Structure and Smoothness Constrained Dual Networks for MR Bias Field CorrectionDong Liang, Xingyu Qiu, Yuzhen Li et al.
MR imaging techniques are of great benefit to disease diagnosis. However, due to the limitation of MR devices, significant intensity inhomogeneity often exists in imaging results, which impedes both qualitative and quantitative medical analysis. Recently, several unsupervised deep learning-based models have been proposed for MR image improvement. However, these models merely concentrate on global appearance learning, and neglect constraints from image structures and smoothness of bias field, leading to distorted corrected results. In this paper, novel structure and smoothness constrained dual networks, named S2DNets, are proposed aiming to self-supervised bias field correction. S2DNets introduce piece-wise structural constraints and smoothness of bias field for network training to effectively remove non-uniform intensity and retain much more structural details. Extensive experiments executed on both clinical and simulated MR datasets show that the proposed model outperforms other conventional and deep learning-based models. In addition to comparison on visual metrics, downstream MR image segmentation tasks are also used to evaluate the impact of the proposed model. Sentence Semantic Regression for Text GenerationWei Wang, Piji Li, Hai-Tao Zheng
Recall the classical text generation works, the generation framework can be briefly divided into two phases: \textbf{idea reasoning} and \textbf{surface realization}. The target of idea reasoning is to figure out the main idea which will be presented in the following talking/writing periods. Surface realization aims to arrange the most appropriate sentence to depict and convey the information distilled from the main idea. However, the current popular token-by-token text generation methods ignore this crucial process and suffer from many serious issues, such as idea/topic drift. To tackle the problems and realize this two-phase paradigm, we propose a new framework named Sentence Semantic Regression (\textbf{SSR}) based on sentence-level language modeling. For idea reasoning, two architectures \textbf{SSR-AR} and \textbf{SSR-NonAR} are designed to conduct sentence semantic regression autoregressively (like GPT2/3) and bidirectionally (like BERT). In the phase of surface realization, a mixed-granularity sentence decoder is designed to generate text with better consistency by jointly incorporating the predicted sentence-level main idea as well as the preceding contextual token-level information. We conduct experiments on four tasks of story ending prediction, story ending generation, dialogue generation, and sentence infilling. The results show that SSR can obtain better performance in terms of automatic metrics and human evaluation.

Is Each Layer Non-trivial in CNN?Wei Wang, Yanjie Zhu, Zhuoxu Cui et al.
Convolutional neural network (CNN) models have achieved great success in many fields. With the advent of ResNet, networks used in practice are getting deeper and wider. However, is each layer non-trivial in networks? To answer this question, we trained a network on the training set, then we replace the network convolution kernels with zeros and test the result models on the test set. We compared experimental results with baseline and showed that we can reach similar or even the same performances. Although convolution kernels are the cores of networks, we demonstrate that some of them are trivial and regular in ResNet.

Resonance-based Secure Pairing for WearablesWei Wang, Lin Yang, Qian Zhang
Securely pairing wearables with another device is the key to many promising applications. This paper presents \textit{Touch-And-Guard (TAG)}, a system that uses hand touch as an intuitive manner to establish a secure connection between a wristband wearable and the touched device. It generates secret bits from hand resonant properties, which are obtained using accelerometers and vibration motors. The extracted secret bits are used by both sides to authenticate each other and then communicate confidentially. The ubiquity of accelerometers and motors presents an immediate market for our system. We demonstrate the feasibility of our system using an experimental prototype and conduct experiments involving 12 participants with 1440 trials. The results indicate that we can generate secret bits at a rate of 7.15 bit/s, which is 44% faster than conventional text input PIN authentication.
