Crowdsourcing Fraud Detection over Heterogeneous Temporal MMMA Graph

Zequan Xu, Qihang Sun, Shaofeng Hu et al.

The rise of the click farm business using Multi-purpose Messaging Mobile Apps (MMMAs) tempts cybercriminals to perpetrate crowdsourcing frauds that cause financial losses to click farm workers. In this paper, we propose a novel contrastive multi-view learning method named CMT for crowdsourcing fraud detection over the heterogeneous temporal graph (HTG) of MMMA. CMT captures both heterogeneity and dynamics of HTG and generates high-quality representations for crowdsourcing fraud detection in a self-supervised manner. We deploy CMT to detect crowdsourcing frauds on an industry-size HTG of a representative MMMA WeChat and it significantly outperforms other methods. CMT also shows promising results for fraud detection on a large-scale public financial HTG, indicating that it can be applied in other graph anomaly detection tasks. We provide our implementation at https://github.com/KDEGroup/CMT.

Where to Look and How to Describe: Fashion Image Retrieval with an Attentional Heterogeneous Bilinear Network

Haibo Su, Peng Wang, Lingqiao Liu et al.

Fashion products typically feature in compositions of a variety of styles at different clothing parts. In order to distinguish images of different fashion products, we need to extract both appearance (i.e., "how to describe") and localization (i.e.,"where to look") information, and their interactions. To this end, we propose a biologically inspired framework for image-based fashion product retrieval, which mimics the hypothesized twostream visual processing system of human brain. The proposed attentional heterogeneous bilinear network (AHBN) consists of two branches: a deep CNN branch to extract fine-grained appearance attributes and a fully convolutional branch to extract landmark localization information. A joint channel-wise attention mechanism is further applied to the extracted heterogeneous features to focus on important channels, followed by a compact bilinear pooling layer to model the interaction of the two streams. Our proposed framework achieves satisfactory performance on three image-based fashion product retrieval benchmarks.

Machine-learning-based methods for output only structural modal identification

Dawei Liu, Zhiyi Tang, Yuequan Bao et al.

In this study, we propose a machine-learning-based approach to identify the modal parameters of the output-only data for structural health monitoring (SHM) that makes full use of the characteristic of independence of modal responses and the principle of machine learning. By taking advantage of the independence feature of each mode, we use the principle of unsupervised learning, making the training process of the deep neural network becomes the process of modal separation. A self-coding deep neural network is designed to identify the structural modal parameters from the vibration data of structures. The mixture signals, that is, the structural response data, are used as the input of the neural network. Then we use a complex loss function to restrict the training process of the neural network, making the output of the third layer the modal responses we want, and the weights of the last two layers are mode shapes. The deep neural network is essentially a nonlinear objective function optimization problem. A novel loss function is proposed to constrain the independent feature with consideration of uncorrelation and non-Gaussianity to restrict the designed neural network to obtain the structural modal parameters. A numerical example of a simple structure and an example of actual SHM data from a cable-stayed bridge are presented to illustrate the modal parameter identification ability of the proposed approach. The results show the approach's good capability in blindly extracting modal information from system responses.

Towards End-to-End Text Spotting in Natural Scenes

Peng Wang, Hui Li, Chunhua Shen

Text spotting in natural scene images is of great importance for many image understanding tasks. It includes two sub-tasks: text detection and recognition. In this work, we propose a unified network that simultaneously localizes and recognizes text with a single forward pass, avoiding intermediate processes such as image cropping and feature re-calculation, word separation, and character grouping. In contrast to existing approaches that consider text detection and recognition as two distinct tasks and tackle them one by one, the proposed framework settles these two tasks concurrently. The whole framework can be trained end-to-end and is able to handle text of arbitrary shapes. The convolutional features are calculated only once and shared by both detection and recognition modules. Through multi-task training, the learned features become more discriminate and improve the overall performance. By employing the $2$D attention model in word recognition, the irregularity of text can be robustly addressed. It provides the spatial location for each character, which not only helps local feature extraction in word recognition, but also indicates an orientation angle to refine text localization. Our proposed method has achieved state-of-the-art performance on several standard text spotting benchmarks, including both regular and irregular ones.

Towards End-to-end Text Spotting with Convolutional Recurrent Neural Networks

Hui Li, Peng Wang, Chunhua Shen

In this work, we jointly address the problem of text detection and recognition in natural scene images based on convolutional recurrent neural networks. We propose a unified network that simultaneously localizes and recognizes text with a single forward pass, avoiding intermediate processes like image cropping and feature re-calculation, word separation, or character grouping. In contrast to existing approaches that consider text detection and recognition as two distinct tasks and tackle them one by one, the proposed framework settles these two tasks concurrently. The whole framework can be trained end-to-end, requiring only images, the ground-truth bounding boxes and text labels. Through end-to-end training, the learned features can be more informative, which improves the overall performance. The convolutional features are calculated only once and shared by both detection and recognition, which saves processing time. Our proposed method has achieved competitive performance on several benchmark datasets.
