping in a normalized feature space, along with splats pooling layer, offering a tailored solution to effectively group and embed similar Gaussians, which leads to notable improvement in finetuning tasks.

QVRF: A Quantization-error-aware Variable Rate Framework for Learned Image Compression

Kedeng Tong, Yaojun Wu, Yue Li et al.

Learned image compression has exhibited promising compression performance, but variable bitrates over a wide range remain a challenge. State-of-the-art variable rate methods compromise the loss of model performance and require numerous additional parameters. In this paper, we present a Quantization-error-aware Variable Rate Framework (QVRF) that utilizes a univariate quantization regulator a to achieve wide-range variable rates within a single model. Specifically, QVRF defines a quantization regulator vector coupled with predefined Lagrange multipliers to control quantization error of all latent representation for discrete variable rates. Additionally, the reparameterization method makes QVRF compatible with a round quantizer. Exhaustive experiments demonstrate that existing fixed-rate VAE-based methods equipped with QVRF can achieve wide-range continuous variable rates within a single model without significant performance degradation. Furthermore, QVRF outperforms contemporary variable-rate methods in rate-distortion performance with minimal additional parameters.

GaussianBlender: Instant Stylization of 3D Gaussians with Disentangled Latent Spaces

Melis Ocal, Xiaoyan Xing, Yue Li et al.

3D stylization is central to game development, virtual reality, and digital arts, where the demand for diverse assets calls for scalable methods that support fast, high-fidelity manipulation. Existing text-to-3D stylization methods typically distill from 2D image editors, requiring time-intensive per-asset optimization and exhibiting multi-view inconsistency due to the limitations of current text-to-image models, which makes them impractical for large-scale production. In this paper, we introduce GaussianBlender, a pioneering feed-forward framework for text-driven 3D stylization that performs edits instantly at inference. Our method learns structured, disentangled latent spaces with controlled information sharing for geometry and appearance from spatially-grouped 3D Gaussians. A latent diffusion model then applies text-conditioned edits on these learned representations. Comprehensive evaluations show that GaussianBlender not only delivers instant, high-fidelity, geometry-preserving, multi-view consistent stylization, but also surpasses methods that require per-instance test-time optimization - unlocking practical, democratized 3D stylization at scale.

SceneSplat++: A Large Dataset and Comprehensive Benchmark for Language Gaussian Splatting

Mengjiao Ma, Qi Ma, Yue Li et al.

3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) serves as a highly performant and efficient encoding of scene geometry, appearance, and semantics. Moreover, grounding language in 3D scenes has proven to be an effective strategy for 3D scene understanding. Current Language Gaussian Splatting line of work fall into three main groups: (i) per-scene optimization-based, (ii) per-scene optimization-free, and (iii) generalizable approach. However, most of them are evaluated only on rendered 2D views of a handful of scenes and viewpoints close to the training views, limiting ability and insight into holistic 3D understanding. To address this gap, we propose the first large-scale benchmark that systematically assesses these three groups of methods directly in 3D space, evaluating on 1060 scenes across three indoor datasets and one outdoor dataset. Benchmark results demonstrate a clear advantage of the generalizable paradigm, particularly in relaxing the scene-specific limitation, enabling fast feed-forward inference on novel scenes, and achieving superior segmentation performance. We further introduce GaussianWorld-49K a carefully curated 3DGS dataset comprising around 49K diverse indoor and outdoor scenes obtained from multiple sources, with which we demonstrate the generalizable approach could harness strong data priors. Our codes, benchmark, and datasets will be made public to accelerate research in generalizable 3DGS scene understanding.

SemiPL: A Semi-supervised Method for Event Sound Source Localization

Yue Li, Baiqiao Yin, Jinfu Liu et al.

In recent years, Event Sound Source Localization has been widely applied in various fields. Recent works typically relying on the contrastive learning framework show impressive performance. However, all work is based on large relatively simple datasets. It's also crucial to understand and analyze human behaviors (actions and interactions of people), voices, and sounds in chaotic events in many applications, e.g., crowd management, and emergency response services. In this paper, we apply the existing model to a more complex dataset, explore the influence of parameters on the model, and propose a semi-supervised improvement method SemiPL. With the increase in data quantity and the influence of label quality, self-supervised learning will be an unstoppable trend. The experiment shows that the parameter adjustment will positively affect the existing model. In particular, SSPL achieved an improvement of 12.2% cIoU and 0.56% AUC in Chaotic World compared to the results provided. The code is available at: https://github.com/ly245422/SSPL

FewViewGS: Gaussian Splatting with Few View Matching and Multi-stage Training

Ruihong Yin, Vladimir Yugay, Yue Li et al.

The field of novel view synthesis from images has seen rapid advancements with the introduction of Neural Radiance Fields (NeRF) and more recently with 3D Gaussian Splatting. Gaussian Splatting became widely adopted due to its efficiency and ability to render novel views accurately. While Gaussian Splatting performs well when a sufficient amount of training images are available, its unstructured explicit representation tends to overfit in scenarios with sparse input images, resulting in poor rendering performance. To address this, we present a 3D Gaussian-based novel view synthesis method using sparse input images that can accurately render the scene from the viewpoints not covered by the training images. We propose a multi-stage training scheme with matching-based consistency constraints imposed on the novel views without relying on pre-trained depth estimation or diffusion models. This is achieved by using the matches of the available training images to supervise the generation of the novel views sampled between the training frames with color, geometry, and semantic losses. In addition, we introduce a locality preserving regularization for 3D Gaussians which removes rendering artifacts by preserving the local color structure of the scene. Evaluation on synthetic and real-world datasets demonstrates competitive or superior performance of our method in few-shot novel view synthesis compared to existing state-of-the-art methods.

A Neural-network Enhanced Video Coding Framework beyond ECM

Yanchen Zhao, Wenxuan He, Chuanmin Jia et al.

In this paper, a hybrid video compression framework is proposed that serves as a demonstrative showcase of deep learning-based approaches extending beyond the confines of traditional coding methodologies. The proposed hybrid framework is founded upon the Enhanced Compression Model (ECM), which is a further enhancement of the Versatile Video Coding (VVC) standard. We have augmented the latest ECM reference software with well-designed coding techniques, including block partitioning, deep learning-based loop filter, and the activation of block importance mapping (BIM) which was integrated but previously inactive within ECM, further enhancing coding performance. Compared with ECM-10.0, our method achieves 6.26, 13.33, and 12.33 BD-rate savings for the Y, U, and V components under random access (RA) configuration, respectively.

Spread-Transform Dither Modulation Watermarking of Deep Neural Network

Yue Li, Benedetta Tondi, Mauro Barni

DNN watermarking is receiving an increasing attention as a suitable mean to protect the Intellectual Property Rights associated to DNN models. Several methods proposed so far are inspired to the popular Spread Spectrum (SS) paradigm according to which the watermark bits are embedded into the projection of the weights of the DNN model onto a pseudorandom sequence. In this paper, we propose a new DNN watermarking algorithm that leverages on the watermarking with side information paradigm to decrease the obtrusiveness of the watermark and increase its payload. In particular, the new scheme exploits the main ideas of ST-DM (Spread Transform Dither Modulation) watermarking to improve the performance of a recently proposed algorithm based on conventional SS. The experiments we carried out by applying the proposed scheme to watermark different models, demonstrate its capability to provide a higher payload with a lower impact on network accuracy than a baseline method based on conventional SS, while retaining a satisfactory level of robustness.

Restrained Generative Adversarial Network against Overfitting in Numeric Data Augmentation

Wei Wang, Yimeng Chai, Tao Cui et al.

In recent studies, Generative Adversarial Network (GAN) is one of the popular schemes to augment the image dataset. However, in our study we find the generator G in the GAN fails to generate numerical data in lower-dimensional spaces, and we address overfitting in the generation. By analyzing the Directed Graphical Model (DGM), we propose a theoretical restraint, independence on the loss function, to suppress the overfitting. Practically, as the Statically Restrained GAN (SRGAN) and Dynamically Restrained GAN (DRGAN), two frameworks are proposed to employ the theoretical restraint to the network structure. In the static structure, we predefined a pair of particular network topologies of G and D as the restraint, and quantify such restraint by the interpretable metric Similarity of the Restraint (SR). While for DRGAN we design an adjustable dropout module for the restraint function. In the widely carried out 20 group experiments, on four public numerical class imbalance datasets and five classifiers, the static and dynamic methods together produce the best augmentation results of 19 from 20; and both two methods simultaneously generate 14 of 20 groups of the top-2 best, proving the effectiveness and feasibility of the theoretical restraints.

Really should we pruning after model be totally trained? Pruning based on a small amount of training

Li Yue, Zhao Weibin, Shang Lin

Pre-training of models in pruning algorithms plays an important role in pruning decision-making. We find that excessive pre-training is not necessary for pruning algorithms. According to this idea, we propose a pruning algorithm---Incremental pruning based on less training (IPLT). Compared with the traditional pruning algorithm based on a large number of pre-training, IPLT has competitive compression effect than the traditional pruning algorithm under the same simple pruning strategy. On the premise of ensuring accuracy, IPLT can achieve 8x-9x compression for VGG-19 on CIFAR-10 and only needs to pre-train few epochs. For VGG-19 on CIFAR-10, we can not only achieve 10 times test acceleration, but also about 10 times training acceleration. At present, the research mainly focuses on the compression and acceleration in the application stage of the model, while the compression and acceleration in the training stage are few. We newly proposed a pruning algorithm that can compress and accelerate in the training stage. It is novel to consider the amount of pre-training required by pruning algorithm. Our results have implications: Too much pre-training may be not necessary for pruning algorithms.
