FineFake: A Knowledge-Enriched Dataset for Fine-Grained Multi-Domain Fake News Detection

Ziyi Zhou, Xiaoming Zhang, Litian Zhang et al.

Existing benchmarks for fake news detection have significantly contributed to the advancement of models in assessing the authenticity of news content. However, these benchmarks typically focus solely on news pertaining to a single semantic topic or originating from a single platform, thereby failing to capture the diversity of multi-domain news in real scenarios. In order to understand fake news across various domains, the external knowledge and fine-grained annotations are indispensable to provide precise evidence and uncover the diverse underlying strategies for fabrication, which are also ignored by existing benchmarks. To address this gap, we introduce a novel multi-domain knowledge-enhanced benchmark with fine-grained annotations, named \textbf{FineFake}. FineFake encompasses 16,909 data samples spanning six semantic topics and eight platforms. Each news item is enriched with multi-modal content, potential social context, semi-manually verified common knowledge, and fine-grained annotations that surpass conventional binary labels. Furthermore, we formulate three challenging tasks based on FineFake and propose a knowledge-enhanced domain adaptation network. Extensive experiments are conducted on FineFake under various scenarios, providing accurate and reliable benchmarks for future endeavors. The entire FineFake project is publicly accessible as an open-source repository at \url{https://github.com/Accuser907/FineFake}.

Camera-Based Remote Physiology Sensing for Hundreds of Subjects Across Skin Tones

Jiankai Tang, Xinyi Li, Jiacheng Liu et al. · tsinghua

Remote photoplethysmography (rPPG) emerges as a promising method for non-invasive, convenient measurement of vital signs, utilizing the widespread presence of cameras. Despite advancements, existing datasets fall short in terms of size and diversity, limiting comprehensive evaluation under diverse conditions. This paper presents an in-depth analysis of the VitalVideo dataset, the largest real-world rPPG dataset to date, encompassing 893 subjects and 6 Fitzpatrick skin tones. Our experimentation with six unsupervised methods and three supervised models demonstrates that datasets comprising a few hundred subjects(i.e., 300 for UBFC-rPPG, 500 for PURE, and 700 for MMPD-Simple) are sufficient for effective rPPG model training. Our findings highlight the importance of diversity and consistency in skin tones for precise performance evaluation across different datasets.

Explain Variance of Prediction in Variational Time Series Models for Clinical Deterioration Prediction

Jiacheng Liu, Jaideep Srivastava

Missingness and measurement frequency are two sides of the same coin. How frequent should we measure clinical variables and conduct laboratory tests? It depends on many factors such as the stability of patient conditions, diagnostic process, treatment plan and measurement costs. The utility of measurements varies disease by disease, patient by patient. In this study we propose a novel view of clinical variable measurement frequency from a predictive modeling perspective, namely the measurements of clinical variables reduce uncertainty in model predictions. To achieve this goal, we propose variance SHAP with variational time series models, an application of Shapley Additive Expanation(SHAP) algorithm to attribute epistemic prediction uncertainty. The prediction variance is estimated by sampling the conditional hidden space in variational models and can be approximated deterministically by delta's method. This approach works with variational time series models such as variational recurrent neural networks and variational transformers. Since SHAP values are additive, the variance SHAP of binary data imputation masks can be directly interpreted as the contribution to prediction variance by measurements. We tested our ideas on a public ICU dataset with deterioration prediction task and study the relation between variance SHAP and measurement time intervals.
