C2F2NeUS: Cascade Cost Frustum Fusion for High Fidelity and Generalizable Neural Surface Reconstruction

Luoyuan Xu, Tao Guan, Yuesong Wang et al.

There is an emerging effort to combine the two popular 3D frameworks using Multi-View Stereo (MVS) and Neural Implicit Surfaces (NIS) with a specific focus on the few-shot / sparse view setting. In this paper, we introduce a novel integration scheme that combines the multi-view stereo with neural signed distance function representations, which potentially overcomes the limitations of both methods. MVS uses per-view depth estimation and cross-view fusion to generate accurate surfaces, while NIS relies on a common coordinate volume. Based on this strategy, we propose to construct per-view cost frustum for finer geometry estimation, and then fuse cross-view frustums and estimate the implicit signed distance functions to tackle artifacts that are due to noise and holes in the produced surface reconstruction. We further apply a cascade frustum fusion strategy to effectively captures global-local information and structural consistency. Finally, we apply cascade sampling and a pseudo-geometric loss to foster stronger integration between the two architectures. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our method reconstructs robust surfaces and outperforms existing state-of-the-art methods.

Boosting Adversarial Transferability for Hyperspectral Image Classification Using 3D Structure-invariant Transformation and Weighted Intermediate Feature Divergence

Chun Liu, Bingqian Zhu, Tao Xu et al.

Deep Neural Networks (DNNs) are vulnerable to adversarial attacks, which pose security challenges to hyperspectral image (HSI) classification based on DNNs. Numerous adversarial attack methods have been designed in the domain of natural images. However, different from natural images, HSIs contains high-dimensional rich spectral information, which presents new challenges for generating adversarial examples. Based on the specific characteristics of HSIs, this paper proposes a novel method to enhance the transferability of the adversarial examples for HSI classification using 3D structure-invariant transformation and weighted intermediate feature divergence. While keeping the HSIs structure invariant, the proposed method divides the image into blocks in both spatial and spectral dimensions. Then, various transformations are applied on each block to increase input diversity and mitigate the overfitting to substitute models. Moreover, a weighted intermediate feature divergence loss is also designed by leveraging the differences between the intermediate features of original and adversarial examples. It constrains the perturbation direction by enlarging the feature maps of the original examples, and assigns different weights to different feature channels to destroy the features that have a greater impact on HSI classification. Extensive experiments demonstrate that the adversarial examples generated by the proposed method achieve more effective adversarial transferability on three public HSI datasets. Furthermore, the method maintains robust attack performance even under defense strategies.

Unsupervised Deformable Medical Image Registration via Pyramidal Residual Deformation Fields Estimation

Yujia Zhou, Shumao Pang, Jun Cheng et al.

Deformation field estimation is an important and challenging issue in many medical image registration applications. In recent years, deep learning technique has become a promising approach for simplifying registration problems, and has been gradually applied to medical image registration. However, most existing deep learning registrations do not consider the problem that when the receptive field cannot cover the corresponding features in the moving image and the fixed image, it cannot output accurate displacement values. In fact, due to the limitation of the receptive field, the 3 x 3 kernel has difficulty in covering the corresponding features at high/original resolution. Multi-resolution and multi-convolution techniques can improve but fail to avoid this problem. In this study, we constructed pyramidal feature sets on moving and fixed images and used the warped moving and fixed features to estimate their "residual" deformation field at each scale, called the Pyramidal Residual Deformation Field Estimation module (PRDFE-Module). The "total" deformation field at each scale was computed by upsampling and weighted summing all the "residual" deformation fields at all its previous scales, which can effectively and accurately transfer the deformation fields from low resolution to high resolution and is used for warping the moving features at each scale. Simulation and real brain data results show that our method improves the accuracy of the registration and the rationality of the deformation field.

Personalized Classifier Ensemble Pruning Framework for Mobile Crowdsourcing

Shaowei Wang, Liusheng Huang, Pengzhan Wang et al.

Ensemble learning has been widely employed by mobile applications, ranging from environmental sensing to activity recognitions. One of the fundamental issue in ensemble learning is the trade-off between classification accuracy and computational costs, which is the goal of ensemble pruning. During crowdsourcing, the centralized aggregator releases ensemble learning models to a large number of mobile participants for task evaluation or as the crowdsourcing learning results, while different participants may seek for different levels of the accuracy-cost trade-off. However, most of existing ensemble pruning approaches consider only one identical level of such trade-off. In this study, we present an efficient ensemble pruning framework for personalized accuracy-cost trade-offs via multi-objective optimization. Specifically, for the commonly used linear-combination style of the trade-off, we provide an objective-mixture optimization to further reduce the number of ensemble candidates. Experimental results show that our framework is highly efficient for personalized ensemble pruning, and achieves much better pruning performance with objective-mixture optimization when compared to state-of-art approaches.
